It's all open-air, so you're IN Tampa. Immersed. I had a taco (Al Pastor), a quesabirria taco, and jalapeño poppers. Clearly, the quesabirria taco is the star of the show. Soft, savory, and served with a cup of jugo / consomme / broth for dipping. Really tasty! The taco al pastor was fine. Served on a soft corn tortilla, not fried, with just the right amount of filling in the traditional way: Meat, onion, cilantro (and a dab of guac because we're Americans, dammit! :-) ) I don't think the tortillas are made on-site, but as a Mexican that's something I'm spoiled by. No stars deducted for this faux pas. The poppers were... disappointing. I think they come off the PFG or Sysco truck, frozen. Dropped in the deep fryer and served up with a side of sour cream. I don't know what I expected, exactly, but after the made-to-order tacos this was a little bit of a letdown. But... bottom line: I'll be back when in Tampa. I had an off-line offer and decided to stop in. The food was very fresh. The chicken was cooked fresh to order and the taco shell was amazing. It took about 15 minutes to receive my order, but it was worth the wait. Customer service was very attentive, nice and patient. The only downside is it's outside only so if you go in the middle of the day, prepare for that and the chickens were very bothersome while eating apparently they are use to being fed here. I think what hooked me in was one of the reviews making a comment about the neighborhood. Honestly, the neighborhood was absolutely fine. As a solo woman diner, I would have no problem coming back here time and time again. I asked if the gentleman working preferred the queso or the salsa, and he said the queso, so I started off with the queso and chips. Definitely more chips than queso.... But that's OK, because I probably didn't need to finish all the chips I had one Carne Asada and one Pollo taco. The guac on both was very flavorful! Hey, Jimmy! So glad we found you! So quaint, so charming, so yummy. My friend I visited on a Saturday afternoon and really enjoyed it. Located just south of Seventh Ave (the main drag) in historic Ybor City, on 17th Street, it's a little yellow building with an eye-catching logo/branding. There's a walk-up, take out window or you can choose to dine on the covered patio. (You walk up to order, they deliver to the table) We ate there, under the patio lights and amongst the visiting roosters (both of which add to the audience). The menu isn't large, but it includes appetizers, sides and desserts. There are lots of soft drink options and I think they've recently added beer, wine and sangria. My friend chose the birria tacos and I had the shrimp tacos, on blue tortillas. They were both tasty-and I was happy the mango salsa on the shrimp tacos wasn't too heavy on the onions. We also shared the chips and queso. (The chips were really good). Everything was super fresh and had a "from scratch" feel to it. Prices are reasonable-there's limited parking on site and a large, multi-story parking garage nearby... and you can walk to all of the other fun spots Ybor has to offer. (We followed up with a visit to a wine bar) I'll definitely go back and try more tacos, the jalapeño poppers, the desserts and the sangria. Plus, I need to keep up with my rooster friends. Jimmy's Tacos used to be a favorite, but this visit left us underwhelmed this time. Let's start with the taces... the birria has lost its flavor magic--a little bland and forgettable. The steak tacos were the worst: chewy, full of gristle, and basically inedible. The al pastor was okay. The new sauce packets leak everywhere, and now they serve everything on wooden cutting boards--cute maybe, but not exactly hygienic (they're known to be a petri dish for bacteria growth if not cleaned properly). These weren't used before, and I wish they'd go back to plates. $32 for six tacos and two sodas? Way overpriced for what you get. Jimmy's still has an okay vibe, (parking can suck sometimes) but the food's no longer worth the hype. There's street parking available, plus a dirt lot right next to the restaurant that you can use. Prices are on the higher end. Since it's outdoor seating, be prepared to fend off the chickens and roosters, as they can be a bit pushy. However, if you show them you're into chicken tacos, they might just leave you be. I went for the taco bowl, which includes black beans, onions, jalapenos, shredded cheese, tomatoes, and a choice of meat--I opted for steak or carne asada. It comes with packets of hot sauce, ranch, and sour cream (you'll need to add these to your meal). I liked my meal, though if I had to nitpick, I'd say the portion was a tad small. My wife chose the 3 taco special that came with a drink. The tacos were topped with cilantro, onion, and guacamole. This had been on my list for a while now, and recently , I noticed the social media presence increasing, so while in the area, we decided to try it. Mainly because they had the birria tacos that neither of us have had before. We paid and were waiting for everything to go through, and the gentleman taking our order suddenly realized they didn't have the cider and asked what else I wanted. I said, nothing if you don't have that, he said well it's not up here (they had some beers and drinks out on display) and I was like ahhhh well it's on your list that you manually had to place out here... he continued to wait for me to ask for something else. I didn't want anything else, and I am sorry you have to do a refund, but oh well. Not really my problem, but he was making it noticeable that it was inconvenient for him. So my pollo taco, the good part was that the chicken wasn't dry. Most places we go for street tacos honestly have dry chicken. But it wasn't really flavorful. Carne asada has a lot of fat on my pieces that I peeled off from the top pieces and then bite really hard to get through while eating the taco. Again, not super flavorful, but on both, I could tell everything was fresh. Ben ate his birria slowly, trying to get all the flavors and really see what the dip brought to the taco. His opinion was they were good but wasn't really getting a difference other than being juicy to what the dip brought but again wished they were more flavorful. First, I'll say that they did well with the space that was given. There is a place to park, they have only outside seating with plenty of shade and overall I like the vibe. This a fast casual spot where you order at the front, you find a place to sit and they call your number when your food is ready. I like the system but it might be best to give the customers' order numbers on a stand so there isn't someone screaming trying find who the food belongs to and they can just see the number on their table, but it's just an idea. They have a good deal on a taco combo but I decided to go with the carne asada torta. It was a bit dry and that's because when I took off the top bread I see they only added just a bit of butter and Mayo in the center of my sandwich, it wasn't spread out to get an even bit. This is a super hole in the wall taco place in Ybor. It's not next door to much else, but it is close to the main Ybor strip of bars and restaurants. There is plenty of parking for the space. I got a Sprite, chicken tacos, and churros for dessert. The tacos were served the classic way with onions and cilantro.
