If you are looking for a dental practice which you can trust, to care for you and your family's dental needs, not just in terms of the work they do but in terms of what you are told has been done against what in actual fact was done, please read on. I am talking about TRUST. If you cannot trust your healthcare provider, and sadly these include dentists, all is lost. If you are at the point of looking to choose a dentist for your family please keep looking and do not stop here. Please read my own first hand experience of Dr Kim. The information which I found out, and I am now sharing with you, is quite amazing. I shall make this as brief and concise as possible. I was directed to Dr Kim by another "Dr" who turns out to be an associate of hers or vice versa. He said that she was an expert, however he did not explain an expert in what area. I had to find this out for myself and as it turned out her expertise was in the area of purloining your money. If you do not believe me, please keep reading/ Now before any of you Dr Kim fan club folks start jumping up and down, just read the following. I am a former head and neck cancer survivor and it is of the utmost importance that I receive treatment from any healthcare professional who has experience in dealing with someone like me. I am assuming many who may be reading this have no idea what it is like to go through head and neck radiation/chemo every day for 7 weeks however I will spare you the details. However a healthcare provider should be well aware. After receiving the last of my crowns from Kim, I did not feel that they fitted correctly and they most certainly did not match my other crowns in color. At almost $2K per tooth there should have been no issue. In all I had spent 20K mostly for crowns. I called and spoke with Kim and told her of my concerns. She said that she would call me back. In the meantime I had another dentist take x-rays of my mouth which showed a completely different story to the one I had been told by Kim. My oncologist was becoming concerned at my apparent rejection of these crowns given to me by Kim and he asked me to obtain details of their composition. I showed him my invoices from Kim which clearly showed that I had been given and paid for porcelain/ceramic crowns, or so we thought. The x-rays of the crowns done by Kim showed no evidence of any porcelain and at this point I became very concerned. I called Kim's office and requested a detailed report of what materials were used by the lab who were putting my crowns together. I received no reply. I called again and this time I was emailed a document from Kim's office from the crown manufacturer which was in fact 5 years old and bore no relation or connection to the crowns I was given or of me personally. I called again and told Kim's office that the document which they sent to me in no way referred to me personally or to the crowns which I was given. It was a general document describing various elements of the materials they used and this document was very dated. It was obvious that Kim was hiding something. I demanded to have a copy of the relevant document. In order to obtain these documents I had to remind Kim that she was required by the State to supply any documents or information to any patient who requests it within 14 days or be subject to a fine. This seemed to have the desired effect. I did eventually receive this document which detailed that I was given crowns made of Lithium disilicate glass-ceramic ingot, in other words an Emax crown. Emax crowns are an all-ceramic crown system. There is no porcelain in them which is what I asked for and assumed I received. If I was not given porcelain/ceramic crowns, then why was this shown on my invoices. If I was given Lithium disilicate glass-ceramic ( E-max crowns) then why not show this on my invoice. When I raised the matter with Kim regarding the bad fitting and different color she said, and I quote, "I cannot help you". This was the end of the conversation. So after spending in excess of 20K for crowns which I complained about she chose to do nothing to correct the situation. I have since paid another dentist to remove the crowns placed by Kim. The moral to the story is, if you have had a crown placed by Kim it just may not be what you asked and paid for. read more

October 7, 2020 Dr Kim performed a procedure to protect exposure of a nerve near a receding gum line and tooth. Dr Kim was so gentle administering the anesthesia, drilling & filling it was a painless experience. I did not have any discomfort during or after the procedure. January 2019 Few patients are able to appreciate the precision that goes into the making of a crown, bridge, or dental implant. As a retired dentist, I can. That is why, a couple of years ago, after partially fracturing a maxillary premolar, I set up an appointment at the office of Dr. Jiyoung Kim, a practitioner who, after graduating from USC School of Dentistry, took another three years of post-doctoral training in prosthodontics at the world-renowned program at UCLA. Prosthodontics is the dental specialty in which Dr. Kim is now board certified. I decided that, if I was going to entrust the care of my poor premolar to anyone, it was going to be Dr. Kim. She had the training to create the perfect restoration. I knew she would judiciously reduce the enamel and dentin of the damaged tooth and do so in a way that would minimize trauma to surrounding gingiva and to the tooth's pulp chamber housing its neurovascular fibers -- its supply of nerves and blood vessels. Generating too much heat or desiccating the tooth's dentin during crown preparation can lead to subsequent endodontic problems requiring root canal therapy. I knew Dr. Kim would be careful. I also knew she would create the right amount of slope while shaping my crown preparation -- just enough to provide friction retention for the porcelain-fused-to-gold crown her laboratory technician would later create. All such restorations are cemented to natural tooth structure, but those provided with frictional retention stay in place for decades. I was also confident that Dr. Kim's impression of the prepared tooth would accurately show the most minute details along the sub-gingival margin of her preparation. This would ensure that her laboratory technician's crown would cover every millimeter of prepared dentin and is critically important if one wants to avoid recurrent decay at the margins of a cemented crown. And finally, I knew that Dr. Kim would meticulously analyze and adjust both the static and the dynamic contact points between my porcelain-fused-to-gold crown and the cusps and fossae of opposing mandibular dentition. Dentists refer to these contact points as occlusion. This last step in the process is critically important for dental health. Overall health, too, for that matter. It's been over two years, and I've yet to experience a single problem with the restoration created for me by Dr. Kim, a dentist's dentist. read more

This long overdue review was put off primarily due to the repercussions suffered from the incompetent care received by Dr. Jiyoung (Jean) Kim. Dental care plays an enormous part of our overall well-being, and this reality came forth after several years of profoundly negligent care. A black shadow on a tooth for over two years was dismissed by Dr. Kim as "not a problem". Progressive and increasing flu-like symptoms over this two-year period ensued, which were very scary because I was a very healthy and active individual all of my life. Upon this tooth finally erupting with a painful abscess, Dr. Kim once again dismissed it has "grinding of my teeth" and sent me home. Three months later the dental hygienist in her office observed this abscess and told Dr. Kim it needed to be attended to immediately. The same day I was sent to get further x-rays by an endodontist. Immediate surgery was ordered due to a serious infection. When the tooth was removed, three quarters of bone around the tooth was gone. Bone had to be grafted from the back of my jaw and three dental implants were put in its place. Overall, the infection had taken a toll in the 'over' two-year period and shortly after surgery, my body collapsed. Overall intense body pain and swelling interrupted and left me in a very weakened state. I returned to Dr. Kim to help me through the predicament I was now in. She smiled a lot, and nodded her head a good bit as I reviewed where my health was at this point in time. I explained in depth that I held no ill will about her misdiagnosis (grinding my teeth vs. infection), as I realized people make mistakes and I just wanted to go forward. After the meeting she said she would get back to me. Within a week I received a letter from her, stating that she was dropping me as a patient and my case was "too complicated". There are no words can express the devastation of these circumstances in their entirety. The wealth of social media support through individual reviews plays an integral part for many regarding our challenging health care system. The integrity of the doctor's care is clearly revealed when 'out of the box' challenges present themselves'. It is important that we 'stay connected' as a society and continue to share the good experiences and quality care, along with the incompetent experiences and disconnected communication. TOO many have suffered in the vulnerable states of ill health due to 'misrepresentation and lack of accountability' in the medical system. She did a thorough examination of my bite and explained to me exactly what was wrong and how to correct it. I have followed her advice and everything is working out perfectly.
