Overall, the finishing of my basement went pretty smooth. The Owens Corning product, drop down ceiling, and flooring are all really sharp. In the beginning everything went fast and smooth with the framing and wall/floor/ceiling install being done within 2 weeks. There were some hiccups with minor imperfections, tv mount in wrong spot, etc. Those were fixed promptly. After that is when I ran into issues with other items in my contract that were not taken care of and the project felt forgot about. Just had some minor electric work, stairs to get carpeted, and didn't receive hanging clips yet. I had to constantly ask about these items and every answer would be "I forgot to ask or send the clips". I eventually got the items completed, but am not happiest that it took almost a month and constant reminding to get these items that should've been scheduled for during the project. read more

High pressure, bait-and-switch, sales pitch. 1. We were given a general quote of ~$60 k for 750 sq ft for the basic space over the phone by Miles when seeing if we were in the same ball park and their 2-3 hour visit made sense. Fine. 2. When the salesman arrived the estimate for the basic space was closer to $85k. We asked to understand the difference and were told that here were "complexities," though no specifics could be articulated. (Side note - we were told Miles, the gentleman who gave us the phone quote, was 'just a scheduler.' Looking at these Yelp reviews, he appears to be one of the owners unless there are multiple very knowledgable people named Miles at the company). 3. The next day - Sunday of MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND - we received an emial telling us if we didn't lock in by Monday morning, the coupons/discounts etc would no longer be available and the price would go up by $10k by Wed. When we asserted ourselves and said that we liked the product but were feeling things were getting too 'pressury' given that no banks are even open until Tuesday and the project wasn't feeling right, we were pretty much told to pound sand "Sorry that things didn't work out. Wish you all the best." 4. This is an added edit after scrolling other reviews. It looks like a very similar complaint about sales tactics and an 'unknowledgeble phone person' was just made in March that Miles said had been addressed. Hmmmm. ;) Bummer, bummer, bummer. We really liked the product and wanted very much to go with these folks including at a premium price. We had our basement remodeled by Lux. we chose the owens Corning product. good-bad-good review: Good: the end product is beautiful, well constructed and we are very happy with it. the bad: the first call to the call center set a very low price expectatio. when we did the initial consult, there was significant sticker shock--not that that was the terrible part. the terrible part was when I discussed the expectation management (little bait and switch) with the regional manager, he argued with me and justified the low ball "order of magnitude" estimate as if it was ME not knowing about the industry and then blamed the person who took the initial call as in "she doesn't know" and "the industry has changed and prices have increased". you'd think they would train their customer service staff on these things. Ultimately, he didn't own it. we scheduled another visit with the manager; the deal maker. She may be able to find savings out initial consultant may have missed. She found savings by cutting the project size by almost half--but it worked. We did however feel pressured as it was a take-it-or-leave-it option. After having interviewed various builders, this one was on par with the next closest so we went with it, even though we weren't fully comfortable with the decision. Finally, the great: as mentioned, the final product is impeccable. The best was our builder. Wish I remember his name. He was pleasant, meticulous, respectful, clean, a master at his craft, kind and cool--a true professional. Sales staff gets a C+. Operations staff gets an A+. read more

I found Lux Renovations through home advisors. We were looking to finish our basement, which has had issues with dampness and wanted to ensure we hired a company that specialized in basements and were willing to pay for a quality product from an expert in basement refinishing. Lux was very quick to return our call, schedule a salesperson to come out and give us a quote. The quote process was very high pressure, " Commit today and receive $6500 discount" for our reviews on all social media sites and of course the offer was only good that day. So here is my review, since I was "paid" for it! SAVE YOUR MONEY! Lux promises an entire specialized crew working FULL TIME. After our project manager came out to review the job with me and of course pick up the first payment, (after we already gave a deposit upon signing the agreement) he explained they were about two months out for a starting date. They did start approximately a month ahead of schedule, late October 2016. After the initial meeting with our project manager, we only saw him when they wanted additional money. We had one (1) worker on site 90% of the time. The other 10% there was a second worker, hardly a full crew! Most days they did not begin until after 11 am and worked until about 6 PM. Luis, our main contractor (and only positive part of our experience) was very professional and did a nice job overall but was very rushed and had to work 10 - 12 hour days at the end of the project as we had already missed our carpet installation date and had to push out furniture delivery twice. The project took approximately 5 weeks to complete, rather than their estimated 2 - 3. The only hold up was an error by the electrician, who installed the air handler improperly. The electricians, carpet installers appear to all be subcontractors (they provided their business cards) of Lux and try to sell you additional services "while they are here". At close to the end of the project (5 weeks), we still had a punch list that needed to be finished, which included replacing siding due to holes in the exterior of our home made by the air handler installation, HDMI outlets hanging out if the walls, trim and paint touchup, damaged threshold on the floor..etc. Our "Project Manager" showed up the day after Thanksgiving, UNANNOUNCED to pick up final payment. This was only the third time we heard from him during our entire experience and he did not even do a final inspection until I pointed out all the unfinished items. Again, each time he showed up was only to get more money. Since there were numerous items that were incomplete or not up to standards, which I had to point out, per our contract, I held back 5% until the "punch list" was complete. Pete Monaghan, our "Project Manager" stated this was an "inconvenience" ( the holding back of the 5% ) because he would have to make another trip to our home to get the final payment! I ended up hiring another contractor after several complaints to the company that still have never been acknowledged, and not being contacted to schedule the completion of the punch list. I did not hear back from the contractor regarding the punch list for approximately two weeks after the final walk through (again only due to my insistence on pointing out the issues). I come from a family of general Contractors and have been around construction my entire life. This company has no idea what "customer service" is and once they get your money....GOOD LUCK YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN! Very unprofessional and very little respect for our home and property. (We have plenty of pictures to back up our review) As for the Owens Corning product itself, I will write another review once we have lived with it for a while. As for Lux Renovations, I will be advising anyone interested in their services to look elsewhere. read more

Corporate Greed I'm an artist and financially devestated by COVID. At the time of signing a contract for a basement remodel I was prepared to to have it done. However things changed drasticly because of COVID and the funds I put aside for the renovations quickly dried up. I had sent several letters to corporate and to the salesman Jason Santos asking to be released from my contract. (Mind you they are holding close to 4K of my money.) Never heard back for the better part of a year until the other day. They now want an additional 20%. as stated in the contract if I reneged. These are unusual and difficult times and one would think a coperation of its size would be more understanding. I Had Lux Renovations come out and do a quote on my basement. The company and salesman were responsive, but their tactics are sketchy at best. My project was a 700sqft open floor plan idea to a new build basement. They quoted me $72,000 without a bathroom and told me the $14,000 additional if we wanted to add one. Anyone with half a brain could determine this quote was wildly inflated. They then offer bogus coupons to slightly deflate the unreasonably inflated price. Huge scam and waste of time! I am upset that they even try this game with people and it looks like some customers go for it. Buyer beware! I am most upset that they would even waste my time and theirs only to insult my intelligence. read more

Love the product, BUT, consider you just spent $90,000 to finish your basement, you ask that they leave you a couple of ceiling and floor tiles in case of damage for the future, they comply. Then when you do the walk through, some of the flooring needs to be replaced. They come a few weeks later and don't bring any product, so you show them the couple of tiles they leave, they use them to do the work. You pay them in full. Then you call the product manager and ask if you can please have a couple of floor tiles to replace the ones they used (they used them all by the way), and over the phone in a belligerent and condescending tone he says, "I don't have to leave you anything!". How's that for customer service after they received their money. And I never did get any tiles, or a call, from LUX about anything. Got their money and BYE!!! read more

We used Lux to install an Owens-Corning system in an unfinished basement. The project turned out beautifully and is very custom to our space- half carpeted, half flooring. Dan was very communicative and quickly took care of some finishing details that are the icing on the cake. It's amazing to be able to reclaim previously unused space and turn it into a heated, well-used room! While we aren't fans of Owens-Corning sales tactics, we went into it knowing what to expect and were able to get the price down to the ballpark that we were expecting, with a return on investment that is 100% worth it. read more

They called a half hour before the appointment to cancel so I had already traveled to meet them. They couldn't call sooner to let me know they couldn't make it? It's held up very well, and the padded walls have been both sturdy and a welcome and unexpected safety benefit when children have slammed into them while playing. Five stars because Hector and Luis, the two contractors who performed the work itself (aside from the electric and flooring), were absolutely fantastic. Lux came out quickly with an estimate, drew up a plan, and scheduled the project. We experienced none of the issues other reviewers seem to have had with this company. Our Project Manager was less sympathetic than we'd of liked after the furnace required work immediately after the electricians left, but Hector and Luis were incredibly transparent and helpful. The finished product itself is amazing. The material they use for the walls is borderline soundproof, the basement is very quiet compared to the rest of the house, and the woodwork (all cut on site, Hector and Luis are the best) is beautiful. I had to fix the Internet cable work the electricians did and I was put off about the furnace, but overall I'm very pleased and the warranty gives me peace of mind. read more

We had our basement finished prior to the pandemic and were so glad we had it done! The work has held up and we used it quite a bit during lockdown. We had them come out a few years earlier with a quote that was over our budget, but when we decided to complete the work, we did our homework and knew what we wanted and what it should cost. Once the contract is signed, it's a different group of people, but definitely do your research on costs and what you want for the sales. Our contractor was great and listened to us as things came up. The people who worked in our house were absolutely gracious and we had a number of issues turn up with the make up of the basement. We also added a bathroom which changed some of the requirements and we could not use the Owens Corning Basement in those walls, but overall are happy with the work and customization they did for us! read more

My wife and I had Owens Corning/LUX Renovations, LLC finish our basement and the process was very challenging. John the Salesman is a great salesman, indeed quite smooth. He told us, "I am there day one then upon completion I come to check everything out." After we signed our papers and handed our deposit check, we didn't ever see him again. He was, however, helpful when we pointed out numerous issues with the quality of work, which he brought to the attention of the Project Manager. The beginning of the construction went smoothly. However, near the two week mark when the basement was scheduled to be completed, the city of Newton would not approve the work due to height requirements and other issues. As such, the project was put on hold. The Brazilian worker did his best with little supervision. We had to ask the project manager to return many times to address quality issues - with some of the ceiling panels that were roughly cut, unsmooth paint job, doors not properly fitted, mismatching heights on the doors, and so on. I felt like I had to manage the workers and point out all of the things that had to be fixed. After all of the back and forth and stress, we do like our basement but it was not without plenty of headaches. We were also asked for the final check before many of the details were completed. We provided this in good faith and they did return to finish the job. However, I would advise anyone working with the company to document all agreements in the contract. While we had captured one requirement within our notes, as it failed to be inserted in the contract, when we reminded them that they had agreed to also paint our back wall, they retracted on their original agreement as it was not part of the signed document. Of the people who have seen our basement, everyone is very effusive in their compliments. Ironically, they focus on the additional work we've had an outside handyman come and do, which LUX Renovations had refused to do! I am glad I didn't go with this company after reading reviews. The sales lady was friendly and knowledgeable up until she realized I really wasn't going to sign the dotted that day, then her whole demeanor changed. She sat at my dining room table and told me "I wanted my cake and eat it too" because I wasn't ready to go ahead with the project that day. I had made it clear to her when she got there, as well as the woman I talked to on the phone beforehand, that our budget may not be in line with what their pricing was, but they insisted on going ahead with the 2 hour estimate anyway. I also told them we were in the very beginning of getting estimates and needed more information before going forward. She clearly didn't want to leave and needed me to tell her we were done in order to leave. She practically rolled her eyes at me and was smug and condescending as soon as she knew it wasn't going her way. It's a shame because the product looks decent, but after that experience, unfortunately it doesn't matter now. I'm not upset that the estimate was above what I wanted, the last number she gave me likely was reasonable, it's the disrespect in my own home, in front of my family, that bothered me. read more

We're not much for writing reviews, but this experience was just too good not to share. On the very first day and on every day since our "downstairs" renovation has exceeded our lofty expectations. We'd had more than a year to dream about the possibilities when Owens-Corning/Lux contacted us. John Flynn from Lux made some modest suggestions about layout after he heard what we were trying to accomplish. Project manager Pete Moynahan took care of countless details from building permits, to materials, plumbing and electrical work and more. Melo's Construction was absolutely tireless and meticulous with all of the construction. Pete said 3, maybe 4 weeks, depending on City Building inspectors and that is exactly how it went. Nothing like our kitchen experience when 3 weeks turned into 3 months! This is a big space (almost 1,400 sf) and it was not inexpensive. The Owens-Corning Basement system technology is great. We are still stunned with how wonderful everything is. It is worth every penny. We've had friends and family say, "can I live here?" It is space we'll share with our children, grandchildren and many friends for years to come. Five stars to O-C, John Flynn, Pete Moynahan and the incredible Melo. Terrible customer service, and based on reading some of the other reviews I'm glad that I didn't go any further with this company. Rep came out to check out my basement space that I needed finishing, and after I told him what our needs were he truly tried to talk me out of doing this. Instead of guidance and agreement, he questioned all my decisions and reasoning for wanting more space in the house. Eventually he did agree to give me a quote on the work reluctantly, so I provided him with some space to work. 30 minutes later he said he was ready to show me a proposal and some design ideas and asked for my wife to join us also. When I proceeded to tell him that she was not available, he angrily got up from the table and as he was rushing to get out of the house, he told me that I needed to make another appointment if I wanted to see the proposal and that it won't be him as he did not want to be part of this process anymore. He then stormed out of the house angrily slamming the door on his way out. This is 100% unnaceptable behavior from a company looking to earn my business, especially on something rather large in aspect. read more

This company has been hounding me for review since they finished and once we paid they did not even come back to make sure we were satisfied so Let me start by saying that the construction went well but we did not get what we originally were contracted for they put the bathroom in different place than we originally contracted for they probably saved $15,000 in plumbing and when we asked to have our stairs redone they came back and wanted to charge us 2000 extra dollars and the stairs are not up to code very very disappointing workmanship was great but if you have any issues do not bother calling the project manager Pete he'll give you the runaround and never call you back I would say if you're going to hire these people be very careful they tell you one thing then do the other I am unhappy because we need it to have our stairwell our steps made bigger so as not to slip I made this aware to Pete and others and I got nothing but the run around also make sure you go over everything before you pay. Once you pay customer service is nonexistent phone calls or ignored and right now we are using a stairway that we paid $50,000 for where we cannot go down without worrying about slipping very very disappointed very very difficult people to work with you're better off going with someone who will honor their business after they have finished the project beware!!! read more

We had our basement renovated by Lux last year. It was a horrible experience and they used the cheapest materials and their electrical contractor did a lousy job,constant issues with electrical.
