Jeff is terrific! There was a leak in our kitchen which we knew was coming from the only full bath, one flight up. We thought it was the shower. Jeff came in, gave us an estimate for replacing the kitchen ceiling, and we agreed to go ahead, knowing that whatever would have to be fixed in the upstairs bath would cost extra. My husband and I were honestly expecting it would cost another 200% or more. Jeff found the leak (it was the clean water source for the toilet tank and not the shower at all), showed us the problem, and went ahead and fixed it. He redid the kitchen ceiling and painted it, all with minimal disruption to two people who work from home. And the extra cost? My mom who is on 18 medications ask that I help her secure someone reliable, this was not true- I conversed with him on the phone, he can Not even Hold One commitment as we are trying to navigate post flood during a (((time sensitive))) recovery His timeline was not accurate and after 3 times we figured he could not be bothered to make a genuine effort to make good on his wrongdoings Unfortunately we were brushed off consecutively, he must be overly very preoccupied with non stop marathon projects around the clock, at least that's how he comes across Good, stay busy but you jeopardizing clients in between, always has its fair share of bad publicity above all adverse outcomes as you can see not much gained or accomplished. Renovating the only full bathroom in the house was not something I was looking forward to, even though it was embarrassingly ugly and barely functional. I put it off for years until it became clear that it could no longer be avoided. My husband and I began interviewing contractors in the fall of 2022. I should mention our home is constructed in cement and stucco which is atypical for New England and requires craftspeople that are experienced, knowledgeable, creative and flexible. After interviewing half a dozen contractors I was beginning to get discouraged. The first two companies that came to view the project turned down the job because they felt they did not have enough experience with such an unusual cement house. The following two told me I would have to move out of my home for a month because they couldn't make the toilet or shower available to us in the evening during the remodel. And then there were those that dismissed all our input and were not interested in learning about how the walls were constructed. They were offended by our attempt to provide them with some guidance. They didn't want any homeowner input on what would be required to execute the job correctly. Finally, one went even as far as telling me he could not guarantee that the built-in bench I really needed in the shower could be made to be water-tight!!! By chance I noticed JL Stone Inc. renovating a neighbor's home and decided to reach out. My phone call was promptly returned and an appointment was scheduled for a time that was convenient for both my husband and I. I received a confirmation text the day before the appointment and he showed up on time. To our delight the contractor did not seem intimidated by the construction of the house. He listened to all our input regarding the construction of the cement walls, he took lots of notes, and he reassured us that for most of the renovation he could arrange it so that we could use the toilet and shower in the evenings. His estimate was very competitive. I also appreciated that in the end there were no unforeseen expenses because the written quote detailed all the materials that would to be provided by JL Stone and all the finishing fixtures that would be the homeowners' responsibility. JL Stone began working on the agreed upon date. He meticulously sealed the hallway, (including furniture, mirrors and light fixtures) with plastic coverings to ensure everything was protected and stayed clean during the renovation. At the end of every work day he scrupulously vacuumed the bathroom and hallway, reconnected the toiled, and made it so we could use the shower. He worked patiently to give us the function and design of the bathroom we had envisioned. He put great care into every detail. He came up with functional, creative solutions to every challenge that needed to be addressed during the renovation and showed great patience and flexibility. You should hire Jeff Jeff completed a master bedroom suite (with bath) + additional hall bath renovation from August-October 2023. We had a good idea what we wanted before signing the contract, but were pretty open to ideas that would save cost or improve aesthetics. Jeff stepped in and was an awesome partner during this build. He'd get to a feature we hadn't fully discussed (ex: shower niche size and placement, tile edging preferences), listen to our preferences and then make recommendations based on his prior work (with example pictures). This happened almost daily and was a huge help that kept the project moving. The quality of work was exceptional, his communication was great and he was flexible to minor changes within the scope of work, often recommending them himself. Asterisks that I'm framing as a positive, but are inherent to working with an independent GC instead of a construction company: *The work took a month longer than original quoted. He wasn't able to subcontract some of the work he'd been planning and had to do it all himself. He kept us updated so this wasn't a surprise as it was happening. *There were some whoopsies along the way. There was water damage due to a valve leak and a toilet drain blocked with construction debris (we think). In all cases Jeff acknowledged the issue, assured us he'd handle it as part of the job and ultimately fixed the problem before final payment. We just had to be patient as it wasn't going to get fixed next day. read more

Jeff is amazing! He remodeled our whole kitchen and dinning room removing a wall, changing tiles, back splash and adding new kitchen cabinets. In the middle of the process we asked him to work on the powder room and he was very flexible and got that done too. I will be calling him again for our next project, he is a reliable and calm person to have in your house during this type of project, every day before going home he cleaned our kitchen and always worried about leaving us with a functional space during the project. read more

I had an emergency where I needed insulation and drywall installed within a week. JL Stone was very responsive, came when he said, did an excellent job, and did it quickly. It's always nerve wracking to hire contractors. I read the reviews here and took a chance on Jeff Stone. He turned out to be a great choice. He promptly handled all the paperwork I needed for approvals from my condo association and the building permit I needed for removal of a load-bearing wall in my condo. He showed up on time, kept the dust at a minimum and completed the work on schedule. HIs finish work was above and beyond what I expected and he was personable and professional during the project. JL Stone completely renovated my 1935 bathroom, bringing the plumbing and electrical fixtures up to code, and making an accessible bathroom that will serve me well into old age. To expand the bathroom into adjacent closet spaces, Jeff demolished and reconstructed the walls and floors. He replaced the old tub with a handicapped-accessible shower, installed a comfort-height toilet and adapted a new sink to fit my short stature. He mounted shelves to store bathroom supplies and towels next to the shower. His tiling, painting, and carpentry work was meticulous. Jeff arrives exactly on time, and except for the plumbing and electrical subcontractors, does all the work himself. He carefully evaluated the project initially, but also made necessary changes to counter unanticipated conditions that the demolition revealed. His easy-going, can-do attitude and extensive experience made him a pleasure to work with. My project came in under the initial quote, due to savings on the deliverables. This review is long overdue. My husband and I hired Jeff to redo our sunroom and make it into a playroom for our baby. He was not only very reasonably priced, but did an excellent job. He built walls (originally had all sliding glass doors), installed windows and framed them beautifully, and put in hardwood floors. I cannot even convey how beautiful the room looks now. We get so many compliments on it. He even had his electrician come out and fix our front porch light while he was finishing the room up. He was quick to communicate and delivered great work. Jeff Stone is a great contractor and a really good guy. Last fall, Jeff completed what for us was a sizable renovation project. We had him gut 2 adjoining bedrooms on the second floor to make one large bedroom, including removing the existing ceiling to create a vaulted ceiling. The job required installing a new ridge and rafters, some new walls, new windows, relocating a thru-the-wall ac unit, and new ceiling fan and lights. And of course, new carpeting and painting. Jeff is an ideal contractor in so many ways: First, cleanliness. The only way to get to the worksite was through the living room and up the stairs. The place was spotless! Even through the days of sheetrock! Second, Jeff does most of the work himself, so he knows exactly what's going on and is manic about seeing to it that it's done right. Third, he always answers questions pleasantly or discusses things with genuine concern - not many contractors are as patient and understanding. Fourth, Jeff was perfectly willing to go the extra mile to do something right at no charge, even if it wasn't clearly part of the project - and he was very cost-conscious for the few extras that popped up. And finally, he is reasonably priced and gets the job done in a timely way or explains clearly why there might be a delay. There is no doubt I would engage Jeff's services again - I almost wish I had a project coming up. read more

Jeff Stone performed a major renovation of our 1916 home. He gutted our kitchen and moved the powder room to a location in the back of the new kitchen. The construction involved removing two bearing walls, installing custom cabinets, plumbing, electrical work with an upgraded service, painting, tiling, and new appliances. He gutted our master bath and created a new one. In an upstairs guest room, he created a second full bath and laundry room. Also, he added closets to our master bedroom and front hall and installed new windows in all the renovated rooms. In addition, he supervised and helped install a complete new heating and air conditioning system with all new ductwork. As the project continued, he took on other tasks that were not part of the original plan. Jeff is a master builder and carpenter. His knowledge of all phases of construction is impressive. Because he does most of the work himself, the result is consistent and seamless. His attention to detail is extraordinary. As a perfectionist, his finish work is of the finest quality. He adjusts easily to changes in the architectural plan and provides highly creative ideas as to design and construction. He keeps the construction site amazingly clean so that dust and debris is kept to a minimum. Jeff created a fully working temporary kitchen in our dining room by constructing temporary walls and moving our old stove, dishwasher, sink, refrigerator, and microwave into the space. It is clear that Jeff truly cares about the quality of his work. His prices are fair, and he tries to keep costs to a minimum. In fact, he urged us to use a particular heating air conditioning contractor who was a good deal less expensive than those we interviewed. He took full responsibility for the hvac system when he could have used a company we interviewed. Most importantly, Jeff fully completed our punch list and went well above and beyond the contract to help us with every detail of setting up our new home. He was always accessible and reliable. I can't imagine working with any other contractor after this experience and so glad we had the good sense to hire Jeff. He is professional, friendly, and has a great sense of humor. read more

Jeff just completed some work in our kitchen. The project included installing a kitchen sink, disposal, cabinet base, dishwasher, and new counter top. Jeff finished the project in less than a week (he estimated 1 week to completion), and he did a fantastic job. We had full use of the kitchen during the construction, and Jeff kept the kitchen so neat and clean.
