My husband and I are somewhat new to Newago, and have found this spot to be one of our favorites. Their menu offers such a wide variety of food and their service is great. My only complaint is that a quarter of their menu is Mexican Cuisine (which I love), but their "guacamole" is the nasty canned stuff, in which they charge you extra for. Yikes. I really wanted to like this place but the only thing I liked was the speed of service. My MIL, my toddler and I all went for lunch on a Sunday. The food was not good. I got the taco salad and she got the olive burger with sweet potato fries. Sweet potato fries were way over done and very black. My salad was primarily a mound of shreds of iceberg lettuce with a scoop of taco meat and some tomatoes and green peppers. No guacamole or sour cream as promised. We went to Jimmy's Roadhouse on the recommendation of a friend, and were very happy with the food and service. The staff opened up an area that was supposed to be closed just to accommodate us. While it wasn't completely clear as to why they weren't, they had gone to the trouble to highlight the exception of "medically unable to wear a mask" on the governors orders taped outside their restaurant. I would on a normal day give this 4-5 stars. Today I would rate them -1 for food and service. I ordered 2 chicken salads, 2 burgers and the Spinach artichoke dip (which comes with tortillas any other day). They said 30 minutes. Arrived 45 minutes later and waited for another 25 minutes. Here's what I took home: 2 burgers that were very cold, 2 chicken salads (the chicken wasn't warm) and spinach artichoke dip (so cold that the cheese wasn't melted) and no tortilla chips. I called to complain to them rather than leave a negative review online. I was told I could come back for the chips or get a discount some other time. When I said I was calling to let them know they needed to double check their orders the employee's response was, "Well we are really busy. We are one of the only restaurants open right now" I said, "I know, but you still need to check your orders." That must have not been what she wanted to hear because she hung up on me. Typically I love their food and they have great service. Very poor right now. If you're considering pick up through this covid shut down period, consider ordering elsewhere. read more

We were pleasantly surprised! Our server, Jewel, was very pleasant & helpful making menu choices. We started with an order of onion rings - . My partner gave his meal 5 stars. He had the 10 oz sizzler with loaded baked potato. They were out of perch but substituted walleye (lightly breaded), which I give a 4. It was very good (& more than I could eat), but not gourmet. We were at Jimmy's Roadhouse on a Saturday night about three weeks ago around 6 PM it was not that busy we were seated at a table for 10 people we didn't end up needing the whole table we had seven people from the time we got there the service was very slow we had to keep going up to the bar to get our drinks the server was very nice but she was missing a lot and it was not that busy so after a while of doing this we decided we just move up to the bar because we've always gotten good service at the bar. So we moved up to the bar and we were going to cash out our tabs at the bar and tip the server even though the service wasn't that good she was very nice we were going to take care of her while we're all moving up to the bar one of the other employees named Ashley shouted across the bar that was really nice of you guys to waste two hours of her time, and take up space in her section. I could not believe what I was hearing that a staff member would talk to customers that way she wasn't even the one that was waiting on us and she also did not have any idea what was going on and that we all were going to pay our tabs and tip the waitress but we're going to move up to the bar because the service was so terrible we had to get up and go get our own drinks several times. I simply can't believe that that type of service is tolerated by the owner that a staff member can shout across the bar at customers basically chastising us that we wasted the servers time when she didn't even know what the situation was and why we were moving and again we weren't gonna walk out on our tabs we were simply going to pay them and tip her and just be done with that table and sit at the bar I cannot believe that that kind of rude behavior is tolerated from staff there. I complain to the manager and saw the manager talking to the server that shouted across the bar after that the server every time she came up to the bar to get drinks for her tables was continually looking at us and basically had an attitude the worst part is it was all for nothing she didn't know what was going on she didn't know what the story was and she got involved in the situation that had nothing to do with her. read more

Seated immediately. Very friendly waitress-crystal. Good service. Beer came quickly and was ice cold. Atmosphere is kind of old school bar but has lots of windows. I ordered the chicken burrito with guacamole. Guacamole is nothing special - traded it in for sour cream. My husband ordered the French dip with chips. He didn't like his- too salty and not enough meat. Loved the burrito- sauce was really good. Three beers, burrito and French dip- spent 30 dollars. We will come back. read more

Have not been here in a while and was looking forward to eating here which we did and the food was good but none of the wait staff was wearing a mask. When I asked the hostess why no one was wearing a mask she replied "well I have a medical condition but I don't know why nobody else is." I told her that we would not return because of that. Maybe it's a Newaygo County thing because we went to The Shack and no one there was wearing a mask either so we checked out. I am local, so I go to Jimmy's quite often. I order the burrito bandito every time I go because it's amazing. I like it much better than the burritos at the local Mexican restaurants. I have to get the half because the portion size is huge. Great quality and value. read more

My husband and I came here when we were on vacation. It looked like a pretty cool place to grab a bite. I really loved the rustic decor. It was lunch time and not super packed but it was busy. The service was excellent. They only had one server so the bartender would come over and help her which was awesome. I also enjoyed the food. Jimmy's is one of my favorite go to places. The owner Jim is constantly updating the decor and structure. The service is great and so is the food. this place has been terrible on three occasions now and we will no longer be eating here. first time we got take out one of the meals was missing all the sides, we called three times and were told that a manager would get back with us and they never did! second time we ordered the "special" prime rib and it was definitely the worst prime rib we have ever had anywhere, it looked boiled and was very bland, was very expensive and we couldn't even eat it. Third time (yes we went again) the waitress was extremely rude, after telling us their system was down so they couldn't use cards, she told us we would have to use the ATM in their establishment and pay them cash. we then asked if they could waive some money on the bill considering the fee's associated with the ATM and she flat out said "it is not our fault that our stuff is down" I explained it is not our fault either, and asked if we could talk to a manager. the waitress went back and got the manager riled up who then came to our table with an attitude saying the same thing. I finally said well we will not be leaving a tip then because as a business when they are not providing a way to pay with card (as most people do not carry cash) they should take the initiative and take some money off people's bills. finally the owner Mr. Cory came out and was the worst of them all also stating this is not our fault so we will not be adjusting your bill, he then said we could come back in "good faith" and pay later when their machine was up, when he had walked up our food had just arrived, we were so disturbed by them and the waitress continuing to walk by running her mouth that we did not even eat their less than par food. left there intending to come back and pay after going to Northern trails to eat dinner. the owner Mr. Cory shows up there and yells accosted the whole restaurant "here is your bill you forgot to pay" mind you he already told us we could come back later to pay it. embarrassing us and himself. he put another copy of the bill on our table and said "if you don't come back and pay I will call the cops and get you for a dine and dash". I looked at my fiancé and said we better box up this food from northern trails and head there, i read terrible things about him on Facebook during covid and he is probably calling the cops now. we leave and get back to Jimmy's roadhouse to pay him and the police were already there. long story short, this establishment is run by a lunitic that can't even remember what he says from one second to the next. and fyi the cops did nothing to us as we did nothing wrong and I am sure they are aware of his behavior. read more

On our way home from a weekend up north, we were looking for a good place for a nice sit down dinner. We checked Google and Jimmy's Roadhouse was rated in the Top 10 places to eat in Newago. From the description, it sounded like a Logan's or Roadhouse steak restaurant. It was nothing like either of those places. And if this is in the top 10, I would hate to see the other places! There was a ball game on the whole time we were there and apparently quite a few local people were there and it was horrendously noisy - I'm talking foul language, loud yelling, hooting, cheering etc - so much so that it gave me an immediate headache. There were very few people in the restaurant (should have been our first clue) and their menu was very misleading. I ordered the cheese and buttered mushrooms expecting a cheese sauce over mushrooms but they were actually tiny mushrooms deep friend with what I was told was cheese coating inside (not that I could see or taste tho). My husband ordered a french dip, which he said had no taste and was tough but he ate it without complaining because he was hungry. I ordered a taco salad with extra meat - which was great until I mixed it up half way thru and tasted re-fried beans - no place on the menu did it state re-fried beans. After I had double checked the menu and complained, the manager came over *she knew something was wrong because she was the person I had asked for the menu to double check. I was told it was to hold the "bowl" onto the plate. I love taco salads and have ordered them all over and have NEVER seen re-fried beans in one to "hold it to the plate". So 2 of the 3 items we ordered were misrepresented on the menu and all 3 items were terrible. You can't misrepresent the food on your menu - people have food allergies, etc. You need to have accurate descriptions of the food you serve on your menu! I had already eaten half of my Taco Salad when I discovered the re-fried beans and to their credit - they did take my meal off the menu and gave us a 5.00 coupon for our next visit - but since the whole experience was terrible, that coupon is worthless because there won't be a next visit.
