Jimmy Changas is a place that needs to be available all over Texas! This place has soooo much to offer and the service is fantastic! We had a last minute large party lunch and Jimmy Changas accommodated us (20+) in a flash on a Sunday! The interior is polished and easy on the eyes, you can tell they spent a lot of mula on this restaurant! We were quickly seated and served hot tortilla chips with their amazing creamy green salsa and regular salsa. This place is Tex-Mex all the way and the prices are nice on the wallet. I had my first chimichanga here and the rotisserie chicken filling was a dream! The charro beans were my absolute favorite with large chunks of meat and the best broth ever. This place is kid friendly too with a playground and free yummy soft serve ice cream. My food arrived within thirty minutes of arrival, not too bad for the lunch rush... tabbed out in less than an hour. Jimmy Changas is the perfect place to eat with young kids. We're visiting the area for a mini vacation. It's nice to find a quality place to eat and be able to let the kids burn off some energy at the same time. Jimmy Changas has a covered outdoor playground and eating area for the little monkeys. :) The restaurant was packed and a line was forming when we arrived at 5PM on a Friday. Luckily, outside seating is first-come, first-served and there was an available table right next to the play area. We had a seat and quickly had our drink order taken. The kids gave us their order and were off to play just a few feet away. It was nice to be able to enjoy time with my wife, a gentle breeze, and safely keep an eye on the kids at the same time. The waitstaff was excellent. We had at least 4 staff members regularly checking in on us. Our order was quickly taken and the food was at the table within 15 minutes of sitting down. The kids took a break from playing to enjoy the cheese quesadillas. They really liked the queso that comes with it. My wife's chicken quesadillas were made exactly as she requested- meat and cheese only with sour cream on the side. She orders them this way whenever we go out for Tex-Mex, and it seems that at least 50% of the time they come out wrong. I was relieved to see Jimmy Changas get it right the first time. More importantly, she loved them! I always test a new Mexican restaurant by ordering their beef fajita chimichanga. I had to do this at a place named after a chimichanga! Many places only serve a ground beef chimi. There's nothing better than a quality beef fajita chimi, and Jimmy Changas delivers. I really wish we had a place like this back home. It's family-friendly with excellent service (ask for Jose) and great food. I didn't even mention the chips, salsa, avocado ranch dressing, flour tortillas, and soft-serve ice cream. It's all good! We came on a weeknight while on vacation and the place was packed. We sat in the outdoor patio since we had a small child with us. I had the tamales, which were excellent without being spicy and my wife had a tostada that she enjoyed. There was a play yard at the end of the patio for little ones to run around in, so that was helpful. The only negatives were that the service was extremely slow (I think it took at least 45 minutes before the food arrived and we had to ask for utensils.) and the server did not mention that a small soft serve was available at the end of the meal (locals in our party knew about it, though). read more

For a casual Tex-Mex place this place deserves 5 stars....but I am also from SC and we may not have the quality of casual Tex-Mex that folks may be used to in Texas. For me this was the best casual Tex-Mex joint I've been too. 4 if us came in during lunch for a business lunch and the place was fairly busy. We were still seated immediately and nothing took too long. Service was good, nothing amazing but adequate. They chips and salsa were delicious and I could've had another order of queso to myself I liked it so much. My chimichanga was delicious and cooked perfectly. This is no fine dining were they are gonna make you remember the meal for the rest of your life. This is just a casual place to get a good meal at a decent price and they deliver on that. Went to Jimmy Changas with some friends shortly after returning to Texas. Something is wrong with me and I cannot refuse going to eat Tex-Mex... EVAH! When we arrived there was a short wait so we just sat on the benches near the door and waited out turn. When we got to our table the staff promptly brought out the normal Tex-Mex staples... Chip and Salsa. Jimmy Changas offers red and green sauce. BOTH of them are wonderful. This was one of those situations where I couldn't get enough sauce on my chip. I pretty much wanted to tilt the bowl and just pour it on my chips.... but don't worry... I didn't do it. Or did I? After looking over the menu I wanted to try a plate with just about everything on it... so I ordered just that. The name escapes me... but it had the normal Tex-Mex items on it. I have to admit... EVERYTHING tasted great. And they gave me enough food that i had enough left over for lunch the next day. Which was just as good as it was the day before. I've come to find out... not everything heats up well... but Tex-Mex will usually make for a fairly good lunch the next day. I was visiting family in the area but I was a bit early, so I thought I would stop by for some brunch. Now I've been to the Katy location(which set the bar very high in my opinion)and they are awesome. Whether or not this location can meet or beat them was yet to be seen! I got there just before the lunch time rush and I was greeted with a warm smile by the hostess and I was promptly seated at a booth. I already knew what I wanted to order(fish tacos). My server's name was Kylee and we were talking about foods, recipes and standards that both their restaurant and the one in Katy aim for. From what I was hearing it sounded like I was in for some good stuff. She was an amazing waitress! I also asked her if I could buy the Jimmy Changas shirt that says "Live every day like it's Taco Tuesday!" but they were sold out. I was really bummed out about it. The chips n salsa were hot n fresh, both salsas were perfect! It took a lot of will power to not eat the whole bowl because they are so addicting. My tacos were out in no time and everything looked delicious! Nice hefty fillets of fish, perfectly grilled and juicy inside with just the right amount of seasonings. I LOVED the side slices of fresh guacamole and the mango pico de gallo. As I was eating my meal I could see the crowd getting their food very quickly so I could tell this place runs like a well oiled machine that keeps customers happy. I debated whether or not to get their famous coffee but I was already on my way to Catalina Coffee in town so I passed on it. The service and the food was impeccable. I want to say a special Thank you to Russell and Lindi we have a big event coming up on the 8th for a few family members. I can say Russels Heart is amazing very loyal restaurant owner and most importantly extremely caring! We have since started going back to Jimmy Changas after always going to gringos. It has actually been years since we went to Jimmy Changas and now that we are buying a house in Texas city we have one 5 mins away from our new subdivision. After doing a walk through we decided to stop by and eat in Texas City and we feel in love with Jimmy Changas again. The queso is the some of the best queso I've eaten in a long time. Now if I cook at home I make my husband stop and get a large queso for home along with the salsas and green sauce. Since the last month we have been at least 2 times a week. We take our grandchildren to the Pasadena location that's our meeting spot so we can visit and let the kids play. We went yesterday and are actually going back today to meet with my now deceased uncles wife as this was one of there favorite places to eat. In celebration of Nathan we will meet here again today in Pasadena reminiscing old times and enjoy delicious food. One of my favorite eats is the queso stuffed burrito with beef fajita meat add sour cream comes with rice and I get the charro beans! Such flavor. I will say yes they are always packed and the staff are in a bit of a hurry our orders get messed up, but the managers always seem to get it fixed right away. I guess due to the constant flow of patrons coming in and out and being packed tells you something. We have been eating at the Ybarra family restaurants for many years as well will continue to do so. My first time here and I loved it!! The margaritas are amazing and well I always judge a place on their margaritas :) I had a regular margarita with a sangria topper! Yum! My brother and Fianće had the Coronaritas and they were also pleased. The food was also really good. We split the quesadillas and steak fajitas and it was plenty for us. Very tasty! My family and I are big Jimmy Changas fans. We eat here pretty regularly and generally enjoy the food and atmosphere. If you have kids it's an awesome place to eat because they have a great play area. We'll get a table outside and let the girls play until we eat. Most of the time we get good servers, but there's always one, right? They are not the standard, and really, as much as we go there the bad servers don't stick around. I will state outright that they have the BEST rotisserie chicken tacos. My goodness, they are delicious! They come with rice and beans, but the tacos are enough for me. I get those almost every time we go. I will also state that their taco salad is just Ho-hum. It's not very good, even with the rotisserie chicken there was a lot to be desired. The taquitos are very good, too. My daughter likes to switch between this and the quesadilla. Both are good and worth a try. The chips and salsa/green sauce are good, too.
