First time here. Was craving a good cheeseburger, Buddy's popped up so we took a 15 min drive here. We were in the drive thru line for 30 minutes. And we were 5th in line. We ordered a double with cheese meal and a spicy single sign cheese meal The double burger was good, lettuce tomato sauce and I added pickles. The seasoned fries were much better than the plain fries. I ordered the strawberry lemonade, it was ok. I did like the secret sauce they put on the burhers.. I got a side for the fries. Ok burger 2nd time around, not as good as before and noticeably smaller. My first visit a few months ago was an easy 5 stars--everything was great. This most recent visit, however, was more of a 3-star experience. A-Ok. I hadn't been back in a while, but I happened to drive by and remembered how good it was last time, so I decided to give it another shot. The dining room was nearly empty, so it wasn't busy. They're currently offering a chili burger, but I was in the mood for something simpler and ordered the double spicy burger with jalapeños, grilled onions, and spicy sauce. I also asked if I could get extra raw onions, which they said was no problem. I ordered it to go, and when I opened it at home, I could immediately tell something was different. The burger was noticeably smaller than on my previous visit, and I didn't have hardly any raw onions. In fact, the grilled onions were pretty light as well. Another slight difference was the taste - it wasn't as flavorful as last time. The burger alone was $10, which makes the portion size more noticeable. The missing onions weren't a huge deal since I had some at home, but the size difference was disappointing. One of the main reasons I came back was because the burger previously felt generous and tasted great so it was worth the premium price. This time, that experience wasn't duplicated. So it's an ok burger, but the apparent shrinkage makes it harder to justify the price. I can't say I am as excited to rush back anytime soon like I was last time when I get another burger craving. Service here was attentive and alway polite, which is why I kept it 3-stars instead of 2-stars. I love Buddy's! Glad they are near my office because they make a damn good smashed burger! The spicy with cheese and seasoned fries are the way to go! They make fresh lemonade that is amazing and have cheap beer on tap. Glad they have a drive through, but it gets long at lunch time! That's a good sign! read more

Kind of a scam, we paid $30 for 2 burgers, 1 fry, 1 fountain drink, and 1 shake. Guy at the counter didn't say that the Cajun seasoning was an extra cost?? Just asked if I wanted salted or Cajun seasoning on the fries. Got one piece of bacon on my burger AND the burger had absolutely NO salt on it. Just a hunk of plain meat. He sold me on their homemade Lemonade and it was delicious. He suggested the mix of Strawberry and Mango and it did not disappoint. I ordered the seasoned fries and they were delicious! It was good! Patties were thin but juicy and buns were soft. Burgers were a bit small, but having the fries as well filled me up. I particularly enjoyed their fries. They have a delicious seasoning on them, which really elevated them. Service was fast as you just order at the front. Ambiance is good. Not too packed, but they still have a good amount of customers. Buddy's Burgers took me straight back to my childhood. Buddy's Burgers are the hamburgers that restaurants used to take the time out to make back in the day, and don't anymore. Plus, they have draft beer on the menu. I'm sure some of you remember back in our childhood when most of our dads and their friends had hamburgers with beer. Well, the outside caught my attention, and I did a quick turnaround. It was nighttime, and I saw the lights and the hamburger sign all lit up. I went inside, and the menu was simple, the way I like it. That tells you they know how to make a good hamburger. It also says that they don't need to add a zillion hamburger names to the menu to get you curious enough to try one. I ordered the Double Classic with cheese, which comes with pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, jalapenos, and Buddy's Spicy Smack Sauce. Now, to tell you that they know how to make a burger, they did not pile on the lettuce, tomatoes, etc. I also like that the jalapeno was chopped into little fine pieces, and with the spicy Smack sauce and the pepper jack cheese, it made a nice combination of spice and savory. On top of that flavor, the meat was well seasoned and cooked to perfection. I like that it was not a round burger; it was a real hamburger with jagged edges. I actually ate the whole burger right there. I thought that because of its size, I would have some to take home later, but I did not. It's really a great old-fashioned burger place. The fries were the same, made the old-fashioned way. I dipped them in the buddy smack sauce and ketchup, which was very good. Oh, and you can get the fries regular or spicy! Oh. My. God. Best burgers in Austin by far. The wait times are long, because they are just so popular. Wait. Wait as long as it takes to get your burger. Oh and the staff is MOVING. A this volume, I'm surprised they keep up the quality. They impart Chick Fil A service and attitude. Hello at every door opening and a goodbye every time you walk out with your incredible burger. I'm just sad there aren't more locations. I can't think of any restaurant where the staff seem happy to be there and happy to see you as a patron. Good vibes and a very clean restaurant. OMG... such a great little spot for amazing smash burgers! Super crispy griddled edges with nice seasoning. I'd say in my top 3 along with Patty Palace and Jewboy here in Austin for a smash burgers. And the fries were crisp and tasty--lightly salted on the plain. Service was super friendly and place is clean. I'd call this upscale fast food. Came here after work for dinner and ordered the double classic burger with seasoned fries and a mango lemonade. Right when I walked in all of the workers welcomed me. There was no wait and I appreciated that they had different lemonade flavors and shakes. When I got my food it was hot. The burger was tasty how ever the bun was a bit thin making it messy to eat. The fries were good however a bit too seasoned for my liking. I also enjoyed my mango lemonade. The price for everything was about $15. There is also a parking lot as well. read more

Slow, slow, slow. That was the theme of our visit. I was craving a good burger and pulled up a Yelp collection of "best burgers in Austin." Buddy's popped up, so maybe my expectations were too high? But srsly. I don't get the hype. We waited in line forever. Although second in line, we still stood there for about 15 minutes before finally placing our order. Then another 15 minutes at least before the food came out. "Fast" food, it was not. Regarding the burger itself, at the end of the day this is basically a fast-food joint, and not even as good as other fast-food options in Austin. The patties themselves are ok (for fast food), but the toppings were sad--thinnest tomato slice I've ever seen, wilted, brownish shredded lettuce, and a forgettable bun. I will say: I liked the fries. They're double fried, which is uncommon for fast food here. But it wasn't enough to make up for the mediocre burger and slow service. The only thing that sets Buddy's apart from other fast food is they serve alcohol: draft beer and a frozen margarita machine. The beer selection was fine. Unfortunately, the margarita was way too sweet for me. Threw half of it away. I might have given 3 stars, but then worst part of our visit was trying to leave the place. We were trapped for another 15 min in our parking spot! Whoever designed the parking lot and drive-thru setup didn't think it through. Basically, the drive-thru line runs straight through the middle of an already tiny lot, so if there's a queue, you can't get your car out. Eventually, an employee taking orders outside noticed we were trying to leave and redirected a car just so we could back out. Total chaos. For fast food this place has excellent burgers. The burgers are a little greasy but with good oils. Eating this burger did not spike my blood sugar which I pay close attention too. There is both indoor and outdoor seating plus they have a drive thru. Inside has several tables spaciously laid out. You order at the counter and they will call you when it is ready. Buddy's is a counter service burger joint out in northeast Austin. Service is quick and friendly and once your order is done they'll call you to pick it up. The dining area is a big room with lots of tables and chairs, but the tables are large as some of them can seat 6 or more folks, so you might end up sharing a table with a few other diners. I ordered the double with cheese and a side of fries. Gotta admit, these burgers were not only tasty, but juicy and savory with a hit of salt that really rounds up the flavor. The fries were good, and I believe they are lightly battered and fried to really give a nice crunch. Buddy's serves beer and offers scrumptious milkshakes, too. This is definitely one of my favorite spots to get my burger fix. Coming here always gives me that cheesy juicy burger rush of endorphins. They still have the right formula and it's quite obvious if you come around lunchtime and trying to find a place to park. Once inside the noise level can be fairly high due to all the patrons. They've got a few new things going on that I did not see before such as a self ordering kiosk. I noticed that for a limited time they are offering the Franklin burger featuring Franklin barbecue sauce. It's possible they be running these burger specials from time to time. For the most part, everything in my previous review still remains the same, including the fact they do not offer onion rings. read more

I've found a new go to place for a burger! It is delicious. They make it fresh too so it can take longer than a typical fast food joint to get your food. The lemonades are great and I love love love that you get free refills with them. It's pricier than say, P Terrys, but I think it's a better product than P Terrys (not a knock on P Terry's which I love). Basically if you want higher quality at a pricier total than go to Buddy's. If you wanna save a bit and still enjoy a good meal do P Terry's. But I'll be frequenting Buddy's a lot more in the future. The fries and shakes are good too. read more

I went with the double smashburger and fries, though I was unimpressed. Flavor wise it was decently seasoned, however for a smashburger it wasn't giving the juiciness I expected. Size wise, they're fairly average. Highlight of the meal though were the seasoning used on the fries. Those babies was hitting! Overall, Buddy's was okay.
