The reason I am giving this place 4 stars is because the waitress we had was amazing and the food was good! The waitress we had was busting her butt waiting on the whole restaurant while the other younger Hispanic girl was leaning on the counter scratching her scratch offs. Then made an announcement that she won 50 bucks and she go home because of it. I called her to the table bc the other women was running around taking orders and getting food and drinks and when I did she replayed with huh what do you want! I was in shock of how rude and disrespectful she was but I guess I was making her work how could I! Then she sat at the counter with what I am guessing the manager and talked to him while the other women ran around! I had to wait about 10-15 minutes for drinks. I understand that my visit was way off the normal hours, however, if you are 24/7, you should maintain a consistency regardless of the time of day. My visit was to satisfy a 3 am hunger I was struck with at our Arboretum area hotel ( Room service was closed, nothing too appealing in their convenience store) Having found that this Jim's was less than five miles away, my mouth could instantly taste some delicious cheese soup. When I arrived, a terribly dour woman behind the register informed me that she had just thrown out the cheese soup which had set in the warmer since 11:30 the previous morning! And that there would not be any more forthcoming until the same time this morning . At this point, an even more dour woman handed me a menu. I centered in on the Eggs Benedict, reasoning that if I could not have my cheese soup, that I would treat myself to one of my favorites. What I received was something far different. To begin with, the only way one could apply the word "poached" to the eggs would be to describe the death of the chicken who laid them. These eggs were overcooked almost to the point of being hard boiled. The ham which was generously piled on, was a grade below the cheapest process luncheon meat that you could possibly find. The texture was rubbery and the salt content could effect the blood pressure of a small town. The hollandaise sauce tasted like watered down Knorr. The hash browns had enough oil to form their own cartel. As I was throwing 3/4 of this food away, it occurred to me that I would probably be as sour as the employees I had come in contact with if I worked in a place that produced such a product. read more

I went here on Tuesday night around 2am. It was clearly pretty busy, and there were only two waiters. We saw everyone else get their food, so we finally asked about ours almost an hour after ordering. The server explained that she had forgotten to put in the order. Our food came out very shortly after that. I ordered a plate with bacon, eggs, and pancakes. I only received eggs. I let my server know, but also explained that it was so late in the evening I was no longer hungry and didn't want the rest of my meal. After that the manger came to check up on us. She apologized one time but didn't smile, and she brought us the ticket charging us for the eggs, and the chorizo plate my friends ordered. After waiting almost two hours I feel like we shouldn't have payed anything. We were offered dessert, but it was late and none of us wanted dessert. I would have been fine with a voucher to come back and order the same meal. I was not pleased with the way the manager Kim handled things. I also noticed that she started to chew out our server as soon as we walked out the door. Kim didn't even try to pull our server aside into the office to talk. I feel like that's unprofessional to lecture an employee in front of customers. I didn't see the manager help the servers bring food to the tables for the one hour they were busy and struggling to keep up. Isn't that what a restaurant manger is payed to do? Yes I was annoyed that our server forgot to put in our order, but that's a mistake. However, Kim seeming annoyed as she payed us out at the register was not a mistake, and made us feel very uncomfortable. The menu is plentiful but the food is very bland. Al of the dishes taste the same; bland. The dishes need to be changed out. They are dingy looking. The plastic glasses are disgusting. The silverware is full of hard water spots. You cannot eat without having to fan away baby flies and gnats. Great laid back country atmosphere. Food is always good here. They have deals for kids too. In my opinion, its like an IHOP with a more personal touch and a lower price tag. The kids loved it too. We will be coming here more often. Oh and Chicken Fried Steak breakfast! Need I say more?? read more

Horrible. I had a good experience once years ago. Last night was awful. My veggie omlette came with only mushrooms. Which is not what the menu entailed. I'm a teacher nearby, so I called ahead for our order. The people were very friendly and helpful and the order was ready when I got there (I thought). BUT when I returned to school one of the meals was left out of the bag. I called back and used the rest of my lunch 30 minutes to get the other teachers' meal. It was an honest mistake and the staff was very apologetic. They gave us both a slice of pie for our inconvenience. So I'll eat my food alittle later during my planning time and enjoy a delicious piece of pie. :) read more

The food here was really good but the service was horrible. When we walked in the waitress told us to seat ourselves but proceeded to seat anyone else that came in after us. Then another waitress finally came over and took down our drinks after proceeding to ask ""unless someone else took your drinks?" After we got our drinks we waited a good 15-20 minutes for someone to take our order but then finally had to go find someone and ask for service. We came in at 9:30, there were 4 waitresses and only 6 or 7 tables so it wasn't as if they were busy. read more

I came here at 1 in the morning expecting excellence and I was extremely disappointed. My two hours of waiting were for nothing and I have left in tears. This is the saddest experience I've yet to go through in my small life. I can't believe that after almoshours of hard sweat and tears I ended up with no food and a empty table. Went there tonight just after the bars closed, food was spot on; took about 20-25 minutes from the time we ordered, but could tell they were understaffed(nobody's fault). Our server was honest and apologetic; genuinely concerned about the ticket time. She took care of our group and knew how to ask for help when needed!!! Okay first i want to say I've been coming to Jims since awhile back. My experience today started off good sat at the bar waited a bit. Then the waitress came Hispanic woman ask me if i was ready so she could take my order i said yes. So i order biscuit gravy scramble eggs toast then i asked her for coffee and water plus i was thinking french toast so she said i could order half so i did. Well she brought my coffee then my breakfast so she never brought my water so i asked again and of course i know it's busy but well again she never made it back with the water so i couple take medication plus i felt like choking since i have thyroid problems. If you're expecting substandard food then that is absolutely what you will get. It wasn't gross but it wasn't anything above or below Denny's. I had the chili and proceeded to have pretty bad stomach issues all night, would say maybe avoid the chili but I liked the coffee, the service was great, and their hashbrowns were nice and crispy! read more

a couple nights back, they forgot half of my to go order. i didn't notice until got home. so I called, and the girl took my name and number and said they would put a note in the office, and to come back in for the rest. went back in tonight to get the rest of my order. i was kind of upset that i even had to come back in... they could have mailed me a certificate or something. but i was even more upset when i came back in and they couldn't find any note, nor would give me the part of my order that was missing (which was just french toast, mind you). the manager at the time (didn't get his name- overweight black man) said he "couldn't help me because there was no evidence". evidence? what is this a crime scene? there was no offer to see who it was i might have spoke with on the phone, or take my name, or whatever, anything. nope, nothin- just we cant help you. wont get my business ever again Jim, and I may just take this to another level. I hate bad customer service, and I hate getting ripped off even more. read more

It was a Saturday night and it was not busy at all. We were greeted right away but it went south after that. We orders drinks but the waitress left to take a to go order and was running food this forgetting our drinks until I waved her down. She proceeded to work on the to go order and didn't bother to take our order until I said we need to leave at it already took 25 min to get drinks after we ordered them. I've never waited so long to get drinks or order. Geez, we ended up getting the food to go and it was horrible. The jalapeño gravy was old and the biscuit tasted stale. I have only visited this place twice. First time was a late night after a bar and it wasn't the worst. I went back again with my girlfriend a few months later and was not pleased. All the tables are very sticky and overall not very clean. The food ordered was luke warm and overall not that great. I went to Jim's Restaurant on Burnet Rd. I've visited this location several times over several years. I identified this location as my place to decompress before going home. Before leaving I usually purchase a lunch the following day. This particular day after 8:30 PM, I walked in and stood at the 'wait to be seated sign'. I was the first and only person in line. I stood there for 25 minutes. The waitress would look at me periodically and continued to provide customer service to existing/seated customers. She walked to the cash register several times to process payments for others. The cash register was located near the 'wait to be seated' sign. No acknowledgement. No head nod. No 'I will be with you in a moment'. No 'Take a seat and I'll be with you'. I was extremely DISAPPOINTED. The waitress would look at me and I would smile back. Nothing said to me. She was not that busy. She could have easy seated me or told me to seat myself. A concerned Lady (a table of four / all over age 50) took notice to me and invited me to seat with her family. I politely said 'thank you' and told her I was patient. The waitress heard the conversation. Still no acknowledgement. The concerned Lady got up and walked over to me again and told me to take a seat. I seated myself. The waitress came over and took my order. She was so lackluster and depressing. Still no apology and/or fake excuse for such treatment. I gave her my order and I looked at her like 'what is her problem'. I went the entire day without eating and too tired to address the situation. I just wanted a peaceful moment to relax. She didn't feel a need to periodically check whether or not I need something during my meal. I sat there thinking .. good thing I can see the cook preparing my food and placing it thru the window, otherwise I would not have trusted her to retrieve my food from the back. After I finished eating, I asked for my receipt and the waitress informed that the meal was free. I thought the waitress handled the bill, considering the poor customer service. Something told me to ask her why. The waitress informed me the concerned Lady paid for my meal. That was extremely nice of the concerned Lady. I wanted to thank her. I looked around, but the table of four already left the restaurant .There were several waitresses working the floor, however they looked at me, but no walked over to me to provide a seat. I assumed the other waitresses could not seat me, because they had to comply with the customer seating rotation policy, whereby customers are assigned to waitresses/servers upon entering the restaurant. I guess this particular day/night I was assigned to a section covered by a waitress who didn't have any more TIME or ENERGY to properly serve me nor APOLOGIZE for ignoring me. I always leave a tip. This time I didn't want to leave a tip. However, to make myself feel good AND combat the negative energy received by the waitress, I left an undeserving $2 tip. She actually thanked me for the tip. Still no damn apology .. Usually, I resolve such issue internally, but I decided to share my experience with the Yelp community. #asimpleapology read more

SUCH nice wait staff! They bend over backwards to please me. My favorite thing on the menu is the ribeye steak dinner. Wonderful! Large piece of meat with big baked potato. Excellent side salad! Everything tastes so fresh. I always get mine to go and they put in everything you could possibly need--A-1,catchup, all the fixin's for the potato and even 2 containers of salad dressing. 1000 Island is delicious! The price is very reasonable. I am going to probably make this a weekly tradition! Can't say enough good things about the food and the folks who work there! read more

I have been going to Jims for about 6 months now. I go about 5 days a week after work or a good night of drinking. The waitresses, (K.K. Jennifer, and Ashley) are always the best to me. Stevon, the cook/manager is amazing as well. I order the grilled chicken salad every time. When they see my car pull up or see me get out of my uber they put my order in asap. I have never had a bad meal or service here. I highly recommend this place if you are in the area! read more

I've had ups and downs with this place in the late night hours, as there aren't a lot of places open in Austin at 4am....but recently I stopped by thinking I could get a decent milkshake for a couple bucks and boy was I disappointed... not only did this milkshake cost me 4 damn dollars, the server brought out a very small cup, barely bigger than your typical styrofoam coffee cup, and I said, "Man, that's not much shake for $4...am I at a carnival or a restaurant?" The server mumbled something about it's normally in a smaller cup, as if he were doing me a favor giving me an extra portion! To top it off (no pun intended!), once I popped the lid off the cup, it was barely half freaking full! And the top 1/3 was whip cream! Total rip off ! Jim's sucks at night! Maybe the quality of service is better during normal business hours but I have felt ripped off the 2 times I've been here overnight and I'll never give them my business again. Terrible! read more
