I have been coming here for YEARS. Its a quick way of getting my oil changed & theres usually a coupon available. For a few years, I have noticed that their check list of items they include in the oil change such as, cleaning windows, vacuuming, toping things off, tire pressure etc... weren't consistently being done (even though at the counter they tell me all of it is done)- but whatevs cause I'm just going for oil. Then in the last year they would tell me they checked this that & the other & levels were fine- they recommend XYZ & also that I have an extreme oil leak. So I answer back, if it's so extreme, how come you told me the levels were fine? Deer in the headlights & a sheepish retraction follows. This happened 3 times. Last time they left a rag on top of my engine & I discovered it because smoke was coming from my hood. You might ask- why did you go back? Good question & today I am going to tell you why I will never go back. I went for my oil change. Signed my estimate (informing me of cost & service as legally required) as always. Then they told me I needed brake fluid but they cannot legally service anything with brakes (interestingly enough- a reviewer that gave 5 stars says they topped off the brake fluid so I'd say thats a fake reviewer in order to boost ratings) one of my belts was cracked & that it would be really quick for them to fix- only about an 7 extra minutes. When my bill came it was $150 & I asked why. They said the belt costs $90 plus labor. I look up the cost of a belt for my car- $10-$30. I tell Cesar the manager (via phone) I will pay what is fair & honest. He says the belt costs what we charge & tells his employees to take the belt out of my car entirely. The manager on duty, Tom, kept saying I just did what the desk told me to do (so who is really in charge??) I told him I was never informed of cost & Cesar also said as long as there is a menu of costs posted anywhere- they don't have to tell you the cost of anything they do to your car but you have to pay it. It seems illegal & I am calling corporate tomorrow. What a mistake it was to get anything done here but an oil change. I won't ever put myself in this position to be ripped off or lied to by this branch again & no one else should either. There is another oil change place 2 minutes away. Go there instead!! They won't leave rags on your engine to catch fire & somehow blame you for not checking their work. read more

Congratulations on losing a customer because one of your Berkeley technicians is too stupid, incompetent, and rude. Unfortunately, I don't have a name for you, as I was fed up and left. It was a younger black employee, and frankly, if he's not fired, there is something wrong with Jiffy Lube. First off, fix your confusing setup. One must drive to the back of the gas station to enter. Put signs up to clarify. But, that's a very minor issue. Second, follow the lead of ALL other oil change stations, and place signs stating the prices at the facility entrance, or at least hand out a paper with the info. When I first approached the oil change area, a nicer older black employee approached and asked how he can help. I asked how much for a synthetic oil changes. He thought about it and said $100. Seeming inpatient with me, he then said he'll be right back while I make up my mind. How am I supposed to make up my mind if I don't know what my options are??? Please put pricing on your walls outside the facility. I proceeded to park on the side, so I can enter the office and see my options. The clerk was relatively nice and explained that the full synthetic that was $76 was for a different oil, and that the one for my car would be $100. It still didn't make sense, but I reluctantly agreed, and proceeded back to my car, and pulled up to the facility again for a technician to process my order. No one came for several minutes. Another female customer drives up, and the young black male employee in question approaches her and guides her on where to go. This is a different guy than the one who helped at the beginning. I ask him why he wasn't helping me first, considering I've been waiting here for several minutes. He then talks back in a very rude manner and not making any sense whatsoever! Not tolerating his behavior, I told him I'm leaving because he doesn't know what customer service is. Even the other customer stated that I was waiting before her. This guy should be fired or forced to undergo customer service training. Unprofessional, stupid, and the last person I'd want working on my vehicle. Congratulations on losing a customer! read more

Went in today for an oil change - it never happened. After waiting for 15 minutes without so much as an acknowledgment, they finally asked me to 'wait a minute'. 10 minutes later, they asked for my keys to move my car. I said 'sure, can I just get checked in and talk to somebody first?' The response: 'I don't have time for this nonsense - let me move your car or leave.' So I left. I went in a few months ago and had a dramatically different (positive) experience, not sure what the heck happened but I won't be back. read more

This place is worse than bad. Its horrid! I wish I had of read the reviews here first. I can't even imagine that they stay in business. I felt intimidated being in this place. It was like a bad dream. The workers are illiterate and can't even speak to me as an esteemed customer. I asked to have new wipers installed and they charged me and did not install them. I had to bring it to their attention and the response was...Oh SNAP...Dude you was supposed to do dis while the whole garage laughed.... I borught my car in for service on February 19. Within 1500 miles I was getting a check oil light, and there appeared to be an oil leak. This seemed surprising. I brought it to Randy at Advanced Audi (check out my high praise for them) and they determined that the oil drain plug was replaced without a seal. I called the manager, Tasha, listed at the bottom of the form. She was very defensive and insisted that my mechanic was wrong and that many cars don't have a seal. Regardless of whether some cars and some cars don't, I would expect at the bare minimum that technicians would check to see whether the car required one...or that a manager might be apologetic when a mistake was brought to her attention. University Ave Jiffy Lube has tried to foist garbage on me before, so I had to take a moment when they recommended an "engine flush." A what? They told me that I'd waited too long between oil changes (4200 miles), and this caused a massive buildup of gunk that could only be cured with an engine flush. I then asked the manager about engine flushes and, contradicting the employee who blamed me, he said they're recommended ever 12 months. So, I typed "engine flush" into google, and the 5th link was an expose of Jiffy Lube by NCB Los Angeles, which stated, ""After engine flushes, there's a pretty high incidence of some damage to the interior of the engine," Chris Martin of Honda tells NBC Los Angeles."" I mentioned to the manager that Honda had a memo about not doing engine flushes, and he laughed it off, saying that he used to work for Honda, and that the misguided memo referred to some bad chemical that Honda was using for the procedure. He even told me to call up "Fairfield Honda" because they do the procedure. Well, there is no "Fairfield Honda" in the phone book, and the two dealerships in Fairfield, and one I called elsewhere, all recommended against doing the procedure. Yeah, I'm sure someone at Jiffy Lube knows more about my car than 3 Honda dealers. Conning someone over a useless procedure is one thing, but it's reprehensible that they're lying about a useless and potentially harmful procedure. read more

What a headache. I understand that Jiffy Lube was not prepared to carry their entire company structure to support the groupon that they put forth in the first place. That's one epic failure and sheds light on how poorly this company operates. But Richard's customer service was purely deserving of an award, "the customer is always WRONG". Here's how to have the best experience here in 45 minutes or more: 1) Buy the groupon deal. You get a signature oil change for $25 (https://www.groupon.com/deals/the-ostler-group-for-jiffy-lube-parent-1) 2) Pull your car into the Jiffy Lube, get out of your car, and walk into their office 3) Ask Richard Hunte, the person at the front desk if they take your Groupon. He will tell you that he will look at it later and that he needs you to sign the paperwork so that they can start working on your car. 4) Ask him again, if they take the groupon. He brushes you off with a quick yes, and hurries you to sign. 5) They do the oil change service, vacuum the floors, clean the windows 6) Richard Hunte (the manager) looks at the groupon and is confused. There is no where on the computer to input the groupon, he says. He calls his higher ups and even they don't know what to do. None of them have seen this groupon before (even though on groupon it says 10,000 people have bought it. Good luck, Jiffy Lube). 7) Richard charges you for the full price of the service because the groupon doesn't work. (we checked with groupon on our phones and the groupon was still in fact valid). We explained that we asked him right when we walked in, we asked him if they take the groupon. At this point, this whole problem would have been avoided if he had looked at the groupon prior to servicing the car. 8) Ask Richard for his manager's number. He refuses to give it to you. 9) Call the Jiffy Lube corporate customer service line 4 times until someone picks up. Ask the lady for Richard's higher up number. She hangs up on you. Call the number again. 10) Finally get a number to talk to someone higher up: 510-881-6567 (the number Richard didn't want to give us). That person also didn't know shit about the groupon, but wanted to make things right with us by only charging us $25 . Mind you, I still payed for the damn groupon ... 11) File a complaint online with Jiffy Lube. I get an email back saying they will send the feedback to the person who owns the franchise. 12) File a complaint online with Groupon. I get a refund. read more

I was unfortunately talked into replacing my air filters but when I was looking over my invoice a couple of weeks later, I discovered that the air filters I was charged for were $49 and $19 rather than the $34 and $12 filters listed in my estimate. My advice to all who have had issues with this store, #0089 File a complaint with.... 1) the BBB in LA (against the franchise owner...M.C. Supervisor snapped at another employee and told her not to service any customers that would not give full address details and phone numbers as it was "the law". They had already serviced my car but he said don't come back unless I gave them all my details. No worries, I won't be back. read more

Horrible! Stopped here because there are surprisingly few places in the area to get your air conditioner recharged. I was told it would take 30 minutes. 80 minutes later and I am finally leaving, without an air conditioner that works- it took them over an hour to realize the machine wasn't working properly. Solid place for an oil change. I always check online for a coupon. Usually pretty busy, but I've never waited more than an hour. The location itself is in a pretty small space, and I usually wait outside or in the small (but clean) waiting area. I've never left and come back, so can't speak to that, but they don't excessively push you to get a service you don't want. read more

I went here for a while for oil changes. Service was reasonably courteous, but the staff didn't project competence. Once, after an oil change, I had a sudden engine temperature problem. I took my car to my mechanic right away. Turns out the Jiffy Lube folks didn't screw on the oil drain cap right, so most of the oil drained out of my engine and almost destroyed it. Also, the oil filter wasn't screwed on properly, causing an additional leak and less-than perfect function of the filter. My mechanic redid the oil and filter and save the day, but I came within a few miles of disaster. I don't expect rocket science from Jiffy Lube, but I do expect their folks to know how to screw a cap on and off. There's no excuse for the mistake that could have destroyed my engine and been a safety hazard. Needless to say, they will never get my business again. read more

I would like to give a 0 star review but that is not an option. This Jiffy Lube ruined my oil pan, cost me $450, and will not take responsibility for the repair. I have history in writing that this Jiffy Lube and only this Jiffy Lube serviced my car for oil changes the last 3 years. I was stranded in San Bernadino with a stripped oil pan from an over tightened oil plug. My car has an aluminum oil pan, I went to vetted mechanic in the area and they tried to rethread the oil pan but could not and the whole pan needed to be replaced. The repair cost me $450 and Jiffy Lube will not reimburse me. I brought the damaged part into the store and the manager laughed at me and claimed that he could fix it with a self tapping bolt. He also told me that they do this repair regularly to cars without even notifying the customer. I brought to my trusted mechanic and was told the self tapping screw would only be a temporary fix and after a few changes could strip again and leak. I will never ever again go to Jiffy Lube. read more

I came in for my regular oil change that was way overdue (engine light was even on) these guys went over my car told me what needed to be done, what could wait and did not try and push, or pressure me into extra services. I have been coming to this Jiffy Lube for nearly 10 years and only recently had problems. I got my oil changed at the end of December since I was about to go on a long car trip. I ended up not driving my car for that trip and good thing since they didn't tighten my drain plug and all of the oil leaked out of my car onto the street. Since I hadn't driven lately it took a few days to drain out and when I realized it I went straight over there. They replaced the oil and said I would get a free oil change and a refund. But since the manager was not there I needed to call the next day. Well I called the next day and Richard - the manager- was so rude. He kept asking me why his employee would offer me both refund and free oil change. How should I know? Richard offered me a free oil change which I accepted and when I asked how I would get that oil change in 3 months he went on another tirade about his employee. He basically accused me of lying about what I was offered. He was totally unprofessional and finally gave me the corporate number to call because he did not want to deal with me. Like I said I have been a customer there for 10 years. Oh, and they also claimed that I had declined the vacuuming of my car which I did not decline. When I asked them, they said that there was too much dirt on my carpets and a vacuuming wouldn't make a difference... Seriously? Isn't that how vacuuming works? read more

I left my house to get an oil change just now since my car is due for one. I don't know if it's usually that busy on a Sunday afternoon but I got there and waited like any civil person would do (and that's what I've always done in the past at this same location without a problem), and waited until someone addressed me. I was fine waiting there until someone was available to help me, until another woman basically placed her car in front of mine without considering the fact that I was there before her. An employee then proceeds to ask that woman what she needed help with and didn't bother to address me or ask me if I had been helped. I had no choice but to then leave because apparently I was "in someone else's way". I don't think I will be taking my services back to this Jiffy Lube location despite that it's the closest and most reasonably priced place by my house. One star for all the ridiculousness. read more

First of all, the signage is horrible and you can only tell that you've entered the exit til it's too late and you have to go all the way around the block again. We then pulled in the right way and an employee was sitting on the curb smoking his cigarette and didn't move or acknowledge us at all. Nobody else had come out so I opened the door and asked if they were open. He didn't answer or acknowledge me so I asked again and he said "what do you think, don't we look open?" "Wish you weren't a liar" Went here for an oil change. I have a Subaru Outback Sport, which they tried to convince me needed several services (front/rear differential, transmission, etc.) as was standard for my car after 18,000miles+. They showed me a screen with the Subaru emblem on it to further convince me that it was Subraru's suggestion, not theirs. Still I decided to get a second opinion. Glad I did! The Subaru dealership informed me that the services suggested by Jiffy Lube were not considered standard until 30,000 miles, and that any service now ($300) would be completely unnecessary! Incompetence at its best! My car was serviced a couple of month ago at that location for a basic oil change. My regular auto mechanics worked on the car recently to perform a 30K regular maintenance schedule. When he unscrewed the oil plug, the entire thread came out with it. The technician at Jiffy Lube had tightened the plug so hard it damaged the thread on the oil pan....Sure glad the whole thing did not come out while driving on the freeway. I haven't been here in 10+ years, and now I remember why, they try to oversell services ie tire rotation ( I had just gotten new tires less than a month before) filter replacements etc. The big problem was that when they went to check for the cabin filter, the manager Richard, yanked my locked glove box open ( it was locked) and now it is broken and will no longer close or lock. I called later when I found that I couldn't close it and was told that it was already broken ( it was not). They told me to come in today to see if they could fix it. Service tech Devante was really kind and tried to be helpful . I did see him helping another lady with tire problems and resolved her problem. He worked on the lock but couldn't get it to close. I approached the manager Richard after Devante had not been able to fix it. Richard brushed me off telling me that I had said it was broken before ,when in fact it was locked and closed and now could not be closed at all. Jiffy Lube needs to fix this! The ONLY reason I returned here was that they are supposed to vacuum the interior, what a waste! I have usually gone to 10 minute oil change on Shattuck where I remain in the car and I can see what they are actually doing. read more

They installed the wrong filter for my car! Immediately after visiting this Jiffy Lube I got an oil pressure warning light on my car. I returned later that day, and they checked the oil again and said it was fine and that I should talk to a dealer. The next day, the engine started misfiring and blowing blue smoke, and the oil was jet black. We went back and demanded to see the filter. They had installed an incorrect filter. Fortunately we caught the problem within 200 miles of the oil change so there shouldn't be permanent problems HOWEVER, when I returned the second time, they were very courteous about fixing the problem and offered me a free oil change (if I decide to trust them enough to go back). read more

Ok - My experience here was terrible. I was promised a clean, vacuumed car after getting my oil changed and tire pressure checked, and guess what? That did not happen. But of course, I won't give 1 star for that. Here comes the long story: The reason behind my visit was because I was driving to Southern California a few days later and I needed to make sure my car had oil and the tires were ready to go. My plan was to go to my dad's friend's car shop in SoCal to check up on the bigger issues, like tranny, battery, etc. I made it SoCal safe and sound; however, something was missing. As my car was in the SoCal shop, my dad called, asking me where my lug nut was. I knew that Jiffy had used it last, as they asked to use it at the time I was there. I then replied, saying it should be in the glove box, where I had first found it. It was not! Long story shorter-ish, I call Jiffy and ask if they recall a tan Acura coming in last week and the guy says yes. I ask if there was a spare lug nut just lying around, and they say "Oh yeah, we have it". ?!?!?!? So, they weren't even going to attempt to call me?! Let me know?! I ask if they'll mail it, they say no, we aren't FedEx. Wow, talk about mansplaining. Something could have happened to my tires while on my drive from NorCal to SoCal and I would have been stuck without a lug nut to remove my tires! It would have just been terrible. So, I ended up having a friend retrieve it, mail it to me, and decided on never going back again. End of story. Very disappointing service. read more

"DONT BRING YOUR CAR HERE" For $40 bucks they will make sure your check engine light is turned on when you leave.. GREAT! Now i have to get a mechanic estimate(call a lawyer) and more then likely pay to get it fixed even tho car was perfectly fine when I showed up. People on the phone dont know anything! Avoid. Avoid. The one plus of this place is they're open on Sundays. I went in for an oil change, but they attempted to sell me hundreds of dollars of other services, fluids, etc. with high pressure. The worst was when they finished the job, they installed the oil drain plug beneath my car crooked. By the next morning, nearly all of the new oil was sitting in a giant puddle beneath my car. My brake light turned on sometime after I bought my car, which is an older model. I thought it must be that the hand brake button (which also activates the light) is broken, and drove it around for another year. Eventually a guy at Midas pointed it out and checked my brake fluid. It was empty! I guess that explains why the brakes felt so squishy. Well, I'd been to Jiffy Lube (on University) at least twice since the light turned on. They must have never checked my brake fluid. I guess I would have thought that a business which specializes in replacing the fluids of automobiles would have been more attentive and knowledgable. Actually I had repairs done by Midas and Oceanworks as well during this time, and they didn't make the connection either. So I'm a bit frustrated with everyone. I guess I have to try to educate myself about auto maintenance, and be less dependent. read more

Came in for an oil change, was hoping to just be in and out and not have anything else come up. When they're almost done they tell me I have a headlight out... but the thing is, I always replace bulbs myself, and I had just so happened to have replaced this specific bulb about a month before. I told them I would handle it myself, at which point they dropped it very quickly. After I left, I checked my lights, and lo and behold they were both fine. I can't seem to come to any other conclusion than they were hoping I wouldn't double check and would just have them replace the light and squeeze some more money out of me. I heard them possibly doing the same thing to the guy in line before me too, they told him he had four lights out and he said they had said the same thing the last time he was in there four months earlier. In the future I'll pay a little more and just have my regular mechanic do oil changes. read more
