OMG, I just finished the Pork Chop plate with cabbage, beets and hushpuppies. It was delivered to work by Grub Hub and it was the best porkchop plate, hands down, that I have had in years. The only thing I didn't eat was the bones and I cleaned those. Keep up the great work. I ate it so fast I didn't take a picture. Not sure why they don't have a 5 rating!! Their seating can be limited during their lunch rush, but they try to accommodate all guest, including take out diners. Service is quick, friendly, and attentative! Their portion sizes are huge and you will not leave with a hungry belly. This is a local joint and it's nice to see the friendliness of the people inside. They know some their customers by name. The staff is very friendly and polite which is nice to see. The two stars is for the quality of food. It's about as fake/synthetic as you can get. Very typical diner. I'm sure if they revamped their menu and got more real items on the menu to serve the quality would improve. I don't even think it was Heinz ketchup on the table, who knows what's in that stuff. I go quite frequently. I've only tried breakfast and that's been pretty good. Service is impeccable every single time! They know their customers by name and it's usually the same ones everyday! This review is the result of several bad visits since they reopened after the COVID shutdown. Grill 46 used to seem like a great place. Now, it's clear that their political leanings are influencing their customer service. They cook and handle people's food with no masks, even though we are still under a mask mandate. And when they make a mistake, they don't even bother to offer to make it right, if you aren't white. I spent 2 minutes in the phone trying to make sure they understood that I wanted link sausage, not the little links. I even said "red sausage link; that you use in your breakfast sandwiches" and the included pic is what they gave me. When I called back to tell them they had given me the wrong kind of sausage (in a breakfast of eggs, grits sausage and toast that cost me $10), I was told "You should have asked for a red hot; that has nothing to do with sausage." Well what the heck is a red hot if it's not a sausage link 'cause it darn sure ain't bacon! They've gotten my money for the last time and I'll make sure that every teacher I know up the road from them (which provides a lot of business) knows how terrible their service has become. read more

Cute little local joint where the staff knows most of the customers located in the Food Lion strip mall. Even though we were first time visitors, we were given a warm welcome. The food is inexpensive diner style and comes out quickly, so they must have a good short order cook. We had a twofer from AARP, so it was even cheaper. Nice. I had a couple of hot dogs (the red kind) with onions, chili and slaw that was pretty darn good. The chili and slaw was homemade and tasty. There's lots of sides to choose from and I got the housemade chips which were crisp and not overfried. My dining partner had a typical two egg breakfast with bacon and hash browns. She thought is was just okay especially since the hash browns were kind of mushy, not crispy. We'll come back again, coupon in hand, and give it another try. read more

I've been meaning to try this palce for a while, what a disappointment! I ordered the "hamburger steak". And the description as "steak" is a far cry from the reality. It was nothing more than one of those frozen hamburger patties that are 1/16 of an inch thick that you can buy 25 to a box for $10.00. It was burnt black and crusty on the outside and raw in the middle. The gravy was cold. The only thing edible on my plate was the fried okra. Needless to say, I will not be going back! read more

Very friendly people here. They make you feel like family every time you walk in the door. Food is delicious if you like southern breakfasts especially liver pudding. I've been to this place three times in the last two days and have yet to be disappointed. I came yesterday for breakfast and it was so good that I decided to come back for lunch. It also was nothing short of delicious. This is coming from a former chef. I rarely eat out but Grill 46 may change that. Oh, the horror! I don't know who to blame: Grill 46, or Grub Hub. The food would have been decent if it had been delivered timely. After waiting over an hour and a half (I'm keeping the robo-texts to prove it) I received cold, soggy food with restaurant tissue paper glued to my congealed hash browns. Spend your money elsewhere? That would be a resounding "YES". As much as I believe in supporting local restaurants (and it is TOTALLY my favorite thing to do), I think that perhaps the eatery should reconsider its packaging options. The styrofoam clamshell containers don't play nicely with breakfast foods, especially bread. If the container has to travel any real distance, the bread absorbs the vast majority of the condensation inside the plate, and you end up with bread pudding. In their defense, I will say Grub Hub's delivery driver bears a great deal of the flak for taking 45 minutes to make a 23 minute drive from the restaurant to my house. GH is not off the hook by any means. I would probably not reorder delivery from this establishment now that I found out the Waffle House finally offers delivery. I would, however do a grab n' go if I worked or lived closer by. Definitely some room for improvement; I see a lot of potential for these guys to be one of Durham's premier diners. read more

Been here a few times as it is close to my house, typical diner food. Burgers, chicken and breakfast, not bad. On my most recent visit I placed a call ahead order. A champions burger and a cheesesteak. They said it'd be ready in about 20 minutes. 23 minutes later I arrived, I said I am here for a pick up a champions burger and a cheesesteak. The cashier advised me they did not do a champions burger, that is from an old version of the menu and asked me what I would like on my burger. I asked if food was prepared, he said no, but we'll make it. I said that's ok we'd go elsewhere. The employee was perfectly polite, but I will not patronize a business that takes an order it cannot complete, then has nothing ready when I arrive at designated pick up time. read more

The other day I was feeling a tad hungry and I saw Grill 46. I figured I would go in and get a good burger and fries as take out. I got the 1/2 pound burger with chili, slaw, mayo, ketchup, lettuce, and bacon. I also got a side of fries. All for about $9. When I got home, I was sorely disappointed. It seemed as though they went next door to Food Lion and got all of the ingredients. The fries were completely unsalted. The burger was ok. If you want to spend $9 on a burger and fries then go to Cook Out or Five Guys. Don't waste your time here. Also, the sanitation rating was 95.5. read more

My wife and I decided to try this restaturant because we were new to the area and wanted a regular place to go for breakfast and lunch. I read the reviews beforehand and went in feeling assured of a great experience. When we arrived, the server, Nancy was phenomenal. The restaurant was clean and inviting. I had a pork chop sandwich and immediately realized I had a problem. After the first bite, the meat tasted musky. It was the kind of musk you would sometimes smell with fresh game. I only ate about 30% of the meal and I told the owner's daughter as I checked out. She said that there was nothing they could do because all of the other custmers liked it. She offered a 10% discount. I asked her if she was willing to lose a regular customer because they wouldn't own what was wong. She said, "I'm sorry" and that was it. I refused the 10% (90 cents) and left never to return My wife and I eat out 6-8 times a week and Grill 46 would have seen us at least 3 times per week had we walked away satusfied. Not gonna happen! I've eaten here several times. Food is exactly what you would expect if they only had a flat top (full disclosure: not sure what they cook on). Burgers were OK. Eggs were OK (so long as you don't ask for over-medium). Chicken was OK. Hash browns were a huge let down. The staff was super attentive and polite, and the restaurant seemed clean. It's really a diner more than a grill. Coffee has been excellent every time I've been! I am a Celiac (an autoimmune disease that makes me allergic to gluten) and went to Grill 46. The staff was pretty confused about what gluten intolerance is, and what was in their ingredients, so they didn't have much info (or choice) for me. I appreciated though that they admitted they weren't sure, instead of just telling me it'd be fine and letting me get sick. I ended up eating a giant hamburger patty with mushrooms. I'm from a place that has these types of family-owned, home-cooked restaurants on every corner. After having moved to this area, it's sometimes hard to find a gem like this. The food was exactly what I was expecting- quick, no frills, and completely fatty (that's a good thing)! Don't get a salad or wrap here, get the classic burger, dogs, or one of the southern style specials and unbutton those pants, because you'll definitely need more room. We finished our meal off with the banana pudding and I could have kissed the person who made it.
