Good drink menu for my purposes. My party enjoyed the chicken wrap, bean burger, veggie burger and chicken wings. The wings came out over cooked, but the replacement came out prefect. Gythnth (Gwen) provided excellent service. The food came out hot, including the fries! This my dear reader is unfortunately a rarity. This is not sophisticated dining establishment. Food and drinks at the Gypsy are usually quite good! We often sit at the bar and... sometimes... the service is a little slow. The place has, on occasion, been loud and chaotic during the dinner hour. I don't think it's the best choice for parents with small children. Having said that, if you're not in a hurry and you want a good meal, eat at the Gypsy Nickel. read more

Went here for a concert at the soaring eagle. Very inexpensive and that might be due to the area. We only had about an hour to eat for a table of five and the food came out very fast as well as the service being good. I tried two cocktails which were a rum runner and (can't remember the other one) but both were very yummy. My burger was really good as well as the crab Rangoon egg rolls, those were my first time trying something like this and unfortunately, I could literally eat them all day. I won't be back anytime soon unless I'm going to the soaring eagle but I would love to go back. read more

First time here and it was a lot of fun! We came here mid-day to visit with my niece who moved nearby. The weather was great and we sat on the back porch. While waiting for her to arrive, we enjoyed watching folks go down the river on tubes. I decided to order the Fat Noodle Soup as it sounded incredible. I'm a huge fan of ginger so anything with ginger broth is a slam dunk with me. It was a huge bowl of soup and I savored every drop. I had also ordered a side salad with grilled chicken as I thought I would need something to round out my meal. I wound up just eating the chicken and left the lettuce as I was pretty full after all the soup! Hubby ordered a burger with sweet potato fries and really enjoyed it. We rolled up on a Sunday at 11:30, so pretty vacant. But found that all was good inside. They have a large porch that can seat quite a few groups - nice to overlook the Muskegon. I was pleased to discover the mimosa/Bloody Mary special. And everyone enjoyed their food, which included Mac n cheese, chicken sandwich, bourbon burger and veggie burger. Of note were the onion petals. Tasty & so much easier to eat than rings. Service was great too. read more

I was traveling from Petoskey Michigan back home to St Joseph, a four hour drive, and decided "I want a burger". Thanks to Yelp , I was directed to this little place beside a Big Rapid. A great selection of burgers, I went for the Bleu Burger. It was awesome. My measure is taste the burger, with no toppings first. If it's seasoned well, the whole burger will be good. We were traveling home from Traverse City and needed to stop somewhere to eat and were hoping we could also have a beer or cocktail. We were thankful for finding Gypsy Nickel on Yelp. It was a beautiful day so we were able to enjoy a table outside on the patio with a view of the river. Our waiter was so friendly and kind. My friend had the boneless wings and he said they were really good and I'm was especially impressed that there were so many in the order! All of the kids shared the mozzarella sticks and they loved them. I had a Big Nickel Burger which was a double cheeseburger with pickles, lettuce & special sauce. They cooked the burger perfectly. It was smashed thin, just how I love them and crispy on the outside. It was served with beer batter fries that were hot and crispy. Perfection. My husband and friend both had Fish Tacos. Each taco had one full fried lake perch filet on it with fresh pico and were served with a side of chili mayo to put on them and a side of chips and salsa. They lightly grilled the flour tortillas and I think that made the perfect touch. The kids in our group ordered chicken tenders and fries, mac & cheese and fries and a cheeseburger. All of the kids meals come with a cookie for dessert and 2 sides! We were very impressed and will certainly be coming back in the future. I'm not sure what the issue is with the staff here, but I give you my personal promise to never patronize these pr*cks again!! I travel abroad and have seen some very interesting people and things. But words will never describe what I observed at this establishment. We quietly watched a group of young ladies (attempting to) celebrate a 22nd birthday recently. I do not condone underage drinking or obnoxious pubic overindulgence. These young ladies definitely were not intoxicated at all, and the staff refused to serve them. They were polite and more respectful than I would have been!! Apparently working as wait staff entitles you to also to make determination on whether or not you have a fake identification or not. I think there was most likely an alternative reason, for the discriminatory practices. I guess we can get into those possibilities. But for now they accused them of having fake ids. If they were fake I would have been happy to see them being denied ,and totally justified. So some time goes by and these people called the police because their expertise in fake identities compelled them to try and make it a really memorable fake birthday. The police determined that the ids were not fake. Then they decided they still weren't going to make the situation better and bring some drinks out. Shame on you guys for violating their 4th amendment rights and not making it better. Starters, first round on the house!! Also manager 50% off the bill, maybe a gift card or some free appetizers. But after close to 40 mins these gals got up and decided to go somewhere else. The police are kinda obligated to investigate once an accusation is made like that!! But if I was a sergeant, I'd also expect some free appetizers or drinks next time I'm in for having me participating in their bull! I understand that liquor licenses aren't free and they can be the most lucrative part of owning a restaurant. But we all know they are legally required to check identification not determine the validity. So what ,why not just say hey we reserve the right to service. Kick them out and don't waste taxpayer resources, 911 services, the poor girls time and as well as your own time. So I believe that the slander/defamation in order to achieve having these young women's rights violated was more personal. Maybe jealousy, maybe racism, maybe those girls patronized them before and left an unacceptable tip. One of these girls had a darker complexion. I would definitely requested a complaint number if I were her, and taken that to a lawyer. But how embarrassing! I'm embarrassed for you guys at the Gypsy nickel! Some people should never have power over anyone or anything!!! On our experience outside of witnessing their crap, my meat on my burger smelled a little musty. Needless to say my stomach felt like a birthday celebration that was ruined with racism/akwardness/civil rights violations!!! read more

Went here for lunch with coworkers. Reason only 4 stars is that the black painted walls makes it feel dirty and not enough waitresses to handle the lunch crowd. One waitress for 10 tables with 60 people poor planning. Burger was fantastic, fresh well cooked, fries are crispy and the onion pedals yummy. The crab spring rolls not good too much cream cheese. What a nice place, sitting on the river in Big Rapids...tucked away from all traffic and noise...a respite. Three of us rode our Harleys in for dinner on a Friday night. I absolutely love the Gypsy! The outdoor seating in the summer, on the river, is SO cute. They have an amazing drink/shot menu and a unique food menu as well. I always get the buffalo chicken spring rolls, mac&cheese or sweet potato fries with their amazing garlic aioli. Glad that The Gypsy Nickel was open when we moved our son back to school! They were well prepared for social distancing inside and had seating available outside as well. The combination platter of spring rolls did NOT disappoint. Unsure? The Cordon Bleu and Rangoon was my favorite (not to say the Buffalo Chicken was bad). The boys all had chicken tenders, which looked perfectly cooked--crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside. The hubs got the garlic parmesean sauce with his and quite possibly was house made. Lots of garlic, delicious, and did not taste like it came from some prepackaged bottle.
