Extremely unhygenic. Over the past 2 months I have witnessed bakery staff either not wearing masks or wearing them but pulling them below their nose while they prepare food. Absolutely sickening given the current COVID-19 pandemic. Jimbos should learn from Trader Joes - complete sanitization of carts/baskets, hand sanitizer offered to every customer walking in, wipes offered to every customer leaving store, all staff wearing masks the correct way (over nose/mouth), wearing gloves and using sanitizer after checking out each customer + wiping down the credit card payment pin pad/screen. read more

I love the variety of organic foods and the vegetables and fruits are always fresh. I don't cook as often any more since all the kids are gone, so I enjoy the prepared foods like spinach lasagna, cauliflower enchiladas, chili.... I feel like I am eating fresh homemade food even if I'm not preparing it myself. I also like that I can buy chips without salt. The one negative I would say is if I can't find an item like red grapes and I ask a person if they have any, they always have this rote answer,"They are out of season". Well I'm not a fool; I know when foods are in season and out of season, so this is very insulting. It sounds like something the manager told them to say, and it has happened on more than one occasion. Once I went across the street to Vons and was able to buy the organic red grapes, so my advice would be to just tell the truth. People aren't stupid. ;-). I'm pretty sure this is the best grocery store that ever existed. I've been doing almost all of my shopping there for 18+ years. Their produce is so far beyond any other grocer. It will last 5+ days where others go bad in 1-2days. It is the only store I will bring my kids to because everything they beg for is actually safe to eat.. I say they can pick 1-2 items and never feel bad. Beyond that they are all non- gmo and are so generous with the community with donations and on every level. Ten stars and beyond. Jimbo's has always been my favorite grocery store in town, not only for the highest quality of produce and other health foods, but also for the friendliness and customer service consistently exhibited by the employees. It feels like family when I come in! Sebastian in the deli is one of the friendliest employees I have met, always happy and incredibly helpful. If I ever call in to ask about vegan soups for the day, Sebastian is there to help. He has gone out of his way to help me pick the best vegan soup and heat up some if I come in sick. He has helped with juices, smoothies, ordering cakes, and always greets me with a smile. I wish more employees were like him! I have been shopping at Jimbos for about 15 years but recently I have had to deal with the rudest cashier and supervisor the past few times I went. The rating is just for the Escondido location because the people at the other locations are pretty nice. Unfortunately the location is not big enough to just avoid those two. About a year ago I also used to go to the juice bar and the worker just ignored me so I ended up getting a juicer and stopped going to the juice bar. Now I will have to shop somewhere else because the Escondido location is the one near my house. Oh well. read more

Hi Jimbos, Escondido Been a customer for 5 years now, And am a regular. I would go out of my way for the organic coffee., and mostly organic deli and deliciousness. However the last few times I went, you bombed and am disappointed. The eggplant parmigian last week was horrific. Complete mush..except the eggplant eas undercooked and tough. I told the counter person right away, who said , she would tell the cook, but offered no replacement. Went in yesterday and had a veggie wrapped eith roasted veggies, hummus and lettuce and tomato. There was no hummus on the plain wrap, which was the protein portion. The lettuce and tomato was old and wilted. The eggplant again was not cooked all the way (You can't do that with eggplant) I told the counter person, who gave me a little container of hummus. Still was bland and not satisfactory. So I thought I would wash it down with a nice cup of coffe...which was burnt and bitter...C'mon..I refuse to go to Starbucks...What happening Jimbos? Not feelin the love read more

A woman on the floor wasn't kind or helpful in the least bit, but her coworkers made up for her slack tremendously, so I won't deduct a star on her account. Food items are clearly labeled, especially Vegan items, which is very helpful. The Vegan chocolate cake was divine (and I'm not even vegan!). My Israeli couscous, Range Rover sandwich (sub chipotle mayo & pepper jack cheese, per the chef's suggestion!), and organic mango dream made the perfect meal! read more

Took my daughter here the other day because we were craving chips and we wanted nothing else but chips. We walked around the aisles to check out the offerings and this place had a large array of items. At first glance, this place looks small for a grocery store but you'll soon notice that they have a gazillion items throughout the store. We ended up getting our taro chips, veggie sticks, and potato chips. We were rung up by a brunette cashier and she gave us the best attitude. She was very upbeat and happy to ring us up. I think my grand total came out to $11.18 upon which I was fumbling through my pockets for loose change. She told me to not worry because she had a quarter sitting next to her register. Wow! Not my favorite Jimbo's, but it'll do when I'm trying to stick close to home. The reason is that they don't have as great a selection of veggies and too often I've gone in to get something and found it slimy, brown, and rotten. =( Then there's the chicken thighs. We were getting these at the meat counter at the 4S location, but when we moved to Esco, we tried getting them at this location. But sadly, they're too small. They're like chick-size not fully grown chicken size thighs, so considering they're boneless, there'd be hardly any meat and we're primarily paying for bone. So IF I get chicken at Jimbo's I drive to 4S to get it. I don't know why they have this problem. And the bulk selection isn't as fresh, or as plentiful as the other location. They're out of things, like milk or yogurt often. Too often. It becomes kind of a waste of time and gas. But, there are lots of great things to say about it too. Like the customer service! It's almost always been pleasant checking out, with smiles and friendliness. They're great to stop in for a bite to eat if you're on the go and don't want your typical drive-thru garbage food. It's been a while since I lunched at Jimbo's...Naturally! I'm uber into this whole food store. It's definitely different than other stores that tote natural foods in their display cases. Everything at Jimbo's is free of man made chemical preservatives, they have awesome alternatives for vegetarian, vegan and meat loving diets. For example they have a house made veganaise that is Mayogasmic (with added dill weed). I can replace my mayo with this....on occasion, cause mayo is my go to.They also have several different types of vegan "cheeses" to choose from as well as mock meat options like Tofurky and organically raised meat. Now, the dining experience. They have a Hot food case available as well as a bakery and deli counter where they have pre-made salads as well as other fresh food items at your fingertips disposal. They have sandwich specialists eager to take your order and make a yummy party in your mouth. I didn't even wait 2 minutes before the Deli clerk took my order,I got lucky. They can get pretty busy here. No one makes sammies like they can, honestly, They are my sandwich layer/lavash wrapper Kings/Queens. They can stack a cold/hot sandwiches and lavash wraps like nobodies business except yours. The clerks are all super friendly,inviting and knowledgeable of the sammies they stack, the salads they weigh and the desserts they box up, this store is definitely into knowing the ingredients of their product as many different types of diets walk through their sliding doors. Moving along to the main course, so many choices to choose from so I actually took longer selecting my wrap than the clerk did to get to me. After the internal sandwich dilemma of 2017: PT Jimbo's I finally selected the Cali Wrap which had a generous portion of alfalfa, Creamy avocado spread all over, crunchy Romain lettuce, plump Roma tomato, Sharp Cheddar cheese and turgid cucumbers. They also have a really nice cold case with a bunch of different options if you're in the mood for something different. I got 3 falafels from said cold case and perused my way to the dessert case....To my delight that had chocolate to the left, chocolate on the right and chocolate in and all over everything. PERFECT, JImbo's you know me better than others. I sampled one of their bars, it was sweet, light and fluffy , BUT THEN!!! I saw it... THE ONE...The macaroon dipped, drizzled, smothered, drenched,covered, "I dont know how they got the chocolate on there" all I know is that it was covered in vegan chocolate that melted quicker than a hungry guy goes to town on a 2 lb turkey leg at the Del Mar fair. I was thinking of the chocolate delight covered macaroon the rest of my Jimbo's trip...my skin tingled in anticipation of the chocolate suffrage at hand. They do have an available dining area inside jimbo's where you can eat your delights right away in case there is just no time to wait and must devour your deliciousness right there and then, but...I mustered up some self control, self discipline and internal strength.... that and I mainly wanted a particular brew of coffee from a nearby coffee hole. I quickly opted to take mine off site since i was feigning for an afternoon coffee fix and I was eager to bite into my Cali wrap, falafel(s) and chocolate drizzled, dipped, soaked what ever the case maybe, macaroon of eternal suspense. The falafels sufficed. I wish they had them on display in the hot case, so I could enjoy them straight out of the kitchen and onto my taste buds.They were from the previous day and just needed to be heated up, but they were edible, They also have a Tahini available, but it slipped my mind to grab it and instead got an extra whole lot of chipotle veganaise to dip them in. The chipotle veganaise saved them. I only finished 1 since they're pretty freaking HUGE. NEXT, the wrap, everything I couldn't have even envisioned. Lunch build up was happening. I feel like lunch was having me. Exactly what I wanted after a couple days of stagnant fast food, not being able to work out and eating a lot of Mexican food. Everything was super crispy, cucumbers, lettuce, alfalfa, juicy plumpy tomatoes, it was pretty much a salad inside a lavash wrap, PERFECT. So I usually enjoy eating meat, prefer it, but it feels like a veggie week for me, so this totally hit the fresh veggie sammie button. DESSERT: VEGAN...GLUTEN FREE....CHOCOLATE....COVERED...MACAROON Yes! so different pastry shops have their own way of making macaroons. Some shred the coconut into larger sized strips and chunkier pieces. JImbo's hit the macaroon spot like no other. The coconut isn't overly dried out, as that is usually the case with places that offer macaroons as an option. JImbo's has them on the moist side and aren't tough to chew at all, they are so delightful to bite in. The chocolate melts in your mouth and oozes over the moist, finely chopped coconut pieces. I do all my grocery shopping at Jimbo's in Carlsbad and rarely visit this location but since I was in the area, I figured I'll just go for it and not have to make the extra trip. I really like the layout of this location. This store is much bigger than the one close to home which gave me a little store envy. The produce area was packed and everything seemed extra fresh - which made my smoothies extra yummy this week. It was also nice that I came right before the rush so I pretty much got to shop with very few people around. This is unheard of at the Carlsbad location because it's always crazy and packed - especially this time of the year. I was able to find everything on my list and then some which was great. If you happen to shop at Jimbo's, make sure you pick up their Eggnog which is sold seasonally. Honestly...the best ever and always a favorite at our holiday events. Upon check out, cashier was super sweet but I ended up buying $350 in groceries and had to bag the entire purchase myself. I usually don't mind but recently overdid it in a pool workout and its been super sore and it just aggravated it a bit. A bagger was called to the front but ended up helping the cashier next to us which really didn't need help. Also, I bring my own bags and they give you a nickle back or you can donate a nickle to one of their chosen charities. I rotate and this time I asked for nickles back. When I later looked at my receipt, the cashier only gave me credit for 3 bags! hmmm...I think I bagged more than 10! Not a big deal but come on.... read more

I feel the customer service here is very lacking. I shopped at Jimbo's on 30th street - when it was small and quaint in the early days. What is the emotional problem of the woman who works in the beauty product area? What a Biotch. The few times I had to wince after asking her a question. ENOUGH and I won't shop here any more. I spend a boat load of money at Major Market- and Trader Joes, but, no more at this Jimbo's. Their hot and cold foods are lame and they are way over priced WAAAAY OVER PRICED and shopping here is not like the experience at Whole Foods- where there is a great vibe- people who care and the employees have an attention span to both answer your questions....and better yet, listen to what your needs are. I stayed in Escondido for a couple of months when I first moved to San Diego last summer and Jimbo's was one of my go-to places to pick up quality organic foods. Like the other reviewers say, Jimbo's ain't cheap, and with Trader Joe's and Henry's only a hop skip and jump away, many people head over to the competitors instead. But you shouldn't. Wanna know why? Well, it's because Jimbo's is locally owned, with ties to the community and links to local farmers. Trader Joe's is owned by Aldi Corporation, Henry's was owned by Whole Foods but recently bought by Smart & Final, Inc. Two megalithic corporations. Look it up. Jimbo's prices are higher because there is no possible way that they can broker the deals with distributors like the big chains can. There are a lot of things to love about Jimbo's. This review pertains ONLY to the juice bar: I was viewing the menu for some time before anyone showed up. That anyone was Tracy. She greeted me with "is there something you want?" oooohhh. The thought that ran through my head was "this is not going to be a friendly and welcoming interaction". And it wasn't. I gave her my order and that was that. No other words were utter by her other than her greeting. The customer behind me was not spoken to as well. And that customer was a very friendly, upbeat person. But no words or eye contact from Tracy. When my order was finished she simply placed it on the counter and turned away to finish the other customers order. I don't shop here because it's 3 dollar signs, but I do come here for water. Second cheapest place I've found in Esco to fill up 5 gallons of water, then proceed to lug it around like a weakling. I like this refill station because the machine is well kempt and the water looks pure. Most importantly, the machine is indoors, which is safer than the liquor store next to our apartment AND it means you can pay $1.50 with credit or debit if you so wish. Win win win. PS. First place in Esco I've seen to sell Julian apple pie. Still hesitant to buy it because I don't want to botch it, but good to know. I crave it every time I walk by! read more

I shop at this location several times a week and just love their commitment to fresh, healthy, natural ingredients. I recently met with their marketing guy (we met via FourSquare and Twitter!) and he told me Jimbo's doesn't stock any processed foods at all and won't even stock any foods with white sugar. All staff are always friendly and helpful. The salad bar, juice bar and deli counter always have an abundance of choices. Prices are definitely on the higher side - which is to be expected for a store of this caliber though. read more

How can you not love this store! My favorite section is the deli area. They have the BEST tuna salad ever. Just a little mayo (I hate mayo) jicama, nuts, purple onion, and much more. I am a very big fan of Jimbos and have always gone to the carlsbad location. Despite that location being located at the forum shopping center and being very busy, I still love the food in the deli / hot case. I decided to try this location. My husband and I ordered our favorite sandwiches and I guess I was just a little confused being told they were out of avocados today when I had just walked through their produce section and there were a lot of avocados there. Are they unable to use the avocados from their produce section if they run out in the deli? It just seemed a little silly to me. The person who made our sandwiches said she would discount us for there not being avocado but we still paid full price for the sandwiches. Update: received a response from a manager that the avocados were not ripe and that is why they were unable to use them which makes sense to me now. I just don't think the message was conveyed that way initially. Like I said, I love Jimbo's and have been shopping at Jimbo's for years and I will definitely be back. read more

I honestly could not live in Escondido without Jimbo's. Every product in the store is certified non-GMO! All the produce is organic; organic, local, cage-free, grass fed dairy and eggs. The prepared foods, bakery and juice bar are all quite good. The scones whether vegan or not are great, especially the cherry almond. Excellent apple cake. A few gluten free items but wish there were more. The range rover sandwich, curried veggie salad, couscous, salad, vegan wrap, broccoli salad are just a few favorites. The only reason for removing a star is that prices are sometimes astronomically high. A pound of table grapes for $8. And, they could source more items even more locally--within 100 miles. read more

This is great place for getting natural and organic groceries. Besides the wide selection of organics, they also stock a wide variety of vegan and gluten-free foods. If you happen to be gluten sensitive, I'd highly suggest checking Jimbo's out. They also stock a number of natural supplements (chia seeds, etc), so it's really great for just about any specialized diet needs. As a bonus, they have a great charity system wherein the give you a wooden nickel at checkout that you put into a donation jar for your preferred charity. What a great idea! The only downside is the coffee. Maybe being a Seattle native spoiled me a bit, but my mocha was almost entirely milk. I can't recommend it. Yeah it's more expensive than Trader Joes and the selection is very similar, but I love the Jimbo's deli. They sell wonderful organic food, I especially like their sandwiches. They are light and healthy and filling! Every veggie sandwich I have had there, was falling a part because it was stuffed with so many fresh and juicy veggies, but I manage to finish each sandwich. I also like to have some soup with my sandwich (i have a big apatite) and Jimbo's has tasty, hearty soups. Plus, they have vegan soup. I have never had it, but I think it is cool they offer it. As an Orange County brat, spoiled by living within close proximity to Mother's Market and Whole Foods, it is extra nice to have Jimbo's Naturally as a choice when I head down south. It's pretty much the only time I want to have the name Jimbo and the phrase "down south" in the same sentence, if you know what I mean. ;) Honeybuns took me here the other day for breakfast as he knows I am allergic to pretty much everything on the planet. It's amazing I have the lady lumps that I do. Seriously. And what a sweetheart. So considerate. From the juice bar, we ordered some kind of smoothie that had a mix of extremely high fiber fruits and veggies that was sure to cleanse, an iced chai latte with soy milk, and the biggest vegan blueberry scones I have ever seen in my life. While we were waiting for our drink order, I got a chance to peruse the ready-made section and holy no-cow, I was ready to push in a wheel barrow and start shoveling everything in. YUM. All the goodies we bought were scrumptious! The liquid concoctions were sweet & refreshing; didn't taste like someone took a field of greens and blended it with some ice at all! The scones were warm, fresh, airy, and didn't taste a bit like cardboard. SOOO many blueberries. It's a good thing there was a bathroom in that store, if you catch my drift. BAM! There are rumblings of a fancy little picnic happening at the end of this week and I plan on coming here to stock up on supplies! EXCITIIIIIIING. I'm downgrading my review for 3 reasons: 1) I just don't feel like the staff puts a whole lot of love into their hot food. The hot food is often bland and mass-made. 2) The inside seating area is often not clean and the tables and chairs are wobbly. 3) The bathrooms are often disgusting. Being both a health aficionado (or "health freak" as the layperson may say), I was sure to visit Jimbo's Naturally during my visit to San Diego. I was not disappointed. Pros: 1. Raw Dairy. I believe the mark of a health food store is the selection of raw dairy. While they lack Raw Goats Milk, they did have very high quality Raw Cow Milk (California cows must be happy), and they also had legitimate Raw Cows Milk Kefir -- a rarity as most people lack the palate to consume such a healthful beverage. 2. Juice Bar. A juice bar is another defining factor of a health food store. They have a good selection of fruits and vegetables to choose from, and you can even get some more tropical fruits in there too. People know I get cranky if I don't get my raw beet juice!! 3. Produce. I try to limit my chemical consumption and of course they have tons of organic produce. 4. Meat/Dairy fresh. This is where health stores differ. Some co-ops are completely vegetarian (boo) while other health stores only carry limited selection of frozen meat (+points if local). Cons: 1. I give Jimbo's extra points for carrying fresh meats and fish, but I take away points for having farmed salmon from the U.K. Please, I don't care if you feed Krill to Salmon, farmed salmon is not a health food nor is it delicious. Fly it in fresh from Alaska baby!!! 2. I take away a few points for the fact that they get their bell peppers from Israel instead of Mexico. I find that the Mexican organic red bell peppers are superior to the Israel and also travel a significantly shorter distance. If I become a health buyer, I would never purchase produce from Israel when there are better alternatives. 3. Price. Expect to pay more money. Jimbo's Naturally is a relatively upscale health store and as such you will not meet hippie types there. The crowd is generally well off and actually quite friendly too. SUMMARY: For natural health, healing, and the greatest body strengthening nutrients available, Jimbo's Naturally provides it. I will gladly use my hard earned money to support stores like this because they share my deeper understanding of health and wellness. Similar values, great nutrients, and disease free for life. I am a fan of the Jimbo's in Del Mar Heights and the one in Escondido. TIP: Lone Star Sandwich at the deli is top notch. But tell them to go light on the sprouts, otherwise the dirt taste of the sprouts overwhelms the entire sandwich. Yuck. For a small chain with a great selection of unique products, Jimbo's actually has pretty good prices. I've always been greeted by their friendly and colorful staff, and I have never left Jimbo's feeling like I didn't get what I needed. That said, call ahead for the deli counter. So, I've now been to all of the Jimbo's locations (obsessed, much?) and here's how I'd say they break down in order of awesomeness: Del Mar Carlsbad 4S Ranch Escondido Yeah, this one is definitely not all that great. I noticed a lot of the veggies & fruit had mold on them. Gross! A lot of their bread had this same problem. They did have more produce than the 4S location, but if the produce is molding, then it's not worth it! I got a few produce items, though, and the prices are very similar between locations. Oh, and another issue that I've noticed at all Jimbo's locations is that they don't check their expiry dates on items very much. This rang true for this location, too. I have on multiple occasions bought expired items. I have returned some of them, when I feel it's worth my time to drive back there... But now I just look at all the dates to be sure they're still good. I hate having to do this, but I really must! Overall, I probably won't be back to this location. I drop a pretty serious amount of cash at Jimbos, and I'd rather give my money to a location that provides the highest quality items. Del Mar is still the tops. I don't live very close to that particular store (granted, closer than Carlsbad), but it's SO worth the drive. read more

Without Jimbo's I would starve at work most of the time. My guesstimation would be that they are 97% organic if not more. Jimbo's... Naturally! You cannot find an organic selection like that at Sprouts or Trader Joes. I'm all about making my own breakfast, dinner, and baking I'm especially fond of! For some reason I have a hard time grasping the whole making my own lunch for work thing. I'd rather just pack it with pre made goods. Bad use of money, but no one's perfect! Jimbo's oils, vitamins, and just general health section is always a large portion of the store. Which to me says that they care about your health and what you're putting in your body. They have a bakery with deserts that I try to to make eye contact with. Oh so delicious and healthy, like their carrot coconut macaroons! They have a freshly squeezed juice menu and sandwich menu for your desires. The cost you're paying for an item comes from the good stuff that's put in it. You get what you pay for and they do have some fair bargain prices. I usually get away with meals for a work week for $35. Which is basically 2 meals eating out and not knowing what I'm putting in my body. read more

sooo disappointed. I went here because they are one of the few places that carry quarts of Strauss organic ice cream, which usually is heavenly. Bought 3 quarts-$25. All three had been obviously mis-handled as they were completely full of ice crystals instead of smooth, creamy deliciousness. Horrible texture and ruined product. Either their freezers broke at some point or they were just left out for a very long time. The worst. read more

Sometimes the produce can look a little sad, but the deli is great and they have some good speciality items. They also sell Izze "soda" which is a big plus in our house. The staff is super friendly. Expect higher prices, you're in a health food store! read more

I love Jimbo's Naurally for many reasons. As a vegan, I can find products there I can't get anywhere else and their in-house bakery and deli have a wide variety of delicious offerings. The main reason I love Jimbo's so much, however, is their employees are so kind and friendly. From the supplement section all the way to check-out, the employees make me feel like I am at home rather than a grocery store. read more

I prefer Jimbo's to both Trader Joes and Henrys, but since my wife prefers both of those, guess where we shop more? Recently, since buying meals at Healthy Creations, Jimbo's is on the way, so we've been shopping here more. Great quality, locally grown produce, and great deli! read more
