Visited last Monday 4/1 at 7:00 and we decided to eat at the bar and watch the Astros....Only two other people at the bar and slow not very many cars in the parking lot. Bartender was present but chose to ignore us for about 5 minutes and I said to my wife we will give it one more minute when he finally came over and said what do you want? Ok....my wife said can I get a small Bud light and my husband will have a tall and would you mind wiping down the bar(it was disgusting food everywhere small rice piles,plates, silverware etc...) and he said sure...grabbed the plates and then a rag...he sprayed the rag with some cleaner and with the rag kind of flat I guess wiped the area...you had to see this the rice was flying around and really was making more of a mess and he was done...there were still filthy sticky spots all over...rice still all over the place and he wiped maybe half of our area...rest of bar was still a mess...and still was when we left. I looked down and rice was still all over the place and he saw by my look and flicked the remaining rice away with the rag....and then got us our beers...while he was pouring my wife said let's just leave and I said we ordered let's drink them and then go..(I was hoping he would take another look and redeem himself)..Nope...he asked if we wanted a menu and we said just a check...At this point I started to look behind the bar and it was filthy....manager if you read this take a look it needs a serious cleaning back there....it made us wonder do we want to eat here? Ahhhh...no....not even in the dining room because if the bar is that dirty I can't imagine what the kitchen must look like...chugged my beer....and we went to the next closest Mexican restaurant Chuys which I have not been to in more than 10years due to bad experience in Austin...was quite surprised because complete opposite....clean, friendly bar tender and we actually enjoyed our food. read more

I was there on 12-30-19. Had actually never heard of this place so I didn't know what to expect. It was actually pretty good! I had a delicious margarita and the pastor tacos. Everyone else in my 15 ppl party likes their food as well. Definitely will need to return and try a new dish. read more

Love this place when you walk in you are welcomed with a ray of color and since it was cinco de mayo they did not skimp on the decor. We waited for about 35 minutes but they let us know when we walked in so it was understood do to the holiday. The food was so delicious I will come again read more

Food was good for the price point. The customer service at the bar was POOR in my experience Sunday 3/10 at 2:30ish pm. I sat their so others people could have the tables since I was dining for one (me). The 2 bar servers pretty much Ignore you if you are not a regular meaning (frequenters). The young lady continued to chat with a couple about her life , no hi can I help you? and the guy worker eventually gave me a menu and ignored me from that point. Didn't ask if I wanted something to drink , no chips no salsa not even a glass of water so I got up and left the bar to inform you he hostess. (Nope it Wasn't crowded I was the third person at the bar). All the other chairs were empty until another couple came in at sat 4-5 seats down from me and low behold they had Menus and drinks again a set of (regulars). The assistant manager worked diligently to make it right before I exited the building so I decided to stay. I sat at a table and tried the food and I paid full price for my food. *Poor or selected customer service can ruin your bottom line. I'm in the service business and the last thing I would want is for my client to feel ignored and still have to pay me a full commission. The Big Daddy Chimi with Steak was SO DANG good!!!!! Excellent service and food. Good vibe and atmosphere. Very clean and organized. Management was on point! Just took 45 minutes at the Togo station to get a salad, grilled chicken and some chips and queso. Never. Again.

This restaurant was outstanding from the moment we arrived. Very nice and polite staff, wonderful and colorful decor as well as excellent layout of the restaurant... I was taken aback by how much I liked it as the name, I thought, implied it catered to a younger (children's) crowd. We went for an early dinner, so they weren't busy yet but the staff all made sure to say hello and smile as we entered. I can't stand when employees don't greet guests- everyone here seemed happy to be working and glad to have us. The hostess offered Pollo Marisco as her favorite dish when I asked and seated us in a rounded booth. I must say, the attention to detail is appreciated. The booths are labeled to "watch your step" and outside the restaurant, there are placards saying "smoking and vaping was not allowed". (Phrased differently and in a more polite fashion than I just said ) Our waitress Monica was prompt to introduce herself and offer a seasonal margarita! She was outstanding! She knew her products and offered help with the menu, all without being pushy. Shout out to Monica! She even promised the chicken was tender enough to cut with a spoon. She was right- Best. Chicken. Ever. We ordered an enchilada plate and the El Rio combo plate. We'll be back, again, again and again. read more

I used to come here very often, but we stopped for a while when one of the foods gave my father heartburn. We then almost never went here again, till today. Jimmy Changas, changed, in a bad way. We had to pay extra for cheese, they messed up our order, and the sour cream, was bad. The fajita meat was not bad, but definitely not the best, this place does not deserved the 4 stars it has, this place is not a "you get what you pay for." Do not come here if you want authentic Mexican food, it's just another restaurant plagued by expansion. I urge people to stay clear, and go to a cheaper, and better restaurant, close by, called el lasador. read more

Fun place to eat. The atomsphere was very exciting. The food was on time and exceeded expectation in flavor. I had the Marisco Chicken and it was delicious. My wife and I enjoyed the food. The stuffed avocado was delish and the big chimi was very tasty. The setup is well done with two different kinds of chip bath...a smoky salsa and a creamy avocado. Yum! The blanco queso was also delish. The atmosphere is great and the tables are well spaced. It's a FREAKING zoo on Friday's especially after 7:30pm. So be ready for 1+ hour waits, 12-year olds calling no huddle football plays in the kid's play area (you may want to tell your 6 year old to TTFU), being overcharged for drinks at the bar (ok it was a $10 overcharge but wait till I at least get drunk before u start ripping me off), 1 hour wait on fajitas (served up with a half ass apology from the manager) So why do I go there?? it was one of the kids turn for a restaurant pick and the choice is between chuy's and jimmy changas. 1 star for being consistent with the quality of food. The waiter was the hero here with a smile under those conditions and he earned the other 2 stars for them. read more

Nice layout and decor. First thing I noticed was the chips and salsa. Hmm this taste very familiar. After thinking about it for a bit, I said this is just like Gringos, nice can, spaghetti taste to it. I ordered the beef fajitas. The tortillas, the meat it self was just like Gringos. Exactly the same. Maybe Jimmy and Gringos are owned by the same company? Blind taste test, I bet no one could taste the difference. The service was pretty good and the waiter attentive and almost stalkerish in the amount of times he kept passing by and look at us, and our table. I've tried to give this place a chance before posting a review. So I decided to dine here a few times, 5 to be exact. All I can say is each time I've always left saying the same thing oh well, that was "just ok". In my opinion it's equivalent to dinning at Taco Cabana except the prices are higher and you have a server. The food can be best described as being more Tex-Mex and not authentic Mexican in the least. The salsas and dinners I believe, are missing good old fashioned seasoning, they're just kinda meh. The alcoholic drinks are about as good as they are at Taco Cabana... Generally flavorless. The only reason I've kept going is to appease other people who've never been there before. Next time it's suggested I'm definitely putting my foot down and saying no to sub-par food and always making other people happy! Did I just have an epiphany? Dr. Phil would be so proud! read more

My mama was wanting a nice chicken soup, as a good daughter, I should have made one for her BUT...I was kinda lazy...sigh...BUT, she is my most prized possession and wanted nothing more than to make sure she got a nice hot soup. My daughter, who is a foodie, recommended I go here and try their Mexican Chicken Soup, being this is more a Tex Mex place I could not imagine their soup being anything to write home about BUT, we went and WALA...the soup was actually pretty great!! Its pretty loaded, a lot of chicken, and some veggies, tortilla chips, etc,but most of all a great flavor!! ALMOST, as if I had made it myself!! Literally took 15 minutes to get a menu when there was barely any customers, didn't get chips n salsa till our food arrived. The queso looked like it sat under the lights for a good 10 minutes. Not impressed with the food but I did like the margaritas. We ate at the bar. The bar tender ignored us most of the time. Had to flag her down each time we needed something. Also, I noticed that we seem to be the only ones ignored at the bar. It wasn't even that busy at the bar. All she did was wash glasses and talk to her coworkers. We eat out a lot but we've never experienced that at any other restaurant in the area. The other bartender, Nicki, is awesome. She is so friendly with the customers. Man!! I wish I tried this place before today. My girlfriend invited me to join her for lunch at Jimmy Changas. We actually sat outside near the nice outdoor play area for the kiddos. The server was great. The young waitress we had was very attentive and fast. The food was very fresh and had great flavor. I love avocados and they were very generous with it in my fajita chicken salad..I love cucumbers and they had small diced pieces of it as well as corn and crunchy tortilla strips with fresh tomatoes (creamy cilantro ranch dressing was very yummy) and Mexico City chicken soup lunch combo. The soup had a lot of moist flavorful chicken and yummy veggies and rice. It was delicious and cheap only $11. They have free chips and salsa like Chili's.. the green avocado dip was creamy and tasty. Free self served ice cream cones inside the restaurant like at Jason's deli. I will definitely be back to try other items.. oh.. my friend got these huge chicken stuff jalapeño appetizer that was very good. ( I had to try a tiny bite) read more

Food is OK. Margaritas not so good. Ate there today with Husband.....we had large house margaritas @ $11.50 each. I do not mind paying for quality but these are a total rip off. They bring them in the thickest glass to be found and fill it so full of ice you DO NOT get the quantity of a large drink! And the quality is less than average....not sure there was much tequila in them at all. JCs used to be a regular place for us but something has changed. Had margaritas there many times both top shelf and house........don't remember the house being this expensive for such a watered down drink. Service was good!! read more

Excellent food with large portions. They are busy it seems no matter what time of day you go, but they seem to handle the rush well. Our food was hot, made to order and fresh. Oh Jimmy Changas...where kids come to play and moms come to drink :-) This sister restaurant of Gringos has okay food but is really fun for the kids. Their queso is decent. Not spicy and a little thick though. The taquitos are crispy and come with good dipping sauces. My son loves the donkey wings. Their ice tea is good too. I come here to snack and get some chill time. Oh and they have free unlimited soft serve ice cream for the kids. Definitely recommend this place for families and groups. Their service is spot on too. Better than most places actually. read more
