Great service - Alexa was great. They have a nice menu. I got 2 hot dogs and fries. Not a fan of the Clevelander , but that's just me, i don't really like chili dogs but i gave it a shot. The manhattan was really good though. I'd probably get the hot dogs fried next time instead of boiled because the buns got a little soggy. Just a recommendation but not at all a big deal. My family and I went into the bar area of Tony's. Alicia the bartender told us to be ready when she came back to order. One of us said " that's not how you talk to customers." She took our drinks poured them out and told us to leave, refusing to serve us. " Just another random act of racism." We were the only black people in the restaurant. So, The understaffed restaurant and the overwhelmed bartender need to understand that money has no color. The owner needs to determine what do they want the face of his/her restaurant to show!!! read more

So sad to see that the "new" menu here doesn't include what made this place amazing: a decent plain dog that I get to top. It's now just another place in Sandusky to get hammered and get generic food. My cheesesteak today was unremarkable in every way. (except that it was wierdly broiled...) The fries and service were excellent as usual so, one star. You'll get better stuff just down the way at Oh Taco, or Daly's. If you want a dog with a cacaphony of toppings they likely will be able to meet your needs. For me, I don't need to go back until I can get a New Yorker plain. Your mileage may vary. read more

We originally sat at the bar and were greeted by a great bartender named, Mason. However, we were treated very poorly by the bartender Tony. Mason brought us our food refilled our water promptly and was a great server. The hot dog was underwhelming as well as cold and our food was taken from our table before it was finished. I am sadly disappointed as I wait and wait to be waited upon. Bartender yelled from bar "What do you want?" Asked for 2 bloody Mary's and they were just ok garnished w lemons and limes. Waited forever for the second drink. Put empty cups at the end of our table... nothing. Finally made eye contact w/ what seemed to be her boyfriend. She again yelled "What do you want?" I'm giving a two star review as the people who I assumed worked there when we walked up to the building were very friendly. We had a large group of 9 people, which we called ahead a couple hours prior to let them know and they were happy to serve us at that time. When we arrived we were seated, but not even given menus for 30 minutes. We didn't even see our server. Finally she came around, handed us menus and told us there were no chicken wings and no food to serve in general besides fried food. I tried to ask what she meant by that but she walked away and we didn't see her again for another ten minutes, or anyone for that matter. We ended up just getting up and leaving. It was strange as other groups next to us had regular food, so I'm not sure what was going on with that. I was really excited to try this place as it seemed super unique! My dad is a burger and fries kind of guy. So finding new places that he hasn't been to in the area is hard. So we decided to try a hot dog place for the rest of us and it did not disappoint! We started with the pretzel bites and they were amazing! Great honey mustard sauce. My mom and sis got the kielbasa and crout which they said was delicious and had great sour crout. I had the smoke house dog which holy cow was that loaded and delicious! Lots the BBQ and the dog was wrapped in bacon and cover in Gouda cheese. This review is for lunch. I stopped in for lunch mid-week... HD stands for Hot Dog and, as Anthony Bourdain once said, "you gotta love meat in tube form." Tony's is basically a sports bar that features a variety of tubular meats. I had the New York style dogs. They were tasty with a satisfying snap as I bit into them. All the goodness of a NYC hot dog cart without wondering how long they've been in that cart. I've visited Gray's Papaya in Manhattan and think the dogs at Tony's are just as good. I'd love to be able to provide a review of the food, but the server was so rude we didn't even bother getting a table. It was lunchtime on Sunday of Labor Day weekend and downtown Sandusky was buzzing. Every restaurant had long waits for tables and for food. We walked into Hot Dog Tony's and saw that there was MAYBE 2 or 3 people working the entire place. There were only a few occupied tables, but they were all covered in food and empty plates. Maybe their bussers called off? Before I could even say a word, a waitress shouted to us 'If you want a table, there's going to be a wait'. I was so shocked at how rude this was. Very good food, great service and a decent beer selection. Had an interesting conversation with the manager about how they like to get in unique beer selections and how they work with breweries and distributors to get excludive "one offs" and experimental selections. It's currently about 3 PM on a Sunday with a couple tables full of people with an empty bar. I'm just back in area so wife can attend baby shower, and I needed a place to eat while I waited. I stood at bar for couple of minutes while bartender and 2 other employees looked at me then proceeded to either talk to one another or roll silverware into napkins. I ended up leaving because it was so awkward and pathetic they there was literally nothing to rate. I've been going in here on the regular since they opened and am happy to say that they've really locked it down. It's been open for a few months now and the kitchen is putting out consistent, delicious food. The beer selection rivals any cooler in town so there's a little something for every palette. And if you have trouble deciding, the bartender is more than happy to make a couple recommendations. They recently introduced a pretty slamming happy hour and I highly recommend the pulled pork nachos. read more

Located on Water Street, the central point of all the fun in Sandusky - you are right by the water and all of the downtown bars within walking distance. Parking is in a free lot across the street (behind the State), or if you're lucky, you can score a spot right out in front. Original menu, lots of options when it comes to alcohol. The pulled pork nachos are TO DIE FOR. Yes, the hot dogs are overpriced, but it's a restaurant! I like that you can get a hotdog wrapped in a low-carb wrap and that they have green beans instead of fries (yum!). The green beans are awesome. They always have a great beer selection on tap (Great Lakes and IPA's) and will let you try them for free! There is never anybody in the restaurant- I think they may need to have some better advertised weekly specials and I would become a weekly visitor. read more

Fun place near the lake. Good kids menu, hot dogs and fried pickles are great. Service is attentive and friendly. The server offered a sample of beer when trying to decide. Great drinks and chili is pretty awesome. Live bands are really a gem for this location such a cute, lively place to be.

I really like H D Tony's food, and it's a very nice local bar, but the service is consistantly bad. Don't get me wrong, they're very friendly when they talk to you, but the bartenders tend to be very slow and disorganized. I never been shown a draft beer menu or a cocktail menu in the dozen times I've been there, and they've never once asked me if I wanted a second drink, even while sitting at the bar. They just let you finish eating without checking on you at all, and then bring you the check. The bar is two-sided, and the bartenders will literally hide on the other side and talk to each other and just completely ignore you from the time your food arrives to the time that they bring you the check. It would be nice to be able to order a second drink, but I don't want to have to get up and walk over to them or yell across the room to get their attention, because I find that to be rude. Overall, their food is great and at a very cheap price point, and the bar itself is very nice, so I will continue to visit, but the bartender issue really needs to be addressed. read more

The first time we went to HT it was delicious, fast service, perfect. Two weeks ago we had a VERY bad experience. It took almost 40 minutes to get a couple of hamburgers. When they arrived, the meat in mine was rancid (YES, RANCID!) and the fries soggy, so I just returned it and asked for the bill. It took a long time to get the bill, then more wait for it to return to be signed. The poor waitress did her best, told us the burger had been taken off the bill, that the manager was coming to talk to us; never saw the manager! I guess he was too busy chatting with the aimless guys at the kitchen... (Every time we looked into the kitchen window, there were three or four guys just grinning at each other, doing absolutely nothing; so, I guess it was not a problem of being short-staffed!) The result is that we will never go back there and won't recommend them. read more
