Okay, here's the scoop. For over the last three years, my family and I have been passing by Jim Dandy. Each time we passed by, it seemed like they were closed and or never answered their phone when we called to see if they were open. We kept telling each other one day we're going to stop by and see if they actually are open. So on Friday after exiting the freeway I made my way to Jim Dandy and saw folks going in and coming out. This location is in the middle of the hood. They have bulletproof windows once inside and this location is order and pickup, no dining available. I didn't see the menu until I was done with ordering. Which made it hard for myself. I seen the menu after I ordered. I walked out with 12 pieces of chicken regular not spicy. Corn fritters, macaroni salad, peach cobbler and a banana pudding. Once home we set up our table and began to devour our food. We were blown away with the chicken it is better than most places we have been to not saying any names. The pieces of chicken were huge fresh and crispy. The macaroni salad was just right amount of mayo and seasoning. The peach cobbler was wrapped perfectly not damaging the crust. The banana pudding was a little watery not sure if that was due to the heat going on in the bag as everything was bagged together. I immediately put it in refrigerator so it could get cold and become solid than running. I have no idea what there hours are next time I go in I'll ask or look for signs. There is plenty parking not that folks stay long. Food seems to come out in a timely manner. So parking comes and goes. I cannot wait to try there dirty rice and corn fritters without the powder sugar. I didn't get a photo of them as they got devoured. read more

Stopped by here on the way back from work on evening. I actually found out about this place from a Joshua Weissman review. The area and building is kinda sketch/scuffed lol. The building itself looks pretty run down and dilapidated, but it's kinda a vibe, not gonna lie. There's a bit of parking surrounding the building and only like two other cars. The bullet proof glass is certainly a choice LOL. The menu is behind the glass, and the prices are pretty fair! I got like a four piece with a side. The chicken itself is pretty crispy, but I don't recall it being particularly flavorful. Like it had a decent spice and good crispy outer coating, but the chicken meat itself felt on the tad side of dry and probably could've used more salt or something. Fries were just ok. Came out to LA for work and was craving some fried chicken. I was planning to hit my usual spot, but I passed by this place, looked it up, and decided to give it a try--glad I did. What a great find. It's a counter-order, takeout-style spot, which was no problem at all. The service was solid. The guy who took my order also handled putting everything together, and you can tell when someone's on it--nothing was missing and everything came out right. I ordered a 3-piece, and it definitely hit the spot. The chicken was flavorful and satisfying, and the onion rings were just as good--crispy and delicious. Let me start off by saying that this is one of LA's best fried chicken. No, it's not just hype, it actually is LAs best fried chicken. Ive been coming here since i was 8 years old and Jims is a iykyk among LA natives. Located on Vermont and Imperial, the staff is always helpful and friendly. The restaurant itself is always busy as you can imagine why! Even though there are no tables or chairs, there is a small waiting spot, but your order comes out fast, hot and fresh every single time. The chicken is fried to dang near perfection. The breasts are ridiculously juicy and the chicken is seasoned oh so well. Both regular and spicy recipes are amazing. Give this community staple a shot. The fried chicken was really great. Had a great taste to it. You could taste all the spices nerves that they used to cook it. It wasn't dry. The service was good too. As far as ambience now the place needs some work on. It needs to be cleaned up, repaint it, but if you don't care about all that which I don't, it's worthwhile to get the chicken. Iykyk! If you're from LA then you already know! Jim's is a staple in the community. They're famous for their corn fritters but make no mistake the spicy chicken is what most of us love. My bestie loves the fried clams. The service is good and fast but you can't eat inside. It's a pretty small place and it can get crowded. This is literally the best place to get fried chicken. Anytime I'm in town I always make sure to stop by. The service is friendly and easygoing. I got (2) 2 piece chicken w fritters and sides, fried clams, and banana pudding. I had to take pictures in my car because they have no seating. The fritters are the best! I didn't expect them to have powdered sugar on them, but was a nice contrast to the savory chicken. The clams were plump! Only missing the tartar sauce. Do they even have tartar sauce? That's what they need if they don't. I like adding hot sauce with tartar for seafoods. Banana pudding was delicious. Everything is so cheap. I got everything for about $23! This place was soooo good. Upon arriving there was a line. I ordered the chicken with a side of rice, fries and corn fritters. The chicken had GREAT FLAVOR and it was crunchy!!! Maybe I was let down by the hype I saw on social media about this place. It's a small place with a walk up window, so nothing to note about the interior of the restaurant. The chicken portions were good and flavorful, but it was dry. Even the thighs, which are the juiciest part of the bird, were pretty dry! Adding some hot sauce helped, but shouldn't be needed. The corn fritters were delicious! The shrimp had a weird flavor and my wife didn't finish them. The pricing is fair and if I'm in the area I'd probably try them again. I was working in the area and was at a stoplight and saw this place and thought, "What in the Grand Theft Auto?" something in my spirit said I needed to stop for lunch here because it looked like something out of a movie. I left turned into the lot and parked on the side of the building. There was a small line that went out the door but moved fast. I asked the person in front of me what their usual order is and they said they get a 2 or 3 piece meal with rice and fries and had been coming here since they were 8 years old. I got the two piece meal with rice and fritters and I also added banana pudding. I ate this on the hood of my truck since there's no indoor or outdoor seating and everything slapped! I don't even like fried chicken but this fried chicken was cooked right down to the bone and it was so tender, juicy and flavorful! The rice was tasty and had a little jalapeno kick. The banana pudding, I wish I could just run down the street and get it now. It's so good. Next time, I'm getting two bags of fritters because it tastes like Samoan pancakes with powdered sugar on top and it's SO GOOD! For a small spot, the chicken was good. It's a "to go" only place. Which is fine. Had a flavor for fried chicken and saw some IG talk about this being the best. So I tried it and it was good. Hood chicken at it's BREAST aka best aka 2 breast are better than 1 lol. Don't worry about the ambiance because that's not what this place is known for, just good fried chicken. Also it's a grab and go spot, so no seating. Workers are always nice and attentive. I Always get the spicy cause that's how I like mine anywhere I get chicken. The tater tots are apart of there secret menu jk, but it's not on the menu, so is it a secret menu idk. Ive ate this 3 times in one week i think i have a problem. I go earlier in the day when the chicken is fresh and cooked to perfection. I get the spicy chicken 2 wings & a breast with onion rings and fritters. The spicy chicken isnt really spicy its just very flavorful and the onion rings very crispy. The fritters are soo freaking good cant go wrong with those. I usually call my order in or you can make the order in person. Also not expensive at all. I want to say this was my first time walking into the place was pleasant, everyone was nice and friendly and answered all my questions about the food and whats in it. 3/5 Yes the ambiance, was peaceful don't let the bulletproof glass scare you away as it comes with the territory if you are a food spot in the city. however the ordering and line direction is confusing 1/5 Food. Jim Dandy I really was dumbfounded on the chicken and not in a good way. When I looked up "best fried chicken" this was on the list I read, and so my expectations were pretty high. The chicken, tasted like old oil. Yes reusing oil for Fried chicken is not unheard of and its quite common. HOWEVER, there comes a point where even reused oil needs to be replaced with fresh oil. I don't understand how a place that has been open for so long, has a cook or staff that doesn't know when to change out the oil. I bought 27 pieces of chicken which skin tasted like it was cooked on 3 day old oil thats been left out. Trust me the best chicken places even the average ones like KFC go through new batches of oil because it seriously ruins the food if its too old. What do you think the onion rings tasted like? haha the same oil.... and onion rings are supposed to be an oily treat not when it tasted like it's rotten. It was terrible i couldn't even eat one ring the moment i started chewing it gagged. The saving grace which was the 1 out of the 5 was the fritters. The corn fritters were actually great and maybe they use a different oil for that. Either way it was the best thing in the menu; the fritters.
