I hired this company 8 months ago to remove and replace the concrete stairs at the front of my house. The owner had me believing that he was skilled and knowledgeable in this field and had sold me on his ability to create a beautiful set of stairs. I found out soon after that this was not being done correctly. Shortly after the project began there were multiple red flags indicating that this choosing this company was a huge mistake. First was his failure to obtain a permit from the city prior to beginning which, at my insistence, was finally obtained several months later. I called the city building inspector who came out and failed it. The measurements of the steps and risers were not to code and the railings were not installed properly and were not firmly secured. It's apparent that while he may have plenty of experience with chimneys, he doesn't seem to have it with stairs. The second red flag was with not using the proper ratio of antifreeze in the concrete mix. I found one empty gallon jug. The stairs froze. Third, there was no clean up done after and left concrete splatter all over the landscaping on both sides of the stairs, in addition to concrete splatter on the vinyl siding and storm door. This mess was not cleaned up for several months. The first set of stairs looked awful with streaks and stains and I asked if he could fix this. He sent his crew to spread mortar on the surface of the structure which made it look even worse. Those railings were taken away without explanation and brackets welded on. He had also cut off a center post on one railing without my permission. They were returned and installed with broken welds and ended up rusting just days later. This rust leached into the concrete. He blamed it on the railings saying they were rusty to begin with. They were not. They were inspected carefully before i bought them. It was the improper welding chemical reaction that caused rusting. I was coerced into purchasing another set of railings because the ones I had originally purchased were now unusable. I did not choose the railings that were purchased as replacement. His worker found them online in just 5 minutes and both he and the owner assured me that they were to code. They were not to code. They were much too low. They also failed inspection. The owner did not offer to reimburse me for either set of railings. His crew also destroyed an outdoor carpet they used with out my permission while they mixed concrete. He used muriatic acid, not once but twice, after failing to clean the wet concrete splatter on the siding, kick plate and door. This muriatic mixture in a 5 gallon bucket was discarded into my hedges, twice. This resulted in killing my well established hedges. He also cleaned his equipment on my lawn which also killed that. I now have big yellow areas of dead grass. He offered no apology or attempted to do anything about the damage to any of my property that was destroyed. The aluminum kick plate was not replaced and no J channel was put in under the vinyl siding he cut. The entrance to my enclosed porch has damage to the wood threshold from muriatic acid. He cut out a foot of asphalt in my driveway stating that he had to remove it to make 4 stairs instead of just 3 because it had to be 4 as that was code to create the second set of stairs. The width of the stairs is much wider than it was meant to be due to the fact that he couldn't chisel out the majority of concrete from the first pour. Every time he came here he did more damage. The last time he was here he broke my hose and sprayer and put duct tape on it without even telling me he broke them. Clearly he has no regard for homeowners property or providing a quality product. This is not the way this project should have been done. The lack of integrity, workmanship and professionalism has caused me alot of stress and anxiety during this 8 month period of time. I am currently pursuing this matter with every possible avenue in hopes of compensation and resolution. It's apparent that he has no intention of doing anything to rectify the situation. He was paid in full in December. He owes me for replacement of my hedges, 2 sets of railings, replacement of grass, compensation for ruined outdoor carpet and to pay someone else to fix the damage to the stairs and installation of, yet, a third set of railings I had to purchase. He even had the audacity to have my access removed from the building depts website when I was trying multiple times over the course of several months to see if the permit had been issued yet. He told me he did it by accident when I addressed this with him. Everything I have stated can be backed up with correspondence. And the photos speak volumes. I hope that if even one person takes the time to read this, it prevents another homeowner from the horrible nightmare I have endured.
