I had read about how Fatso's does the char dog. I made this my last meal in Chicago. I went with a char dog, depression style, an order of fries, and a side of the Merkts cheddar. How was it? Fries- Delicious! Fresh cut fries, made right in front of you. They were great! Huge portion, too! Merkts Cheddar Sauce- Hell yeah! Give me a gallon of this, and I will chug it! Such a tasty cheese sauce. Loved dipping my fries in it. Great combo! Char Dog- This dog was delicious! Great char, great toppings. My only beef would be the bun. It definitely could have been more soft/steamed and fresh. It held up pretty well, but there were a couple bites where it broke and flaked apart. Hate when that happens. What happened to Fatsos? At one point this was the best burger in the area. Last 2 times I went I was disappointed. The burger was bland did not have the same char flavor. Maybe they changed out the grill. Not sure. Average at best. Fries still great service great. Small place but that was the charm. Can't recommend this place. Also ordered the Italian beef and will give them a pass because I guess it is a pretty new item on the menu. It didn't have much flavor and was pretty dry (I didn't order it dry). My 2nd visit to Chicago and I finally got a Chicago style hotdog. I enjoyed my hotdog and all its toppings that made it Chicago style. The hotdog was nicely charred and had a snap as I took a bite. Service was good and well the ambience is what you would expect of a hotdog joint. They have seating inside and out. Went here last week. Wanted to try out the food for a long time . Decided to order the cheeseburger_ no single burger _ don't know why. Had to get double cheeseburger. Pressing down on the burger to take a bite, caused the cheese to explode all over. Realized it wasn't cheese_ but fake ass cheddar flavored cheese whiz ! Disgusting ! Burgers were expensive_ at least put real cheese on them, instead of that disgusting crap. Had to throw away the food_ so gross! What a waste of time and money . Since these folks do not steam their hot dog, they grill it, it is going to taste a tad different. It still works amazingly well, and this one had all the trimmings to make this hot dog special. Love the little way they make the endings all cute. Prices are a tad on the high side but they serve alcoholic milkshakes! I thought about ordering one but figured to back off. Top tier Chicago dog experience. High quality dog with all the fixin's. The authentic Chicago way. This was our first stop when we got into the city. Been on my list for years & I'm glad we finally got come give it a shot. Fries are good--remind me of five guys, & they give you a ton. My wife & I split one order of them & didn't finish. The grilled bun makes it hold together and eat easier but tasting experience was argued in group if better than steamed or worse. Also these are Char dogs. Normally I argue order of dog starts best with charcoal for char grill, propane grill, griddle, NY dirty water, deep fried, steamed, boiled, then microwaved... but with the dragged through garden Chicago style 2 of 3 argue the steamed elsewhere is better match to all the other flavors. The toppings great, nice and heavy on celery salt (2 of 3 preference), and the heavy poppy seeds was great. Best looking dog! And if Char dog your gig, this is the place! read more

You can get a single to save money. I just looked at the combo price and at $15.75 it seems high. Depends on how much beef you get. I'm dropping a star for value. The 'Samuel's Double Fatso Extreme' is a good deal with Bacon and an Egg added to the Double with cheese. Burgers served with a grilled onion, lettuce and tomato. Fries and a drink for the special. The wait time for the burger was longer than I'd have liked, especially for being the only current order. I guess that is a non-cost price for fresh cooked food. The outdoor seating area was a nice vibe. The two downsides that lost a star would be the cheese sauce which was too thick and not very tasty, and that the soda machine was over carbonated making it too foamy. Driving by here, you would never know they have the best fried shrimp that was ever made on this planet. The spicy cocktail sauce is an absolute perfect accompaniment to the fried shrimp. It's a sizable shrimp with the crispiest coating. Pair it with their onion rings and you can't beat it. You can call in to order for pick-up, but to note that their menu/pricing on the website is different than in-store so seems like they need some updating. Each dish had an increase of $1-3 (from what I assumed was the pandemic increase). Double burger - Cooked medium was decent. Patties were not super juicy and the burger was just missing something in general. Hot dog - the weiner was very small, half the size of the bun, so the ratio was really off. My burger wasn't done all the way in the middle so I ate around that, the cheese was a little too salty (never thought I would say that but I've never had merkts cheddar before) and they only gave me 3 pieces of onion. Yes it was goey and cheese oozed everywhere (including my jogging suit) so that's true but It wasn't tasty...I wanted to go back in and complain but I only had a middle part of a burger left. A consistently delicious burger if you're concerned about the sauce, get it on the side. And do not pass out the delicious french fries with the Merks cheddar on the side, again dip it as you want them to be slathered in this delicious cheddar sauce.. They have some good special deals for a double fatso with a drink and a fry. That's actually reasonable to consider. If those are the things you're looking to fill up on and have a complete meal.. For the little ones, there was a junior fatso a single paddy. Tonight I opted for the first time for the chart broiled chicken sandwich . And damn I gotta remind myself to get this again.
