When in Rome, right? I was told by a local to not go to a chain restaurant for a Chicago hot dog. Locals support local here and I see why. The Chicago dog was not basic dog at all. It had plenty of toppings, most noticeable was the famous relish. I don't know how to explain it but there was an explosion of flavor in each bite. It's not something that can be easily replicated. Must be portions of the topping to dog. Definitely a must try. Also tried the burger just for a comparison or the experience. It was a pretty good size. Interesting flavor but not as much wow factor as the hot dog. Fries weren't anything special to me. On the soggy side which I know some people prefer. Standing room only inside. You're surrounded by others eating or waiting. Counter of condiments available to help yourself. Do not expect fine dining but expect good food.
I stand by my initial review of the devil dawg but I wanted to provide an update. The owner contacted me because my review of the devil dawg was not stellar and she offered to refund my order. Above anything else I can certainly appreciate the customer care. When I return to Chicago I'll be sure to have the Devil Dawg on Rush Street as a must go spot. I'll at least know this spot aims to please its patrons. Thank you Dena and I look forward to an opportunity to try the devil dawg again.
Glad to finally lay hands on a Chicago style vegan dog. The bread was super soft, vegan dog was amazingly juicy and packed 20g protein. The Chicago style toppings were mega tart and acidic, with the relish being tart too, I enjoyed it, but thought it was a little too one dimensional. Definitely worth trying once, when in Chicago. Service was quick, you order up front in tablets. Everything's Togo with tables up outside for you to sit down and eat your togos.
This was a nice spot to grab a quick lunch! They were very busy, but seemed to move quickly. The service was good- but not necessarily outstanding, but that could have been due to the large crowd. The person behind the counter disappeared for a bit and the bags of food started piling up in the window- because of that, my fries weren't as hot as I would have liked, but they were still very good! The slider was filling and so delicious!
The food was good, service was good, and quick. They have a small dining area outside the restaurant if you want to eat it there. I appreciate that although they were closing soon after I came in, they didn't rush me, I told them it was my first time there, and they were pleasant and patient while I reviewed the menu, and made my choices. I'll definitely swing by again I live in California but plan to visit again next summer.

My friend was visiting from San Francisco and she wanted to try a Chicago dog so I took her to Devil Dawgs. Devil Dawgs makes the best Chicago dog I've ever had! So fresh and flavorful. She is pescatarian so it was awesome that she was able to get a veggie dog Chicago style. She also had the Icelandic Dawg which she said was very good as well. My Chicago dog came out very fast but her veggie dog took about 10 minutes. I love how the location is close to magnificent mile so it was easy to grab the dogs then go back to shopping. If you need to take someone to get a Chicago dog I highly recommend Devil Dawgs!
We know that Chicago is all about their pizza, popcorn and dogs and this was our stop for a good hotdog. The place is super small, but they have outside seating for you to enjoy. It's very crowded because everyone's waiting for their order. The guy at the register was super awesome and helpful and took your time with every single customer. I made it worth it. The food was amazing. You can tell that this establishment definitely paired their food with the right flavors to enhance the experience. The milkshake was more on the concrete mixer side but still really pleasant on a hot day. If you haven't had a Chicago dog come on in and try this one.
I ordered the 5-piece chicken strips with fries, a side of cheese sauce, and the devil sauce -- and wow, this hit exactly how I needed it to. The chicken strips were perfectly crispy on the outside and super juicy on the inside. You can tell they're made fresh -- not dry at all, just tender and flavorful with that golden crunch in every bite. The fries were just as good -- hot, crispy, and the perfect base for that cheese sauce. Speaking of the cheese... so smooth and rich, it honestly made the whole meal even better. And the devil sauce?? SO good. It has that perfect balance of heat and flavor -- not overwhelming, but definitely gives a little kick that keeps you going back for more. Everything together was just one of those simple but so satisfying meals. Perfect portions, great flavor, and exactly what you want when you're craving comfort food. Definitely would order this again -- no question.

A little more onions next time pls. Also tried the chicago dog: crisp, juicy, crunchy, sour and the celery salt makes it! Like the relatively small size dogs so you can get multiple different ones to try different flavor combinations.
While a classic Chicago dog is an essential eating experience, I gotta hand it to Devil Dawgs for elevating that experience by making the all beef hot dog a spicy one instead. That coupled with the many additional varieties in flavor in toppings may have changed the way I'm currently thinking about hot dogs. The outdoor seating was great, some counter space for a quick bite inside but that was mostly crowded by the long line of people pushing in to avoid the cold. Very enjoyable and quick experience.

Recommended by a friend who is a local. Came around 12:30 on Wednesday early June. Ordered right away, not too busy. Was able to get a seat outside. I can see this place getting really busy, very popular. Ordered the Chicago dog, first time trying. It was amazing! Loved all the toppings. If you're really hungry order two. Fries were ok, wish I would have gotten the tater tots. Great place to come after walking along Michigan Av. and/ or visiting Hancock tower. read more

Food is served quickly, Clerk is friendly and takes your order quick. Casual ambiance. Wanted to try out Chicago Style, too me it tastes like any regular hotdog. I didn't order fries. I ordered the Hank beverage vanilla root beer. read more

When in Chicago--having a hot dog seems fitting. I had the chili dog and it didn't disappoint! The menu has something for everyone, even vegan hot dogs. The interior has a ledge for eating while standing and there are a few tables outside too. Service was quick and I enjoyed my meal. read more

While traveling to Chicago I knew I had to try a hotdog, saw this place and decided to try it, I order a bacon sausage hotdog with mustard, when I first came in the shop was very small and it was packed so I knew it was going to be good, the staff was super nice and told me their most popular items. All my friend order something different and all were delicious. I was impressed when I saw they had a veggie hotdog, we have a pescatarian friend so she was so happy she could also join. The place was super clean, I will say there is limited sitting since it's a small establishment but overall it was a quick spot for us so we did not mind, I will be coming back if in Chicago!!! Fresh cut fries will forever catch my attention and these were perfect! Fries were fresh, Chicago Dog was good, but not the best. You order at a kiosk and wait for your number to be called. There's no inside dining, but you can eat outside on the patio if you can find a spot. Would definitely return for other items. The chicken tenders seemed popular as well. In a city of hot dogs and burgers , Devil Dawgs stands alone ,most stands offer basically the same Chicago style dogs , DD offers unique ingredients like Hatch Green Chiles , or Corn and Cotija Cheese , It doesn't stop there , The Burgers like the Elvis Slider has Peanut Butter on top , They also Boast 15 different shake options , so good , I've been to other locations but I feel this one is the best, Staff is the extremely friendly and they get the food out really quick , It's a smaller spot and kept very clean inside for such a busy area , another Chicago gem read more

If you're walking on michigan ave and you've done some shopping make sure to make a slight turn and hit this little spot at the corner. Location is small but mighty Inside is colorful and vibrant. A small standing table is available to eat inside (we did because it was freezing ). pricing was good and options better. Everyone working were super nice and attentive. read more

Door dashed these hot dogs for a late afternoon lunch and was NOT disappointed. Chili cheese dogs. Amazing. Chicago style dog. Delicious. Green chile dog. Phenomenal. We ordered sliders too but haven't eaten them yet... still full from the hot dogs. If this is how Chicago hot dogs are supposed to taste...the Chicago style ones I've had in Houston are missing the mark. read more

I'm not usually the biggest fan of Chicago style dogs, I prefer a Coney Island style dog. But when in Rome, I had to try their signature dog! I stopped the to grab a dog at this unassuming take out restaurant. Pretty divy and simple menu with just the classics. Service was quick and friendly. Hot dog was ready in about 5 minutes. I took it back to my hotel to eat. Hot dog was fantastic, loaded with all the traditional toppings. Hot dog had a nice snappy casing. Bun was soft. Definitely one of the better hot dogs I've had in Chicago. Can't wait to return! read more
Interesting concept of the Chicago hot dog, but it's just not for me. To preface, I really don't eat pickles. But, to experience Chicago, I ordered one and tried it. It wasn't too bad, but the pickle was bigger than the hot dog. The flavor was alright. This is more of a super quick bite than some place to sit and really enjoy. The waiting space is small and the seating is limited outside. I think my whole experience here was about 5 minutes of waiting and 1.5 minutes of eating. Then I headed out. Awesome food and great restaurant. The ambiance was good, it's pretty simple for a grab and go. The food took a little bit but it wasn't super long and the food was definitely worth the wait. I got the one with green chile and spice and it was great. Can't wait to go again on my next Chicago visit and try the other dogs or Italian beef read more

Very solid hot dogs, location is great and prices are reasonable considering the Gold Coast address. Highly recommended- I like it even more than Portillos. Please get all the topics if you can handle spicy, lots of neat flavors packed in each bite. Pickles and relish are a must. You have to add your own ketchup/mustard as those toppings are not customary. read more

I went for the Big Chicago Dog and wow it really hits the spot! The staff behind the counter is awesome, working fast and keeping the energy up. Came here on a Friday evening. Ordered online and that was a great idea because the restaurant was packed by the time we got there. We were able to get a table outside. There are a few high chair seats inside, but tough when it's crowded. Got a Chicago dog, a Maxwell Street Polish, and a strawberry Oreo milkshake. First time trying either type of hotdog. The Chicago had a lot of sour/tangy elements. The peppers on the polish were spicier than I thought they would be. The hotdogs were great, had a nice snap to the casing and good flavor. I personally liked the smaller Chicago Dog better cuz it was easier to eat and the ratio of the hot dog to bread was perfect. But both were great and I'd recommend. While the food was tasty - it was a bit cold and items fell apart making it challenging to eat. Definitely a good to stop to compare against other hot dog joints. I was craving a Chicago dog and this was convenient to our subway stop. This is a pretty cool spot with a massive menu. They had some high top seating along the window but most customers were taking their food to go. The line was short and I was enjoying my food within 5-10 minutes. They had no problem making a plain dog with ketchup for my 3 year old either. The Chicago dog was exactly what I needed and it was delicious. The bun did fall apart pretty fast but that was my only complaint. It was a true authentic and traditional Chicago dog. They also had a great drink selection in the cooler and he gave me a colder one from behind the counter. We will definitely come back again. read more

I love my Chicago dog and every time I am back in town I get my fill of it. Always liked Devil Dawgs and the place never disappoints. I always end up at the Gold Coast location and it just feels right. Nothing fancy about the place. Walk in and order on the kiosk and wait. You can eat on their patio tables or dine inside at the window bar top and enjoy the AC. The Chicago dog with everything on it is the best way to enjoy a a hot dog and nothing comes close to it. If you are around the mag mile, come down to Devil Dawgs and grab two.....otherwise you may end up in line for a second one after you down the first one! read more
