The food is good, but overpriced for what it is. The staff is lovely except this one woman who I think may be the gm? She has black curly hair and is actually so incredibly rude it is insane. She has no business working in customer service. I would give this place 4 stars but I'm deducting 2 until they get rid of the women that is representing the company horribly. read more

Bought a 20oz cold brew this afternoon for under $5, takeout. The donuts looked pretty fancy, and I'll have to come back for one next time. Service was good, quick, no problems. They have bar seating downstairs with enough room to work on a laptop. Upstairs seating and more isolated into individual pairs or quads of seats, some very dark (almost pitch black like coders' cubicles). Could be alright to work in, if you needed, but most of the table heights aren't particularly suited to laptop work. read more

I really like this cafe! It usually has a long line with people buying coffee and baked gooods. What did I get? Cold brew Chocolate zucchini muffin Chocolate croissant Everything is very fresh. The muffin is gigantic ! It's even larger than my hand!! And it tastes absolutely delicious. The zucchini crunch adds texture and blends really well with the chocolate ( you don't taste the zucchini). No wonder it's one of the poplar muffins in the shop. Chocolate croissant is very fresh and crunchy. It has a decent chocolate filling that we adore. Cold brew is decent. I like the flavour. I'm down to try other coffee there. I also love that I can use reusable cup there. read more

I really like this JJ Bean at UBC! They have a good selection of food and baked goods ranging from snacks to a full meal, and their jumbo muffins are a favourite. I like the smooth taste of their coffee/espresso and something about their London fog is so dreamy. The food and drinks are very consistent with the exception of the matcha latte which for some reason they very rarely do right - I'd sometimes get a passable latte with just a little bit of matcha clumping, but other times it would be basically just almond milk with little bits of green floating around under the green froth. I've decided it's better to avoid this one here since there's no shortage of decent matcha at other places and everything else here is much more worth the money. The atmosphere in the shop is very positive. Service is friendly and relatively fast. During normal times, they have a little bit of seating downstairs but a much larger area upstairs with lots of different seating arrangements that you can choose depending on whether you're there to study, socialize, etc. The large windows mean the inside is very bright. There's also a large outdoor seating area. read more

I think this might become my favourite place to have a meeting or to study near UBC. I've walked by here many times and never went in because I thought it was just another coffee shop. *Trust me, theres no shortage of coffee places at UBC.* But the game changer was that there is an upstairs to this shop! The upstairs is super modern, there are comfy chairs for people who want to chill by themselves, or small tables for two, or four person tables for group work! I also love the abundance of plants beside their window sill, it makes sitting in the comfy chairs on a sunny day just heavenly. read more

I'm not always in the area near a JJ Bean but for the past few times I've been, I remember how delicious their croissants were so I decided to stop by to pick up a croissant, a berry muffin and an iced latte. It was fairly cheap for all 3 items and for the iced latte the barista added syrup in for me free of charge. The berry muffin was huge and worth the money - it tasted delicious and had the perfect amount of berries and sweetness and was so big I only ate the top and saved the bottom half for later. Now... the croissants - JJ Bean probably has one of the best croissants I've ever had in a coffee shop. They're extremely crispy, flakey, and buttery and is just baked to perfection. I could literally eat 3 of them in one sitting. Their chocolate croissants are amazing too but sold out this time but I also reccomend it. read more

I was so ecstatic that there is a JJ Beans at the UBC campus now. There are plenty of café on the campus, none are as exceptional and consistently as JJ Beans. The staff are friendly, very good service, drinks and food are delicious. My go-tos are their dark roast, and jalapeno cheddar muffin/ chocolate zucchini muffin. The interior of the café is spacious, with huge floor to ceiling windows, allowing natural sunlight comes in. It has a big communal bench on the first floor, and more seating up on the second floors. Second floor also has seating areas that provide more privacy - perfect for studying and meetings. Furthermore, it has ample seating outside the café with bright chairs and tables. There are other coffee shops close to where I work, but I would take the extra mile to come to JJ Beans. read more

I frequent this JJ Bean as I work in the area and have never had a problem before, but was taken aback at an encounter between a member of the staff and a fellow customer. This morning, I witnessed a staff member in blue getting frustrated and audibly sighing as the customer let him know that the food they handed to her was incorrect, and was visibly annoyed that she wouldn't take the food anyway. I can understand being frustrated especially as it has definitely gotten busier with school back and students back on campus, but it is upsetting to see a staff member visibly show disdain at customers. read more

They have so many vegan friendly pastry options!! Yes, fellow vegans, all those decadent coffee shop muffins can now be yours to enjoy. In addition, they sell pre-packaged vegan banana bread loafs, which are massive and that's another story, so you can literally grab and go. In terms of drinks, non-dairy alternatives include oat, soy, or almond for an extra $0.65. Only downside is that it takes a while for the drinks to be ready. There is also no free wifi if you're not a UBC member. read more

Located in the UBC area. I did come here before the Rufus W. show this week. I came to get a simple latte with whole milk and a pump of sugar free syrup. This was a grab and go situation. Good service, as ordered and the prices were like every other location. Great edition to campus when I go to see shows here. read more

Pretty damn good. While the price is at a premium, I believe that this coffee shop is probably the best option on UBC campus available for espressos and well-made coffee. I can't speak for the food personally, as I haven't had any from this location. Unlike some other roasters on campus, the baristas here really seem in control of what they are doing (ie aren't all students looking to get out of there), and can make a range of espressos (I personally always get a latte) consistently with the same, solid taste, and in a reasonable time. Adding upon that is the great design of the location overall, with adequate seating inside and out, this spot is in my opinion the best coffee roaster on campus (definitely more worth your money than the on-campus starbucks, and probably faster as well). read more

After visiting it on a heavily rainy day, I have to say this should be my go-to cafe in UBC area. I ordered a berry muffin and hot chocolate at a reasonable price. Full of juicy berries, the 'very berry' muffin was smooth and tasty. Although the hot chocolate was lukewarm, the flavour was OK, neither too sweet nor too plain. Besides, their service seemed good. I noticed one of their staff would timely go upstairs to clean the coffee table. Hopefully there is more space to sit either downstairs or upstairs. read more

Website said that they were open until 9:00pm I was there at 8:05 to buy beans..(not a coffee). They said they were closed. I'd just driven from Kits, paid for parking.. Both employees were incredibly rude. Not what I've come to expect from JJ Bean... Cannot recommend the UBC location. read more

The staff are very rude and unfriendly. The muffins are so burnt and are nearly black. If you ask for a water with your coffee they are so cheep they make you pay for a cup. Starbucks has better tasting coffee and much better pastries. The manager Miguel is so rude try to avoid him but better yet just go back o Starbucks where the food and coffee is much better!
