My go to spot for a real CHICAGO hot dog and polish the fires are of the charts really good because they use really potatoes and get not for get about the pink lemonade it's really really good overall best combo and the amount of fries they give highly recommend you guys checking it out won't disappoint

Ok, so check this out. I love food. I will travel for food. No burger too close and no burrito too far. Sometimes it's delicious and sometimes it's a bust. But that's just part of the adventure. Let's dig in. I've been to Chicago more times than my own grandmother's house (mostly because she's dead). Everytime I go, I look for new places to eat. This trip, I decided to bring my brother-in-law so he could experience Chicago the way I experience Chicago. Overstuffed and stumbling with a belly full of food. The first place we stopped was here. And honestly, the sole purpose of this stop was because I have never experienced a true Chicago style hotdog. I pulled up to this place with zero expectations. Luckily parking was a breeze as they're were plenty of open spots in the parking lot and in front of the building. We did get here about a half hour after it opened, so that might have had something to do with it. The inside was not what I expected. No seating, but a long standing counter against the windows. I could already tell I was getting ready to experience true Chicagoan cuisine. Ambiance 10/10 There's no menu to pick up and look at or scan. There were pictures and prices on the wall, but I'll be honest, I wasn't sure if that was pure decoration or the actual menu. Luckily, I just knew what I wanted and approached the counter with all of the confidence of someone from out of town ordering a hotdog. "I'd like a Chicago dog and a medium RC" were my exact words. "Everything on it?" Were his exact words. "Yep." Verbatim. From me. Now, disclaimer: At this moment I realized I had no idea what comes on a Chicago dog. And honestly, still now, three days later, I still don't. Couple minutes later, a paper bag and styrofoam cup were waiting for me on the counter. Service was quick and to the point. Utilizing the standing counter, I opened my bag like a kid at Christmas. They wrap their dogs in wax paper together with their fries and I'm here for it. The dog looked amazing. Squishy bun, mustard, onion, and sports peppers. This was going to be an experience. The dog was fantastic. Great flavor. Loved the crunch of the peppers as well as the heat they gave. The one thing, and I don't know if it's because of the style of dog they used, but it was not very girthy. However, the pure flavor of the whole thing was enough to overshadow the thickness of the tube meat. Tastiness of The Dog™ 10/10 The fries were just the icing on the cake. Nice and thick. They had that soggy fry flavor that when done right, makes the whole meal. I ate them without ketchup because they are HEAVILY against ketchup. And that was ok, they were still as delicious. Thicc Fries 11/10. It was a filling meal. About $15 and worth it. When I come back I'm going to be torn between eating here again and finding another Chicago dog place. Returnability 10/10. Sorry, Jimmy's - now I know why you have signs plastered of having no refunds or exchanges, because there is no accountability put on your staff members who choose to not have their active listening skills on, resulting in inaccurate orders. You literally have 5 options of toppings (relish, onions, mustard, hot peppers, and onions) - not sure how remembering any customization requests is so difficult? Also, whoever is on hot dog duty needs to get a timer or something - there has been some inconsistencies. In addition, the fries are inconsistently served piping hot. Note that you will run into some 'extra' individuals - the line usually moves along quickly, which also provides more room for mistakes on their part. Plenty of parking in their lot - just watch out for the potholes. No dice, Jimmy's. +no accountability +inaccuracies & inconsistencies +cash only

Stopped by for a hot dog. It was ok. Depression style dog, and fries. Dog was fine, one big pepper. Fries were a little bit soggy. I've had worse, but they weren't "good fries". If this was your local spot, I could see coming back, but for a city full of different hot dog places, I'm glad I went, but would probably go somewhere else next time.

This is a must eat when I'm back home in Chicago! I grew up on Jimmy's! The dogs are perfect, with all of the typical Chicago dog toppings: mustard, peppers, sweet relish.l and the fries! Do NOT ask for ketchup! They will insult you lol. Very important: CASH ONLY! Great prices. Yummy food.

My parents used to bring me here growing up in Chicago. Now I bring my children here. Food is ALWAYS hot!! Customer service is what it is. Being from Chicago you better be decisive in what you want lol! Just don't ask for ketchup. It's a Chicago dog! What do you expect? Lol! Nothing special about the look of the place. A Chicago staple built for the local First time to this city, so I had to pay homage to the Original. As a hot dog guy, had to see what the beginning were. So made the trek to try them out. It's not a looker from the outside. The age of the community shows, and it's very much a random hot dog shack in the middle of a blue-collar business district. The staff is gruff but only because they are dealing in extreme amounts of volume. They are built to deliver food quickly, and the staff are very much "in the zone" when they are on shift. Got a red hot and a tamale to try. Food came out very rapidly and incredibly hot. The Red Hot was not what we anticipated. The hot dog was very much a hot dog and the red hot element was a red pepper laid alongside the dog. the toppings were plentiful and the hot dog was a little small compared to the bun and toppings. the flavor was there though, and it was pretty good for what it was The tamale was interesting. the masa was flavored but was pastier than I am use to. I usually prefer my tamale to have a little bit more grit to it, and for the beef to have a different texture to the masa. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't to my taste. the meal was cheap, and the quality was pretty good for what you got. This isn't gourmet eats, it's very much basic fare done cheap and quick. For the people, this is a great spot to go to. For the adventurous foodie, I compare it to the steamed hamburger. There's history there, and to some it can be appealing. It's great to try once, but it's not going to be a staple for the out-of-towners.

--Location/Parking-- Located on the westside of Chicago, the area looks like there are plenty of parking for at least 10-12 cars. Bus stops on both sides of the street. Busy intersection, I went during the day, but at night I guess this is not the safest area. The location is not near any metro stops, but there are two bus stops I can see on the street corners. --Ambience-- Old school hot dog stand. There are no seats, just a long counter on one side of the room and a large windowless area to order and pick up your food. There does not look like an area you order or pick up your food, just look at any of the employees and they will help you. The interior is a triangular hallway to order food and pick up your food. On the wall behind the counter were two vintage signs showing a couple of items on the menu. I didn't look at the menu before coming to the place. I wish I did because they had more to offer then what I expected. --Service/Staff-- Staff is very blunt, but friendly. On a Sunday late afternoon there were 6 or 7 employees behind the counter, over half look like they were in high school or just graduated. The employees did correct me on the menu ordering. --Food/Products-- I ordered two original hot dogs with everything. It consists of a regular size hot dog with chopped onions and mustard served with NO ketchup which they are known for and had two jalapeno pepper on top. I wish they removed the stem edge of the jalapeno peppers, but that didn't interfere with the taste. On top of it which I think was a side, I was not expecting French fries to be served on top. The fries were very salty, which I pushed off to the side just to eat the hot dog. The original hot dog was overwhelmed by the jalapeno peppers, which was disappointing, because I love peppers, but I don't remember tasting any of the sausage at all. --Capacity-- Plenty of space in the triangular hallway. I can see this as a late-night food joint for a quick hot dog or tamale choice. The interior can hold 20 or 30 people, maybe 15 people on the counter on the opposite side of the room. --Overall-- If I lived in Chicago and I owned a car, I might come back to try out their other items on the menu. The big question is if you don't mind not have ketchup on your hot dog and being replaced with jalapeno peppers. I might give it another go around, but the trip to the location, which is not near the L train makes it a difficult spot to visit.

Hey Yelpers, I'be been having a taste for some good Hot Dogs. I was thinking of starting a Hot Dog tour of the city. Anywho me & the Mrs slid over to Jimmy's Red Hots. A classic hot dog staple in Chicago. They only sell Hot Dogs, Polish, Fries & beverages. We ordered 2 Hot Dogs, Polish & 2 RC Colas. A handsome total of $21 even! Now I know their isn't really anything special about a hot dog but it's something about getting a hot dog at a stand makes them taste different. The dogs and Polish comes with fresh cut fries. The condiments are Mustard, relish, hot pepper & chopped onions (straight Chicago style. If not a Chicago dog) they hit the spot! The condiments play well together with the flavorful dogs & sausage. Nothing special just comforting good! A solid 8/10 for the Hot Dogs 7.8/10 for the polish. 7/10 for the fries. 9/10 for the service. Great food for cheap. Hot Spot #1...... where else should I go for a good Hot Dog? Please suggest. (Remember all reviews are subjective)

The worst grease fast food that I have ever had, they are purely lying about the menu on their food. They telling people they have a Polish sausages, but it's coming out of a Vienna store brought package of sausages that you can get at your local grocery store. They is truly lying and they need to be reported to the city of Chicago. Just the worst food I wouldn't give that to my parents. read more

I've been coming here since I was a little kid and I can never get enough of the fries. I can go through about 4 servings of just them alone. Jimmy's been a staple to the Humboldt park area since the early fifties and has been offering up some good old fashioned Chicago hot dogs,, polishes, and even tamales and hey, don't knock them til you try them. They're not your typical tamales, but one rather tasty vision of a tamale. Some advice for anyone looking to venture out to Jimmy's. Rule 1. Never be on your phone in line. If you are talking you will be skipped period. Rule 2. Everything means, onions, mustard, relish, and hot peppers. So make sure you tell them what you want. Rule 4. Cash only (Old school) Rule 5. This is the most important rule. NEVER ASK FOR KETCHUP. I still have not been around when someone has asked, but I don't want to be around when it happens. If you can abide by these simple rules, you'll enjoy a true Chicago style hot dog. Enjoy! read more

It was an honor to finally check this place out. I learned these are Depression Style Hotdogs from Brandon's review. I love that it is the original location. I love the no nonsense yet helpful attitude of the staff. I love that parking is a non issue. I love the hotdogs and fries the most. I scarfed them down in minutes. Definitely worth the trip here to give it a try! read more

We had hot dogs delivered so Im factoring that in with the taste... probably better eating within the first 10 min fresh. Just wasn't impressed with the dog itself...small and didnt have a snap. Lacked flavor and mainly tasted bun each bite. Fries were good and served generously. read more

Jimmy's is the quintessential Chicago hotdog stand. Great natural casing hotdogs, fresh cut fries, no ketchup and no frills. I have been going here for most of my life and it's always the same, although the prices have risen slightly over that time. It's attraction is that is the same as it always has been, and it's simplicity is what makes it one of the best around. There is not much space to eat inside, but the lot is always full of people eating in their cars. On most days there is line out the door, but the line moves fast because if you know what you want once you get up there beware. Don't ask for ketchup and have cash in hand. They do not take cards. It's not fancy, buts it's good. read more

Finally able to stop by this fabled Chicago institution. It's been rumored to be here since dinosaurs roamed the earth (almost). Looks like it too. Caution to all of those who have an interest in visiting this venue. It's not exactly in the well-tended garden part of town. Just be aware of your surroundings. Similar sketchy stuff going on in the parking lot too. I'm from Oakland so I am well versed on this sort. Trust me on this one. Their dog with fries is a gritty no-holds-barred guilty pleasure. Greasy hot doggity goodness with semi-soggy overly salted fries smothering the poor dog suffocating at the bottom of this creation. Funny story: Behind me in line was the local CTA bus driver who stopped her bus at the stop directly in front of the venue, and was getting rather animated b/c ppl in line were taking too long. The bus driver waiting to get a Jimmy's fix while on her route. WOW! Free entertainment while standing in line. Precious. The experience is great for a late-night drinking binge food fix. If you've been drinking anywhere around Jimmy's close enough to get your late night food fix from them, you've got some other issues at play here......just sayin'. The dog here is just 'meh'. Sorry. Not sorry. Too many other hot dogs in Chicago to spend time waiting in line for something this unremarkable. Maybe I hit them on an off night (it was 4pm BTW). I wanted to like their product, I really did. read more

Ordered to go for delivery despite multiple reviews which mention the same thing. Ordered a beef polish dog and it comes with a side of fries already. Food arrived pretty quickly. However, food was half cold, and they package the dog with the fries so it's pretty squished together. Maybe some different packaging would help. Hot dog and fries itself seemed to lacking flavor. Would MAYBE give them another go if I ordered onsite so I'd be able to check my food before leaving. read more

Was not there to scope service and ambiance. So I can not rate either of those. BUT! I can see why they are saying this is the best hot dog in the city! Cause it is. So good! I thought Gene and Jude's was the best dog in the city until yesterday. Everything was to perfection. Their fries are unbelievably good! Definitely a must try for those who have not. read more

It's been 20 years since I been here and they are still just as good as they where back then. I still can't understand how can they make a hot dog taste so good. If you are looking for something fancy you are in the wrong place this is a no frills hot dog stand. But worth coming down to Pulaski and Grand. If you come to Chicago this is a must stop and don't forget to order a tamale. Don't even think about asking for ketchup on your hot dog. read more

Best Polish's is in the world and their fries are everything. They're not very nice in there. And a little bit on the racist side. If you can get pass, the funky attitude, the food is great. So is there a lemonade. Not the cleanest place it's a hole in the wall so don't expect it to be all clean and fancy. read more

When in the area of Grand Avenue & Pulaski Road, Jimmy's is the place to be. Neighborhood is a little rough around the edges, but it was that same when I was a kid. Remember they only take cash and no Ketchup!!! ATM available if you have no coin. Ordered Hot Dog with Everything On comes with Fries ordered a tamale as well. Just as good as I remembered last time stopping by. Always a favorite and price point is good! Cheers! read more

I had Vienna hot sog before and tuis was not it. They reminded me of ballpark hot dogs. Hell, the ipt dog was soo little, the relish and onions took majority of the space on the bu up But it's fast and convenient but they need to take that advertising of Vienna beef cause that would be considered false advertising. read more

Three stars, A-OK, means I like this place and try to stop by when I'm in the area. I like the dogs with mustard and onions, and maybe one sport pepper, and I dig the fries. I have to wonder about some of the reviews. People love this place or hate it. The dogs are great, the dogs are too small. The fries are old, the fries are hot and fresh. If you're a suburbanite searching for the perfect "garden on a bun Chicago Style hot dog" and an immaculate eat-in area Jimmy's isn't for you. Hey, I'd like that too but realize that isn't the case. I'd like to see larger hot dogs myself, not just at Jimmy's but across the city. One last thing...f**k you all with that goofy ketchup rule. If you're going to give me the dog for free then put whatever you want on it. If I have to pay, and that's always the case, put what I want on it. Now, I don't use ketchup on anything, but I think this is one dumb-ass rule. At least offer packets. And help us stop being accosted by beggars. read more

For what it is it was everything expected, if you want a quick bite to eat something good and feeling then this is your place, they give you plenty of fried on the side and nice meaty hot dogs and polish. ONLY THIS IS THEY DONT HAVE KETCHUP!!! read more

Food is average! I use to go here as a kid with my dad and uncles but things have changed! The service is classless, unprofessional, and raunchy. People in that community really need to stop giving this establishment their money. They honestly do not care about the community and treat their customers with no respect. Lastly the shorter lady with blonde hair and tattoos was the worst and if that's who the establishment leaves as a manager on duty it's a poor choice and bad look for business. I would never allow anyone with that attitude and character to lead a business. As mush as I use to enjoy a jimmy's hotdog I'm not going to set foot in there again...Thank you read more

Service isn't good and for being a restaurant im surprised there's no line organization and I didn't see cooks wearing masks or gloves when we're in the middle of a pandemic... This place has too much pride for it's hot dogs. Not worth the visit. I recommend Maxwell's instead or just go make them on your grill, nothing too special read more

The real Chicago dawg deal. I was a little confused as to where to order and where to pay, because much like Pat's King of Steaks in Philly, I felt like I was going to be yelled at for ordering wrong! The signs with NO KETCHUP "Never Ever" are humorous, but also daunting. Two lines, No Waiting! Need some Nag Champa with your Hot Dog Chompa? A man had set up shop near the windowsill for all your jewelry and incense needs! I asked what all came on the red hots, and it's a Chicago Style Dog minus the neon green relish, basically. Two, please! Don't bother ordering fries, because each dog comes with a heaping order of freshly cut (but slightly wilty) fries. Two red hots w/everything and fries- $5 even! My only "beef" with Jimmy's Red Hots is there's no seating, so you have to enjoy it in your car or take it home, like I did. The fries were still hot when I got home. Chicago, creator of the Hot Dog, So eat it right! I've been going to Jimmy's since I was a kid and then a bag of french fries were 34 cents! Just up the block from my old house, there's no other place to get your red hot from when in Chicago. They are the epitome of the Chicago dog. Dissatisfied, Dissapointed Customers!! We came in to this local after a 45 min drive from the suburbs to the city only to receive extremely RUDE services from a tall thin Caucasian male with a southern accent. As soon as he saw my African American friend and myself being Mexican he gave us the dirtiest look accompanied by the rudest possible customer service, If can call it customer Service. Also, the female working next to him rolled her eyes at us as my friend repeated our order three times as he would not understand or comprehend No onions on 1 and Raw Onions on the other two Polish Sausages. With each time we had to correct his order he became more verbally aggressive!!! Needless to say we walked out with NO Food due to the terribly inept, uneducated, unethical, unfriendly customer service. My friend said just forget the order since he was being so extremely aggressively rude and the female next to him whom was rolling her eyes told Us very loud and Sarcastically, "Have A Good Day " as she looked towards the door. These employees Need to learn the meaning of Customer Services. If they or he was having a bad day or personal issues that is no excuse to treat paying customers with such a disgusting demeanor!!! Never Again will we go back to that location!!!!! I'll prefer to drive even farther into the city to their other location than to allow any person to verbally mistreat us this way!!! P.S. This is coming from people who also are in the Food Customer Service Industry. To Jimmy Sr. and his son running the joint now and all the rest of the employees still there after 30+ years. THANK YOU FOR STILL BEING THERE AFTER ALL THESE YEARS! My dad brought me for the first time in 1966, I think I just got some teeth and he held me like a Stanley Cup so I can watch Jimmy in action serving some of the best dogs and fries....AND NOTHING HAS CHANGED! I grew up not too far away and went to Cameron Elementary School. Throughout my childhood and teens I ate a Jimmy's several times a week. In fact my FIRST trip when I got my license was you know where! We used to park across the street in front of their storage building. Where do I start? It's been about 40 years since I been here, I was a child living down the street and my family and I use to frequent this place. On today I went in placed my order and Mike walked over to take the payment. He was a "beige" skin man with an ignorant "niggerish" attitude. I didn't appreciate his sarcasm, if fact I didn't know what he was talking about. There's a time and place for everything, but when you're working with customers you should be courteous and professional. You catch more bees with honey. If Mike can talk down to me and be so insulting to a paying customer, I can only imagine how he treats other customers. To the public.... Why are you making Jimmy's so rich, building his mansion in Franklin Park? He has everything he has because of his customers. The polish was ok, but the customer service....an "F". I will never go back again, shady business. I was left with negative vibes and I had to share with everyone. Stop making these racist men rich, they could care less about you or the community, but they are definitely going to take your hard earn cash, and mistreat you. This place is ridiculous, and I mean is a good way. Shady neighborhood, bags from other restaurants (I think they're mis-prints or over-runs) and some of the best hot dogs around. I would have to say my top 3 hot dog stands right now are (and not sure on the order): Gene & Jude's (I think they really innovated a lot of it) Jimmy's Delicious Redd's (Lake Zurich of all places, newest and may have the best fries) I'm sick of people that need tomato and celery salt. Those are newcomers to the Chicago hotdog, and I think really unnecessary. Just walk into a place and order one with everything, see what you get. They don't want to do tomato, that's their choice. It's not Burger King (although they use their bags :). read more

If you wanna support racists then go ahead and shop here, there's this blonde girl there made life impossible for some vendor trying to make a dollar. The poor guy was no where near Jimmys and they felt threatened by this little vendor selling his tacos and might I add they where good tacos. You want real Chicago style dogs go to Odges Hot Dogs on Damen and Superior they are the best and they'll give you a free hot dog with fries when you buy 3 or more. Screw this place my money goes to non-racist aholes if I could give this place no stars I would. read more

Yeah, three stars that is all i can see in this place. It's got that ghetto joint feel, like a dump, you know. Food is average, maybe fries are a little bit better than most of the places like that but other than that nothing special. Service is crude and rude. You get that give us the money and get the .... out feel but simple treatment for simple folk, I guess. The only good thing I can think of is that their food is much better than the famous Superdawg on Milwaukee, which I think is a total ripoff. SD. read more

Been coming here since I was a wee lad. Still the best hot dog joint in the area. It looks rough, it's in a rough neighborhood, but by God are the dogs delicious here. Fast, clean, totally unhealthy but damn delicious. You can't go wrong with anything off their menu but I keep it simple- a dog with everything. Make it 3. Because 1 won't fill you up, 2 will hit the spot just right but leave you craving for more, and 3, well, 3 will put you in an amazing food coma. You won't regret it. read more

One of the very best dog spot's in the Chicago, Jimmy's Red Hots is a real Chicago dog spot unlike many other places you find. Steemed buns are awesome. on the downside they are in a pretty crappy area. So watch your purse and wallet while grabbing a bite to eat. Real original and classic hot dog stand I wish them many more years in business. read more

Omg so good. I'm born and raised in Chicago, and I have tried all the hot dog spots. Made a point to try any that pop up on a list of top hot dogs or one that is recommended by a friend. This is my favorite in the city and only one other spot is even close to as good in my opinion, but it's outside the city. Can't wait to go back! read more

The best thing over there is Polish sausage, comes with fries. I usually get two lately though I try to eat just one. The place is nothing more than a hot dog stand. Nowhere to sit, service is fast, food good and cheap, can get addictive after a while. Overall 4 stars, the only thing bad about it crappy neighborhood. Jim. read more
