Jimmy's Drive-In has really gone downhill. The place was empty, now has slot machines, and feels neglected. I ordered the hamburger special with gyro, a Chicago-style hot dog, and a Pepsi. They charged everything separately - no deal, no cheese on the burger, soggy hot dog missing toppings, and flat pop. The place was also dirty. Sadly, I won't be coming back. read more

Used to come here regularly when I used to work in the area and it was always a consistent spot. From the hot dogs to gyros, big baby(being my favorite thing on the menu, the onions are very flavorful on it) - there is something here for everyone. Prices always seemed fair, although I haven't been here in a year +. Also seemed like the same workers were always there, and the service was always friendly. I've been to Jimmy's years ago and was just ok. I was in a pinch and tried it again and was disgusting. They didn't handle my tray properly and it fell and the Gyro sauce spilled all over the box and drenched the pita, etc... the gyro meat was hard and not fresh. The fries were bland and not even salted or seasoned. Will never be back again. Unfortunately, the staff are careless and don't provide any quality. I called ahead to place my order, ​for their Friday special of fish sandwich and broccoli soup. The soup was hot and tasty. The fish was served on a toasted bun. So far, so good. BUT... When I called in my order, I was asked if I wanted tartar sauce. I replied yes, on the side. Here is where things went sour. Upon checking my receipt, I discovered they had charged an extra 25 cents for the tartar sauce! I had not asked for EXTRA sauce, just wanted to have it on the side. That took off one star from my rating. What was even worse, though, was that my credit card was charged more than my receipt showed. I called to inquire why, expecting it to be some clerical error, and was informed that they charge extra if you use a credit card. I was told there is a sign to that effect by the register, but since I'd placed my order by phone, I had not seen it. I would certainly have paid cash, had I known. And, why does my receipt not SHOW the added upcharge? To me, this is deceptive. That is wht I took another two stars off my review. What a shame, that a neighborhood eatery that serves tasty food would ruin their reputation by nickel and diming customers without warning.​​ read more

Jimmy's Drive In was, and maybe still is, one of my favourite places to eat, and it's one of my safe places, as well (I am Autistic, so it's somewhere I am comfortable and familiar with) - their prices have gone up a little bit and the atmosphere has lessened however the food is still delicious. People that love Jimmy's gyros, have never had a good gyro . I walk into this place 35 min from home , not wanting everything soggy by the time I got home,I tell the guy I want 2 gyros, but wanted everything on the side , plus 1 xtra sauce for each sandwich. THEY CHARGED ME XTRA FOR EVERYTHING ON THE SIDE. Again, 4 sauces they charge me for. Tomato and onion, THEY CHARGE ME FOR. 2 slices of tomato and a 1/4 " of onion, AGAIN JUST SO EVERYONE GETS IT, they charged me for "on the side". Blessing them as I walked out, got home and Holy Cow, this meat is terrible, but most important was the cucumber sauce,,,,, cut with sour cream. You can taste nothing but sour cream. Feta I paid xtra for, plus extra for on the side,,, the size of a dice. This place screams hard up and penny pinching. I sat down to eat...A woman ( wife or girlfriend of owner) stood up and coughed toward me...I asked her to please put her mask on...She then verbly accosted me while I was trying to eat...A hothead with a mean mouth....She just does not get it about the mask.. Oh my goodness. I came back here today and it's been 10 years since being back. I wanted to take my boyfriend there since it was a favorite for me while I was in high school. This adorable little diner is the perfect lunch spot! The food is and always has been so great. We got a grilled ham and cheese (my usual), and he got the steak sandwich with fries. DELISH!! My family loves the food (except skip the italian beef). They are fast and the price is right! I prefer plain hot dog buns to poppy seed that everywhere else in the area gives so that's a plus for me. But the service leaves something to desire. The girl answering the phone had an attitude and left off an entire meal the last time we visited. Luckily, we checked the order in the car and noticed. Had to go back in and wait in line again and then no apology for the mix-up or anything. So I paid for what was left off and waited for it to be made while everything else got cold. i have been ordering the char-chicken sandwich since we moved in close by, within walking distance.Use to be really moist and the bread was fresh.Last couple times the chicken was very dry and bread was hard along the edges.That's the problem with well established eateries. I will always enjoy this place. I grew up eating here, when I was a teenager I'd go after school, as an adult I have turned a few friends onto this place too. Food is usually top quality. Portions are good. Prices are always consistent. Gyros are great. Hot Dogs are great too. Pizza Puff is the normal tasty bite. Chicken on Pita is a good recommendation too. Also good is the Milkshakes. Place is always busy for weekday lunch and great for the whole family. Don't try to eat here if you're on a diet or have special dietary needs though. I often have business in the area and have passed this place many times I also had a 50% off coupon from Entertainment.com, so I decided to stop and grab lunch. So many things went wrong, but I'll just stick to the biggest two. First, the guy at the register, a major douche. I decided to go with their big special - the rib eye steak sandwich with fries for $9.99. I handed him the coupon and $6. He says "it's 6.79" I tell him it can't be. He says tax is not included in the 50% off. I tell him I understand that, but there is no way that there is $1.80 tax on a $9.99 order (before the 50% discount). The order is $4.99 or $5 after discount, then add the tax, which cannot be $1.79 or $1.80 on the original 9.99. It's 3rd grade math. I told him either he entered it wrong on the register, or his register is improperly bumping the tax. He just kept on trying to blow smoke at me in his attempt to explain the 18% tax. And the moron was getting an attitude about it. I was tempted to crack him and drag the hump across the counter. However, the good folks behind me in line started saying "He's right, there is no way in hell a $9.99 order has $1.80 tax." So he just grabbed the $6 and acted like he was doing me a favor. To make matters worse, when the food finally arrived, the steak sandwich was garbage, Fatty, mostly gristle, even small pieces of ground-up bone. No flavor whatsoever. The fries were already cold. I've had much better sandwiches at SteaknShake. Top to bottom, this place is a rip-off and a garbage dump. Take your hard-earned money elsewhere. read more

The father and his sons have been running the show forever ! They've had the same employees for years ! Every time I come here they still remember me! Their food is fresh and always on point! Jimmy's drive-in is a clean establishment with lots of seating serving classic Chicago Style Food. On their menu are burgers, gyros, and hot dogs. When visiting Jimmy's I opted to try the Hot dog, upon receiving my dog I noticed it had a regular non-poppy seed bun. The hot dog sausage itself was a skinless hot dog, the signage indicated this was likely a Red Hot Chicago branded dog. The hot dog itself was fairly tasty though not necessarily great, I didn't detect the presence of any celery salt on the hot dog, and as mentioned while it wasn't a poppy seed bun, the bun included was definitely steamed and was soft. The pickle on the hot dog was cut a bit too thick, the sport peppers were just the right flavor, the relish had a bit of a sour taste to it and the onions were diced and complimented the hot dog fairly well. This was an average Chicago hot dog at best. I also received fries with my order and they were a crinkle variety, they weren't too salty, had a nice crisp outside and a nice potato flavor on the inside. Based on my visit Jimmy's drive in is an okay establishment, I'd recommend visiting if you happen to be in the area, the seating is nice, the place is clean and they have a wide menu. It was also fairly inexpensive with a hot dog at less than 2.00 and a hot dog and fries for around 2.25. Overall for the money, Jimmy's isn't a bad place to stop. read more

Was craving a chicken sandwich and saw this place - stopped in to get takeout and check this place out. The building is newish and clean, lots of parking. There were 4-5 guys behind the counter - two were noshing on some food while working, which was a bit gross, but everyone has to eat and maybe they don't get time while working?? My order was to go: Patty Melt, Jimmy's Chicken sandwich on pita, cheese fries, mozz sticks. The sandwiches were good, with the chicken being the better of the two. The pita was really fresh and the chicken was super flavorful. The patty melt bread was really mushy - from too much grease. The fries were overcooked - to a darkish brown. The mozz sticks were cooked too long - so that the cheese oozed out to the outside, and the stick was an empty shell. I ordered a cheese dog, cheeseburger, and a strawberry shake. The hotdog bun didn't seem fresh, it was hard on one side and the hotdog itself could have been hotter. The fries were very generic and the shake wasn't mixed all the way on the bottom half. The burger had onions in the burger patty, which was a negative for me since I don't like onions. Some minor changes could make this place fantastic. Steam the buns or have fresh buns. Get better fries or make your own. And lastly serve shakes with real ice cream and not soft serve. Jimmy's is the spot. It has been the spot and will always be the spot. I have been coming here since I was little and they still had the large awning over the parking lot. I no longer live in Illinois so the craving is intense and I come here before even making it home when I am in town. I walk in and go through the usual conflict - Do I get the Chicken on Pita, a wet beef, a hot dog special? On this last visit, I went with the Chicken on Pita and gravy bread. The food is notoriously cheap but the quality doesn't suffer. I also love that the same people have been taking my order here since day one. Please don't change! read more
