Cotti - Johnson pricing is "EXCESSIVE". They appear to take advantage of people who have no plumbing or HVAC experience or knowledge. Note: They charge in the neighborhood of $115.00 just to provide a quote (with no actual work completed). They refuse to quote pricing on basic jobs (i.e. valve installation etc.) over the phone. I needed my hvac system serviced. I called Cotti-Johnson. An extremely informative and friendly technician arrived and addressed what was wrong with the ac and fixed it. My ac is working perfectly now. Jim Cyr is an excellent technician and he was patient while answering my questions. I would call Cotti-Johnson again in the future. read more

They installed a new heating/AC system and overall the work was satisfactory. We have two problems: the thermostat they installed is off by five degrees and our doorbells have not worked since they worked in our electrical panel. We were fortunate enough to have had our realtor suggest we use Cotti- Johnson install a boiler and hot water tank. We have a 100 year old home and you never know what you will find. Complications arose but they did an amazing job. Every tech they sent to our home were friendly, skilled and got the job done right. They could not have been any better. We received a picture of the tech and some background to insure that they were professional and knowledgeable. We always felt were in good hands. DO NOT HIRE FOR HVAC. Cotti Johnson has been the single worst contractor I have ever dealt with to date. If you have a simple HVAC repair, they may be able to do it but it's a gamble. If you have a large HVAC related work to be done, do yourself a favor and hire actually competent companies. Where to start... I hired Cotti-Johnson to replace my old oil boiler with a modern heat pump system as the main source of heat for my house. Thomas Kelly, who was the initial person that came and made recommendations on the replacement system, should not be in the business of recommending heating systems to people. First of all, there's no heat load calculation of any kind, which is the first red flag but I didn't know any better at the time. I thought trusting this expert would be enough. They simply guess based on the size of the house without knowing a single thing about insulation or any other factor. Second mistake was recommending a single indoor head for an entire first floor that's separated by stairs in the middle of it. My initial concern with this was dismissed by Thomas and I simply went along with it, again trusting the "expert". Unfortunately, we're now stuck in a position where we can not remove the old boiler because the new system simply can not heat our first floor evenly. We have hot side and cold side and unfortunately our dining room is now permanently cold. Third mistake was installation. It took weeks to convince Cotti-Johnson and countless ignored calls and emails to get them to fix a mistake they made with the original install. Even then, they had to make multiple trips to finally realize they didn't account for line lengths accurately and undercharged the system. They simply did not know how to deal with Mitsubishi multi-headed systems. I had to ask for proof of exactly how much refrigerant was being added in order for them finally do a proper calculation and add correct amount of refrigerant. Hire a diamond certified contractor if you want a Mitsubishi system and do not want to deal with these kind of amateur mistakes. Even after they finally did charge it to seemingly proper levels, they left bunch of screws and brass refrigerant line connectors/caps behind. It's amateur careless work all around and any trust I've had with them has now been lost so it's hard to actually trust anything they've done. To add more insult to injury, I have been trying to get in touch with Cotti-Johnson for over 3 months for correcting inspection results and so far all of my emails have been ignored. read more

This is an update to a review I wrote on 10/6/22. I tried to edit that review but could not get it to work... I am upgrading my review rating based on the efforts of one of CJ's key guys, Eric. As a result of the review I posted on 10/6/22, Eric and the management reached out to me saying that they apologized for the difficulties I had and they wanted to see how they could make things right... Eric came out and after some time and effort figure out what the problem was (which in the end - was not related to the Rinnai equipment but rather how it was installed originally - Not by CJ). Eric determined that the issue was the overflow off my roof onto the vent pipe which was backing into the Rinnai water heater and out onto the floor. It was a very strange, obscure issue which I am truly surprised and impressed he was able to figure out... but very glad he did. I guess I give Eric 5 stars and say thank you! But the issue of having the first service call worked by an inexperienced tech that replaced the entire internals of the unit, etc, etc, still weigh on my CJ rating. I am completely outraged with this service. I called them to have my furnace tune up done before winter. Two technicians came out and started working on my furnace. After they completed the service they addressed some issues they found with the system that were not critical. Their "thorough" inspection of the system also included checking the pressure relief valve, which they stated to be "in good shape". After reinspecting their work I found that the pressure relief valve was completely stuck frozen shut!? THEY HADN'T CHECKED IT AT ALL I can't believe both technicians completely disregarded checking a VERY IMPORTANT SAFETY FEATURE! And then they lied in their work report stating that the "relief valve is in good condition". Their negligence came at the cost of my safety because a stuck closed relief valve could have led to a DEADLY EXPLOSION! I called an actual diligent plumber who replaced the relief valve for me. He was in shock that the Cotti Johnson technicians were so careless! If you had work done by these guys make sure you get a real plumber to check their work! I warned you.​ read more

I had an electrician come by- Daniel and a team member (sorry I forgot your name!) to help me install some gfci outlets in the kitchen and do an inspection of the electrical systems in the house. They were prompt and gave me a call 30-45 mins before arriving; Erin their coordinator also mentioned that they'd do this courtesy called and I'm glad to report that they did follow through on it. They have a flat rate of $59 to have the electrician come out, but that also includes a complimentary home inspection of the electrical systems in your home to see if there is anything else that may be an issue. They did their inspection and emailed me a report that they generated upon completion for my review. I appreciate the communication and am now considering other services from the company. read more

We chose Cotti-Johnson HVAC because they are a Costco vendor. This was a huge mistake. Let me explain so that you don't make the same mistakes I did. Problems with Cotti Johnson: 1) They do not follow through with their promises. I scheduled one of their salesmen to come out to inspect our home for a new central A/C system installation. They no-showed TWICE. Each time, I called back and was told that the salesman who was supposed to come out was busy with other appointments and "should have let you know." Umm, no he did not. Just me, scheduling my day around his schedule, sitting and twiddling my thumbs waiting. 2) They massively inflate prices on their first quote. Finally, after 2 weeks and on the 3rd try, their sales guy shows up. After he is done inspecting, he tells me he'll have a "fair price" sent to me within a few days. A full month later, I get the quote. It is $7,000 more than the next highest quote I received. To put this into perspective, I got quotes for the job between $16,000-22,000. Cotti Johnson quoted me $29,300. I called the sales guy and asked why the price was so different than the other quotes. He tells me some nonsense about how Cotti Johnson uses "only the highest quality units" when the other companies are quoting their job on the EXACT SAME EQUIPMENT. After multiple rounds of negotiation, Cotti Johnson drops their price to $18,500. In other words, they overpriced the job by $10k. 3) They don't care about customers. Because of the Costco rebate (10%), we chose them. I should have listened to my wife and run away, but I was a total idiot. We scheduled the installation and...guess what...Cotti Johnson no showed! In the middle of a New England heat wave, we wait for 1 hour before calling. It turns out, they are so busy that they overbooked and can't come out for at least a week. I am pissed and end up asking to talk to the company owner. This guy's name is Adam Boccalini. Guess how long I've been waiting for his call? It took 2 FREAKING MONTHS before he bothered to call me. Run away from Cotti Johnson. read more

The positive: the HVAC system itself that they installed seems to be working fine. They also make financing fairly simple. They were also very responsive initially. But after they started the work the responsiveness ceased. They initially told me I didn't need my ducts replaced, even though the existing ducts in the house hadn't been used for years if not decades. I initially agreed to save an extra $2k, but once they started doing the work I decided to just get the ducts replaced too. I called the guy I was working with twice and left voicemails but he never called back. There was also an issue where the sales guy I worked with didn't share information with the installation guys about which electric heaters I wanted to keep installed. This resulted in them having to stay a little longer to re-do some work, and they were clearly frustrated. The guys on site finished the job and left. A couple weeks later I reached out to the company and left an e-inquiry to again request the duct work but got no response. I then called a different company who came out and did the work. They were shocked Cotti even said they could be re-used because they were in bad condition and filled with mice droppings and nests. No wonder I started getting foul smells in the house once the HVAC started blowing! I hoped Cotti would be my go-to company for HVAC work as well as future generator installation but, unfortunately, I don't think I can count on them at all. read more

I would not recommend or ever use this company again. My experience was not a good one. I had no heat on a particularly cold night and l called their 24 hour emergency number and was told the charge would be $189 to come out and address the issue. I thought the price was steep but agreed to it because it was pretty darn cold in my house. The tech came to my home that evening and was there maybe an hour and a half and told me there was a wiring issue. Never had an issue with the wiring before but okay. He went out and got some wire and used that to repair what the problem was. The boiler fired up and appeared to be working. I was then asked to sign multiple blank screens on their hand held computer system as receipt of work done. I had no idea what I was signing as the screen was blank! The tech then told me that charge for the repair was an additional $231.00 for labor and repair. Again, I thought the price was high but I was happy to have the system up and running. When I asked for a receipt I was told it would come to me on my email. I was told my boiler was old which I knew and the technician suggested I schedule an appointment for someone to give me a price quote on a new boiler and I agreed to this. Well less than 45 minutes after the tech left the system shut down and stopped working again. I called the emergency number again to let them know and the answering service took all of my information and said they would pass this on. I was expecting at least a call back. Nothing... So I was no better off than I was before I called but now just out $420.00. I received a message the next day from someone wanting to schedule a time to come out and give a price for a new boiler. No mention of my call back to them regarding the issue at hand. I called the office later that day to voice my dissatisfaction of the repair, or lack of, and no return call and was told the person I would need to speak to was on vacation so wouldn't get back to me for a week. I explained the situation to the woman who answered the phone and asked for my receipt which was not sent as promised. I did later that afternoon get a call back from someone . He asked what I was looking for them to do and I said - can you get someone back to look at this since I paid for the service and it was supposedly fixed for 45 minutes (enough time to get paid and leave) and then stopped working. He said basically there is nothing more they could do and I need a new boiler. I would never recommend this company and told them no thank you on for any pricing on a new boiler. Wouldn't do business with them ever again. read more

I had this company come out to do annual service on boiler, while there i showed him a shower that I wanted installed and asked for a quote. They got back to me two weeks later with quote, it was expensive but I figured they have seen the job so shouldn't be any surprises. Tech came out to do Install (I re arranged work and kids coverage to meet him that day) and after 30 minutes there the tech said he was unable to do the job. Don't waste your time or money. I signed up for their Cotti Care Plan in the Summer of 2022. They were supposed to come and service my AC in July 2023 but no-called no-showed not once but twice. In between I had an electric emergency - sparks coming from the control panel - and they refused to send someone that day. I ended up going with a different company who came immediately. The company called me in to make sure the appointment is still on, and two for me of the arrival time of the driver. on the day The driver called me and told me he was going to be actually early which worked great. The Payment for him to be here was119. He introduced himself and then he asked me what the problem was. he's very polite and he asked me where to go to find certain things and I helped them out. Took him about an hour to figure out what the problem was. capacitor had to be replaced I did sign up for a Plan. I haven't had anybody check the furnace or AC unit since I moved in. this was expensive but, includes them coming every season to check the unit over, cleaning and checking on electronics. and a percentage off if things need to be replaced. read more

Called Cotti Johnson to quote wiring a four zone mini split heat pump that I installed myself at my home. They came and quoted $2600.00 for the job. He explained it would take two people a day to do the job. I made the mistake of giving a $800.00 deposit. That same day another electrician called and gave me a quote for $860.00. The next day not even 24 hours later I called Cotti Johnson and canceled the work with them. The office help told me they already ordered material for the job and would deduct $160.00 from my $800.00 deposit and mail me a check for $640.00. Two weeks later the second electrician showed up (one person) and did the whole job in three hours start to finish $860.00.My lesson learned here is don't be too quick to hire just anyone. Get as many quotes as you can. read more

Don't use this company, they turned a 4 day job into 4 month and the workmanship was terrible. The unit kept failing and they had to come out several times to correct things they did wrong. It was a summer home and I was not there when they did the work and the place was trashed. The cut holes for ducts and registers and left the sawdust and wood scrapes. They forgot to connect one of the registers. Forget calling them for service I schedule a service and it was from 10-1, at 3:30 the tenants had to leave as they were cold. Cotti-Johnson said they were sorry and could reschedule for 3 days later! I contracted with them through Lowes, Lowes no longer does business with them. AVOID THIS COMPANY!!! read more

Cotti-Johnson installed a new HVAC system in my house including ductwork. From the quote process to the installation the company was great. Erik came to my house to give me a quote. I had a few questions and requests for changes afterwards and he always answered my questions. They even walked me through getting a zero percent loan through RI National Grid. Gil and Luis installed the system. They couldn't install the system quite as planned. They kept me informed the entire time and put in the extra effort to work around any challenges they came across. The thermostat (Nest) didn't quite work as it should have been afterwards. They immediately sent one of the senior folks out to fix it. Overall I'm happy customer. read more

I called on Saturday for an emergency visit because my furnace stopped working. Adam was very responsive and scheduled a visit in 2 hours. The technician Jeff arrived on time and was professional and knowledgeable. He quickly diagnosed the system and fixed the problem. He even left me a fuse just in case the board gets overloaded again in the middle of the night. The emergency rate was reasonable. Overall a great experience. They were very fast at responding and having a experienced tech come out. Tech and sales guys were respectful and knowledgeable BUT they quoted me 14,000$ for a new oil furnace. Got other quotes and they were way more than all the other companies. I got a better furnace replacement for half of what I would have paid going through cotti. Again their tech was great and knowledgeable and everyone was very helpful but 14k for an oil furnace install is absolutely over priced. read more

I see all the great reviews but this company is not a good choice. I contacted Cotti-Johnson to repair plumbing work that was not completed but still changed. Moreover, things that was not in issue before now is. The company put a chimney (flute) in and attached it to a broken boiler, while placing the piping next to the wood beams which would have caused a fire if the boiler (heat) was working, the house would have caught on fire and/or burned down. In addition, Cotti-Johnson did not do any fire blocking while putting in the chimney and left the old chimney (flute) so I have two chimneys on my house. I tried contacting Cotti-Johnson to resolve the issues but there was no response but with them emailing another customer's documents and invoice, in which I did pay the down payment for the work but wanting to correct the problems before completion. Needless to say, I had to find a new plumbing company to fix what to correct the problems in which is ongoing. I also, was overcharged. As a customer I expect to and wished things were completed with quality. I usually always try to give good reviews, but in this case, it is sad to say this is different. read more

Matt and his crew showed up on time today and completed all aspects of the Generac whole house generator installation in a timely and friendly manner even in the rain early in the day. This included the propane connections, transfer box installation, ground preparation (on a slope), solid base pad and placement of the generator. The team seemed to enjoy their work and working together under Matt. That makes all the difference! I would absolutely NOT recommend this company. I recently reached out thinking it was Superior Heating which unbeknownst to me had merged with Cotti-Johnson. Our heat kept turning on but wouldn't stay on. An issue we had previously. They came and 'fixed' it in less than an hour $210. Later that evening, I returned home and my heat would not turn on at all. Now it's 11pm, it's cold and I had three kids sleeping. I called and they wanted another $189 just to come out. After some debate we decided to have them come back out. Took over an hour to get there. Now it's about 1AM and the technician could not figure out the problem. So he 'guessed' we needed a new thermostat. Apparently there were melted wires. Great do you have one? Yes, it will be $500 to install (thermostat is $42 online). We decided against it as it was a week from Xmas and it was $500+$189 for coming out. We ordered a thermostat and had my brother who is an electrician come over. He said there were no melted wires but replaced the unit in 20 minutes as a precautionary measure. That company should be ashamed of themselves for guessing at problems, charging ridiculous amounts and not even guaranteeing their work. Two mechanical installers, two electricians, one carpenter and a gas fitter completed the job promptly and for a competitive price. Their office filed for my rebate and registered the warranty. In 2019 we bought 4 new minisplit air conditions units #Lennox from #Cotti_Johnson, last summer we a P6 error was being displayed on the units, and was not blowing cold air enough! I called them explained the problem and they promised to send a technician, after two weeks they send a technician who said no body told him he will need a ladder, also he thought it's only a cleaning order! He charged me $95 visit fee, saying it will be deducted from the repair order! Ok I paid, after 1 week two totally unprofessional technicians showed spend 4 hours searching for the leak, one of them was afraid to go on the ladder, the other said his knowledge about those units is not that much. Seriously!? unfortunately that day we had to go to a wake, and I left them with my son, whom they told him it's all set and that they injected the system with the coolant, they tested the systems and charged us $1000! Later I called the company asking them to send me a copy of the bill as they didn't give him one, I was ignored, then I had to contact them again, I also I asked why I had to pay all this money; it's not even two years old! After few days they sent me the bill but ignored to answer my question! Lately when the weather started to get cold, I started the System, and again I am getting the same P6 error and no heat! I called them again explaining it's our main source of heat, and we have kids and that I need it to get fixed ASAP. After almost 10 days they set me an appointment that later they had to change cause the technician called sick! A week later the technician shows up 4 hours late from the time frame I was given, as soon as he looked at the tubes he said, " there's a recall on the tubes used, and they got to be replaced, and he will tell his Boss and will get me an appointment to replace those tubes as they are the cause of the leak!!! A week later I get an estimate from the company for $2600 and when I tried to understand, why do I have to pay for a recall? I am totally being ignored, finally I was able to reach a manager, who promised to call back, but till now he never did! read more

I held off on writing this review for a few years. I purchased a wood burning insert back in 2011 and they recommended an install guy named John from RI. I have no real issues with EU as the sales rep I dealt with was pleasant and non pushy. My issue is that they did not properly vet the install person they referred. The recommended installation guy, John, made several crucial mistakes installing my unit. During the first winter I suspected something was not right in terms of downdrafts/airflow. I called John several times but he never returned my calls. (When he came to install I had an 'oh no' feeling when he told me he is a contractor and just does this 'on the side'. ) I called EU a couple of years ago to state my concern about John, but it seems it fell on deaf ears so I just let it go. Reason I am writing today is because I just paid a several hundred dollar bill to a real install company who told me that the flue was too short as it stopped well below the roofline, they did not cap the top properly, and the cap they put on was too short. He basically said whomever installed it really didn't understand how to properly read a house. So I do suggest EU to people but be cautious on who they recommend to install - make sure to use a company that has installation experience as it can greatly alter the efficiency and functioning of your stove. read more
