a hand holding a cigar
Tom M.

Jimenez tobacco is a family owned business a block away from Newark's Prudential Center. Sadly, I've yet to visit the shop but have had their cigars many times over the years either from purchases made at the Pru Center at NJ Devil games or like today, my coworker picked some up for me. Great tasting handmade cigars made by a family that takes pride in their products. Highly recommend their cigars and will make it a point to visit the store for a drink and a smoke in their outdoor area.

My boyfriend has lived in Newark for 16 years and he loves the restaurants, culture, and people in the area. I have to admit, he really knows some great places and Jimenez is definitely one of them. This place is a hidden gem, right across from the Prudential Center. The owner greats you warmly and spends time talking to you over a cigar, while is mom is in the back handling the cigars. The Connecticut cigar is the best one out of the bunch and the Moscow mule is pretty amazing as well. There are multiple rooms and a cute outdoor patio. We plan on throwing a happy hour soon - and can't wait to go back.

Buffalo Trace and a hand rolled cigar. Doesn't get any better than this!

Stepping back in time! Absolutely LOVE the decor. Y'all need to open up in Richmond, VA! You would absolutely KILL in in Scott's Addition! Service is 5 stars. Robusto Maduro is absolutely the best and smoothest I've ever had. I can imagine the Rat Pack coming here after a set. Also had a 60 gauge Maduro. So fine! All class!! Excellent bourbon selection. I went with Buffalo Trace. I will be back!!

Great place to have a cigar and relax. My husband goes there regularly. Lounge is always expanding; check out their second floor! Cozy byob next to a fireplace will almost make you not want to leave. Ask for Peter!

This is a great hidden gem in Newark! From the outside Jimenez does not look like much, but it has a bunch of great hand rolled cigars and a giant lounge area. The cigars are all rolled in house. Make you nervous? Me too. But I swear the cigar I had (Brazilian robusto for $12) was delicious. It had a tasty maduro wrapper and had obviously been aged some so that it was a good medium-full smoke. Pretty neat that you can see them rolling cigars when you come in as well. When you enter the cigar shop, you'll notice that there the cigar lounge looks and feels like a townhouse. The downstairs area has a small smoking lounge and the cigars line the walls on the right of the entrance. Directly outside of the front door there is a small table and a couple of seats. There was a little Hispanic lady that greets me who spoke cigar, but was obviously more comfortable in Spanish. I'm guessing she is one of the owners. Walk up the stairs and there are several areas where you can smoke. A large outdoor lounge, a few TVs, a couple of bars and plenty of seating. The decor is a bit odd, there is a Virgin Mary statue with dollar bills pinned to her and lots of antiques. There is a third level as well, but I'm not sure what is up there or if it is open to the public. The fellow smokers were very friendly. It filled up by 4pm. A minute or two after I came in I ran into a nice gentleman who offered me a scotch in celebration of his birthday. Coincidentally, my birthday was a couple days ago, so we celebrated together. Rule to live by, never turn down free alcohol.

I was really excited to find this place and also amazed to find a cigar lounge in Newark that is essentially a Victorian-styled house. It's right around the block from the Prudential Center and unlike anything you've probably seen in town. The front entrance opens to a small sitting area and display cases where you can grab something to go or sit and watch the TV downstairs. They will cut and light one for you at the counter if you wish or pack them to go. I decided to grab a few cigars and explore upstairs. It's hard to summarize the atmosphere in Jimenez, but on a cold and windy day it was a welcome oasis. It was quiet and dimly lit, the bartender was preparing his set-up for the evening and they were playing old French jazz standards throughout the rooms. It's a place where you can sit by a fire and read or have a drink and b.s. with any of the friendly people who stop in. Peter, one of the proprietors, is super nice and accommodating in offering to take your jacket or a light and a scotch with your cigar. I was excited, but apprehensive to review Jimenez because it's difficult to do it justice, but I suggest stopping in for yourself. I've left out a ton of details so as not to ruin the experience, but it's a diamond in the rough that I recommend to anyone looking for a little leisure in Brick City.

My favorite cigar bar! Energy and vibe here is so chill. Drinks are delicious Music entrainment on point ALWAYS

One of the best kept secrets in Newark! Walking distance (two blocks) from the Prudential Center. This isn't your typical cigar shop. All cigars are blended and rolled in-house. The Jimenez family has been making cigars for over 100 years, and it shows. It doesn't matter if you're looking for a mild cigar, or a full bodied cigar, Jimenez has a great variety. Regardless if you are new to cigars or a seasoned aficionado; they will give you great advice and recommendations. Cigars burn well, taste great and are competitively priced. Jimenez makes all our corporate and specialty gift cigars, with customized cigar bands. The lounge is open to the public. But being a member does have it's privileges; from private humidor lockers, discounts and extended hours for special events / parties. There are three lounge areas, a sitting room with a TV on the first floor; the second floor has larger lounge with two televisions and a second room in the back (quite room), that's great for conducting meetings. The regulars are friendly, always greeting new customers to join them. Currently they are a BYOB; so bring your favorite beverage, they will supply the glasses, ice, etc.... During the summer they have a beautiful outside patio, adorned with palm trees, flowers and a seating area. A great place to sit & relax after a long day. Next time you're in the mood for a cigar, stop by; ask for Peter. Tell him Dennis sent you!

Great old school Cubano atmoshpere. Smoke shop is downstairs with a small selection of their own cigars. upstairs is a great place to smoke and open a bottle of scotch. Mariana is the hostess upstairs who cuts and torches your cigar. Very hospitable both the owner and the hostess. Will return but will bring a bottle with me this time. Wish they had food. Parking is available.

Most recently was last night and that was my last straw. The music was incredibly and unnecessarily loud which they knew because they told us they'd turn it down before we got the chance to ask. Next, there was one waitress on the floor, clearly overwhelmed. Told us she would be back with water but came back almost 20 mins later. We ordered our wine when she came back because who knows how long it would take to receive it. Another 20 mins, maybe more. We watched her seat several groups and I literally had to scream across the room to get her attention and to remind her of the bottle we ordered, which she had the nerve to appear annoyed about. We asked her if we could move from our tables to a nearby couch which she said yes. Before we had a the chance to finish the bottle the GM comes over and tells us to move our seats and that he would take care of us (NEVER DID NOR DID HE CHECK IN). This is the same GM who asked me to give the place another try after the last issues we encountered where they screwed up our checks due their own carelessness. I should've raised more of an issue and questioned him more. But nevertheless we move to these two musty smelling seats. At that point we left and decided that would be the absolute last time. Go at your own risk!

For this particular event it was ticketed at $30 and in order to be seated we had to purchase a bottle of wine. Luckily it wasn't too pricey and since we got there early we were able to get a seat still and order a bottle of wine for $58.10 with gratuity included. The service was excellent and they would come check in on us. We were able to close our tab with no issues when we were ready to leave. As for the R&b night it was a nice vibe. Definitely perfect for a girls night out as well as a date night. If you are single and looking to mingle I'm not sure this event is it. There was definitely more women there than men and most of the men there seemed to be with someone. Overall consigliere is a cute and cozy spot. My sister and I agreed that we both would come back for more of a low key vibe when we want to grab some wine or a mocktail and when there is a non ticketed event. I think we are at the point where we like more low-key things and when things are not overly crowded.

The restaurant is a beautiful corner spot with wonderful lighting and a warm, inviting ambiance. Since it was our first time trying Georgian cuisine, we decided to share a variety of appetizers. Of course, we had to try the famous Adjaruli Khachapuri, and it was every bit as decadent as people say! The service was very attentive. If you're a party of six skinny people, you'll do just fine in the chairs. If you're fat Americans like us, it's going to be a tight squeeze. They do a really smart thing. The window seats are pushed a bit away from the windows, so that when the waiter comes to take your order, they don't block the middle aisle where people are trying to walk or carry stuff to tables. Brilliant idea, and one which I wish more would do. The chairs are those mid century modern rattan backed chrome bottomed office chair looking guys. They're comfortable enough, even for us fats, but the rattan was starting to wear out. Hopefully, they'll see to getting them serviced, because it makes the place look a bit ragged. The tables were a lovely size, with plenty of space for our drinks, our food, and the beautiful bespoke charger plates they had on the table with Sihana branding on it. They kept the TVs and other built in furniture from the old Kinjo that used to be here. When we went, the stuff on the TVs was pretty generic. This is fine. Not a lot of places know what to do with those TVs. Back when the location used to be KInjo, they played either K-dramas, Anime, or other such themed shows on there with subtitles, so that it keeps the place on theme. This is NOT an allergy friendly place. If you're vegan, you're going to get either the cocktails, or a dry salad. Also, there's cocktails that have honey, so watch out for that as well. The falafel sandwich, which should be vegan anywhere else you get it, has egg in it. Not ON it, but IN it. The fries are all cooked in shared oil. How shared is the oil? One of our table mates got a mild allergic reaction (she has a shellfish allergy), and had to grab a Benadryl when she got home. It wasn't bad enough for her eyes to close up and have to go to the hospital, but her face was getting flushed, and she started getting really itchy. I'm sure the food was fine. I've been with this group dining out several times. If they're seriously enjoying themselves, they'll usually be raving about what's on their plate, and let the waiter know how good it all was. That didn't happen here. Everyone LOVED the appetisers. That cheesy bread situation was a huge hit. The cocktails are strong, and beautifully made. Well balanced with the right blend of sweetness, tartness, and slight burn of alcohol. Absolutely no complaints there. When the bill came, there's a credit card processing fee. I'd say the place is good. Here's why they're getting full marks: The waiter let us know IMMEDIATELY that there will be nothing for me to eat. He didn't have to go to the kitchen to ask what was safe. He knew immediately that there's nothing at all on the menu that's safe for me. That level of knowledge tells me that you've got a waiter who takes pride in knowing his job, and does it to the best of his ability. You've got an absolute gem of a wait staff in general. I wasn't bothered, because I live very close by and can eat at home. Just know that I'll never set foot in there again. I'm not sure that anyone else would be too eager to go back either. I've been to steak houses that had more option.
