I was amazed to walk in see a VERY large dining room arranged to seem like multiple smaller rooms. We went to celebrate mother's day and a 5 year olds birthday. The menu is very extensive with lots of good options. Our party ordered everything from dumplings, sushi, Yakosobi noodles, to full course steak dinners and very unique appetizers.The prices are very reasonable. The staff including the owner entertained our 5 year old with a very fun song and special instrumentals. A great way to celebrate his birthday (he loves sushi). Solid Japanese restaurant that serves traditional Japanese hibachi menu items. The food was average but the service was great and the prices very reasonable. First time in my life I didn't finish my sushi meal. I am a huge sushi lover , usually I take my business to geaux fish for when I when I order takeout. However this time I decided to try this place out for the first time since the hurricane. I paid 20$ for the sushi deluxe dinner. My miso soup was not brown but almost no black with no tofu or seaweed expect one piece. It tasted like straight soy sauce , so salty I think I would have to go to the hospital for how much sodium is in that. As for the "crunchy roll" that comes with it it's just fishy imitation crab. I wish I could've aten more but there was a short black hair in it. The sashimi was sliced so thin. For 20 dollar I had way higher expectations. What a shame. read more

Went today for the first time and the food was very subpar. We ordered a very large amount of food - appetizers, sushi, as well as multiple hibachi meals. Appetizers were great we had edamame, snow crab salad, squid salad and the seared tuna slices (I forgot what that's called lol) - all were very good. We ordered 3 sushi rolls as well and they didn't come out until after we were halfway done with our hibachi plates. We also didn't get 1 of the 3 we had ordered. The rolls tasted good but they were falling apart (no big deal it all goes in and comes out the same). All four of our hibachi meals were COLD and very bland flavor. It tasted like not a single spice or seasoning was used at all. We all got steak and then 3 shrimps and 1 chicken with the steaks. All of the steak was extremely tough and hard to chew. Shrimps were dry and not flavorful at all and the chicken was cold as well and couple pieces were undercooked. The service was great aside from the forgotten sushi roll and the summer breeze cocktails were great as well. Everywhere has their off days, but for four entire entrees to all be cold and cooked poorly is sad :/ We will definitely give it another try though just to see if our one bad experience was just someone's off day:) read more

Their food was okay. Big portions a little pricey. Noodles and rice were okay not enough egg. Very little chicken and steak on plate (filet mignon). Customer service was great though. *UPDATE* After writing the review below and a more trips to Kampachi, we realized we only had these issues when we had one specific waitress. It got to the point that we would call ahead of time and ask if she was working, and if so, we'd go somewhere else. After a few more weeks it seemed like she was no longer employeed there and since then we haven't had any issues with the food or service. Kampachi is definitely are favorite restaurant in the Thibodaux/Houma area. *ORIGINAL* We've been to Kampachi a few times and enjoyed the food although with a simple improvement, the food could be really really good. My problem comes in the service. Once the food is prepared, it sits at the sushi counter until the waitress finally notices it's ready and decides to bring it to the table. There doesn't seem to be anyone expediting or letting the waitstaff know the order is ready. It's not unusual for our crab salad, rolls and fried foods to sit, slowly dying, on the sushi counter for over 10 minutes while our waitress meanders around the restaurant. If the restaurant is busy, I could understand, but at times we were 1 of 3 couples in the entire place and our food just sat there. Getting a timely drink refill is also rare, even when we can see our waitress standing around doing nothing. With a simple improvement in service, they can become the best sushi place in the area. read more

This is my favorite sushi restaurant close by. Although they're now closed on Monday's, Kampachi truly is tasty. I usually order the shrimp shumai and a sushi roll. The miso soup has a good bit of tofu bites in it and they're sake is great hot or cold. Java hi is located in a separate private area so it's great for larger groups. The TimTim roll is a local Favorite. I definitely recommend if you're visiting and craving sushi or hamachi. read more

Hi, who are reviewing this. I went with my mom to this restaurant. We order two bento boxes to eat. The rice was cold, and the box food wasn't cooked. When we got our drinks which was so tea. The tea said "great value tea". What kind of restaurant serves there customers store bought Walmart tea??? My mom said the food wasn't good and I agree with her. So we aren't going there no more. No Wi-Fi! You always lose at least one star for that. On my first visit I had the egg rolls which were very good. It came with four different types of sauce. They all had their unique and nuances but I think I like the oyster sauce best. For an entrée I ordered the steak so be yucky from the back of the menu. It's seem to be a good price point. It had a decent flavor but the steak was overcooked. To call it steak was really exaggeration. It was more like him I sliced beef. Overall I wasn't terribly impressed. The low score is not reflective of the food part of the restaurant but the entire dining experience. I realize that Thibodaux is not an upscale dining hot spot full of movers and shakers in the world of cuisine, but quality service should be the standard at every sushi place that changes 10+ for a single roll. The service was abominable. The server had dirty fingernails. I watched the appetizers sit on the sushi counter for 10 minutes before it was brought to our table and it was cold. We had to ask for straws multiple times and then they were just thrown on the table. Weeks later, and I am still waiting for my hot tea. You would have thought the server would have noticed something missing since I asked three times and I was one of three people at a table and the only one with out a drink. The restaurant was not crowded and we were seated at one of those really long booths with tables in front of them. I'm not sure why they decided to sit one of the only other tables in a mostly empty restaurant right next to us. Some of the rolls were very good. They were not arranged exceptionally artfully, but they were tasty and held together well. It was just so hard to enjoy due to the poor service. read more

I live in New Orleans but had a chance to visit this establishment fairly recently. Very clean and Huge/open concept interior. The bar, Hibachi and regular dining areas all have ample spaces. Seemed perfect for large parties for any occasion. What I liked the most about this place was the service and price point. I believe the owner himself served for our table but the food came out pretty on timely manner and he was very attentive, making sure everything was according to our request. About the price point, I think this was the best bang for a buck Japanese place I have been lately. However, the affordable price tag did not jeopardize the freshness/taste of our food. Everything was very good. We split a chicken Bento box and had an extra soup (Nana's). Both soups were good. I am not one for Japanese food and sushi, but i love the Pretty Mama Roll and the Shrimp Hot Plate. The Japanese Ribeye with their signature steak sauce is the best that you will get from any Japanese Restaurant. We enjoy hibachi dinners, but we were disappointed with the hibachi chef here. Our vegetables were burnt, literally burnt and still served to us and the chef actually forgot to cook a chicken for one petson with our group. If you want a better hibachi experience, Geaux Fish is my choice because the chef is always entertaining, cooks to perfection and the chef is consistently good at his craft. I don't usually give a better choice of restaurant in another restaurant's review, but the owner is the same at both places. read more

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! These People will ROB YOU!!! These people are the saddest excuse for not only a Japanese restaurant but a steakhouse. This is the 26$ "10oz" ribeye. Easily 50% fat and flatter than the white girls ass ordering a pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks. The managers excuse was that the "fat give it more flavor" he barely spoke English and I guess thought I was a fucking idiot and didn't know that this wasn't 10oz. Refused to take it off of my bill and said 10% discount was all he could do. This is the size of a steak at a Waffle House not a restaurant that is titled a steakhouse. The only other steak offered was through hot plate and hibachi. The other half of my party ordered hibachi. They still didn't give you an amount of food worthy of the price. If you eat at this place you are robbing yourself. Server was polite but didn't attend or check on our table nearly enough and unless she had 50 tables in The back was no excuse. I have attached a photo of what a 10oz steak should be and what a Waffle House steak is which is 8-10$. I know your going to say it's a Japanese restaurant but it is claiming to also be a steak house. I will make sure everyone I know doesn't even think about coming to this place. It's tacky and cheaply decorated and does not have the walk or the talk to have these type of prices. Which I would have had no problem with had the quality been up to par. We usually don't have a problem with this place but tonight left much to be desired. We order steamed dumplings as an appetizer and they came out at the same time as the soup and salad. They were horribly over cooked and mushy and sitting in a puddle of water. I don't know if was the fault of the server for letting it sit too long or the kitchen for steaming too long. Not a very consistent place! Ordered hot sake, received cold sake. Ordered salmon tar tar with no spicy mayo and mayo was on it. I am allergic to spicy mayo so I can tell at first bite that it was on there. Chef argued that it wasn't, but I know after a start Itching that it is. Then ordered 2 types of sashimi one came 3 pieces the other only one. When I asked why? their response was the one piece was larger than the 3. Service was great. Paid $2.00 for a watered down coke. Had the snow crab salad. It was delicious!! I didn't enjoy the clear soup. I didn't find it had any flavor. I also had Kampachi roll.
