I called when an HVAC system in my home was on its way out. I knew it wouldn't last the summer and all the contractors I brought to my home agreed with that assessment. I used to work in the industry but not so much on the installation side as much as selling new systems to customers. I was very impressed with both the willingness of the salesman to listen and his precise answers and professionalism. The price is the price in my opinion. But the value was how quickly and seamlessly they replaced my unit. Actually, I'd have to say that I was amazed. It's been a few months now and the system works great! We have been using them for our business and we have several locations. Every time they come it is over $1000.00! It is not my decision to stay or we would be gone. When they are called for a heat issue it is 140.00? They sent one tech to fix an issue that was under warranty and charged us over 800 in labor for a 4 hour job. And they always "find" something else while they are there. I am thoroughly disgusted with this company. If you are looking for a plumber and you are thinking about this one... RUN AWAY!!! More than once the tech that was there had no knowledge of the job which ends up costing us more money because they can't properly diagnose issues. Not professional at all. The office staff is rude and condescending as well. No one cares about the customer, and if it wasn't for the customer they wouldn't have jobs. Who does the follow ups? Where are the owners? As a realtor I often contact subcontractors to discuss home inspections and get quotes & such... as I did w Jim Dorsey and spoke w Lynn I had a question regarding two safety issues that came up on home inspection and her service tech was out to the house to fix. She was ignorant and rude, would not discuss it and hung up on me when I questioned her about a broken safety switch and a 12" exterior vent pipe. This circumstance is ripe for disaster w a snowfall that could easily cover that pipe only 12" off the ground. I asked her in general terms if this was a safety issue and also how much to extend the pipe to a safe height. She refused to answer and hung up on me. I am blown away but can certainly say I would never contact them again for anything! read more

I can't believe that I have to give 1 Star. I would give this company and its management a Zero for everything that I was put through today. Their scheduler forgot to add my appointment to the calendar which was made a week ago whis is affecting the sale of my home and they could care less. I rescheduled because I thought that I was out of options. In knowing that I was in a desperate situation, they were still going to charge me the $40 Show Up fee even though I had to reschedule because of their error. Unbelievable lack of empathy for potential customers. I cringe at the thought of giving even 1 star! Should be allowed to give negative stars!! Hired Jim Dorsey & Son to service my Laars gas burner becuse they were listed as "authorized" on the manufacturer website! First of all, I wouldn't call them "authorized". They sent a tech out - he spent first half hour just trying to get voltage reading but he clearly didn't even know how to accomplish this. After Several tries even I could see the pin was the wrong size! Then made 3 calls to manufacturer, and 2 more to his boss because he had no knowledge of this type of system! Don't send me an apprentice to perform a master's job. I'm not inclined to pay for him to educate himself on my dime. Also replaced an unnecessary part then charged me $400 but it didn't fix my heat! Said he needs to order another part-of course I had to pay shipping and another $160 just to "walk in the door"! Needless to say, by now I'm into this company for over $800, 3 days out of work waiting on their 4 hour service window, and I still have heat issues! Not to mention the tech forgot to put the washing machine hose back in drain so next load of laundry drained out into my basement! When I called to complain about my entire experience, I was called disgruntle! You bet I'm disgruntle! They nickel and dime you to death, inferior knowledge of the systems they say they "service", don't stand behind their work and are just plain rude! read more

I should have written this review about one year ago. Long story short, My Oil Burner failed prematurely (10 years old, Heater Core Rotted) and it was determined that it had to be ripped out and replaced. This Weil McLean Boiler was originally installed by Dorsey. The "Heater Core" Cast Iron Casing was made in China. Caveat Emptor, stay away from Chinese manufactured products. I solicited three quotes for a new Boiler and two were in the $7,000.00 range. Jim Dorsey's quote was in @ $1500.00. Though my Boiler was no longer in warranty, Jim worked out a deal with Weil McLean and got me a replacement unit for free. The $1500.00 quote was for labor only. In Jim's opinion, a Boiler should last for 30 Years. Jim went way beyond the call of duty and took care of business in a timely fashion. Also, he has a great crew of people working for him. All are very professional and really care about customer service. read more

I've never had anyone try and talk me OUT of spending money to fix a problem like these people. I told him what I thought was wrong, and he suggested something else. Partially fixed the problem and left me with no cold water pressure at all in my bathroom. Made an appointment for the following week to fix the pressure issue. They cancelled on me after the initial plumber said that it was DEFINITELY what I had originally suggested it was, and they wouldn't have time to do it today. Also quoted the price of replacing a valve at $950. Seriously? Called another plumber. They came the same day. Found the problem in five minutes, replaced a $.10 WASHER and charged me a tenth of what Dorsey said it would cost. Never again will I call these guys out. Glad I found my new go to plumber. The guy that came out was rude, pushy, and completely unprofessional. Beware. read more

I'll start by saying I had another company out here 3 times (after a bunch of no shows, late visits, and cancellations on their part) and they couldn't figure out the issue but certainly charged me for coming out. I decided to look for a new plumber and came across Jim Dorsey and Son and they blew away my expectations. The plumber was here on time and got right to work. I was asked a few questions to get the lay of the land and within minutes, he had diagnosed the issue. After confirming with a Navien technician over the phone, he corrected the issue and I've had hot water every single time I've called for it and the Navien has stopped erroring out. He was here for less than an hour and resolved an issue that lasted since the end of winter that the other company couldn't figure out. I also want to mention the lovely woman who scheduled my appointment. We played some phone tag (My fault; not hers) and she always left a pleasant message. She got me on the schedule when I needed her to and confirmed all my information (name, address, phone number, window of service, etc). This might seem like a small thing but with the company I used previously, this never took place. Little things like that make the customer experience a lot better. I wish I had their names so I could give them a personal shout out! I'd give them 10 stars if I could. Great job! read more

I believe Dorsey plumbing provide inferior work, the inability to properly diagnose and resolve issues. The customer service is poor and unfortunately results in animated, angry conversations where a lack of respect is shown to the consumer. They sent out a gas contractor to repair in oil fired heating system. A simple diagnosis was missed, people were left in the cold. Their workmanship did not last four hours before failing. Upon a second return additional monies were billed. If you are looking to be overcharged via inability to diagnose issues this company will provide you the best of experiences. Recently I had an issue and had to have my toilet replaced Brad came by explained the issue and offered a few suggestions on fixing it, he and his apprentice were quick, efficient, professional and personable. This winter with the winter freeze I had another issue and once again Brad to the rescue! He once again assessed the problem offered a suggestion on how he could fix the problem and improve the old (original part of a 35 year old plumbing job) he was professional, efficient, polite and accommodating. I'm glad Rob had a good experience with Dorsey and Son - mine have not been as kind. I've experienced some ignitor issues on my gas furnaces and although Dorsey does do a great job in coming to the rescue quickly the charges have been brutal. Recently I wanted someone to come out and do maintenance on by two furnaces while also showing me how it was done (one in basement and one in attic), Joe Curley couldn't make it so Joey came out. Joey had previously attempted to charge us an extra $90 for taking a screwdriver out of his tool belt until we complained how ludicrous this was for what was done . Anyway - he did a good job showing me what I needed to know - but the fee was $170 for the first furnace and $160 for the second - the only parts replaced were the filters. He was there about 45 minutes, although when I called to state I thought they overcharged, the reply was he was there for 1.5 hours (not on this planet was it 90 minutes). Regardless Joey said it was charged by furnace and not time - and that there was discounts over the next year on parts and labor. Besides I had assurances that I was good for the winter. Two weeks later - no heat in the bottom floor and a call for quick service. Sure enough the ignitor gone. Joey again out and didn't charge for labor but the part was only discounted from $230 to $215. After he left we found the exact ignitor on line for as low as $14 (plus shipping). Helluva discount guys - thanks. I'm tempted to give them two stars for the quick service but if you were getting those profit margins on parts wouldn't you be rushing out there too? I'll be looking elsewhere for the service level that Dorsey gives but at a more reasonable price. read more

I contacted Dorsey Plumbing because I was putting a gas insert into my existing fireplace and wanted an estimate. Josh came down to my house and told me he could do the work within the next couple of weeks and gave me a price and we agreed that the work would be done. I asked Josh to send me an email outlining the work that would be done and the price. I've left several messages for Josh and he has NEVER returned my call! Needless to say, I was very disappointed and will never recommend Dorsey Plumbing and had to call another reputable company to do the work. I guess they don't need the business! read more

My project was pretty comprehensive and his team was at my house for about 4 days. They replaced all the heating, installed new central air and an on demand gas water heater. 1st time homeowners here and boy did they catch a sucker. 1st winter in house my compression tank went on my furnace. Guy comes out recommended that this that this and that also needs to replace on a 2 year old furnace and it would cost 1300 bucks. After calling his bullshit and cutting stuff out he charged me 700 bucks to replace the tank and a valve and was gone within an 2hrs. He spent 45mins working and trying to bull me over and 1.5 hrs in his truck waiting for dispatch to give him a quote. Next time the come back we ran out of oil and the furnace was locked out. The charged us for an emergency when it was 80 degrees out. We were no emergency for heat. Guy was here 20 mins bled the line and replaced the filter and charged us under 200 bucks. I had scheduled an appointment for 7am with Josh Dorsey, given him my contact information etc. On the morning of the appointment I woke up an hour early, fed my 1 year old child, took a 2 minute shower, passed off my child to my wife who had to go into an work an hour late in order to bring my son to day care... etc.. You know, all the typical sacrifices people have to make in order to make sure they arrive at an appointment they've made. What happens when I arrive? No Josh Dorsey. I waited for 45 minutes... no Josh Dorsey. I tried calling and only got an answering machine. Did he make an attempt to call me to let me know he'd be late or wasn't going to be able to make it..... NOPE! Totally unprofessional shop. Don't waste your time with these people. Maybe they show up and do decent work at a decent price, but you could also end up wasting your time/money on a completely unprofessional individual. Look elsewhere. read more

I received a recommendation of a friend and decided to have Jim Dorsey & Son replace my heating unit. I regret doing business with them as they returned multiple times due to services issues related to the installation, for example, they forgot to turn the gas back on when leaving. When Spring (of last year arrived) and the a/c was turned on I learned that they sold me a replacement unit that does not work properly due to the limited airflow because they sold me a replacement unit that was not acceptable for the space where the unit is stored (this was told to me by the service person they sent out to check the unit). I trusted that they would sell me something that would work satisfactorily as the heating professionals, but I was incorrect!. I worked with them but was unable to come up with an acceptable solution to the problem and the owner stopped returning my calls. I don't usually write reviews, but feel that others should be warned before doing business with Jim Dorsey & Son. I have decided to have someone else provide heating maintenance in the future due to the inferior installation, installation, and customer service. read more

I would not recommend them. While I agree they should be paid for their time, they nickel and dime you for everything. They charged me $100 to snake a pipe that did not need it. Yes, the experts performed an unnecessary service and charged me for it. You could tell it was the end of the day because he just wanted to leave just by his demeanor. In the end I paid over $300 just to be told to call someone else. So I did. Soares came and said what Dorsey recommended was not needed. Save yourself time and money and call Soares first - that's what I'll be doing from now. They were cheap, professional and best of all they fixed my problem. read more

They've always come quickly, charged what I thought was a fair price, and stood by their work: When a clog they cleared re-clogged a couple days later (and turned out to be a bigger clog much deeper in the pipes) they came on a Saturday and fixed it for good. read more

I have been using Dorsey Plumbers for many years now, both personally and for the Emerald Woodlands, the condos where I am one of the trustees. There has never been a bad experience with them...not once. When called they are extremely fast with an appointment and always show up when scheduled. They have come out nights and weekends for us and always do quality work at a very reasonable price. In this day and age, that is really something. They also make themselves easily available for small jobs as well as big jobs. They are a company that can be trusted 100% in all aspects of their business and dealings with customers. They are also very comfortable to be around. Today one of their guys, Shawn, replaced my garbage disposal. Very nice friendly guy. Someone you feel you can actually talk to.
