Food: Good buffet with quality food and fresh salads Drink: Free drinks but I was in "work mode" the entire time. Opted for water, and the lounge has a nice bottle filling station too. Extremely disappointed. I had an early flight to Tokyo, and wanted to indulge in the lounge and get some breakfast . Upon entry, I wanted to get a coffee, along with some Baileys. However, I did not see anyone at the counter, I went toward the other side as the bartender is having a text-a-thon. I wait, and she finally comes over with an attitude, as if I did something wrong to disturb her. After this, I go to see what I can but the offerings were just so-so. They do replenish the food quite often, though. I attempt to get a second drink about 45 minutes later, she's still texting away and this time another worker had to let her know someone was citing to be served. Ridiculous. For that quiet moment before a long flight, the EWR Polaris Lounge is a great spot. It's roomy enough so you don't feel overwhelmed and the food and service are just what you'd expect from a top United product. I will say, though, that I think I'll be skipping O'Hare for launch points and transfers as their Polaris Lounge is not up to snuff as compared to Dulles and here. Just my 2 cents. read more

Once again, service at the bar is absolutely terrible. Worse than at an average United Club. Polaris is far behind the experiences offered by competitor such as Delta One and Chase Sapphire Reserve. Delta One is especially far better at fast customer service. The bartender at this Polaris is courteous, and makes an excellent martini, but responsible for far too many customers. And, they can't make an espresso martini because they are out of coffee liqueur. There are just two bartenders for a bar full of customers plus dozens of tables with servers bringing over drink orders. It's extremely noisy. This UA lounge is in Terminal A, its staff are combative and rude! It's full and closed to One-Time pass, which is what I've. "Can you put us on the waiting list?" "NO. Look, we're busy. ... It's from Chase." She forcefully pointed to the room. So we're an outcast? "Read the fine print!" She yelled. "Or you can go to Terminal C." Hmmmm... any time when someone reminds you to read the fine print, it's usually a good sign that you never have to deal with them again. ... a.k.a. Wow wow wow! Really loved the buffet, it was an entirely full spread. Their staff was on top of clearing empty plates in the main lounge. The restaurant had a 30 min wait with a maximum dine time of 45 minutes. Within the restaurant, the lights were dim and ambiance was full tilt. The United Polaris lounge located in terminal C in Newark airport really hits the spot. It's huge, has a full buffet of ready to eat entrees, salads, desserts, beverages everywhere. There's a long bar that is usually staffed with at least 3 bartenders who make exquisite cocktails! The dirty vodka martinis put me in a happy calm, ready for a long flight. There's a fridge with bottled waters to stash in your bag for the flight. Many private bathrooms too, though you'll surprisingly find people waiting to use one. One of the nicest parts of this lounge is the restaurant. When you first arrive, I suggest visiting the maitre d to put your name in as there could be a wait for a table. They'll text you when your table is ready. Many nice window views here too. The menu in the dining area will offer delectable offerings (often seasonal), soups, salads, small portion entrees and desserts. You can order and eat as much as you like. Lowering stars because the dining room here did not have all of the dishes we wanted to order, such as the crab cake and the scallops. Granted it was around 6ish, but still unacceptable! We usually love the Polaris lounge because it is not as crazy crowded as the normal United lounge. And this time we had our baby. I have to say the staff and even the other travelers were all gracious and understanding of our baby. At one point in the restaurant our baby could not stop crying, and a next table family were understanding and telling us their experience with their little baby. I have been to a few United Polaris Lounges and I think this location is the best. The buffet had appetizing options like masala butter chicken and basmati rice, split pea and kale soup, and chocolate mousse. There seemed to be a good selection. Not only did it have a decent buffet, the dining room is pretty efficient. The dining room menu was a tad smaller than that of other locations, but the portions were decent sized and I received my food within minutes of ordering (likely due to the streamlined menu)! I also liked how there were single person tables, as most business travelers did not need to take up a large table. The Newark Polaris lounge continues to be one of the best Polaris lounges in the USA. The lounge is very large and they have plenty of seating although it can get a bit full. The buffet is pretty good and the service in their restaurant is excellent. I got the beet salad in the restaurant which was delicious, as was their chicken with mushroom dish. They were all very good--much better than the Polaris plane food. It was a bit noisy. Why are there so many men who think everyone wants to hear their phone conversation? I was lucky to have had a chance to check out the Polaris lounge at EWR. This lounge is massive and is a very modern and updated interior. There is a large bar that has a menu of traditional or specialty cocktails, but the bartenders also make things off menu. Similar to other Polaris lounges, there is a dining room. Seems like sometimes it can be quite busy. I was lucky I only had to wait 15 minutes. The dining room set up has several little tables along the window for solo travelers which helps with turnover of waitlist. The staff were friendly and did not rush anyone. There is also a buffet which had a few options including a nice salad bar. At the opposite end of the lounge, you can sign up for shower suites as well. There's a salad bar, a tapas bar, a couple of hot dishes which were ok but not great. Tea options were also minimal. There is a nice bar area but I don't drink so can't comment on it. The reason for the 4 stars is mainly because of the dining room. Although it was a long wait, I thought the food was decent for US airport lounge standard. I ordered the crab cake, scallops and burger. The crab cake was crispy on the outside and packed with crab meat an inside. The scallops were a decent size, nicely seared and cooked perfectly. I had a long layover at this lounge recently and enjoyed my stay! Daybed/resting area was perfect to catch up additional sleep after flying a redeye flight from west coast. Took shower to freshen up, moved to the recently expanded dining area. The lounge has a buffet section where you can grab what you want, and an Ala carte dining section (i.e. restaurant style) where a server brings you individual dishes just like other Polaris Lounge (incl LAX). I was actually impressed with the quality of the food. I had Wild Mushroom Bisque, Crab Cake, and Seared Scallops - they were all tasty and true restaurant quality. There are showers, individual restrooms at both ends of the lounges, a buffet with a wide variety of food, and a separate dining room with a special menu that you can also dine in. There is plenty of seating - at dining tables, at the bar, single seater comfy chairs with views of the runway, and oversized single seater chairs with a table attached. Charging ports are plentiful. The bar has one TV if you're looking to watch sports. There are mini fridges with small bottled water and sodas you can take with you. The staff is constantly coming around to clear out dirty dishes. The Polaris lounge is for international business class passengers and some first class passengers on Star Alliance flights. A solid buffet, bar, full-service restaurant, quiet area, showers and private bathrooms, this lounge is not crowded in the morning when I was leaving, and has plenty of space (unlike some of the other lounges I've been to). Big open floorplan (27k sq ft). From other travelers, apparently this gets very popular and busy later in the day. Located in Terminal C, near gate 120. While not the best food in a lounge, it is pretty consistent, and staff were hanging around ready to clean up any plates or cups or bowls you were done with quickly. Entering, you will be asked for your boarding pass and they'll confirm access; if you have any questions, they'll be happy to answer. Ample seating, very large couch and chairs, with almost every area having charging stations. Overall a pretty solid experience, though I do wish they served lunch/dinner fare all day - the breakfast food was more or less a US breakfast buffet and not so much international cuisine like I've had abroad. read more

I was so excited to finally get through the doors of the Polaris lounge for the first time. I've read all of the reviews from the most traveled bloggers/vloggers as well as viewed several hundred photos. I arrived at 3pm and it was fairly busy. By 4:30pm it was packed. The first thing I was determined to try was the full service dining area. The food portions were small, which I assumed was to accommodate international travelers who are use to smaller meals. I got the Polaris burger (which was mostly bread and lettuce) and it came with THREE wedge fries. The burger was cooked perfectly, but could've used more seasoning. The fries were nice and crispy. I'll admit it wasn't too bad of a meal, but I was expecting a bit more. I could've easily had two burgers and room for dessert. My server was very slow and didn't come back after I finished eating, so I just left the table 20 minutes after I finished off dessert. I saw everyone else's servers making their rounds in the dining area almost twice as much as I saw my own. Depending on the time of day your urge to go hits, the bathroom is typically clean and tidy. It didn't smell bad and it had nice hand soap. It didn't make my hands feel sticky and the consistency was nice (didn't feel cheap). Unlike most public toilets these have lids and it makes them more pleasant. There are also huge body mirrors on the back of the door so you can check your appearance or gussy up. Even though it was extremely busy, all of the shower suites were available and only one quiet room was occupied. Ironically, the quiet room itself wasn't very quiet. You can hear staff come and go - some simply walking and others loudly talking or singing or laughing. The "beds" were also uncomfortable. The curve of the chaise isn't a natural position one should lay in. The quiet rooms do not have doors so you can hear other people sleeping (and snoring). On the flip side, they do provide a sleeping mask, ear plugs, water, a mint, and a sound machine. For some reason I thought they gave you 4 hours to nap, but the woman at the desk said it's only 45mins to 1hr. I don't think I was expected to keep track since she didn't come to tell me my time was up. I stayed in the quiet room for about 1hr 45mins. Overall, the best thing about the Polaris lounge was the staff. I thought I lost my diamond rings in the bathroom and they went above and beyond to look for them and myself to hand them to me. I'm very grateful that they didn't just brush it off and throw up their hands. I can't wait to come back on my return flight and try the buffet. There weren't a lot of choices for the full service dining, and me being a picky eater, I didn't find anything else on the menu other than the Polaris burger appetizing (not including dessert). This lounge definitely made my 7hr+ layover fly by. Just one tip - make sure to get a seat by the window looking out towards to tarmac. read more
