Chicken tenders and fries $6 plus tax

Stopped by to try their Chicken tenders and they did not disappoint! I went with the spicy and it was about $7 which is a steal. The service is always great, I've been coming here for years.

Let me start off by saying that this is one of LA's best fried chicken. No, it's not just hype, it actually is LAs best fried chicken. Ive been coming here since i was 8 years old and Jims is a iykyk among LA natives. Located on Vermont and Imperial, the staff is always helpful and friendly. The restaurant itself is always busy as you can imagine why! Even though there are no tables or chairs, there is a small waiting spot, but your order comes out fast, hot and fresh every single time. The chicken is fried to dang near perfection. The breasts are ridiculously juicy and the chicken is seasoned oh so well. Both regular and spicy recipes are amazing. Give this community staple a shot. You will not regret it!!! TL;DR: very good chicken, must try.

Iykyk! If you're from LA then you already know! Jim's is a staple in the community. They're famous for their corn fritters but make no mistake the spicy chicken is what most of us love. My bestie loves the fried clams. The service is good and fast but you can't eat inside. It's a pretty small place and it can get crowded. It's reasonably priced and food is always hot, if you're looking for fried chicken I'd give Jim's a try!

I've always had this booked! So glad I came here after LAX! The customers were the best! So helpful in what to get! There was a long line, but moved quickly! I got (2) 2 piece chicken w fritters and sides, fried clams, and banana pudding. I had to take pictures in my car because they have no seating. The fritters are the best! I didn't expect them to have powdered sugar on them, but was a nice contrast to the savory chicken. The clams were plump! Only missing the tartar sauce. Do they even have tartar sauce? That's what they need if they don't. I like adding hot sauce with tartar for seafoods. Banana pudding was delicious. Everything is so cheap. I got everything for about $23! I was going to get the fish, but a customer said that it was like fried fish sticks. Oh well. That's ok, the chicken did the trick! Chicken and clams are my go to!

    Deliciousness galore .

This fried chicken is simply the best, it doesn't get better than this, the value for the amount of food that you get is almost impossible to find these days . The service is fast and friendly, the place is a throwback to old school fried chicken places . I definitely recommend this place .

It was ok; used to be better. I was hungry & on my way to work w/no lunch. The staff aren't courteous at all. They must not know chocolate-la-ta-tas were fryn' chicken waaaay b 4 the could smash beans im just sayn'

I went today and found black hairs in the white meat of the chicken all around and tried to report and my calls were unanswered!

I went to this place today and found black hairs in the meat of the chicken, I tried to call to complain and my calls were left unanswered!

False Advertised Pricing on the Website!!

False advertising of pricing from there websites on chicken dinners. I just ordered the 12 pcs chicken dinner, and they tell me that the website isn't updated. The cashiers -2 on duty both quoted different prices. 1st one quoted total as $34. , and second cashier quoted $36. However, on the current website it states "Full Updated Menu 2025." THE PRICING THEY BOTH QUOTED IS AN $8.00 TO $10.00 INCREASE!! above shown pricing on the website. The cashier's price quotes is with city and state Tax included!!

new prices If anyone was wondering
    K D.

Been coming here since 09. Food is always great 5STARS! Prices went up, here's the updated prices :D

Are the prices still the same as the menu pictures show?

    Yes

Any form of (pick up) catering ? How would large orders work?

I stop in and get 30 pieces of chicken for work parties without advance notice. They usually have a big pile of fried chicken ready to go.

The level of authenticity can be felt the moment you walk in. Every patron of the restaurant can be seen expressively enjoying their food. When you order a main protein, it comes with your choice of three sides & ofc their famous cornbread muffins. All the food is insanely filling so prepare to take home leftovers. * Beef Links 10/10: A massive, spicy beef sausage on top of a soft & fresh slice of white bread. It can't get any better. It stayed hot throughout my meal & was appreciated so much. That is f***g good. * Cornbread muffins 10/10: DELICIOUSLY served as an appetizer before your meal comes out. Comes fresh & hot with a side of sweet/cinnamon butter. It's perfect. * 8 Pc Wings 10/10: Seriously the best wings I've ever had in my life. Soul food restaurants know exactly how to coat the wings so that they become insanely crispy when fried. That aside, the Hot Honey seasoning was especially flavorful & mouthwatering. *Mac n Cheese 9/10: This is my style Mac. Not too ooey-gooey wet but just a perfect amount of cheese & roux. One point off because it has a smokey taste which just isn't my preference. * Candied Yams 11/10: MY GAWWWD. I'm in heaven. If you like very sweet potato's paired with a perfect buttery cinnamon dressing, then step right up. These are insane. I'm obsessed with that type of thing. *Greens w Turkey 3/10: Was not the biggest fan of this side. The flavor of the turkey overpowered the whole dish. The greens clearly basked with the turkey rather than just being placed together. I couldn't taste the greens, just meat flavoring. * Cabbage 7/10: I love cabbage. This side isn't anything crazy, it's a very simple thing for you to pair with whatever you ordered. Every meal needs one side that rlly holds it down. *Fried Okra 12/10: Seriously, you cannot get soul food without trying fried okra. This is just amazing. Perfectly crispy & delicious.

We got the fried catfish, which was nicely seasoned and crispy, with fried okra, collard greens with smoked turkey, and gravy over rice on the side. My friend got the oxtails with mac & cheese and was probably my favorite dish we tried. The oxtail was rich and tender, and that mac & cheese with the oxtail gravy together was good. We also tried the candied yams, and later got more food to take home because we were too full, like the cornbread. Their watermelon drink was really good too, and we got ours spiked. My friend told me he likes drinking it with Hennessy, so l we had to test that theory afterward. I can confirm it was a good combo. The restaurant itself had a nice, relaxed ambiance and I really enjoyed the food. My only issue was the wait, it was way longer than expected, and I'm still not really sure what caused it. Unfortunately, that was enough for me to knock off a star. Still, the food itself was worth trying, especially if you're craving some comforting soul food. I'd come back, hopefully with a shorter wait next time. 8/10

Head to head, I think I prefer the flavors and juiciness of Gus's fried chicken. I'll have to give Willie Mae's another go to confirm that this is indeed the case. But Willie Mae's is situated in a better area, it's got civilized sit down table service, cuter decor, and it has way better sides. During this recent DineLA restaurant week, I met a friend there for lunch. Now they have a fairly large sit down dining room that was quite busy and it seems like there was a steady stream of takeout. Our server, Desiree was fantastic. She told me this branch was started by the same folks of the original in New Orleans. Due to a an issue with the freeway closure and horrible traffic, we were very late and she kindly honored our reservation. The food was fantastic. Great crunchy and spice on the chicken (it is on the spicy side so be careful if you cannot handle the heat). The little corn breads were just the right amount. We tried the yams, which is a must, but also shared some of the other sides. The cabbage is cooked kind of like collard greens. The butter beans and rice is very tasty. We also tried the mashed potatoes and gravy. All sides are vegan, which I thought was done for the local L.A. crowd, but we were told the sides are vegan in the original recipes. Next time I'd like to try the gumbo and other dishes on the menu.
