Jim's is a solid option for good family cooking. The bread is fresh and I presume the staff have worked there for many many years. This restaurant is a staple in the community. It's small inside, but has a few large tables. They only accept reservations for 10 or more so it's first come first serve. The portions are large and the food tastes fresh. As a local Jim's has been hit or miss for me over the years. Overall, I like visiting, their fresh baked bread is delicious and their all you can eat salad is a family hit. Remember to specify your pasta or you'll get angel hair (I always forget). My wife is italian and the red sauce is just too sweet and sugary for her -- I tend to agree but I still enjoy my dish. They offer various lunch sandwiches which are great. The restaurant is near the courthouse in a residential area on a hillside. There's plenty of street parking but access may be tricky for older or ADA visitors. The interior is small, dated and generally packed with locals. They do accomodate large parties but I'd plan ahead. Pricing isn't bad (typically $15-$18/ea) and you'll leave full. read more

When I say I'm home sick, I usually just mean I miss Jim's. It's hidden on a back alley in downtown Bellefonte but don't let that fool it - it's the BEST little family owned restaurant around. It's one of the restaurants where everyone knows everyone and you just feel at home. Every meal (I think every meal, at least) comes with a side salad and bread (garlic or plain) - SO GOOD. I really can't describe what it is that makes this place so special - maybe it's the memories or maybe it's just the simplicity of it all but Jim's will always be my favorite place to eat, hands down. I've never been to the physical restaurant but one day a week, Jim's delivers on campus for large orders - let me tell you, this food is GREAT!!! The sauce tastes just like an Italian grandmother slaved for hours making it. The noodles were fresh and the serving size is massive! My wife brought home a Italian hoagie & lasagna from here, well the sauce on the lasagna is sooo sweet and probably comes from a jar. My husband's boss recommended Jim's. He warned us that we would feel like we were heading into a back alley on our way there, and he was right! It was crowded when we walked in the door, but the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Our waitress was sweet and helpful, with recommendations for us as first timers. By far, hands down, the best Italian Resturant in Central PA. I have NEVER had a bad meal here. The place looks like a hole in the wall, but surprises you when you walk in. It can accommodate parties of 2 to 20. Their salads are more than a bowl of lettuce, and their dressing gets raves from everyone. Most meals also come a side of fresh baked garlic bread that is perfect! Their sauce is on the sweeter side. Portions are considerable, and the menu has a lot of variety. Do not expect to leave hungry. Only two small drawbacks. The parking can be scarce, and the restrooms are NOT Handicapped accessible. read more

This place was awesome. A co-worker recommended. I was hesitant since we went at 5:30 on a Friday and the place is tiny. They sat us quickly and the food started rolling. Delicious salads and the garlic bread was amazing. I got the chicken parm. I should mention that their portions are massive. Easily enough to split between two people. Like others have said their sauce is sweet, but I found it delicious. It was different than anywhere else I've ate and good. I recently moved to bellefonte and wanted to support local places. This has to be one of the best Italian places I've gone to is PA. The spaghetti is amazing if you love a sweeter sauce. The meat sauce and meat balls taste just like my mothers so it gave that homemade comfort. The portions are huge and enough for two meals. The garlic bread was fantastic! Only food issue is the Italian salad dressing doesn't really have a taste. Good luck getting through on the phone if that's how you plan on ordering because it only has one line and it's always busy. When we lived in Bellefonte we had heard pros and cons about this place. We decided to give it a try and it just wasn't for us. The parking was sparse and awkward. Once we got inside it wasn't busy by any means (we were always warned to get there early), but it was still very crowded. The atmosphere wasn't the greatest- it was pretty much a hole in the wall and there was clutter everywhere. It needed to be dusted and it just looked dirty. It made me question what the kitchen looked like, but we were hungry at that point and stayed to order. We each had the spaghetti and sauce and it was way too sweet. The salad was good, the bread was okay, but that sauce.. not so much. I like a savory sauce, but meal aside, the rating is based on the atmosphere of the place. And we couldn t resist trying the pizza after the waitress said yes, the crust is home made and baked to order. Not true! We couldn t eat the crust. A wonderful restaurant to eat at with very few shortcomings. First off, the food is amazing! Everything tastes great together, it's hard to explain. The salad, the bread, the meal, everything compliments each other. Whether by design or mistake, it doesn't matter, it's just really good food! The owner is an extremely friendly and hard-working guy who always greets me when he's at the front. The staff he hired is just as friendly and personable, it makes me wish that I was better at talking to people. Service is great and food gets to you fast, you never feel like you're waiting too long, and refills are plenty. There is really only one shortcoming worth mentioning, and it's the location of the restaurant. The restaurant has been in the same spot for years, but it's always a huge burden to park. The restaurant is lodged into a steep hill, so not much natural light gets inside. The lack of windows is a good thing since there's no view outside worth looking at. This was the only reason for a loss of a star. If you haven't eaten here, you're missing out. read more

Went this weekend to take our mother for birthday dinner...we had just arrived from North Carolina and we arrived at 745p -(hours of operation say open until 8pm) - As we walked in the waitresses were rude to our face and swearing saying we close at 8 ...well it wasn't 8 yet...and they refused to seat us. I just went to Jim's for the first time and I gotta say it was pretty darn tasty. Very reasonable priced and a nice clean restaurant. I'm not into the sweet sauce but my friend got the pasta with meat sauce and he said it was fantastic. The cottage fries were yummy and my chipped steak was also good. I have been eating at Jim's since I moved to PA since 2008. I once lived in bellefonte I now live almost 2 hours away and still make an excuse every so often to go out there to eat Jim's. People complain about the sweet sauce I have many Italian friends and have been to Italy there sauce is sweet.
