This is nice little casual Japanese restaurant in the heart of downtown Long Beach. I just happen to be in the area and was craving some Japanese food. The reason why I did not give it a full 5 on it. No fault on them. Great location, however, very poor parking situation. And small restaurant. They have several parking spaces off the street and across the street. Low traffic but hard to find parking spots, if it is busy. Just so happen to go during the week day and during lunch hours. So lucked out. This is a wonderful restaurant if you are in the area. It is not a big location. You are greeted to a wonderful and friendly staff. You are welcome to sit anywhere you like or the staff can greet you and ask you where you prefer to sit. They offer several options to dine in. You may choose the sushi bar, booth seating, booth with chairs on the other side, and of course full table seating. The seating arrangements come cushions for you for the bottom and booths have it padded for your back. Regular chairs are just hard wood backing and little padding for them. Started out the food journey with Tuna Tataki (Seared tuna w. scallion and masago and ponzu sauce). Ordered the shrimp tempura bento box and ask for regular rice instead of fried rice. Ask for salad instead of miso soup. Also an order of sashimi lunch with salad. (10 pcs assorted raw fish w. white rice). The salad when you order it is mayonnaise base not your typical ginger dressing. Very good a sweet dressing taste. Hard to describe it but it is good. The food was delicious. Not bad for the area. I know it does not seem that busy. They recently opened. I am not sure how long those? And it was during the middle of the week during lunch. However, they were very busy with to go orders for lunch. I love how they do semi-crushed ice for your fountain drinks. Unlimited refills for them. If you are thirsty. I do not recommend regular ones. They may change you per drink. Definitely recommend giving them a try if you are in the area. If you are really hungry for sushi. Try your hand at the Love Boat (10 pcs sushi, 18 pcs sashimi w. rainbow roll and black dragon roll). If you have a large group. Highly recommend you order it to go. Due to limited seating. The staff is very friendly and the food is amazing! They offer military discount with ID. They offer WiFi but it is password protected and I am not sure it is free or not?

We stopped here to eat dinner on a Saturday night around 5 pm. It's a small place, but wasn't busy, which is surprising because the food was very tasty! We ordered the clear soup and I love how much onions and mushrooms came in it! The vegetable spring rolls were a little mushy, but I still enjoyed eating them! The edamame was salty and delightful! I don't eat anything raw, so I normally go for the chicken or shrimp tempura roll! It was so good! We also tried the chicken yakisobi and it was nice as well. The staff were very helpful and friendly. They filled our drinks up consistently and the serving sizes were perfect! The restaurant looks clean and is in the cutest location! We can't wait to go back to try more!

For sushi, we tried the Kimberly Roll and the Cao Roll, and both were excellent--easily the highlight of the meal. The Kimberly Roll, with its slight jalapeño kick on top, is a must-try for anyone who enjoys a little heat. The chicken and steak fried rice was another winner--flavorful and served in a very generous portion. The chicken katsu, breaded in panko, was good as well, but the sauce on the side was served cold. Our server mentioned that only their teriyaki sauce is served hot, which felt odd given that the dish itself comes out hot. In our humble opinion, heating up the sauces would make a big difference. Service was a B: a bit slow and not particularly warm, though not unfriendly. The ambiance matched what you'd expect from a hibachi-style restaurant--lively with the occasional flash of hibachi flames across the way, which adds some fun energy to the room. Bottom Line: Koi Sushi offers some great sushi and hearty portions, with the Kimberly Roll stealing the show. Service could be sharper and those cold sauces need attention, but if you're in Gulfport and craving sushi, it's worth a visit.

The sushi was pretty good, just not as flavorful as I remember it. The ginger dressing for the salad did not taste like it had ginger in it at all. It was more of a vinaigrette dressing - so that was pretty disappointing. My son and his girlfriend got the Miso soup and neither one of them liked their soup. My daughter got chicken tenders and fries (she isn't quite into sushi yet, or seafood at all). She said they were the best chicken tenders she ever had. I really wanted the Pebble Beach roll, that has always been my favorite. The waitress said they have been out of scallops for three months. She stated they could go to a grocery store to get them, but their chain restaurant has certain place they purchase their seafood. That was a bit surprising!!! I always thought this was a somewhat local test owned by one person. Maybe it was bought out after COVID???

There is limited seating and if you are dining during a weekend or an evening that falls on a weekend, I would suggest making reservations. Now.....onto the food - since that's what you're here for anyway ;-) We ordered a total of five sushi rolls: two spicy tuna hand rolls and three specialty rolls including Pebble Beach, the Cajun Roll, and the Shotgun. The spicy tuna rolls were wrapped and cut into normal bite-size pieces (which I appreciate) and were probably the freshest sushi rolls I've ever had. Out of the three specialty rolls, I mostly enjoyed the Pebble Beach and Shotgun; but my boyfriend loved all three of them! We had not one single piece left - which also meant no room for any other entrees or dessert; maybe next time! The service was wonderful and the atmosphere was very laid back. They do have a small selection of beer and you can have your own bottle of wine opened at the restaurant for a nominal fee. Check it out...you won't be disappointed!

It's been pretty bad the last two years in a row so this year we decided to try the owner's other restaurant! The Rack House looked very nice upon entry (other than some very dusty barrels which happened to be located right next to our table) and they were playing pleasant ambient music at the perfect volume. We were promptly seated and it didn't take long for our server to get drinks started for us! Most of us ordered waters, but my Mom ordered an extra dirty martini that unfortunately came out as being way more alcohol-heavy than she normally likes, but she didn't bring it up to our waiter. We got the sticky ribs as an appetizer, which the whole table agreed were VERY good. Our waiter was very polite and attentive and brought some free rolls and a variety of butters for us to try as well! My mom ordered the chicken Alfredo pasta while my dad ordered a steak. The pasta was good, but wasn't anything super special for the $23 price tag on it, and sadly my dad's steak came out very gristly and overdone. We told our waiter about the issue and he was quick to take it back to the kitchen to have a new steak made. While we were waiting, multiple managers (or at least what I can only assume were managers) apologized to us about the issue and assured us the new steak would be out soon. Our waiter--accompanied by one of the managers--brought the new steak out, and they waited to make sure it was cooked correctly this time as my dad cut into it. The second steak was an improvement, but it still wasn't very good. My dad didn't want to make a fuss about it and said it was alright. When our check came we were pleasantly surprised to see that they had comped the steak for us. Overall, it was a fairly good experience. The food wasn't terrible, and when there was a mistake the staff was more than happy to correct it. It seems like the people who run the place really do prioritize the guest experience and want people to be happy with the food they're paying for! I'm hoping it's just an unfortunate coincidence that their food just didn't measure up to the price tag this time, but it's difficult to say with only having visited once.
