Love JJ's. This location is clean, the staff run a tight ship. I've been ordering via the app and they don't always get my customization correct. I won't know they missed something until I get home. The young man who took my order granted at me. He mumbled some words that I didn't understand, and I tried to repeat to him what I thought I heard. He mumbled some more. I then repeated my entire order from beginning to end. He didn't seem to be able to process what I was saying. Then when I picked up my sandwiches, the other young man who made my sandwiches was putting three sandwiches in a bag and I asked if he had another bag or a larger bag and he said no, and walked away. These guys almost always mess up my order, and it's not like I can unravel and check to see that I've gotten everything on my sandwich because there's never parking when I come to this location. However, today the employee stopped working on my order to cater to the wants of a family who had only just walked in. I'm really disappointed in the customer service here. This location got an entirely new staff only for them to provide bad service. I picked up a sandwich today and when I got home I realized it was missing parts. The two Latin guys working have made my food before so I thought calling would be helpful before I went back. I called there, explained the situation and was put on hold then promptly hung up on. I tried calling a few times after that but they didn't answer. Disappointed. Every time I order it is a problem. After every problem I say I will never order from again. THIS time I mean it. They needed a picture id. Didn't have it. They took sandwich back, upon my request. They delivered wrong sandwich. Management did not believe me and needed the sandwich back. So, I waited for sandwich, they delivered wrong sandwich. They came by to pick up sandwich to make sure it was wrong sandwich (it was the complete opposite of what I ordered if there could be a complete opposite). I had to wait for correct sandwich. What sounds wrong with this?? They cut bread out when specifically wanting bread in. Does not cut in half when ordered. Once the delivery guy never called. I was sitting by door waiting for him. Never came to the door. Not really sure where the delivery man was. Refund finally appeared on my debit card. I called the restaurant and the manager said the delivery man said I was not there. I was. Forget napkins. I never got those delivered, even when asked in order. Why do you ask us to customize if you do not read the order? Extra mayo requested. Very little on sandwich. Potbelly is an awesome atmosphere, half of the price for a sandwich, best employees. They have faith in their customers. They never got an order wrong for me, but if they did I am sure they would try to keep me happy. Service is bad ,manager Jennifer and her worker name Juan laughed and ridiculed customers when orders were placed. Jennifer boldly yelled im the manager trying to create confrontation in the store and she was the manager on duty that's what she said. Jennifer and Juan laughed and had inside jokes. The front cashier laid his armpits and upper body over the cookies The restaurant was not clean . The toppings for the sandwiches wasn't replenished everything like the lettuce , tomatoes was very little in the buckets. All they did was laugh at customers when they should have been servings the customers. The store outside windows were dirty . The inside prep counters where food is prepared was dirty . Very friendly worker! I don't usually review fast food/quick service places but I had a great experience yesterday at this specific location. Unfortunately I don't remember the young woman's name and I can't find my receipt, but there was a younger girl working there yesterday afternoon who was very friendly and made me feel welcome. I was having a very long morning/day and she welcomed me in, asked how I was doing, complimented me and made me feel overall just much better for the rest of my day. There wasn't anything super special or crazy that happened but I feel like I don't always get a nice welcome and check in when I go to quick service places like Jimmy John's. Horrible service. I ordered on DoorDash at 11:10am. It is 12:30pm and I still haven't gotten my order despite living .5mi away.

No problems with my sandwich but for it to be 6:00 and had only 2 working in there was kinda concerning given its a busy area and most come to grab lunch for the next day or a late snack. The tuna sandwich is really good !! And the bread is so soft and doesn't get soggy with the tuna . The best is the lettuce , it's shredded ! It's light and tasty sandwich ! I want to support local small businesses but I'm extremely unhappy with the disregard for PPE. The cashier had a mask. Young lady preparing food did not and when I asked her if she was supposed to be wearing a mask she said she didn't have one. Do better JJ. Sandwiches are fine... but like few other businesses in Chicago, they empower their employees to rob you. Notice how they ask to see the front and back of your card, and then your I.D.? That's so that the employees can memorize your account number, your 3 digit security code, and your billing address....all well telling you that it's about YOUR safety. Listen up folks. The truth is that even when a business requires I.D. to use a credit card, you can still dispute the charges and win. So they aren't actually protecting anyone, not even themselves... Subway sucks, Jimmy Johns rocks! This location has definitely improved over the past few years, and when they "Freaky Fast, Freaky Good" they mean it! It was not even 10 minutes from placing my order online that this adorable helmet clad Asian dude rings the buzzer. I must say I was shocked! I am so used to this location taking forever, but change is good!!! When I am at my dad's I will definitely keep supporting Jimmy Johns...after all a Slim 6 is MUCH healthier than spending $30+ at other fooderies...and at the fee of the sandwich too! Every time a get a sub to go it's quick in and out. This location has provided the good service I'm accustomed to. The bread and veggies are always fresh and crisp. On an unrelated note, I never knew that a club sandwich does not come with cheese. I recently got the Club Lulu, and when asked if I wanted cheese I went with provolone (a solid, but consistent choice). And then I got surprised on the receipt when the cheese cost was extra. So for all those others that assume cheese is normal, it isn't. Club Tuna does come with cheese, so really it's my bad not reading the menu fully. read more

The sandwiches are good, the service is terrible. We drove past and thought the place was closed because it was so dark inside. Once inside the music was blasting and we were ignored by 2 people. The one in the dirty t. shirt was on the cellphone walking in circles fussing about whatever, ignoring us as we stood at the cash register waiting for help. This went on for several minutes, the other was making a sandwich and never looked up. A third was exiting from the back saying she would be right with us. Cellphone got to us, but never made eye contact, we didnt get any kind of a greeting. Bad attitudes all around, if they didnt want our business or money the goal was accomplished, we wont be back. I know, it's Jimmy John's, and I don't really need to review it because it's just awesome anyhow because the sandwiches are killer and the pickles make my heart pitter-pat. But my experience with JJ's today has led me here. Let's just say it's been nasty, slushy snowy outside today, and I don't have windows in my office so I had no idea how gross it *really* was. So I called up JJ's and ordered my sandwich, pickle, and drinks for a coworker and myself. About a half-hour later here walks in this poor guy, soaked and freezing with my goods. This guy? He'd BIKED to my office on the U of C campus ... in the crappy, cold, gross weather. I guess their car was out of commission and so he's been biking to deliver stuff. That, my friends, is dedication and amazing service. The cups were taped up and bagged tightly so they didn't even spill when they were placed in a backpack slung over his shoulder. This JJ's gets four stars, simply because of that faithful delivery driver. But it's missing a star because A) No napkins and B) No straws. Hat's off to you Hyde Park JJ's! read more

Epic fail - JJ's is one of my favorite weekend and work week lunch spots but the Hyde Park location is just not about customer service. When did it become "corporate" policy to not allow hot peppers on the side? Seems odd since on Monday downtown there was no issue with this or any "corporate" policy. When asked why the only response was policy. I asked what sense does that make if you'll put it ON my sandwich for free, why can't you put it beside it..."corporate" policy. I states they did it Monday downtown to which the response was, they shouldn't. Looks like I'll search for a new weekend lunch spot in Hyde Park. Too bad. It's Jimmy John's; you know what to expect. Simple sandwiches that end up tastier than a glance at the ingredients would suggest, bizarrely wonderful bread, great kettle chips and pickles, and fast service. If you want some dolled-up toasted sub on herbed bread bullshit stick to Quizno's, but Jimmy understands that less is often more, and sticks to nailing down the basics. Protip: get the Bootlegger, Italian Night Club, or Gargantuan, skip the mayo, and instead ask for heavy Dijon and hot peppers. Their hot peppers are very unique and are superb. Only real problem with this location is that their onions can often be overly bitter and harsh, overpowering rather than complimenting. read more

Four Stars. Certainly. The staff here is very friendly. They offered samples of their tuna. It's much better than the Sub-chain tuna - It's packed full of celery and onions very flavorful. The bread was super fresh too and veggies hands down fresh. I'm a fan. And it is worth the extra buck or two... an eight in is easily two meals if you go with chips and a drink. PS... Day old bread is 45cents.... it's worth it. They say it's good for making French Toast. I'll follow up if I ever try it! read more

I cannot help but review this place. I am a big Jimmy Johns fan (yep and nerd) and I have consistently ordered from about 3 different ones. One at an old job and another at my last apt complex. I just moved here and already this one has stood out as the best. They are extremely nice. I swear the food is fresher. I think it's so funny when people complain about freaky fast delivery. It's a cheesy term the company uses and of course should follow but lets be realistic. These kids are on bikes in Chicago. So freaky fast is dialed down slightly to just super fast. Every delivery person has been so nice. So kudos to this store being the best I've experienced in Chicago. read more

Jimmy John's is like Subway, if Subway had less variety but higher quality and cost. Sometimes you just feel like treating yourself and spending that extra dollar on a better sandwich is worth it. Or maybe you just don't like the pressure of specifying every little thing on you sub and are willing to trust the people who designed the Jimmy John's menu to determine what vegetables in what proportions and with what sauces create the perfect combination; these people are professionals, and more often than not make a sandwich much better than the average sandwich dilettante (me included) would order if starting from scratch. You gotta hand it to the marketing gurus at Jimmy Johns, they can indeed advertise. Now to the good stuff... Jimmy John's has some nerve branding their product as "Gourmet Sandwiches", when they aren't even remotely close to that label. The stores are outfitted with black & red paraphanalia (gee, I've never used that word before) - and the staff at the 55th street store in Hyde Park are pretty cool. No real hard knocks against Jimmy John's other than the sandwiches are largely average and the lack of bread selection is unheard of in modern day sandwich shops. The fact that they don't heat sandwiches further plummets their stock value in my book. Verdict: 2 Stars. read more

The sandwiches themselves are nothing to get excited about but for three dollars and change for the slimmed-down varieties, they certainly get the job done. Get two and save one for that all-nighter. But the best part about JJs is its insanely dedicated delivery team. They work for a pittance but will deliver anywhere in Hyde Park, through rain or sleet. I paid 3.80 for a sandwich and the extra delivery charge was 20 cents. No joke. I had them deliver to the Reg. They came. I nearly stained my econ notes with tears of joy.
