I had an amazing experience with Jin Chinese Food. My first order was completely misdelivered by the delivery company (I received a totally different person's meal from another restaurant), and Jin went above and beyond to fix it. They immediately remade and redelivered everything so my family did not go hungry. The food itself was fantastic. The Sesame Chicken was super flavorful and not soggy at all, and the chicken was all white meat with no weird grisly pieces, which is a huge win for me. We also ordered the General Tso's tofu, which was nicely crisp, and the beef teriyaki, which was so good my kiddo ate three of them (and he is notoriously picky). The sweet and sour chicken was tasty too, and again, they used great quality chicken. I would definitely recommend trying out Jin, and I will absolutely be ordering from them again soon. read more

My son and I are in the process of visiting every Chinese restaurant in Chittenden County. We always order the same thing. I order a chicken and broccoli combo with pork fried rice and an egg roll. My son orders a sesame chicken combo with pork fried rice and teriyaki sticks. In this case, Jin's has discontinued offering combination meals, so we ordered the equivalent meals a la carte. Price: $40.65. On a price per ounce basis ( $.46/oz), the price is outrageously high. Portion: 5.5lbs between the two meals is a bit larger than average. Pros: Good location easily accessible from the heart of Winooski. Overall, the food had good flavor. The pork fried rice was moist and tasty. Microwavable trays are a bonus and distinctive. Hot and spicy offering is available. Cons: PRICE, PRICE, PRICE! On a per ounce basis, Jin's is nearly twice as expensive as comparable Chinese takeouts in Chittenden County. Reduced hours 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm, a 53% reduction from pre-Covid. By charging 2X, they're able to reduce business hours by half and maintain pre-Covid income level. We ordered just after opening at 3:00 pm and it took 35 minutes for the food to be ready. Impression: Good food at a convenient location. Ridiculously high pricing around 2X the average Chinese takeout in Chittenden County. Had the price been in line with the average for this area, this restaurant would have earned 4 stars. Because pricing was prohibitively high, we're giving Jin a 2 star review. read more

We have ordered from Jin many times and always had a great experience, but our order last night was inedible. The "chicken and rice soup" was congealed white rice and what appears to be steamed pieces of fatty, bland chicken. No broth or vegetables and a disgusting taste of rice water. Horrible. The teriyaki beef strips were thin, cold, and lacking flavor. After one bite of the cold, what appeared to be microwaved egg roll the whole $70 order went in the trash. Very disappointing. read more

I often avoid eating here because of the styrofoam containers, but I haven't had chinese food in months because of COVID19 and had a huge craving. To my surprise, the food came in plastic containers that don't spill sauce everywhere. I noticed the food seemed less greasy than usual. The order was chicken & brocoli & general tsao chicken. Everything was so tasty. Note: no more call in orders, everything is ordered online now. Food can be picked up in about 15-20 mins. Loses one star for pricing pork fried rice as $4 more. Wow! I don't what changes were made during their Covid hiatus but 5 stars for me for this nights meal! I'd been waiting for them to open back up just for convenience (they're close by and used to deliver) but the food was always mediocre at best. NOT ANYMORE! The chicken was flavorful and perfectly cooked, the broccoli had just the right amount of crunch (no soggy veggies here thank you very much!) and the crab rangoons were crispy and golden! I was staying in Colchester VT and ordered from here around 7pm in a Saturday night. From my understandings there are not many options for delivery in the area. I was visiting staying in a motel. I called and ordered chicken and mushrooms and added string beans. This comes with standard white rice ( you can upgrade to fried rice for 4$ more). Unfortunately they added carrots- Obvious, I can pick them out but once I did it took a large portion out of the meal. (Which was a bit disappointing.) I also ordered 2- vegetable rolls and soup for my friend and both were cold as well. The soup did have good flavor it was (hot & sour I believe). The Food had good flavor, and again decent portions. I recommend asking about ingredients if you are picky. The food took an hour to be delivered and the food arrived cold. I had no way to re- heat it. I'd say pricing was reasonable- for what you get. Being delivered cold is a big issue- but if you don't mind eating cold food or have a way to re-heat then maybe give it a try. read more

I was staying in Colchester and thought I'd try takeout from Jin Chinese Restaurant as I always enjoy checking out Chinese places I've never tried before. It's tucked away in a little plaza in the downtown Colchester area, and while it doesn't immediately look like much from the outside, the family who runs the place inside was very friendly. To get the most for your dollar, get something off the lunch special menu, all of which are served with white rice or pork fried rice and your choice of an appetizer, either an egg roll, crab rangoons, or chicken fingers. There is a very large selection to choose from but I got the Mongolian beef with pork fried rice and three crab rangoons - all for $6.55! The food was prepared quickly and in huge portions. This is my new favorite restaurant in the entire state of Vermont! It's not grossly greasy like most American Chinese food out there. The only place on the East Coast that has well-balanced soup options. And the only Chinese food restaurant that speaks Japanese!! Their food has more typical Japanese Chinese food characteristics than American Chinese food: balanced, light but flavorful, etc. There was only one or two people working in there when I was there, I wouldn't be surprised if they're slow on delivery. Just got some take out from here last night. When i got home from picking it up i had a misseed call from them, and my phone was ringing from them calling me a second time. I forget to get the bag with the appetizers in it. They sent a delivery guy out right away and the meal was complete within 10 minutes! Excellent service! We had Mongolian beef and a beef/green beans dish and both were excellent. Lots of good ginger in the Mongolian beef. I'm originally from Maryland, and since I moved here I have to say the quality of Chinese food is pretty terrible. However, I was craving something ethnic, and went here to yelp for some guidance. Jin's is a pretty small place, but it's well-kept and clean. The cashier lady was super nice and friendly. I ordered singapore noodles (it has shrimp, chicken, some veggies with very thin angel-hair type noodles. It has a curry taste to it). The portion was very generous, and it was very tasty! YUM!!! I always get chicken wings and the ginger chicken but I keep trying other dishes and so far nothing has disappointed me. Their wings really are amazing. Very tasty and crispy. Came here during a trip to Burlington. Large portion squeezed in a relatively small package. Fair taste with too much oil just like other Chinese restaurants. I like the egg-flower soup the best. It's hearty and made me feel like home. Beef fried rice was also very tasty. Egg rolls were huge, decent flavor, but I have to agree with another reviewer that said the dough was a little too thick for an egg roll. Only disappointment was the fried rice. It was really bland. I order take-out from Jin Chinese all the time...its sort of my late night, I'm-too-tired-to-cook fix. All of the appetizers are high quality and I like to order an assortment and make it a meal. I'm particularly impressed by the tastiness of their vegetarian starters--I recommend the dumplings and bean curd soup. The actual entrees are less appetizing because they have a tendency towards greasy rice. On that note, some people are looking for that heavy, greasy chinese food that seems to characterize the majority of American restaurants. The portions are HUGE, especially the inexpensive combo plates (I feel like I need to reiterate myself...HUGEHUGE). On a side note, the Beverage Warehouse is next door. I give this 5 stars given the area. Other than Single Pebble or Joyce's there is no real decent Chinese and American/Chinese food that is affordable and convenient for take-out. I find Jin to be both of these things. Every time I've gone in there the food has been delicious and served in large portions. Do not pay attention to the previous bad reviews. The food is good, always made fresh, with higher quality ingredients than other Chinese places in the area. The best part is that they change the oil they use frequently so everything that's fried has a nice golden crispiness to it. I've never tried the lo mein but I'd bet it is a little on the greasy side (this is chinese takeout...). It's still my favorite quick, chinese take-out place in the area (BY FAR) and is comparable to lots of hole-in-the-wall american/chinese takeout places I frequented living in Brooklyn. Great place, I've never gotten delivery from them just because I have a car and would rather pick it up fresh so I can't speak for the delivery side of things. Crab rangoons are awesome as are the dumplings. Hot and sour soup has some seasoning that separates it from regular hot and sour soups. read more

I had the appetizer combo with Crab Rangoon, spareribs and chicken wings. The portions were on the smaller side. The Crab Rangoon was creamy and very tasty. Ordered one of the lunch specials: Gen. Tso Shrimp, which comes with rice (I chose fried) and a pork egg roll. Positive: LOTS of rice, generous portions all the way. Also a nice surprise not mentioned in the menu, a hefty pile of steamed broccoli came with it. First complaint: as someone else mentioned, the egg rolls have WAY too much dough and are tough. Not to mention the duck sauce comes in a container too small for dipping. Second complaint: While I held it flat "because of the sauce" (as instructed), the bag was filled with sauce, the rice was completely soaked with sauce. Let's just say it was tricky eating out of the container and the plastic bag had to stay around it. 3rd: pork fried rice had really not much in it that I can see. A little bit of egg and pork, but that's it. 4th: The shrimp batter was completely flavorless, and soggy 5 minutes after they handed it to me. Bottom line: I threw away most of it.
