Cute spot near the downtown and art market was nearby... it just took sooooo long. Maybe it was just really busy because it's the weekend in the summer. We have been to the Early Owl several times since it opened last year and this is the first time we were disappointed. We arrived at noon on Saturday 8/17, we had 50 minutes for brunch before my Mr had an appointment. Surely we could sit and eat in 50 minutes! The bar had plenty of open seats - only 2 were occupied. There were several open tables and they were not on a wait. We were greeted by Eden the bartender and she got us water and took our drink and food orders. This was at 12:05. I ordered a Bloody Mary and he ordered a mimosa flight. Eden did let us know she had a bunch of drink tickets she needed to attend to so our drinks would be a couple minutes. No big deal - I appreciate the head's up. His flight was ready first as they were out of their house made bloody mix. I got my Bloody Mary at 12:35. It was a delicious Bloody Mary though! Our food arrived at 1:03, almost an hour after ordering. I wouldn't be as annoyed if the food was fresh and hot. But it was not. It was barely warm and had clearly been sitting under a heat lamp. Mr had to leave before his food arrived and I ate 2 bites before asking for a box. I can tell it will be good when it's hot. I'll warm it up at home. I'm sure we will go back. We have been several times with no issues. Looking around the restaurant I could tell we were not the only annoyed patrons. Sincerely hoping this is an isolated incident, I would hate to see them close. read more

Waited literally an hour for food that was okay. My friend only ordered a fruit cup and some toast and they brought her this disgusting fruit cup (warm fruit) & forgot her toast? Never had a bad meal here and I love that they serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner all day long (the only place in Muskegon that does). My favorite menu items are the farmers burrito, French toast, smoked meatloaf, and 5 cheese Tortellini Pasta. They also have an amazing ambience and three different dining areas including their inside dining room, patio, and rooftop. Service is friendly and the aprons that the wait staff wears are so cute. The server spent more time telling us how short-staffed they were and about her life than making sure our order was correct. My scrambled eggs, literally, looked like they were scraps from someone else's plate. It was supposed to be two eggs, but it looked like half an egg. I will never go back to this establishment. Had the mixed berry and BLT Dutch babies and shared both. They were fine. The pesto and bacon is what makes the BLT better. The berry one was kind of like a berry soup with a pancake under it. The 3.5 star rating almost kept us away but we needed a breakfast spot and this is across from the rink. So glad we gave it a try. Everyone agreed that their food was delicious! It did take a bit of time for our food to come out but our waitress kept our drinks full and checked on us frequently. The inside is very cute and clean. Service needs improvement. If u seat people upstairs u should have capability to serve them in less than 1.5 hours for eggs oatmeal and pancakes- none was worth the wait. Stopped in for a late breakfast to break from the Black Friday grind. Had the big classic breakfast: two eggs your way, American fries, choice of meat, and choice of toast. That's $12. I did bacon and sourdough toast (ask for jam!). I also added a pancake for $3. All was solid brekkie diner fare. Pancake was golden brown, fluffy, and sweet. Coffee creamer seemed to be presweetened--might have been condensed milk; it had that consistency. Full bar available, too. Found easy street parking. I'd go back! read more

If you have the opportunity to come here, do it! This was my 3rd visit over the course of a few months and each time the food is fantastic. Everything from a traditional breakfast to the Carnitas Benny to soup & salad for lunch... as well as bringing real sweetened cream with the coffee... all have been perfect! Plenty of comfy seating, spacious and stylish interior and lots of patio seating during the summer. The only reason I took away one star was because service was not great during my most recent visit. After receiving our food, our server took forever to come back. We waited and waited for our bill... killed some time by taking separate trips to the bathroom... and still waited. She was having conversation with a friend at the bar and seemed to have lost track of time with her tables. Overall, though, this place is a GREAT addition to downtown Muskegon. Cooked perfectly, the onions are a nice addition to the dish Queso was OK. Not spicy at all. Homemade chips was a nice touch. Drinks: Bloody Mary was very spicy. Margarita was perfect. Dinner: the catch of the day was walleye. I really enjoyed this dinner. I substituted the truffle fries for the rice. They are soooo good. It's a little on the fancy side for me when it comes to breakfast, but overall pretty good! The inside is well designed and spacious and the location is great. I personally got "The Big Classic" and it was alright but it's clear a traditional simple breakfast isn't the focus here. My wife got the "Bourbon Peach Dutch Baby" and it looked amazing, I can say the same of similar dishes I saw around me. Food came out quick, service was friendly. No complaints there, for a new restaurant they're doing great with all that. Ultimately I'd say if you're looking for a more simple breakfast it isn't the spot for you, but if you're look for something unique and fancy it's an excellent choice. My friend made 10 am reservations for a larger group. We arrived a little before 10 am and noticed every single table was full, so that was concerning. They were not prepared, so we weren't seated until 10:40 am. You could tell staff were overwhelmed, but our server was very kind. He took drink orders and brought them out promptly. I had a mimosa flight and it was so good! He came by shortly after to take our food orders. The poor food runner was also clearly new because he didn't know what table was what when bringing food out. Our food came and everything was delicious. My husband, son, and I shared a cinnamon roll. It was good. Probably not shareable, but we all wanted to try it. Gooey in the middle and the perfect amount of icing. My son had the French toast and it was a massive portion. He loved it. My husband had the chorizo burrito and devoured it. I had the corned beef bowl and it was phenomenal. You can clearly tell it is homemade and is not from the can corned beef. Wellllllllllllll..... My friend and I came here because it seems like this newer spot is all the rage. It was brunch time on a Saturday, and we were given a lunch menu. My friend and I are both gluten sensitive, and were trying for gluten free that day. Out the whole menu, front and back the only things we saw "GF" on were 2 salads. The lunch menu says it's served 9am-9pm, so I asked our server about breakfast/breakfast menu in case there were more GF items available there and he said they stop serving breakfast at 1pm - just barely missed it. I explained our GF issue. So we ended up leaving to go elsewhere. We told the hostess on the way out that we were leaving, and why and she apologized. The staff seemed nice, the place was very busy, but we didn't actually have a wait to be seated. I'm really shocked that a new place opening doesn't have a bigger selection of Gluten Free items with it being so popular and more commonly an issue for people these days. Maybe some day when I'm okay with feeling like crap for the rest of the day I'll go back. (btw, I did look up the breakfast menu online and the only items that were marked GF were side of meat, and side of fruit). Not great. read more

We know it's new, otherwise it would be zero stars. Half the menu isn't even available yet. But, we love local so my wife, adult daughter and mother in law went for brunch today. 2/3 of the meals were decent. One was terrible and the server was pleasant but not very fast. My almost 90 year old mother in law ordered something that all 3 of them agreed was inedible. She at 2 bites and then my wife and daughter tried 1 bite each. The server wanted to do the right thing and get her something else. The manager apparently argued with them and was outright rude. After some time offered to refund half. She then took it into the kitchen and came back out indicating the cook agreed it was incorrect. But was still rude about it. We have too many local brunch restaurants where customers are treated nicely to revisit here anytime soon. Maybe when they get their act together we can give it one more try. . read more

Second time i have been here. First time was a little slow but not to horrible. Today....unexceptable!!!!!!!! I would not go here if I was you. I would give a zero or negative stars if I could; but, I cant. First off it was cold.... no heat. Waited 1 hour after we ordered and never got food so we left. Ordered coffee never got a refill in 45 min. I have never left a restaurant after ordering food; but, I did today it was ridiculous wait for food with no explication. Plus we were seated next to a family that the women was trying to start a fight with the guy she was with. The guy she was with sent his order back two times because the eggs weren't right and no cheese on what he ordered the second time. Absolutely ridiculous. Go to a different restaurant and wait and actually get your food. Will NEVER EVER GO HERE AGAIN and will tell everyone to STAY AWAY. Not worth the headache or prices for service. read more

Amazing breakfast with a great atmosphere! We ate breakfast here every day we were in town, and we were not disappointed! They really go above and beyond to make sure your dishes exceed your expectations. Not only was the food great, but the service was even better. Very friendly servers that took their time ensuring your were taken care of despite the full house.
