They were all good and I ended up being in a fruity mood so got the two latter flavors. The blueberry cheesecake was nice and creamy and the pineapple upside down cake ended up not as overly sweet as I thought it would be. It was just right for me. Located in downtown Hudson is New City Microcreamery. This is a large ice cream shop that also sells coffee and tea. We were greeted upon arrival. They have traditional ice cream flavors along with some new ones. I had salted cookies and cream in a homemade waffle cone. One of the best ice cream's and cones I have had. My daughter had cake batter with homemade whipped cream. She loved it. My husband had a vanilla bourbon milkshake and said it was one of the best milkshakes he has had. This is a spacious coffee shop/creamery with many interesting flavors available. They allow you to sample flavors before deciding and I kind of wish I had tried more. I got the bourbon vanilla, which was creamy and definitely representative of both those flavors, and the Mexican chocolate, which I regret getting a little--it was good but nothing really special and the texture was not as creamy. My boyfriend got strawberry and Oreo and both those flavors were great even though I normally don't like strawberry ice cream. The texture of all the ice creams I tried here are decently creamy, but lacking (in my opinion) in some way that I can't really put my finger on. They seem a little "dry" and not as soft to me and that's probably the best way I can put it. The ice cream here was also pricy and portions were not up to par with your standard New England creamery, though I understand that's not what this place is. I am used to being able to get a one scoop or kiddie scoop with two flavors in it and still have the cone or cup be satisfyingly overflowing. Here you have to get two scoops for two flavors. What a huge disappointment. I ordered 2 large shakes - strawberry and cookies and cream. The strawberry shake didn't even taste like strawberries. Either they used the wrong ice cream or it was pretty poor strawberry ice cream. The shakes were very light because they had a lot of air. I've really enjoyed my time at New City Microcreamery! The ice creams are all well made and well flavored. I'll be the first to admit that as much as I love nitrogen ice cream, it became so nichey that so many places were doing it, and not doing it well. But don't worry, New City ain't that. They have it locked down. You'll enjoy any flavor you want and can get them to go in pints and quarts - which I highly recommend! I've tried a few flavors now and the ones I've taken home thereafter are strawberry cheesecake and the vegan chocolate. The strawberry cheesecake is amazing! Creamy, with chunks of real.strawberry and graham crackers - YUM! The vegan chocolate is great, but better in a cone/small quantities. When you get a whole pint, you realize much more quickly that it's not regular ice cream. The coconut is a strong flavor in it. If you're looking for a good time, their affagato is to die for. Great coffee on top of fantastic ice cream? Who can say no to that! I got the affagato with the Vanilla Bourbon ice cream and yup, it's the best pairing you're going to get. There are four flavors if ice cream which, if I see them on the menu, I will almost always order the first time I visit. Two of then were available here, so I ordered them - Mexican Chocolate, and Vanilla Bourbon (FYI, the other two are Butter Pecan and Strawberry Cheesecake). These were on point. The Vanilla Bourbon had the bourbon presence without being overwhelming. The Mexican Chocolate had the expected flavor followed by a nice peppery kick after. I had a chance to sample a few other flavors, and they were equally good, and every flavor I sampled had a nice, creamy, texture. There was a line of about 15 people ahead of me, but the line moved quickly, so the wait wasn't long at all. Just about anything you order beyond ice cream in a cup will be an extra charge here, including a cone. I feel the ice cream is so good on its own it doesn't need anything extra, even a cone. read more

Now the ice cream was out of this world with many tasty original flavors. The Ice cream scoops are ample. I had the Fennel Pistachio ice cream, and it was fantastic and flavorful--sweet and creamy. My review from five years ago still stands. What can I say about this place? I am infatuated! The decor is industrial chic, the staff are friendly and helpful and the ice cream is phenomenal! The trappings don't really matter because the ice cream at NCMC is some of the best we have ever had & my family is constantly in search of the best ice cream in the world. NCMC uses liquid nitrogen to create their ice cream, which results in a smaller crystal thereby creating a smoother and creamier product. You can't go wrong with the standard flavors like strawberry, chocolate, cookie dough, etc. but bypass those and try some of the creative flavors like Blackberry Balsamic-a buttermilk base with a blackberry balsamic reduction swirl, Sweet Corn-all the best flavors of summer, Baklava-exactly what you'd expect, Pumpkin IPA-mind blowing (& I hate all things pumpkin flavored but the server told me to trust her and I did and wow! The only downside is I have to wait until next fall to have it again). The flavors are rotating so try them when you see them, you will find new favorites every time you come here. The coffee ice cream is by far the best I've ever eaten. NCMC is also a coffee shop & I think is part of what makes their's the best. They make their waffle cones from scratch, that is the intoxicating scent that envelopes you when you enter-Yum! The waffle cones are very reasonably price so go ahead & get one, you know you want to! Gravies (liquid toppings) guild the lily in the best possible way-Wild Maine Blueberry, Balsamic, Razzle Dazzle, Caramel, Hawt Fudge & more including seasonal flavors. You can choose from unique Funk (dry toppings) Including the usual sprinkles, golden nuggets, oat streusel, chocolate chip cookie crumbles and more (always more!). NCMC is very allergy conscious, labeling selections so that you can tell what will be "safe" (always double check with the staff to be sure). There are vegan options, avocado ice cream, a variety of different "milk" ice creams (oat, nut, coconut) and they are serious about making sure you can find what will work for you. They went above and beyond to help me create an ice cream cake for a friend of my daughter with multiple allergies. They made numerous phone calls not only to me but their suppliers to be sure that this child could finally having exactly what she wanted for her birthday. Both the child and myself will forever remember the kindness the employee showed us. Do yourself a favor and drive by those chains as well as other mom and pop shops and come get your ice cream at NCMC-your taste buds will be glad you did! Their coffee creations including the usual cuppa Joe, lattes and my favorite, Vietnamese iced coffee are even more reasons to stop by here (though after reading this, do you REALLY need more?!). You might even consider dining at their sister establishment across the street, The Rail Trail (not to be confused with the hiking trails) where you can have some amazing & creative wood fired pizzas or entrées then cross to NCMC for dessert. If you're old enough and cool enough make sure you check out their speakeasy, Less Than Greater Than (didn't even notice it did you?), just make sure you have a reservation and know the secret password. Less Than Greater Than has delicious fusion food, outstanding libations & bartenders and you can top off the night with alcoholic ice cream for dessert.
