The girls at the front desk were super friendly and made the sign up process quick and painless, they were knowledgeable about the equipment, my skin type and the way it tans, and about lotions as I wanted a specific type and they gave me a few different comparable ones to choose from. I stopped using tanning beds for a long time but moving here from FL I need some color and it helps with acne that I'm now experiencing again thanks to age, they were friendly about all my questions and what routine I should follow. read more

Great deals on the packages & the beds work rly well (coming from a kinda pale girl)! I am noticeably tan after two visits, being only 6 and 8 minutes, respectively. The second visit I used a recommended sample cream which may have really catalyzed the tan; I'll def be purchasing it. It was beige and white on the packaging, unscented. I also want to add that the girl at the front desk was very sweet & helpful and talked me through all the options and what would best suit me as a first timer and with my complexion! read more

Jill's Beach is the place to go for a great tan (tanning bed or spray tan). ALL the staff at Jill's Beach have always been a pleasure to work with. In the name of "safety" they only allow you to do the full time you've already prepaid for if you go tanning "at least once a week". So DO NOT buy a package here and expect them to honor what you've paid for. I come every 2 to 3 weeks and I've never been able to go the full time I've paid for. They do not credit time not used. Obviously they do this so you spend more money, which is fine. But don't say it's for safety. No one thinks it's safer to tan at least once a week as opposed to once a month. 12 minutes a month is not more dangerous than 48 minutes a month. I'm very dark skinned and I've never burnt. If i went every week it would make zero sense. Also the last time I bought a package they put it on the wrong account. It took multiple phone calls to correct it. I feel like it's poor management and not enough training. If their policy is they bait and switch you it should at least be in the fine print. Never was I told I wouldn't be able to use the minutes I paid for. The beds are old and it's dirty. A real dump. I don't think they clean that well. read more

SCAM ALERT! Jills Beach has been reported to the Better Business Bureau! Don't waste your money. The first two levels of tanning beds are a sham. On my first visit, I told them that my yellow/olive skin didn't burn and tanned quickly. I bought the "package" they recommended. After 2 visits, there was absolutely NO sign of any skin color change. I spoke with the manager who stated "that they had started me too low, and told me to try the next level, that I would definitely see the difference." Trusting this, I again bought ANOTHER package. After 2 MORE visits, I called and asked for the manager. I was told the main manager was out of town. I explained to a lower manager I was disturbed that their bulbs were something of a scam. I asked for a refund or to try one more level to see if that also was a scam. The conversation was comical and I let her talk on and on about "I wasn't purchasing the right suntan enhancer ($45)!, and that these lights "didn't give color, just melanin"... I was rolling on the floor and couldn't take the nonsense anymore when I informed her that I was a Doctor! She had accused me of "wanting a freebie!".. what a dumbass. Place is very CLEAN!The manager, I believe her name was Rebekah Hutchins, was the most helpful person. I don't go to tanning often but I will come here more often just for their service. The worst tanning salon I have ever been to. High pressure sales of products (every time you go in there) and rude and condescending "young girls" who have no idea how to treat people in a way that makes them want to come back. Cute salon, but that's where it stops for me. If I go to a tanning salon, I'd expect to actually get tan. Allow me to explain. I'm naturally tan and my skin type is a 4-5, meaning I never burn and usually get a dark, golden tan...with proper exposure. All I felt like I got from Jill's was a lighter wallet. My thought is that the "no burn policy" is in place to contribute to their bottom line $$$, rather than out of concern for their customer base. I used to work at a high end tanning salon with over 20 beds and would never short customers on tan time unless their was a legitimate health concern. Someone who is properly trained and certified knows skin types vs. tan times. When I'm naturally tan and only "allowed" to move up 1 minute each visit, it's clear I'm being taken advantage of as a customer. Especially when someone like me, who only needs to purchase sessions instead of unlimited tanning, doesn't get to maximize those visits. 6 minutes in a 12 minute bed? Yikes. I have already taken my business elsewhere and am much happier. I recommend others do the same. I've been using Jill's Beach in Cary, NC for over a year and I've never had a problem getting a tan. The people reviewing this and say they don't get tan must be expecting one visit and turn dark brown. It doesn't work that way folks. Jill's Beach's staff is definitely knowledgeable and yes, they do follow corporate guidelines SO YOU DON'T BURN!! I will come in when I want a tan to go on a cruise or a week at the beach or something like that, so I start about 2 months before. I get a solid base after the first month coming 2-3 times a week. The 2nd month is when I get really dark. So dark tanned once my wife told me to ease up going because I was getting too tan! If you're in the Raleigh area, take the extra few minutes and go to Cary. SPECIAL TIP: Be honest with your Customer Service Representative and she/he will give you the very best advice to achieve your tanning goal. It's true they are always making recommendations, but its good advice and they are experts. With that being said, I rather enjoy hearing about their new products. It is not necessarily that they expect you to buy, yet I see it as their entire staff being well educated in the products they carry, which is a universally acknowledged demonstration of proper training and employee competence. When I first started going, I went at the same time on the same day and I got the same person each time. Because she knew so much, I mistook her for the owner. As I kept going, I found that they are all trained in that way. Thanks guys for keeping a great stock of lotions and other potions. The staff and customer service alone would reward a 5 star rating for this place. They are so thoughtful and kind. Inside, it looks like what a futuristic tanning salon would look like to me back in the 90's. The sun angel, is Guaranteed to never burn you, regardless of it is your first time in the tanning bed. if you are WHITE as a ghost, it still won' burn you. The 500 is 12 mins and intense tanning. I have never had a richer brown than after getting in the 500. The 500 is not for new tanners. Their unlimited FULL ACCESS plan allows you to get in any bed you want or spray tanned as often as you like for around $80 per month. Every time I call for an appointment, they find time that works for me. The bathroom is elegant black and white, with pictures of Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn. I had never gotten a spray tan before, but wanted to try it before a wedding in a couple months. I have tanned before but know it's bad for me; however, I am VERY pale and was nervous to look unnatural/orange from spray tanning. I found a spray tan groupon for Jill's Beach so thought I;d try it. Overall impression of spray tans - impressed! Jill's Tan - pretty good. I heard they can go bad but they spray tan worked great, I don't look unnatural and it was pretty even. They give tips to avoid streaks and provide lotion in the room. The machine is easy to use and quick - in and out in 20 minutes. The staff is nice and knowledgeable. they do try to upsell you, but to be expected at any tanning salon. They definitely follow corporate policy to a tee and make no exceptions so don;t expect any accommodations or great deals; however, all-in-all, good experience. I am still nervous to try other spray tans that make be too dark/too orange/streaky, etc. so will stick with Jill's Beach. read more

Sunless tanning is a great alternative to UV exposure because the solutions contain Dihydroxyacetone which is FDA approved for external use aka our skin! DHA reacts with the cells on the surface of your skin to creates a unique color based on the micro-structure of YOUR skin. No one is looking like Ross from friends after leaving here! They also provide disposable eye wear, nose plugs, and additional hair nets to protect the mouth for those concerned about the unknown effects of DHA on mucous membranes! They also have two booths at this location in particular and take appointments to guarantee your spot! Also in Response to Dr. Tracy B: Dr. B I am very surprised you had multiple unpleasant experiences with Jill's Beach! I have been coming for years and management has always been nice and knowledgeable! I will say after reading your review I may be able to provide some insight on your issue with color development. I only have a bachelors in Materials Engineering, But my bio-materials concentration has provided me with a fairly extensive background including knowledge on the different wavelengths of light. All tanning beds emit UV light (10-400 nm long) which are slightly longer than x-rays (.01 to 10 nm and very harmful to the skin due to the energy packed in such a short length of light! When contact is made with cells, mutations can occur. This is why we wear lead vests when we get X-rays at the dentist!) but they are also shorter than visible light (40-700 nm). When UV light makes contact with the skin, it can alter the DNA of the cells and exposure in excessive amounts can produce genetic mutations that lead to skin cancer and photo-aging (YIKES). By using the lowest level bed at a tanning salon (similar to using store brand toilet paper) the results are going to be below standard. Lower level beds at tanning salons typically contain UVB light, which penetrates the epidermis. This type of ray results in the production of melanin (pigment), but not the oxidation. Oxidation of melanin occurs when UVA light comes into contact with the skin. However, UVA penetrates much deeper to the basal layer of the epidermis and can damage keratinocytes (basal and squamous cell cancer) so you may have saved yourself some premature ageing by not upgrading to the highest bed! If color development is the goal, in future endeavors you should inquire about a bed that emits UVA rays or a combo package to alternate between melanin production and oxidation. If vitamin D is a deficient, oral supplements exist at most grocery stores (store brand and name brand depending on how cheap you are) and spray tanning can be used to as a safer alternative to still have the look of a tan! Spay tans contain dihydroxyacetone which is FDA approved to react with skin cells and create a temporary look of pigmentation. I hope some of this information was useful i'd hate to see negative reviews due to a lack of knowledge on a subject! Also, seeing as how UV light is harmful and damaging, our bodies are smart and their natural response is going to be to protect themselves! This is why at the beach or pool when we have been outside fairly long our skin feels rather tight (it's actually repelling the rays)! With that said, utilizing a tanning bed for the full duration is approximately the same as direct sun exposure for four hours. To avoid those natural mechanisms of defense, tanning lotions or enhancers are always recommended to delay that response and provide the maximum about of exposure before the light waves are repelled. In the grand scheme of things $45 is pretty cheap compared to how much it's gonna cost to remove skin cancer. read more

I owned and operated a 10 bed, top notch, state of the art tanning salon for years. I researched this place out and they're the best in this area. Not only do they know their beds but they're safe! Wouldn't let me go up in time too fast and I never burned once. Anyone can find something wrong with any business and say negative things but this company shines above the rest. Complete rip-off! Don't expect to get a tan but DO expect to get ripped-off. They sell packages but then limit your time to just a few minutes...result-no tan for you and increased profits for them. AND, your visits expire!!!! What? How can a visit expire? Bread expires, eggs expire, coupons (that you don't pay for) expire. My "package" was a gift which by the way, seemed to confuse the inept staff even more. Needless to say, I was very surprised when they informed me that the 4 visits left on my account had "expired". Pretty inside....but I have a natural olive complexion and I get tan very easily...I saw NO result after getting out of the tanning bed which had "new bulbs" :/...plus the eye stickys they make you wear dont stay on your eyes versus the mini goggles that most places have... read more

I come here for Vitamin D beds, not necessarily to get tan. The staff is actually aware of which bed offers UVB vs UVA. Many other tanning salons don't understand this and staff will look at you dumbfounded. Staff here seem knowledgeable and trained on the benefits of each type of bed and on which days provide the most Vitamin D. The place is spotless and luxurious. read more

This place is great! The facility is immaculate and beautifully decorated. They have the newest equipment for tanning and spray tanning as well and the best products as well. The ladies that work there are very knowledgeable and friendly. I have always enjoyed tanning and spraying here. I have been tanning for a long time, and, yes, it is not the best thing for you, but it makes me feel better about myself. I have tried multiple salons, and this one is my favorite. The staff greet you with a big smile, and are very friendly. The also know the difference between UVA and UVB tanning options. The beds are fairly new, and the bulbs are changed on a regular basis. There may be a wait time during the busy season, but staff are quick to clean the beds and move people in and out. The salon is clean, and the cooling system is great.
