It's a very casual, cafeteria-style spot with a semi-open kitchen, but don't let the simplicity fool you -- the food is incredible and the staff here is friendly and patient. The highlight of the experience is the small buffet that features a variety of freshly-made Latin cuisine -- including pulled pork, chicken and beef stews, and other traditional Latin entrees and sides. You can build your own plate by selecting one or more entrees and sides - which are priced accordingly. As a 'gringo' who wasn't entirely sure what everything was, I really appreciated them taking the extra time to explain all the different options and give me their honest recommendations. The counterstaff is bilingual and were pretty patient with my elementary school level Spanish vocabulary and grammar. I ended up going with the pulled pork platter with two sides ($7) and it was terrific -- the perfectly seasoned and tender pork, black beans and rice, and macaroni salad were delicious and very filling. You can tell they use fresh ingredients, and the portions are very generous for the price. If you're looking for authentic, home-style Latino food in a laid-back setting, this is the spot! I keep passing Sazon. It's survived since my first (and to date only) visit, always packed with people. Still highly rated on every platform. So maybe I had a one-off issue. I finally decided to put it to bed and check back in. Still no clear way to know what you're getting or how much you'll pay. But I can now help - What they call a "buffet" is really just the trays where you pick what you want to load on your plate. A buffet with meat and 1 side is $7.99. Add a dollar for each additional side. Add a few dollars if you want two meats or double meat. So with that pricing in mind, you can mix and match what you'd like. And it's still a great value. I don't know what tasted stale last time, but the two I had this time - the stewed chicken and their sausage - were both great. The sausage carried a little bit of heat to it, and they threw in hot sauces for the chicken (they asked!). I had yuca fries and they were wonderful as I let them marinate in the stew. I love coming to Sazon! The people are so nice, the food is cheap, and, most importantly, has that "homemade" taste I love so much! Their estofado, fried chicken, and the pernil are my go-tos. Wow, I'm so glad I gave this place a shot. It wasn't far from my hotel and I was craving a hole in the wall option that would be a place to remember. From the moment I pulled into the parking lot, I was excited to see what they had to offer. Do not judge this place by the cover! I was quickly greeted by a friendly employee standing behind a row of amazing food. I told him it was my first visit and he was so helpful. He took the time to explain how it worked and made some recommendations. I worked my way down the line and was out the door in 5 minutes. The food was absolutely fantastic. It was so authentic and fresh and reasonably priced. I couldn't complain about anything I received except I'd maybe ask for a few more sauce packets next time. Really decently inexpensive pricing (around $6 to start and $1 additional for each side addition so 3 additions will bring a dish to about $8) Let's talk flavor: Roast chicken - leg quarter that was moist, fell off the bone soft and just the perfect amount of flavor. Ordered that with a side of rice, fried yuca and beans. The pork chop was tender and easily fell off the bone with a side of plantains, rice and beans. Pulled pork (pictured) had the right portion of veggies mixed in but I think of all of these, my favorite is the roast chicken. The beef empanadas ($1.50) were crispy, non greasy and yes just the right flavor. I'm happy with todays meal. So much so that I forgot to take photos of the other items. Maybe next time! I was in the mood for Latin mood (seems to be a trend lately) and decided to visit Sazon after seeing such great reviews. It was around 3pm on a Thursday; it wasn't busy but there were people trickling in and out. I had never been there before so the worker was super friendly and explained to me how it works. I got a Regular Plate (~$8) which comes with 1 entree and 3 sides. For the entree, I got Roasted Chicken and for the sides, I got yellow rice, black beans, and plantains. I also added a Beef Empanada (~$2). The roasted chicken was super juicy and literally fell off the bone! It was that tender. There was plenty of rice and beans to go with the chicken, so you will definitely be pretty full after this. The plantains were crispy, sweet, and not enough. I wish there were more of them!! The beef empanada had the right flakiness, texture, and flavor but it just didn't seem fresh. It also came with a hot sauce but I could've gone with or without it. I totally understand why Sazon has such great reviews. They provide a whole lot of great food at a reasonable price, you can't go wrong! So we finally got to try this place on Saturday for an early dinner. It was pretty empty when we got there, so we had time to figure out how to order. When we got to the counter, we were asked if it was our first time - and when we said it was - another woman came over to assist. I believe she probably spoke more English. She explained that a meat and three sides is $7, and so we decided to go with that. I had the pulled pork (pernil) with yellow rice and beans, along with fried sweet plantains. My partner had the fried chicken with the same sides - and he ordered a chorizo empanada. Everything was really good. The pico de gallo helped the pork with a bit of acid. I also added a bit of hot sauce and some pickled jalapenos to mine :) I tasted the fried chicken and the empanada - they were both really good. We especially enjoyed the crust on the empanada - not too crusty, not too soft - perfect! We'll come back soon to try something else - everything sounded really good. (We didn't really get a good look, because most items were covered in plastic wrap - so not very appetizing to look at.) read more
