Pay attention to this one folks for it is easy to miss. A small deli indeed, that looks as if it were a house transformed into a deli, sitting next door to another house. I walked in and from first glance, you can tell it is a staple type establishment for those within the community of Plainville. A spot that folks love to hit up in the mornings and for lunch to get their day started and to keep it going. I always can appreciate a good home-style vibe. Jim's had a few patrons inside, all having conversations with the ladies behind the counter that were making food and then the gentleman at the register as well. I will say that when I walked up to the counter, one lady looked at me as if I had a third eye, scoffed and walked away but I didn't think much of it for she may have been having a bad morning....moments later the other Woman said, "What do you want?" in a questionable tone but again, I digress for they both looked flustered. I placed an order and simply walked to the register and proceeded to grab a few more items for my review. I started off with the Pastrami Reuben on hardroll. The roll was toasted for that crispy factor and the pastrami itself, was good. You really can't go wrong when the cut on the pastrami is just right and it has a nice cut about it. The sauerkraut was ok, nothing major to write home about to be honest and it had a nice savory sauce with some Swiss cheese that. complemented the sandwich. Moving along to their macaroni salad! The mayo was tangy, and the red onions drew in the flavor profile rather nicely. It was seasoned with pepper as well and with the macaroni cooked to near perfection, you couldn't go wrong here. Now their Bacon, Egg and cheese on a hard roll left much to be desired. More BREAD than egg and bacon....You could barely see it from the side, let alone taste anything. I was sadly disappointed in their excuse for a breakfast sandwich. It lacked style, ingredients and flavor. This brings us over to their Apple Crisp! Fresh apples, cinnamon and granola goodness that made up for the horrible breakfast sandwich. Each bite of the crisp sent harps my way to play me a melody of tasty treats. Not too bad but between their. questionable customer service and my breakfast sandwich, I can only give Jim's an overall score of 3.5. read more

I've been going to Jims Deli for years. When I moved out of state, the hardest part was detaching from this establishment. Having returned to CT, I can't stop going it's like I'm trying to make up for lost time. The "Pot Roast" SAMICHES :) are out of this world! Always friendly, clean and consistent! Your eyes will always be bigger than your stomach once you step inside and smell the aroma, especially since the menu has so many hearty items to choose from, you end up buying more than one lol! I was awakened EARLY this morning by my fiancé to have me call in a couple sandwiches to pick up on his way in to work! He's new to the state, but he's also worse than me with the Jims Deli addiction! This hometown staple never disappoints, and they have the happiest people ever working there. Just "GO"... This has been my local go to deli for years and I can't believe I have not reviewed it yet. We stopped in and got a billy club on a hard roll and a Jim's Italian on a hard roll. Sandwiches are delicious and the bread is soft and super fresh from harvest bakery. They have so many sandwich options to choose from it can be overwhelming for a first timer. You walk to the back of a local convenience store, and there you will find a sandwich counter in the back corner. There are literally dozens of sandwich options to choose from. We had the #13 Italian Combo Grinder, the #41 Air Connection Grinder, and #6 Tasty Tuna. Everything comes on freshly baked bread. The Italian Combo is packed with fresh Italian meats (Capicola, salami, pepperoni, ham) and cheese (provolone), and you can customize the accoutrements. The Tasty Tuna has tuna, cheddar, bacon, and jalapen~o. The prices are quite reasonable (the price for lunch for three was $30.85). There are a few tables where you can dine in. Found this place on Yelp and it seemed pretty sweet. Many different sandwiches, grinders and wraps to choose from. Usually I try to sample them all at least once, but I'm not down here often enough. I got if I remember correctly a 'wayback' which is pulled pork, coleslaw and Mac n cheese. I got it in a wrap and it's was really good, everything worked well together. I just wish there was a little more slaw on it. It's a grab and go spot, no place to sit and feast. Parking was kind of rough as I came at lunchtime and they were hoppin. read more

It's a shame because this place could be pretty dam good as they already have very good roll and grinder bread from Harvest bakery in Bristol. Unfortunately like so many of the other delis out there they measure every piece of meat they put on the grinders!!! It ends up looking like Subway all bread and NO meat!!! Prob one of the best deli's in the state. The ppl are super friendly. And they have getting thru a rush down to a science. Always fresh and the choices are endless. This is another hidden gem of Plainville. Jim's makes one of the best sandwiches (breakfast and lunch) in the area. The staff is super friendly. Once I bought sandwiches here and I told them I was headed to beach. They wrapped my sandwiches and put them in a tied plastic bag so they wouldn't get wet in my cooler. I didn't even have to ask! That's how nice they are. I have never gotten a bad sandwich and I've been coming here for at least 10 years. The bread is so good (from Harvest bakery) and they have a great selection of cheeses, condiments and boars head deli meats. It's a little pricer than a chain place like subway but it's well worth money!! My personal favorites are the kickin chicken and the Cameron. There are daily specials and if you don't see a sandwich you like, you can always create your own. Definitely go to Jim's deli if you get the chance, you won't be disappointed. read more

Awesome!! We are passing through on our way to Boston from a little town in Pennsylvania and this place was just like home! I got the seafood salad hoagie and it was delicious. My husband got the Jake hoagie with honey ham honey turkey bacon, etc which was also delicious! Good place for grinder. Got the Italian combo. I will say it seemed fresh as far as meat and bread. Can't go wrong with harvest sub rolls. Lettuce is kinda big, they should switch to shredded. Gonna go back and try roast beef or chicken cutlet. It was good but not as good as the reviews here. Living in the area I think the problem is sub par delis. My office orders from Jim's every few weeks. My favorite sandwich is The Trucker is my favorite - teriyaki chicken with cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onion and sour cream. I heard about this sub shop and decided to try it. I had the large sub (footlong) called "Jim's Italian" (Salami, Capicola, Pepperoni, Ham) which cost me just under $14 (including a $1 tip). The meat for the sandwich was pre-sliced and stored in some wax paper. It had been stored this way for so long the colors from the pepperoni, had bled, and had stained all the other meat. My hubby & I stopped here for a sandwich about 3 weeks ago. We ordered the toasted pastrami, Swiss, coleslaw, onion straws & red onion on a hard roll & had the woman put horseradish mayo on it. This sandwich was delicious! As a matter of fact, we enjoyed this sandwich so much that we went back this weekend for another one, but this time we wanted a larger portion because it was so good, so we ordered the identical sandwich on a grinder roll. This time a different woman prepared the sandwich. We did not enjoy this sandwich nearly as much as we did the first time. Upon analyzing the sandwich to determine why, we found that some of the red onion was so thick that it was overpowering the sandwich and the onion straws were left out! Apparently, this changed the entire dynamic of this sandwich. Consistency is key. We would have given this place a 5 star review based on the first sandwich, but because of the second sandwich, which should have tasted identical to the first, we feel that this place is more of a 3. read more

Best takeout sandwiches! Don't be scared off by the look of the building - be brave and head for the back of the store to order your food. We had the pastrami, chicken buffalo, the mistake and spanky's firefighter. The pastrami had bacon which added such a great extra layer of flavor. My son loved the spanky - said it was the best sandwich he has ever had. The buffalo was good but not over the top like the other sandwiches. Ordered a breakfast wrap with egg ham and cheese. I asked for extra cheese and the guy who made it insisted on yelling "extra dollar for the cheese" 3 times. I could care less about the fact that they charge $1 for one slice of cheese, but yelling that 3 times, he made me think it was a personal thing.
