Just went for the first time on July 12th. I had the South LA breakfast with grits, fried chicken (breast and a wing), scrambled eggs fried hard. My girlfriend ordered the creole catfish with crawfish sauce, rice, red pepper cabbage, and Mac n cheese. We had two corn bread muffins with peach cobbler butter. Out of scale of 5 Grits, 5, perfect amount of butter. They had fried onions on top,.. I never see that before but it was fire Pancakes, 6, past the scale, if you like fluffy pancakes, these are perfect. Fried chicken, 4.5, breast wasn't dry like white meat usually is and that batter was crispy and very well seasoned. Personally I didn't need any hot sauce. Be careful with that spicy ranch, it tasted like a ball of fire in my mouth. Creole Catfish, 7, past the scale! That crawfish sauce and seasoned rice made that catfish taste heavenly, nbs. Mac n cheese, 4, taste like your granny made it. I loved the bake with some char on the cheese. Red Pepper Cabbage, 5, I don't even like cabbage like that but this was seasoned to perfection! If you like Caribbean cabbage (it's not the same but similar) you would fs like this. Cornbread, 3.5 with the butter, you HAVE to put the butter on it. I think it's made that way on purpose because the peach cobbler butter is what makes it good. Overall great atmosphere and good service. Keep in mind the restaurant is small so if you want to eat inside and not on the front patio, you might have to be patient to wait for a party to finish up since there aren't many tables inside. We happened to catch a table right when some people were leaving so we didn't have to wait long for them to clean the table and sit us. After we ordered, we weren't waiting forever for our food and the two ladies that were working front of the house were doing everything from packing Togo orders to serving food. I grew in the Crenshaw district, and remember the old "O.G" Stevie's on the strip. Although, I lived near I never dined there. I didn't notice if they have their own parking lot, but they do have plenty of metered parking. They have dining outside, but with the heat we chose to dine inside. We came during the week, and thankfully it was not crowded. Delighted, that we were seated right away. I can just imagine on the weekends, and it being packed with patrons. We started off with the Garlic shrimp as our appetizer. It came with bread plus was shareable, and phenomenal. We highly recommend it. For our main course we ordered the lunch special with the fried shrimp. My husband selected the banana cornbread, and shrimp with grits as a side. The banana cornbread and the shrimp with grits were fire. We also ordered the soft shell crab po-boy. Everything was delicious, and my only suggestion is to change the oil. This is my first time at Stevie's on pico and I had an amazing experience my server, Lauren, was so kind and attentive. I was stuck on ordering a seafood dinner or the gumbo and she highly recommended the gumbo as well as the blueberry lemonade which was 10 out of 10. We thought we were going to Stevie's supper club, but it turns out that it closed some years ago. So this creole cafe is a more casual dining spot. The food is AMAZING! Our faves were definitely the king crabs and the fried oysters. We also ordered oxtails and gumbo to go. The oxtails were delicious and the gumbo had a delicious flavor but needed some file. Okay I had to go after seeing 2 foodies guys I respect speak highly of this restaurant ! It's a small little cafe like spot with about 7 inside tables and 4-6 outside. And I have to say I don't like anyone messing around with my oxtails, BUT this fried oxtails were like magical. They are crispy yet they almost fall off the bone. It's like an anomaly, as it doesn't seem like it should be both at the same time for that kind of meat. The spicing of the oxtail would've made my grandmother, proud. Those yams reminded me of a dessert without being all sugary. I tasted the cinnamon, nutmeg, butter, brown sugar and I think allspice. The collards were good not the greatest, but good that mac & cheese was so hot coming out of the oven that every bite still had steam coming off of it, the entire bowl was cheesy. It had a nice flavor to my palate. I really liked the cabbage I like cabbage so never mess up my cabbage. The fried fish had a good flavor was super crispy, but super soft on the inside no part of the actual fish felt or taste tasted like it was overly cooked. I just wish it would've had one more piece so I could be greedy. Unfortunately they ran out of peach cobbler! One of the tables order like 8 of them, but our waitress was nice enough to scrap some of it up in a taster cup (thank sauces) and man I was even madder at that customer after we tasted that man I think that cobbler is going to be unbelievable and I will be coming back for that!! I did get a banana pudding and it was GOOD! The portion was small and that was the only downfall I literally ran my finger through the container to get every ounce of that goodness. The breakfast burrito filled with eggs , sausage and potatoes is grilled to perfection! The fried chicken wings with grits , eggs and a biscuit are delicious! Those grits were amazing ! After years of wanting to try this place, we were left disappointed. Firstly, it's small inside. We were sat instantly but took over 20 minutes for someone to take our order and that was after we had to stop a staff member. We were looking for dinner in the area. A couple of restaurants we wanted to go were closed. We are interested in checking out Stevie's Creole. The server was welcoming once we walked in. She knew it's our first time and shared with us what is good there. We were interested in trying the famous seafood gumbo small and the jambalaya to share. The seafood gumbo has a very intense flavor. It was good but the more we ate the more I think the gumbo was a little on the salty side. The jambalaya tasted good, maybe it is tomato based, it has some sweetness which made the entree tasted more balanced. The shrimps were huge and juicy. We couldn't even finish the two entrees and had to pack the leftover to good. I'm sure it tastes even better the day after. Browsing at the chalk board menu, there is a huge variety of choices, just for Taco Tuesday, there is a good selection. I'd be interested to try different entree next time when we are in the area. I'm so torn, I love the food (gumbo especially) at Stevie's but the last two times I've gotten takeout here idk if they were understaffed or both times had a big wave but they seemed extremely disorganized. I waited about 20ish mins for my order after the "ready time" and the guy in front of me said he'd been waiting almost an hour. The takeout counter seemed a bit chaotic with two employees running back and forth between helping customers at the store, managing the register and assembling orders. There's a good bit of seating both inside and outside but can fill up pretty quick especially on weekends. I would eat here again, but just not in a time crunch. read more

Not only is this overrated, the gumbo is not even good. And the service and attitude of the workers totally sucked. I believe this hits all quadrants for a bad review, but the price versus what I received is disproportionate more so than any other restaurant I reviewed in my now close to 1800 reviews. If it was about half of the hat I paid, I wouldn't be as mad. I paid 32$ for a small (their 'medium' sized chicken and sausage gumbo with a side of flavorless rice. It's as almost as if they stole $32 off the back of me. It's absolutely surreal, how much the gumbo cost relative to the size and quality . Anything less than the best creole food on earth would be a disappointment . I asked for no seafood, and technically yes, the gumbo had only chicken and sausage; however, and this is a big however , the broth had taste traces of seafood . Which means 1 of two things: 1)They cooked the meats separately and filtered out the seafood meats of the broth. 2) the more likely scenario -- they cross contaminated my order by using cutlery from the seafood gumbo. I don't eat shellfish, so this impacted my order a lot. I of course didnt get to enjoy my gumbo. But of the couple of bites I took, the gumbo was watery, but did have some flavor . The chicken and meats were unseasoned /under. Next let's talk about the service: About 6-7 people behind me received their order first. The one in front (by seconds ) ordered way more than what I did. He was quoted at à wait time of about 25-30 minutes but received it within less than 10 . The two girls working the counter announced everyone's name, but somehow they overlooked mine. It wasn't until about 25 minutes later I inquired about my food. Miraculously it 'just came out.' I don't believe that at all. They either accidentally or deliberately just didn't care for reasons I can guess, but don't have the balls to pontificate. They also gave me attitude, and didn't provide me any silverware . When I asked for silverware /hot sauce , they grabbed it in a huff and shoved it in the brown bag in my fingers with some force. I cannot understand why anyone would pay these prices , but im giving this a well-deserved 1/5 stars. Came in for lunch on Juneteenth--it was heartwarming to see the community out, supporting Black-owned cuisine and culture. The food? Delicious. I had the 1/2 shrimp po'boy & fries. The po'boy was solid--just what I needed with Willie Mae's in Venice temporarily closed. Fries were fresh-cut and well-seasoned, though a bit soft. Still, great Southern cooking, beautifully executed by the Mexicans kitchen team. The sweet tea was perfectly refreshing, and the beignets I took to go were light, flaky, and fantastic. I've been coming to Stevie's for a few years now. I used to get my orders to go, but more recently I've been dining in. There is about 2 tables outside and a couple tables inside, seating is limited and during the day it can get crowded, even on weekdays because it is kind of small. The food does take a minute to come out, but when it does it is well worth it, as it is hot and fresh, and made to order. Went there on a saturday and was seated outside--the restaurant is small so just a few tables inside. The waitress was attentive. The food was ok we had lemon chicken wings, thigh and wing lunch special a few sides yams, greens, mac and cheese and blueberry cornbread and one sweetened drink. The portions of the sides were small like an ice cream scoop size. For $8.50 per side i think it should have been a bigger portion. The sides were just ok. The chicken was hot and seasoned well. and the drink was not tasty had bits of fruit in it. The food was overpriced our bill was $109 for two people and they charge an 18% service charge! this service charge made the bill extremely high just for fried chicken and sides. read more

I had dinner there last night. First time I have been here. Arrived at 6pm on a Sunday, and there was no problem with parking. The place was full - there are only about 8 or 10 tables - and several people were waiting for take out orders. We were gritted at the door when we walked in, and had a table for six set up immediately. The place is clean, and you get hit by that heady aroma of spicy cooking and hot oil as soon as you enter. It's beautiful. We ordered "family style" so we could all share, and enjoyed Gumbo, Jambalaya, Etouffee, Fried Chicken, Fried Catfish, and Jalapeno Grits. We finished it off with a shared peach cobbler ala mode. All six of us enjoyed our meal (including my two teenagers, who can be difficult if they choose to be), and everyone had different favorites. I really liked everything, but I think the fried catfish and the dirty rice that came with the "Stevie Special" were my favorites. I will definitely go back again if I am in the area, and I would really like to go on a Wednesday for their wing special. All in all a great experience. I'm not joking when I say that my meal here literally revived me! I came here on a chilly Friday night looking for a nice, hot bowl of gumbo and walked out with my heart and stomach full. I highly recommend dining in and soaking in the ambience and amazing hospitality/service. I ordered a small bowl of their famous seafood gumbo and the chicken seafood combo plate (mind you this was a lot of food for one but I was ready to eat). The chocolate chip banana cornbread and the blueberry cornbread were served warm with a side of honey butter. These were so unique and delicious, I wanted to take a dozen home to-go. The gumbo was so comforting and full of flavor and spice. They don't skimp of the seafood either. The small bowl was filled to the brim with sausage, king crab, chicken, and shrimp! I love Alaskan king crab so this was a treat. The fried chicken here was absolutely amazing and would bring me back here alone. Do not sleep on the red pepper cabbage and mac & cheese! They were both the perfect sides for the chicken. The fried catfish bites were crispy, tender, piping hot, and delicious with I think was blackened ranch. Ok. Really complicated place. Do absolutely go. It's quite small inside with a few tables and a couple young workers who appear, from what I saw, to be doing everything. I found them personally so friendly. I want to stress they were really nice and apologetic. Unfortunately it was about a three hour wait for a table (it was free day at the museums up the street), so we ended up getting takeout which was a 40 min wait. But the girl who took our order forgot to put the ticket in, so we had to wait double the time and it ended up being close to two hours. Bring stuff to pass the time! Now the food; everything was spiced amazingly, & large portions. Turkey wing was huge and falling off the bone, garnished w a cute little banana pepper. Mac and cheese was peppery and creamy. Fried pickles were a little salty- not awful. And the cobbler and beignets were delightful! They run out sometimes so go early. The jambalaya ($27.00) was a huge serving--easily enough for two people--but the flavor was unfortunately underwhelming. The seafood gumbo (Large - $32.50 each) was packed with quality ingredients, but it still didn't have that authentic New Orleans taste we were hoping for. My sister ordered wings, and they came out severely undercooked. She sent them back, and to their credit, the server was very apologetic and brought out a properly cooked plate at no charge, which we appreciated. The best part of the meal by far was the red beans & rice appetizer ($7.50)--full of flavor and the highlight of our visit. I absolutely loved this place. First time here. It's modest and cozy inside and a lot of people came through for to-go orders. There are a few seats out front and street parking at meters was available when we pulled up. The food and customer service are on point. My family was a party of five and a lovely young lady named Tyler helped us. She greeted us when we walked in and we looked at menus while we waited for a table. A family got up and left a huge mess. She didn't complain she simply got to work cleaning up after them. We were seated and our order was taken. I had a large gumbo. It's a generous portion and included crab. I tasted a bite of the short rib po'boy, great flavor. Jambalaya was my brother's and he's had it from here before. Says it's a solid choice. My sister had the shrimp N'awlins, tasty but not as big of a portion as she would have liked. Finally the étouffée was ok... a lot thicker than expected with lots of rice. It still got finished. 1 star for the food -- because unfortunately the service deserves zero. We were told the wait would be 5 minutes. We stood there for over 30 minutes and never even got helped. The line kept growing, employees (who weren't cooking) ignored customers completely, and one staff member was wearing AirPods while people were visibly waiting and confused. No acknowledgment. No communication. No urgency. Completely unprofessional. We eventually had to walk out because no one serviced us. For a place charging LA premium prices, this level of disorganization is unacceptable. Good food isn't worth being treated like you don't exist. read more
