However, based upon my direct experience, it is not. I booked a morning charter for my son and me last weekend while I was visiting my son's new place in Seattle. I confirmed the departure location with Captain Jason via phone several weeks ahead of time. When I called, Captain Jason's tone sounded as if I was causing him an inconvenience and bordered on sounding rude...though he did warm up a bit at the end when I identified myself as a paying customer. I followed up with an email to him two days before the charter to ask if he had any additional requirements or recommendations for my son and me prior to our arrival, but he never replied. I wasn't too concerned...I guess he had no additional information for us and after all, he had already had accepted my 10% deposit and had my email and phone number if there was some type of issue. The day before the charter, my son and I drove to the marina to make sure that we knew exactly where we were going the next morning as we would be leaving early and I was entirely unfamiliar with the area. According to Captain Jason's instructions, my son and I arrived promptly at the dock at 4:45 am the next morning...15 minutes before the charter start time of 5:00 am. However, neither Captain Jason nor anyone affiliated with Bow to Stern Charters was there. We waited until 5:15 and then called Captain Jason's cell phone number. It rang and rang, and then went to voicemail. I made another call at 5:45, and again no answer. I then made a final call at 6:15 am, and again, no answer. So, with our one-day fishing licenses, camera, snacks and beverages in hand, my son and I got back into our rental car and drove back to the hotel. I sincerely don't know if I have ever felt more disappointed. If I could, I would leave zero stars for this business but it seems that Yelp requires at least one star to post a review. I'm 52 years old, and have never left a Yelp review before. I went to Captain Jason's Bow to Stern website today and see that he is still actively booking for trips today and through the rest of the week, so it would seem that he is still in operation. However, three days after our monumental disappointment, I have yet to receive a reply to my email and three unanswered phone calls as to why a Captain would do such a thing to a father and son.

Background: we found the Seattle Flying Dragons group online after brainstorming what kind of fun…read moresummertime team building events were available. Felix and Fong were great to work with and were able to fit our group that kept varying in size (from 25 to 12 to 13 on the actual day). Note: They have multiple boats and also have volunteers and other team members that were training to help coach and possibly paddle if needed. So they are ready to accommodate any group size. Day of: parking was easy near the Kenmore Airport and free on the weekends! We easily found the Seattle Flying Dragons crew. They provided each person a life vest and bottle of water, and locked our personal belongings in their shed. We started with some on shore teaching about dragon boat history and the team's background. Then we got into the boat and learned some techniques close to shore. As we paddled (not rowed) our way into Lake Union, we were provided some more technical training and different types of drills. We were never asked to do more than we could physically but were challenged and encouraged. It was such a positive team building exercise. We went by the house boats and all the way to Gasworks before sprinting back to the starting dock. All in all, we felt accomplished and proud of what we could do in an hour. I highly encourage anyone to try this at least one. And no, you dont need to know how to swim. Even though at times we felt like we were about to capsize, it was all fine and safe. Costed: per the instructions on their website we donated $25 per person. They are a 501c3 so it is tax deductible - print the pdf receipt.

Love the people, atmosphere, and, of course, paddling on Lake Union! I found out about dragon…read moreboating through Meetup shortly after I moved to Seattle. It was intimidating at first because I had never tried the sport before and my mind, at the time, was swirling with doubts & hesitations about meeting new people after hearing so much about the infamous "Seattle Freeze." However I knew I had to give it shot and see what dragon boating and, moreover, the seattle freeze were all about! I recall on my first day of practice, despite my uncertainties, I was immediately greeted by several paddlers who were thrilled to see a newbie and did not miss a beat to take me under their tutelage. The first day was tough, as with any new skill, however, it was amazing how fast one can pick up the "stroke" after only a few consistent paddling practices. Today, I can confidently say that I have met some of my closest friends through dragon boating, not to mention the lasting relationships that I have made with my teammates. It's really the people that make this sport so AWESOME! If you are contemplating about coming out to practice, I highly encourage you to give it a shot! You will find people of all ages, skill levels and personalities. Some are fair weather paddlers (folks who come out during the summer) while others are hardcore winter paddlers- the solitude that comes with being the only boat on the water is something that is totally worth the experience! There is usually plenty of parking in the main lot just outside of Kenmore Air. Do not park in the gravel lot directly adjacent to the terminal unless you check with whoever is leading practice that day. Usually that lot is available during the winter when Kenmore Air shuts down earlier due to the lack of sunlight. If you need to use the restrooms, go up (north) along the parking lot to the nearest Starbucks where you'll find restrooms in the main lobby of the AGC building. Paddles & lifejackets will be provided on site. Additionally, you will need to sign a waiver if it's your first time, minimum age is 12 (guardian signature required for paddlers between 12 & 17 years ago). If you are interested in competing, the majority of the races take place during the summer and into the fall, however, occasionally you'll find opportunities outside that time period.
