Jo is an amazing artist...period! We did a wedding makeup and hair trial a few months before the wedding and she did a great job listening to my ideas. Jo recently did my make up for my wedding on June 22, 2013. From start to finish, Jo was professional, timely, communicative, and did amazing work. We had a trial at her home where she walked me through each step so that I felt comfortable (I normally don't wear any make up). She took photos of my trial so that I could show my family and wrote down all the products she used. We tweaked a few things so that I had a less dark eye for the big day. She e-mailed me frequently to confirm details and was very flexible about coming to the venue and being totally at my disposable. She used totally new mascara brushes and was very clean. To top it off, the final product was AMAZING! I got SO many compliments about how I looked like a movie star :) I was totally transformed into a beautiful princess but my uncle (who is very aware of these things) commented that it didn't look "caked" on--it just looked totally natural--Like I always look like a movie star! I had the pleasure of meeting JO last Sunday. My friend, the bride, found her-- loved the way she did her hair and hired her to do all of our hair for the wedding. Seven girls in total to be ready by 10ish in the morning. We started at 5:30AM! I'm a morning person so totes have no complaints being the first one up. I had given the bride pictures of how I wanted my hair for the wedding, all from Pinterest. The bride wanted all bridesmaids to have their hair down and curled. Simple but I wanted more. I have super thin, long hair. My request was a side braid, tied off at the side with curls. There are so many different styles of braids and curls. I really liked the one that started off at the crown but after discussing the pictures with JO, we decided on just a side braid, tied and curled. I loved the way it turned out-- Exactly what I wanted! And it stayed all throughout the day! And trust me I had a long day, remember I started at 5:30 AM. JO was really friendly and nice. Kept a conversation and didn't ramble-- you know some people are like that. She made the experience comfortable and quick! Gotta love someone that does just what you want and not take more than an hour. And I had long hair! She was clean (her work space wasn't all crazy and messy) and well prepared. I highly recommend Jo for hair and makeup, especially so if you are Asian! Not all makeup artists understand know how to do makeup for Asians without making it overly dramatic or unnatural. I don't wear makeup on a daily basis, so it's important to me to still feel like myself and not like a person with a mask on. I have mono-eye lids and Jo's done my eyes the best out of the few makeup artists that I've tried. She has a mono-eyelid herself, so she definitely knows how to handle it! I was MOH at my sister's wedding in March 2012, and Jo did the bride and BM's makeup. I was so impressed that she made everyone feel so comfortable and at ease while she put on our makeup. Jo's easy to chat with and she asked questions, listened, explained and created a look that we'd be comfortable and happy with. I appreciated how she made me feel like a real person, not just a face or client. She did an amazing job and I looked the best I ever had, even better than at my own wedding! All the bridesmaids loved her and her work too. When I was asked to be a bridesmaid at a friend's wedding for Sept 2013, guess who I suggested? I was so happy that my friend went with Jo to do her and some bridesmaids' makeup and hair! Jo knows wedding mornings are busy and we're usually pressed for time, so she works very efficiently. She put up my hair in no time at all! I just let her do whatever she wanted since I had no particular do in mind. She did a curly side-ponytail, that looked really cool. I'm so glad I kept looking and found Jo instead. She was such a cheerful and calming person to have around when you are getting ready for the big day. Jo did my makeup and hair for a wedding I attended in October, 2012. I know, I know...it took me forever to write this review. But it is obvious that the great experience lasts to this day...and beyond. I had had severe adult acne which left my face with so many scars. On top of that I had quite a few dark spots. I was amazed how Jo made my skin look flawless. I came to her with an idea of a retro makeup in mind. I like Dita Von Teese makeup style and would like Jo to achieve the look for me. She did a great job! My hair was too short to style like Dita Von Teese's hair. I had a bob cut with layers. So, for my updo, Jo made a semi-beehive with some curls. I really liked what she did because it was simple yet elegant. My friends and other guests complimented on my hair and makeup at the wedding party. This review is not so much for Jo Chow as it is for her assistant, Margaret. I got makeup done by Margaret for a friend's wedding and she was absolutely sweet and went above and beyond expectations. I really liked her and had a great time chatting her up. However, the very next day my right eye grew a sty. At first small, then it grew exponentially. This did not go away for a couple weeks and my eye suffered as a result- soreness, pussy, red, you know how it is. I recall asking Margaret how often she cleaned her makeup brushes, and her response was "very often." However often she does clean them, it does not seem enough. Please, Jo Chow/Marget, if you are reading this: Take extra care to clean your brushes and makeup kit. You do great work, but don't let dirty brushes bring your business down. read more

Jo did my hair and makeup for my engagement shoot and wedding day, and I loved my look for both events! I was particularly worried about my acne dark spots, but Jo covered them up so well, it looked like I had completely flawless skin. The makeup also didn't look thick in person and yet was strong enough so I didn't look "washed out" on camera. It also looked perfect throughout the entire day--even though I got married on a hot July summer day, never did it one smear or fade away one bit! Jo clearly has a deep understanding of and passion for her craft. Prior to my makeup trial, I shared with her a few ideas I had, and she was very thoughtful in asking me clarifying questions to really pinpoint the look I was hoping for. She also was very patient in explaining what she was doing as she was doing it, which helped put me at ease since I don't wear makeup often. Additionally, she was very open to feedback and further suggestions since I didn't really know exactly what I wanted till later. Jo definitely understood that finding the right "look" for a bride is a process and can take time. I am so glad I found Jo to do my bridal hair and makeup. She is so sweet and was very easy to communicate with throughout the planning process. She was very responsive to emails, if I had any questions, and she was really attentive to my likes and dislikes. I had a trial at her studio months before the wedding, but luckily I already had my dress and jewelry picked out. With pics of those, as well as researching some hair and make up styles that I liked and sending it to Jo, made the trial go smoothly and really helped Jo come up with the look for my wedding. On wedding day, Jo came to the hotel to do my hair and makeup, as well as my bridesmaids' and Mother-in-law's - bright and early!
