I had a leaking pipe in my garage ceiling, and my usual plumber was not available, so I called Terry's Plumbing. A courteous woman answered the phone and set up an appointment for 10 AM to 2 PM later in the day. That time came and went, and no plumber had arrived, so I called again, and the woman told me that the plumber was on his way. The plumber arrived and spoke courteously with me, and he even interacted nicely with my dog. He cut a hole in the drywall in my garage ceiling. He initially said that he could not find the pinhole leak in my copper pipe because it might have sealed itself with calcium, but then he said that he found it, and he replaced about two feet of the pipe. The cost was $90 plus whatever it cost to fix the leak, for a total of $240. He wrote my credit card number, expiration date, and authorization code on a paper invoice to bill later. Unfortunately, water continued to drip from the ceiling. The plumber had told me that the ceiling would be wet and take days to dry, so I waited until later in the week to call about the continued dripping. The receptionist said that if the leak was related to the call earlier in the week, then they would not charge me a service fee. There would be a service fee only if the problem was new. The same plumber returned, and he cut away more drywall and replaced a section of pipe that was near the previously replaced pipe. He did NOT charge me again. I deducted one star from my review because the leak was not fixed during the first visit and because the plumber got wet drywall all over my ladder and garage floor. However, I would consider hiring them again, and I even discussed PEX with them. Tip: Check their website for coupons.

Knowing we had an active leak causing damage he justified the quote with scare tactics. We continued our search and by the grace of God found Nick who was able to come out the same day. He was clear in what he would do to correct the problem once and for all. He was extremely knowledgeable about old homes and guaranteed his work. The quote was fair. No scare tactics. Thinking it wouldn't be anything too crazy, I looked online for a company with good reviews and found Cheddar's. The online appointment booking was very convenient, and I was able to book an appointment for first thing Monday morning. Nick was communicative prior to the appointment and Joe arrived promptly at the appointment time. Cheddar's was able to diagnose that it was a much larger problem than a small basement leak, involving needing part of the original stack replaced. Nick patiently walked me through what he thought the issue was, recommended a company to come in to reveal access to the pipes and dry out the leak area. The whole process was a pretty big deal, especially since it's the first time I had to deal with something like this. Nick was so transparent, patient in explaining everything, committed to helping me fix everything quickly, communicated between multiple parties, and just was so empathetic to the problem and disruption it caused, that he even ended up talking me off the ledge multiple times. This was way above and beyond in regards to customer service. After everything was able to be accessed Nick, Joe and team efficiently worked, in one day, to update everything that needed done, walked me through everything they did at the end and demonstrated there were no leaks. I'm just so thankful they were the company I called because they were able to confidently handle all the issues while truly understanding the plight of the homeowner. The one star is for being charged twice, once for $1156.56 at 1:15pm and then for $1099 at 2:13pm on August 8th for a water heater that was supposed to cost $1099, and for being gaslit by two people after calling twice to report the double-charge and sending a photo of a screenshot of my bank transactions clearly showing that I was charged twice. On August 8, 2025, at 10:35 am, a technician from Greater Pittsburgh Plumbing was dispatched to my home for a leaking water heater and suspicion of leaking pipes due to some water damage to ceiling tiles in my basement. I paid the dispatch fee of $59.00 from my checking account using my debit card on July 18, 2025. Thankfully, the water damage was old, so I only needed a replacement water heater. I agreed to have my water heater replaced for the price of $1099. The water heater was replaced, and Greater Pittsburgh Plumbing charged my debit card for $1156.56 at 1:15 pm, which was the time that the job was complete. I thought the total may have included the dispatch fee (I forgot I paid this in July) or tax, so I wasn't alarmed that the charge was $56.56 over the $1099 price I was quoted. Then, my card was charged again for $1099 at 2:13 pm for one gas water heater that was supposed to cost $1099. Because both are pending transactions, I was directed by my bank to contact the vendor. When I called, I was gaslit by two different people, who told me I must be mistaken because they don't have the capability to double-charge, blamed my bank, and suggested I dispute the transaction as my only recourse. I called Greater Pittsburgh Plumbing at 2:36 pm, as soon as I saw that I was charged $1099 as a second charge, and spoke to Madison, explaining that I had been charged twice for the water. Madison proceeded to gaslight me, stating that the company can't double-charge and requested I email a picture of my pending transactions. I emailed a picture of my pending transactions, as requested (see photo). Hailey, who answered the second time I called, confirmed that she received and could view the picture, but still proceeded to tell me that Greater Pittsburgh Plumbing cannot double-charge me. She then blamed my bank and told me I could dispute the transaction. I informed Hailey that the transaction information was identical for both charges. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I will update my review if the BBB complaint is addressed by Greater Pittsburgh Plumbing. Update 8.15.2025: Greater Pittsburgh Plumbing addressed my BBB complaint and refunded the additional $1156.56 charge on August 13th. I am thankful that they addressed this mistake promptly.

The techs were very nice, especially the younger apprentice who came and made our dog much more reassured, as he sometimes gets nervous and barks incessantly when strangers are in our home. What we didn't like was the fact that we were automatically entered into their $97/year "savings" program. When we questioned why our receipt didn't reflect the alleged discount, we were told that firstly, our tech entered us into the savings program to save $300. We asked why the total didn't reflect that and were told that the discount was taken out on the receipt, yet they don't show you what it is. If that is true, two toilet installs, a valve replacement and bidet attachment install was nearly $2,000. It also took 5 days to receive the said receipt. Overall, we'll be looking for another, more affordable plumber.
