Let's start with the customer service - the staff here is all so wonderful and welcoming! After only a couple of times they will remember you and treat you like fam. Even if it's your first try, they are so kind and friendly, making everyone feel at home soon as they enter through the doors. Smiles and good vibes no matter what time you come by! The food - so incredible. The sushi rolls all taste and look super fresh and vibrant! The flavors all come together like art and hit every taste bud. We usually stick to the rolls but last night we changed it up and got the egg drop soup and some ramen which was so yummy! Especially that egg drop soup, the texture and taste was on point. The rolls were amazing as usual, we got the jinsan roll and lion roll last night. But we've tried so many different kinds and they never disappoint. Not only is the taste on point, the presentation is not to be taken lightly. Jinsan is actually a great restaurant. But serving imported shrimp, in a community that was born of shrimp fishing is insulting and is a fatal error. The irony is that if they switched to local wild caught, domestic shrimp, their bottom line would improve, as would the quality of their seafood dishes. I do eat there from time to time, but not nearly as much as I would if Jinsan supported the community that supports them. With wild caught, Louisiana shrimp I'd give them a 5 star rating. Knowing that they serve imported, inferior, and possibly unsafe shrimp I struggle to give them a 2. Jinsan, I hope you read this and make changes that support your community. If so I look forward to changing my rating to a 5 star. read more

To my surprise, the sushi here is pretty good! This place deserves more credit than what other reviews have rated it. For it's quality in sushi and presentation, I would continue coming here if I'm in the mood for sushi (and if I'm in the area). Besides, there aren't that many other choices. My favorite sushi dish here is the lobster rolls. It's made from real lobster and comes to you in a nice platter. It is however, one of their more expensive choices on the menu. Alternatively you can order fried rice or a bento box. The bento box did not fill me up, but then again I do eat a lot. Decor on the outside is nothing to be proud of. It's as ghetto as it gets, but inside gets better. It's not a grand palace, but their attempt on a Japanese atmosphere is noticed. Not bad for Louisiana. The service can be quite horrible if you aren't ordering Hibachi. They are attentive, but the food can come out slow if there is a large party and they may get your order mixed up. On two occasions, our sushi orders were mixed up on one big plate. It was nicely presented, but two people can't share the food if they sit on far sides of a table. 11/21/2014 Update I tried the Hibachi two weeks in a row because my group wanted to go again. I order the chicken fried rice ($19) each time. You get a salad, hot soup, fried rice, meat, two pieces of shrimp, and a show! The chef that cooks the meal and does the trick is young but he isn't bad. You can tell he tries to entertain the crowd. I've been staying in the area and had two meals here. This place is a gem in the fast food wasteland down here. Fresh food, attractively presented and reasonably priced. Overall, if you have a sushi craving waiting to head out to your boat, it's worth the stop and well worth saving yourself from driving all the way to Houma for one of the other sushi bars. It is somewhat overpriced, but very good quality and very nice large cuts for the sushi (almost two bite pieces of nigiri). Clueless wait staff, but the sushi chef more than makes up for their ineptitude. My only real complaint was being served chinese jasmine tea with my sushi/sashimi combo. Seems to be a fairly new place though, and with their location on the bayou perhaps I'm being too tough on them. I'll give them another try next time I'm in town. read more

Great sushi & the lunch hibachi plate is pretty good. I was disappointed there wasn't more of a variety of vegetables though. Filet mignon as my meat was very tender. This is my favorite place to get sushi as they have a large selection of tuna rolls, my favorite. They are the only sushi and hibachi restaurant for 30 or so miles. The restaurant and bar are pretty nice and the staff is friendly. The hibachi is limited to only two grills but the service is usually pretty quick. If you order 3+ rolls, they will bring your sushi out on a decorative wooden tray in the form or a bridge or boat. read more

Before Jinsan moved to its current location, I was one of their biggest fans, so when my wife suggested a sushi night, of course I drove straight to the new location. My expectation was that of the same quality and service we'd come to know and love, and that expectation was NOT fulfilled. From inattentive wait staff to watered down drinks, diminished portions (at the original-sized prices, of course) to corner cutting preparation, everything was a disappointment. Even the squid steak; formerly a bubbling hot marriage of rich and thick teriyaki glazed over crispy onions, broccoli, and carrots topped with a perfectly tender seared squid, was now a vaguely warm pile of limp squid and onions seemingly boiled in a pitifully thin teriyaki that barely clung on to anything at all. Jinsan, I sincerely hope you read this, and take it to heart. As a long-time patron of your restaurant, it pains me to say that I will be bringing my business to one of your competitors. Please, PLEASE, fix these issues, and prove me wrong, because as it stands now, you've lost your touch, you've lost your spirit, and most disappointingly of all, you've lost my respect. read more

We are some lucky folks down the bayou to be sure. Jinsan Sushi produces some of the freshest and most innovative sushi I have ever encountered. The sushi chefs will create special rolls incorporating the ingredients you select just for you! The decor is warm and inviting. The service is unintrusive and adequate. I figured I'd write this review while I'm still feeling sick from this place. This is my second and last time getting food here. The clear soup looks like dish water and my co-worker said it tasted like it too. I didn't even try mine. The fried rice is....well, not like any fried rice I've ever eaten. The cost...$10!!
