Jireh is a pretty lowkey spot that is easy to miss as you walk down the block. It doesn't have an enticing storefront that makes you want to go inside. The food however, is a different story. I finally decided to try this spot with some friends after hearing about it from my barber. There are certain items here that I would most definitely come back for and that has got to be the arroz con leche, plantains, and the carne asada. First off the arroz con leche was just the right amount of cinnamon sweetness and viscosity from the rice. A perfect hot drink for those cold days. The plantains were surprisingly much better than a lot of other places due to its crispy texture complimented with the creamy white sauce. Lastly the carne asada with rice and beans that my barber recommended. Usually when I order carne asada from a hole in the wall, they always overcook the steak even though I tell them medium rare, but not here! The steak was a perfect medium with a very prominent grilled char flavor. The rice had a yellow-ness to it and somewhat of a chicken flavor which was perfect with the beans. If you love spicy I'd definitely douse it with some of their green chili sauce. We tried other items on the menu as well but those did not stand out as much. I'd say the items I listed are the perfect pair of beverage, dessert, and entree. I definitely have to try their freshly baked breads next time cause the smell is just too tempting!

Everything was excellent, but the paella was the star of the meal my wife couldn't put her fork down. The drinks were cold, refreshing, and paired perfectly with the food. The only downside was the service at the front. The host seemed a little unfriendly, which wasn't the best first impression. Thankfully, the manager stepped in, was very welcoming, and seated us in the back, which ended up being the perfect spot for a quick bite and a couple of drinks. Overall, the food and drinks definitely outweigh the small hiccup at the beginning. We'll definitely be back for happy hour again.

For 3 people we ordered: the calamari, a lobster roll, a potato side dish, a small vegan paella and a chuzo salad. The food was good but not great - the calamari was nothing special, the lobster roll was a little over salted with the fries not fried enough, the potato dish had texture and the toppings on it had spice + acid, the salad was simple but refreshing, and the finally the vegan paella was well seasoned, strong tomato flavor in the rice and the vegetables were nicely charred. The ambiance of the restaurant felt summery, it was a little humid with a slight wind that evening and they had all doors open allowing the breeze to flow through their space beautifully. The biggest let down was their service. For a weeknight at prime dinner hour and not a very crowded night, it took an hour for our food to come out from the kitchen. I noticed another party, who arrived after us, was served their food prior to us. I wished our waiter updated us on the food without my having to ask first.

That set the tone of attentive service, which continued throughout an exceptional meal in Bath Beach. This area is busy, in a locals doing their thing kind of way. It's a real neighborhood, and La Chacra is a great reason to check it out. We initially had decided on ordering the Combo La Chacra, which consists of a whole rotisserie chicken, yellow rice with red beans, an avocado salad, an order of salchipapas, and an order of maduros. We added an extra half chicken, and thought "that's a wrap". However, there was an appetizer special of thinly sliced octopus prepared Peruvian style that needed to be ordered too. The service was excellent. Not overwhelming, but just right. Dishes were cleared, napkins replaced, straw wrappers taken away as soon as they hit the table. It's not something that I'm used to writing about, but needed to be said. And then, the food. It was outstanding. Compared to both the basic, and the high end Peruvian restaurants that I've been to throughout the city, La Chacra is far and away the best. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and felt intentional. Nothing was just thrown on a plate. As full as we were, and we were quite full, there was no way that we were leaving without trying something from the desert menu. Another wise choice, as both the flan and the tres leche cake were fantastic. To wrap this one up, this spot is a solid five stars. The prices are very reasonable and the food, service, and charming atmosphere will have us returning soon.

We didn't have a reservation, but we went the day after a snow storm so it was pretty quiet. At first we were the only customers, but they slowly filled up during our meal. I would describe the inside as 'rustic cute'. It feels very cozy with the exposed brick, wooden tables, and soft lighting. For food we each did the Prix Fixe which lets you choose an appetizer, entree, and dessert. For appetizers we got the Chileatole and the Anticuchos. For entrees I got the Grass-Fed Skirt Steak and my boyfriend got the Pato en Mole Poblano. For dessert we both got the Bread Pudding. I thought the Prix Fixe was a good deal for the quantity and quality of food. Everything was prepared fresh and tasted delicious. Favorite bites were the Chileatole soup and the Skirt Steak. Our server was super friendly and approachable. Overall it was a really good experience and I would definitely return the next time I'm visiting the area.

It's a very casual, cafeteria-style spot with a semi-open kitchen, but don't let the simplicity fool you -- the food is incredible and the staff here is friendly and patient. The highlight of the experience is the small buffet that features a variety of freshly-made Latin cuisine -- including pulled pork, chicken and beef stews, and other traditional Latin entrees and sides. You can build your own plate by selecting one or more entrees and sides - which are priced accordingly. As a 'gringo' who wasn't entirely sure what everything was, I really appreciated them taking the extra time to explain all the different options and give me their honest recommendations. The counterstaff is bilingual and were pretty patient with my elementary school level Spanish vocabulary and grammar. I ended up going with the pulled pork platter with two sides ($7) and it was terrific -- the perfectly seasoned and tender pork, black beans and rice, and macaroni salad were delicious and very filling. You can tell they use fresh ingredients, and the portions are very generous for the price. If you're looking for authentic, home-style Latino food in a laid-back setting, this is the spot! PRO TIP #1: Bring a bottle of wine or beer from home to enjoy with your meal. Sazon Latino is a BYOB establishment and does not serve alcohol. PRO TIP #2: Sazon Latino offers free off-street parking in a small lot behind the restaurant and there's plenty of free on-street parking on Main Street.
