It had a panko crust which sometimes I prefer to batter. They were a little bit salty for my taste but ever since I got COVID lots of things have tasted salty so take that with a grain of salt I'm not a tartar sauce guy but this is some great sauce. I feel like later I got a piece of tarragon(?) out of my teeth and reminded me of the herby yummy sauce. I scoffed at first at the chips. Very non uniformly cut but surprisingly all well cooked. I don't know if it's they type of potato but the skin was really off putting. But solid toothsome chips that a splash of vinegar helps a lot. If I end up in a similar position again I'll definitely consider coming back.

Wait was ok they give you a buzzer so you can stroll around the food court. Took about 10 mins not bad. The locally sourced steelhead was a delicious surprise. Tender, juicy fish with crispy breading. Good seasoning. Fries were thicker so not as crispy but still hearty. 3 medium sized pieces of fish. They included ketchup for the fries as well as malt vinegar and tartar sauce for authentic fish dip. Wedge of lemon, too! All in a earth-friendly cardboard box. They take credit just fine. Very convenient location at Carts on Foster just down the street from where I was staying. So I walked back and enjoyed there. If you're staying you could probably cruise over to any local breweries or the bar cart for a beer to complement the fried food. Good time!!!

The crispy chicken nanban with tangy tartar sauce and crunchy red cabbage hit all the right notes. Really well balanced, not too heavy on the mayo, just enough to tie it together. Covered picnic tables were stationed in the center of the beer garden, so you could grab your food and sit down comfortably. Service was very friendly. Portion sizes felt good for the price too. My only wish is that it was a bit easier to eat and that it had more seasoning as the gyoza filling was a bit bland and the egg smaller than I thought it was be. But overall pretty tasty and definitely worth trying. I'll have to come back and try their OG Tokyo Nando sandwich.

Not usually. For a while, my favorite was the Italian pork belly mac from Grassa. Keyword: WAS. I walked into The Smokin' Oak PDX at Cartside and saw people eating BBQ. Something told me to take a look at the menu. Then I spotted the mac and cheese. "How's your mac?" They said, "It's our most popular item." Well, apparently Portland's mac and cheese committee had already spoken. I ordered it with that beautiful sliced brisket, and folks... this combination is straight fire. That brisket was freaking amazing. Smoky, tender, packed with flavor. But then you get a bite of that brisket with the mac and cheese together, and suddenly I'm questioning every mac and cheese decision I've made in my life. Brisket + mac = loaded happiness. I should have thrown some jalapeño on it because that would have taken this thing into another zip code, but honestly, it didn't need much help. And there's a reason this mac is so popular. The Smokin' Oak makes its mac from scratch using a family recipe from Tyler, Texas, and their BBQ is Central Texas style, with their meats smoked over Oregon white oak. So apparently they brought Texas to Portland and then made it everybody's problem. The hospitality was excellent. The cart was clean. The price was right. The people were friendly. And the food? Gold medal. I'm not going to sit here and declare this the best BBQ in Portland because I haven't eaten every piece of brisket in this city. But the mac and cheese? That's a different conversation.
