This is a review JUST for the smoothie/juice bar. The employee working there who makes the smoothies needs to be trained in proper food handling. He began making our smoothies with no gloves and was touching the blender, sinks, handles, drawers, and raw fruit and veggies. We asked him to stop and remake our smoothies with gloves on and then proceeded to do the exact same things with gloves on and touching EVERYTHING including the raw fruits and veggies. You would think after Covid people had some more sense about these things and I know CA has strict food handling requirements which include having to pass a test to get a food handlers card. This smoothie/juice bar, while it offers lots of organic options, will probably come with a side of food poisoning. read more

I guess I better get the statement out of the way, that this place is not inexpensive! I guess that's to be expected, given the selection of organic and otherwise high end products. You can certainly eat for a lot less money at the big chains, no question, especially if you are a savvy shopper, clip coupons, etc. That said, the quality of the products, and the service at Jimbo's has always been excellent, if not outstanding. Lots of locally sourced produce, including these amazing oranges I've been back for three or 4 times now! I don't eat nearly enough fruit, but I might be starting to catch back up! I have yet to encounter an employee that not only wasn't able to answer a question promptly, but also didn't do so cheerfully and thoughtfully. OK, double-negative might be a little confusing here.. Everyone has given absolutely great service. The meats I've had have all been really good, the pre-made dishes are excellent, and the vitamin department is very well stocked. One slight negative, and it wasn't enough to lose a star. I ordered a smoothie/juice thing from the juice bar, and got sticker shock at the price for the little size of the thing. A large at Robeks is less expensive, and about 3 times the size. And the real kicker.. Yes, I know paper straws are fashionable, and it's probably a crime to serve plastic straws anymore, but this paper straw was SO bad, it turned into complete mush within 10 minutes or so. So much so that the plastic points in the lid, where you push the straw through, ended up piercing the straw, rendering it completely useless before I was halfway finished with the smoothie. For a 10 dollar 12 ounce drink, I'd expect a better experience. In summary, I wish I could afford to do all of my shopping here, but I will still come in as much as I can. I love this grocery store! Sebastian is the man! I've been coming here for years and he is one of the main reasons that continue to keep coming. He does such an amazing job on the sandwiches and things he makes in the back it's hard to find better service or flavor for that matter. The organic grocery selection is huge! It has taken me a few years to write this review. The reason I say this is because I have been holding out hope that Jimbo's and their produce policies would change. Over the years I shopped at the Del Mar, 4S Ranch and Escondido stores and I see a repeating pattern of low quality produce. To charge customers a premium to get 100% organic and non-GMO is one thing but that is no excuse to sell sub-par quality at those extreme prices. So, this morning I went to Jimbo's to do our weekly shopping trip and of course, I see exactly the same old (bad) cucumbers sitting in the cooler that I saw a week ago (see picture). This is just the beginning. Last week, I went to grab green beans out of the cooler and ended up grabbing a handful of slimy beans. You see, they don't rotate their stock as they should. The fresher stuff was on top of the old and slimy stuff at the bottom. They obviously don't employ basic food rotation practice at their stores: first in, first out. It goes on. I shouldn't have to spend 10 minutes examining all of the berries in a container because you've been burned so many times. This is unacceptable. The practice extends to the deli area as well. I can't tell you how many times I've seen mold on the falafels. I bought some from the 4S Ranch store, brought them home and then was super disappointed. From that point on, whenever I wanted falafels, I would check them first. Every time I did, they were moldy. I've witnessed these practices and sub-par produce at all three of the stores I've mentioned. Since it is a pattern, I will extrapolate that this is due to top-down management decisions in order to maximize profits from already inflated prices. I think Mr. Jimbo should be embarrassed if he wasn't embarrassed enough by the rat infestation in his Del Mar store a few month back. If you don't believe me, contact the San Diego County Department of Environmental Health. If only Whole Foods was closer to my home, I would be shopping there exclusively. read more

I come here almost daily for there kombucha. This is where I go to be healthy. Everything is organic with no GMOs or pesticides. So much good healthy stuff to choose from with a great salad bar. You're not just paying extra for the organic stickers. Staff were quite friendly and the lines were short. The store wasn't too busy when I was there on a weekday evening. Been going to Jimbo's for years, we've moved to Ramona and I miss it. I loced the salad bar, the hot foods and the bakery. So why deduct a star? Well they are a little pricey but that'a not why. It's because of red onion. Late in kife I have developed an allergy to onion specifically red onion. White onion pretty bad, the little green oniions totally fine for me - and the sweeter yellow onion if cooked are not too bad. But my absolute kryptonite is raw red onion. Unfortunately, it's everywhere at Jimbos - in every sandwish hiding in the hot foods. Huge chunks in the tuna salad, massive curls of it in the chicken salad. Layered on sandwiches. Hiding in couscous, floating in soups, paired with beets, macaroni, you name it. The deli green beans used to just have almonds in them - now they added ONIONS. Walk around the deli Read the labels. Usually the ONLY ready made food I can find safe for me is the vegan macaroni salad and of course even tbat has green onion. Once in awhile they have a "simple chicken salad" that is onion free. That's it. So I deduct a star because Jimbo's has an unholy, unnatural love for red onion. This is common with all the little taco shops in Escondido - also closed to me as well..They put onion on everything, and even when they don't, they cut everything with the same knife and use the same grill and those red onion leak their fiery onion juice on everything. My mouth starts to tingle the heartburn and burps start and the onion makes it'a path of destruction for two days, me in agonizing cramps. It sucks. Why Jimbo's? Your affair with the red onion is really blatant. I go to Sprouts, Major Market, Trader Joe's, Whole Foods - no probably finding lots of stuff, souos, salads, readymade items - but not you guys. my nemesia the red onion - is everywhere to the point where I read ingredients on muffins and smoothies too to make sure you didn't throw some in there too. I normally order 4 cases of Bragg's Apple cider vinegar with Stevia from Rancho Bernardo Jimbos and they give a bulk discount. But Escondido is closer so several weeks ago I called in an order of 4 cases. Today, after all this time, they called me to tell me they could not figure out which type to order even though I explained (and sent picture) of the Stevia drink. Jimbo's is where you go for natural and organic fare, as an alternative to say, Whole Foods. It is, like, Whole Food's, just a step up from Sprout's, but so are prices. Jimbo's has consistently good and excellent red meat, and seafood (including wild and troll caught king salmon), also produce. Great dried fruit and nuts section too, as well as whole body, supplements/vitamins. Last time we were there had a beet squeeze juice drink and side shot of ginger juice, and a turkey sandwich, from, the deli section. All good. Smoothies and juice squeezes are 6.95/7.95 which is not cheap, but all vegetables and fruits are organic. Would recommend when you're looking for something you can't find at Sprout's. Now, the deli is not going to provide as much cold or hot food as Whole Foods, but it is good. The sushi at Jimbo's is decent, while for example the sushi at say Sprout's is pretty much confined to California rolls and not that great. In all, Jimbo's provides a great niche for certain foodstuffs and other products. read more

TLDR: It's overpriced for rude service - go to Trader Joes or Sprouts instead. I shop here once or twice a week and usually have a good experience at Jimbo's. The staff have been friendly and helpful, and there is a great selection of quality organic produce. Today was an exception. The people you pick to work here represent your brand. I went to the checkout line and set my groceries on the conveyor belt in the bags I brought with me, just as you would with a basket. The cashier looks at me and says, "can you take your groceries out of the bags...?" What? I guess it is asking too much for her to lift items from our bags and scan them - she will only scan them once they are by themselves on the conveyor belt? That makes no sense, but okay, whatever. She stands there and does nothing while my wife and I take all our items out one by one. She scans the groceries and of course... instead of bagging anything, or offering to help, she just stands there again. Do not worry, we will do your entire job for you, Rebekah. Rebekah is not helpful OR friendly - apparently, she will just stand there and scan things if they are sufficiently organized for her. I can start to understand the other reviews complaining about customer service - so far, it has only been one person though. This is the first time I have received service from this cashier - and while I have been a long-time customer, I doubt I will be going back. I used to shop here very frequently when I worked in Escondido, I came here about 3-4 times a week, most days for lunch. They have pre-made food that is very fresh. The big ordeal about this place is that if you want to live a gluten-free life (I try to on most days, when it's not my cheat day) and you're getting organic food and meats. In fact, most of the meats are grass-fed. I love their deli options when it comes time for lunch. I know the food is a little pricey, and you can't get all your grocery needs here, but it's to support the local farmers and they have every right to charge what they charge, you're paying for fresh food, not processed. This is why most of America is fat and have an obesity problem, because we rather go the cheaper route and eat processed food than pay a little bit more and be good to our organs. I see it this way....your body is like a motor in your car. If you constantly feed it cheap gas and cheap oil changes, and don't do much maintenance on it, your car is going to die on you a lot faster than when you do take care of it. I've been coming here for 3 years and finally the other day, I went in again for the first time in a couple of months. It was refreshing to see that they still got it all. In the past I gave Jimbos a 4 star due to the fact that every time I spent 100 bucks on groceries they all fit in one bag. However, in the last few years the prices of groceries have gone up everywhere. Jimbos prices while still above average are justifiably so. They really do have great selections of organic and whatever other health trend is in foods. I also love their food and juice bar, I go almost every day and rarely am disappointed. I do miss the salmon, tired of tilapia. A drink and lunch usually cost about $16. Not cheap, but it's delicious and healthy. Finally an organic grocer without the all hipster staffers and patrons. Lots of great local produce from "Be Wise Ranch" on sale here. The organic kale at sprouts is garbage that's why I take an extra trip to Jimbo's just to pick up the good stuff.. Same price 1.99 as sprouts too. -They sell black label Kombucha in a special case in the back. This is the higher alcohol stuff so you will be carded if you buy it. - Great quality meat and prepared meals in the cases. Nobody ever mans the dessert case, which is unfortunate. read more

A tree hugging, health nut's paradise, this place has everything you need for a paleo meal... and other healthy meals too. The food selection is non-GMO, super healthy, with a meat section and an awesome salad bar. They also have a juice center that makes shakes, smoothies, coffee, and of course juice. I'm not sure why it took me so long to get to this location, but wow I'm glad I did. I've been three times in the last two weeks, so I'm going to write about all of the visits. Everyone we dealt with in the store was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the products. They were patient with us as we made our decisions about eating as well. My girlfriend and I were looking for a healthy meal and I had always wanted to try this place, but my family can be a little picky at times. This was the perfect chance. We tried the Pastrami Reuben $7.95. It had natural turkey pastrami on toasted rye bread, organic stone ground mustard, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, and organic 1000 Island dressing. Awesome sandwich and it tasted wonderful. All the flavors made up the perfect Reuben for me. She got the Very Veggie Stuffed $5.95. It contained fresh organic avocado, organic lettuce, organic shredded carrots, organic tomato, sprouts, and Jimbo's organic herbal egg-less mayonnaise on 6-grain bread. Really awesome for veggie lovers, and even though I'm not the best at going meatless, I liked it. Very earthy too with the sprouts. We also tried the Berry Green Smoothie $5.95/$6.95 (12oz/16oz) with organic banana, organic raspberries, organic strawberries, organic blueberry blend juice, organic spinach, and organic kale. Sweet, but not overly and a great way to get greens. Our final drink was the Flu Fighter $6.95/$7.95 with organic carrot, organic celery, organic cucumber, organic spinach, organic parsley, organic beet, organic tomato, organic lemon, organic ginger, organic onion, organic garlic, and organic jalapeño peppers. After driving by this place for a year now, I decided to visit to see what they have. They must doing well with Vons, Major, & Trader Joe's nearby. They have a nice selection cheeses and milk. I love their smoothies, vitamins, and tea. There is never a long wait at check out and the cashiers are really nice. My only gripe was on my recent trip at the juice bar, the workers were just staring from afar behind their counter at deli and not helping me till 5-10 minutes later. Went to Tom's with family but of course I grabbed my own food on the go from Jimbo's because I am vegan. So glad that they have so many vegan options in this store, love their customer service and glad that you're able to taste anything before buying! One thing I'd really appreciate would be more whole food plant based meals not including oil or vegan alternatives like vegan mayo, because although being vegan makes an amazing impact on oneself and the world, not all food options are healthy simply because they are heavily processed. It does get the job done though, I will say. Speaking of not so healthy but delicious is there bakery with freshly made desserts! They also have lots of vegan options and can even make vegan cakes for birthdays or special occasions. I actually got a vegan chocolate cake for my birthday the past month in July and it was very rich. Another recommendation I give to those thinking about ordering a cake is making sure the one writing the specifics of how you want it to spell your name correctly (neatly) on the sheet so that in the future they can see their writing and decorate it with the right name. When I went to get my cake from the store they had spelled my name wrong. Regardless I was happy with the product and service I received, in the end they did give me the cake half off and I only had to pay $25 instead of $45 & they also rewrote my name. read more
