I try my best to experience the service dept before I ever buy a car from a dealership and I'm 100% glad I did. Matt Owen's from the service department should work at a shady car lot since he will convince you that he will fix your car and do anything but. He had my car for 6 days and barely fixed anything. My 2024 outback came out just as broken as it went in. I didn't make it out of the parking lot before it was doing the exact thing I brought it in for. 3 trips to Memphis 7 calls and a lot of money later they fixed nothing. It's a 2 year old vehicle and my issue was a mystery to these guys. I'm going to buy another Outback but not here. Matt doesn't return calls, doesn't fix Subarus and acts like nothing is wrong when you get irritated enough and drive to the dealership to ask him about it. Do better Subaru! read more

I have had good experience when I bought my crosstrek from them, Karen Roth was very helpful. That trust and good service went down the drain when I went last week to get the 60k maintenance. I was scheduled at 9am, the loaner lady and the check in lady were very nice and very helpful. They were knowledgeable about what they do and things were covered. I left the service dept around 9ish when I got the loaner car. Went back after 1pm, I was asked if I was told if my car was ready, I said no, I just wanted to wait in their waiting room this time. After 2pm, I got a text that the video inspection was ready with the recommendations from the technician. Then I was asked if I declined the recommendation, would I still want the 60k maintenance done. This was 5 hours after my supposed scheduled time. This was not the concerning part. The issue was the recommendation. My coolant was leaking and splatters all over the car. The technician recommended to have an engine replacement/seal which was quoted at $12,000. I declined the recommendation. I had it checked by another technician, and I checked it myself too (I had finished automotive classes but didn't get certified, just wanted to know about it). The issue of my Subaru was actually just worth $14, which was the reservoir cap, needing replacement. The leak, the splatter, and whatever the engine replacement was for, they were just worth $14 and NOT $12,000!!! All I'm saying is, please check and recheck, and ask questions before you say yes to their recommendations! You never know who to trust these days!!! The Service Manager messaged me and said, "it was their fault coz they have a new software that messed up the whole thing!" New software or not, it still needs verification and rechecking before recommending a $12,000 worth to a client! So be careful dealing with them! Do your part and be proactive! read more

STAY AWAY, FAR AWAY Update: 10/8/2025 I contacted the General Manager, Ron Ansley via email and forward the email thread along with all paperwork. They still refuse to work on finding a resolution to this matter. I'm contacting Subaru of Americas and will be reaching out to BBB along with my lawyer regarding this now that I have everything on email and documentation to build my case. The repair itself was over $1,300. I'm not rich by any means and I work a regular blue collar job, I'm like the rest of the Americans working hard for my money to provide and pay bills. This is very frustrating. 10/7/2025 My parents brought a 2020 outback brand new from this dealership. They took the car there from Jackson area to have it serviced by the service department and all warranty work. The service department & management is what is making me give this a bad rating. Since I inherited the car due to my mom's passing and having to put my father in long term care. I took the car back with me to Texas and tried to have the oil change done by the local Subaru dealership near my house. They discovered that the drain plug was cross-threaded so badly and over torqued to where it was unable to be removed and repaired. A complete oil pan was to be replaced when it only had 16,xxx miles at the time. Tried to call and email the Jim Keras Subaru service department with no response. Reached out to Subaru of America and they faced the same issue-unable to make contact with anyone after numerous phone calls, voice mails and then finally got a contact person to reach out to, Jim Largue. It had been some time from the repairs being done in July to today. During that time it took over a month to get ahold of anyone. Then juggling that while dealing with both parents personal and business affairs while living out of state. I was able to finally contact J. Largue. He requested I submit all the paperwork via email and he would review it. Then he replied back saying that they are unable to help with this matter just because the carfax shows I took the car to two shop since then. Which shop #1 was to get the emission and safety inspection done (to transfer title from Tenn to Texas) and shop #2 was the Subaru dealership here in Texas where they found the damaged drain plug and made the repairs for me once they were able to order a new oil pan to replace it. $1,300 for all repairs. Keep in mind, I have all documents showing all the services performed and emails with conversations with SOA regarding the wall block I have been dealing with them. I even saved the old oil pan showing the damage caused by a neglected technician at the Jim Keras Subaru dealership. I am a good 10-hours drive one way to Memphis and was not ideally (or road worthy safe) to travel all the way back to allow Jim Keras to do the repairs so I had to have it done locally to prevent any damage to the engine. Bottom line: stay far far FAR away from the service department. read more

I'll let yall decide what to rate this dealership. Context; wife took her Outback to get an oil change at Walmart (I know) and they drained the transmission fluid and double filled the engine with oil. Immediately noticing there was an issue of some kind, the closest shop we could take it to was a Firestone. We show up, they run a full diagnostic and checked everything and told us what happened. Gave us a full itemized receipt with over $120 in labor and all the tests combined, came out to around $350 dollars. They didn't charge us a dime for any of it. We towed the car to Subaru because they couldn't fill the transmission without a special pump. Subaru runs the same tests, changes the oil and ended up charging us around $400 dollars. We've never even been to this Firestone before yet we literally purchased a $40,000 car from this dealership. We don't go looking for handouts but in the context of everything including taking our business there and having a shop whose not once received a dime from us; we will not be buying from any Jim Keras dealerships going forward. As a business owner, you would think they know how to operate in good faith and when to capitalize on opportunity like that but apparently not. They chose wrong and it's clear we did too. read more

Selling $50 air filters and $800 brake pad replacements(which I paid for stupidly) I should have done myself for $100. Great service, great cars Well, it finally happened. The hybrid battery in my 2006 Toyota Prius went out. Can you believe it? After only 14 years, the 8 year warranty on the battery expired - along with the battery. When I found that it would cost more to replace the battery than the car was worth on trade-in, I decided I needed a new car. Disappointed. Car shopping. Not my favorite activity. All the research, checking out cars, etc. Not fun. However, when I went to Jim Keras Subaru, I met with Vinny Girard and actually enjoyed the process. Vinny is quite pleasant to deal with and not a "high pressure" salesman. We have a mutual friend, so that helped ease the process of going. He even let me borrow the 2020 Outback for a full 24 hours test drive. Nice. Better prolonged exposure to more of the features. A chance to try out the car in many different circumstances, more so than a short test drive around the block. The fact that I have friends who have had 4 Outbacks, and because I had a Forester myself years ago, made my decision to check out Subaru again. My wife a 60 year old school teacher took her car in for service and was charged $5,000.00 to repair. Vehicle's turbo was replaced but vehicle ran horrible. Again she took it in and was charged 100.00 and told that converters needed replacement at a cost of $9,000.00. We took to meineke and had them done for $500.00. However when vehicle was picked up from you all it was missing terribly and it was not when she took it in. You charged her 100.00 to tell her her converters where no good, and after we resolve that problem at meineke the car was missing pretty bad and they informed her that intake runner valve needed replacement which you all looked at and failed to mention any such problem. I feel like you ripped off a school teacher and never fixed her car at all just took her money and that is pretty sorry. read more

My daughter purchased a 2015 Subaru Forester on Saturday 4/20 from Jim Keras Covington Pike. The car was not driven at all Sunday because we were getting insurance. She drove it Monday 4/22 for the first time since purchasing it. As she was making a left turn we heard a knocking sound. Took the car to the to the service department on Saturday 4/27 only to be told that the vehicle needs a left front axle which will cost over $800. This was shocking to hear because we were assured by the salesperson that Subaru puts its used cars through a 152 point safety inspection and that any problems discovered are repaired. Apparently, axles are not checked which is surprising because it seems like that would be important. The service advisor Matthew Owens was wonderful. He went to talk to the used car manager about the repair on our behalf, but the manager did nothing to help. So now my hardworking daughter has a car with a car note and a major repair. My advice is DO NOT TRUST THE 152 SAFETY INSPECTION. IT MEANS NOTHING! If you buy a used from this location, take it to an independent mechanic before purchasing it. I now see why my friends told me not to go to this location, but to drive to Subaru of Little Rock for a vehicle. read more

Working with Joel over the phone was an absolute pleasure -- he was extremely responsive and we quickly worked out a deal over the phone without the back-and-forth nonsense I expect from other dealerships. To illustrate how quickly things happened: On Wednesday I discovered Jim Keras Subaru had a 2017 BRZ Yellow.Series that I was interested in. I called Joel and we started going over the details. By Thursday afternoon we settled on a number for the car, and then I drove to Memphis from Atlanta that night (~6 hours). Arrived Friday at 11am to a clean car waiting for me. Inspected the car and took a quick spin to make sure everything checked out -- it did and met my expectations of how Joel represented the car to me over the phone. I was forced into a situation where I had to buy a car, as mine was stolen. I was looking for a car that I had owned before so I went to Jim Keras Subaru to look at a Forester but that one wasn't for me and there weren't any others on the lot that I was interested in, however, they had a Volvo XC90, I had owned 3 Volvo sedans previously. It was obvious the dealer did not check the car out at all. I immediately had to put $1k into it and it needed another $1.5k worth of work, I've only had this car for 3 month. I could also see the electric module was failing because weird things were happening (park lights wouldn't go off for example)!and I found out through research that this is common. Needless to say, I had to trade it in and was out thousands. I will never recommend Jim Keras or newer Volvos, they are pieces of junk. I am also very disappointed in the Volvo service, very limited help and they are backed up a month or more. read more

Their service team is the nicest folks and have always treated me as if I was a valued customer. I am usually out of the waiting room before expected. They never leave messes in the car (yes, happens all the time at service oriented businesses). My salesman, Colter Boatwright made the buying experience smooth and painless. When I had an issue with the car, Vinny stepped in to assist with dealing with the corporate folks. When the corporate folks would not make it right, he did. I was baffled by low professionalism and pure rudeness of the sales representative at Subaru dealership. It took me about a week to convince my pregnant (!!) wife to give Subaru a try since I always wanted one and also heard some good reviews from friends and coworkers. Although she was settled on Honda or Nissan I was really pushing for Subaru. Well after it took me a week of convincing her, it took salesman Rob 15 minutes to completely turn her off the idea. He was so rude and condescending that I was wondering if he even works for sales. My wife was in complete shock at how discourteous and snarling Rob was and so all the work I put into convincing her was undone with one sweep of a man whose ego was larger than his common sense. When one of the first phrases out of a salesman's mouth is "We are not going to compete with other carmakers' prices" and then he proceeds to argue with the customer about the definition of the term "used" (lol) it makes you wonder whether the dealership is interested in car sales at all. I'm curious if manners get even mentioned during their salesman training at Jim Keras Subaru. What is the purpose of the salesperson at Keras Subaru? To spit out tech info about the car? I can get it online with much better accuracy. Show me the cars they have on the lot? A receptionist can do that as effectively. A salesman can be bad but this is first time in my experience a salesman was uninterested in making a sale to the point of vulgar behavior. So we got into our car and drove right next door to Nissan dealer. A guy at Nissan, Shawn, was super professional, welcoming and not only provided us with useful technical information about different models but also was very receptive to our needs since we are expecting. So my advice stay away from Rob and Jim Keras Subaru you are better off at the dealership that wants your business. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR SUBARU HERE! Unless you want to get scammed out of your money, my check engine light came on so I went to AutoZone to read the check engine light code(which is free). So I called Subaru and ordered the part I need, once the part arrives I drop my Subaru just to be notified they have a mandatory 125 dollar diagnostic fee. ( Keep in mind you can do this at any auto shop for free and you can purchase a code reader for less than that). I understand why they have to read the code but for that price they are just trying to get money anyway they can. After my car got diagnosed they said I had $2,500 dollars in repair even though I know exactly what the problem is with my car. I took it to another shop got quoted $400 to fix and it runs perfect now. This shop is a prime example of why people don't trust mechanics anymore read more

My college attending daughter who lives in the Memphis area brought her 2018 Forester in for the 18K mile service. I bought the Pre-Paid Subaru Maintenance Plan for the car - paying $995 for it to cover 42,000 miles - when I leased the Forester last year up here in Maine where I live. This 18K mile service was for the oil/filter change, tire rotation and a quick look-over. The service department at this Keras location told her she "had" to have the air filter changed now - even though it would be covered free in the Plan at 30K miles - and they also charged her for a strange "ethanol gas treatment." Cost of the 2 items = $63. An obvious "cash grab" since they probably were not making enough on providing the services to a Subaru Pre-Paid Maintenance Plan customer. I have had many Subarus and have never had this happen before at many different dealers in the US. Now I know why the service department at this location gets all of the poor reviews. She won't be going back to this location - I will have her go to the other location which gets the 5 star reviews and hope for better. read more

In preparation for a week-long driving family vacation, I took my 2013 Subaru, approximately 170K miles in for the had the road trip service. I like the service video and consented to the additional suggested repairs encompassing rear car bulb replacements and power steering fluid flush. When I brought the car to the service department, I mentioned that my check engine light had come on. The service rep, K. P., informed me that they could not do the check engine service because that would require additional assistance separate from the road trip service they planned to perform. This response sounded very suspicious. However, I was already at the service desk and did not feel like doing additional research to find another service provider. However, it seemed disingenuous for them not to offer the diagnostic for the check engine light, especially since they knew I was planning a road trip. This response seemed like some automotive double talk to do the easy work rather than the potentially more involved work that may arise when investigating the check engine light. After all, many auto part stores perform this service for free. While I respect K. P. setting boundaries and managing my expectations upfront, I don't think indirectly dissuading me from having the check engine light checked was ethical. After all, what if the check engine indicated a severe issue that went unchecked due to the service manager's actions of choosing to proactively and deliberately ignore it. At the very least, they could have informed me of the cost of the check engine diagnostic, which I mentioned most of the automotive parts stores do for free. But the service rep did not want to do it at all. While I may have to return to this particular shop again, I would not recommend using them. If you do, don't expect over-the-top customer service unless you purchased a new vehicle or the vehicle was more recent and still under warranty. Perhaps, my experience today signals a new normal for auto service repair, like the industry's built-in obsolescence with new vehicles. read more

After about a week of driving from Seattle, I stopped in at Jim Keras Subaru for an oil change, headlight, and multi-point inspection. They asked if I'd like a complimentary car wash as well and I said yes. There were other lights out, which I confirmed I'd like replaced. When they returned the car, it clearly did not get a car wash but as it was a free service I wasn't all that concerned about it. Within a week I had a flat tire. At the tire shop, I asked them to check the other tires and they were all between 21 and 25 psi. I checked my sheet from the multi-point inspection which claimed all tires to be at 35 psi. So they clearly didn't check this at all. It appears the employees of Jim Keras Subaru are more concerned about money than the safety and satisfaction of their customers. read more

I highly advise people to stay away from this place. My USB port to my radio stopped working. I drove all the way up there and they told me I would need an appointment. The guy I was dealing with wasn't the friendliest person to deal with. I clearly asked him if he thought the fix would cost over $100, but he said he didn't know, but probably not. I get there the next day and right before they take the car back I get a "oh, by the way, it's is $125 to diagnose the problem." So the guy flat out lied to me. I would have never driven that hour there the second time had I known that. I highly suggest people avoid this place. They are rude, deceitful, and do not care about their customers. read more
