Not sure why this place has a lower rating.... it's delightful!! we started with the peach cobbler pancakes for the table which had perfectly crunchy edges and were so flavorful and tasty!! just the right amount of sweet! i defaulted to me standard of shrimp and grits (cheesy grits to be precise...... WITH bacon?? yes please!!) my son ordered the mints cristo (which he loved!) and my boy ordered chicken friend steak. (the gravy was super flavorful, but the "steak" was processed and definitely not made in house) Potatoes were crispy and eggs cooked well. but the really star of Jojo mac's (for breakfast, anyway) are the cinnamon rolls we brought home!! potentially one of the best rolls i've ever had!! superb, in fact!! all sticky, cinnamon-y thumbs up on this one!! read more

Had this place on my list to try for a while. Not great day at work, so I decided to get food delivered to try to turn things around. I ordered what looked to be an amazing bowl of shrimp and grits. What I got was a big bowl of grits with a few shrimp tossed on as an afterthought. The bacon on the description didn't make it into my bowl, it must be with the rest of my shrimp. The sauce was nice and creamy, the noodles were cooked just right, and the consistency was thick but not overly heavy. It was a large enough portion that I ate some for lunch and was able to take the rest home for dinner later. The service was prompt and friendly. We were also excited to pick out some donuts afterwards to enjoy later! The staff posted up at their donut counter, around the corner, inside the Plaza, were great and described the donuts made in-house to us. All of the donuts and scones looked and sounded super yummy. A decent little spot in downtown, this place offers a lot of different lunch and brunch fare. The service was attentive, portions were large and reasonably priced, and food was fine. I got the Cajun fish sandwich--while on a large bun with an abundance of romaine, the fish lacked much flavor. The sweet potato fries were not crispy. The ambiance needs a lot of help. My sister and her family live in Albany and have ordered takeout from Jo Jo Macs previously - both my sister and niece said the food was great. When I was in town last weekend, my sister wanted to take us out for breakfast here and enjoy it in person. Our party of four arrived about 10:00 on Saturday morning, and I instantly noticed that it was pretty full - there was a sign-in sheet on the counter and my sister put our name down. This is where things got weird. There were several people working, two younger servers (maybe late teens/20ish) and two older people - none of them said hello, good morning, welcome.... absolutely no greeting whatsoever. They did look at us though, as they walked between the counter and the tables. After a minute or two of waiting for some kind of acknowledgement of either us as people or at least our name on the sign-in sheet, I realized that there was a corner off to the right and thought there might be more tables that I couldn't see. I peeked my head around and sure enough, there was a 6-top available. I walked back to the front and as the young woman working was walking by our group yet again without acknowledging us, I said "Good morning - could we take the 6-top around the corner?" Her reply was "We save that table for larger groups." She walked away and by this time, another customer had walked in. The older woman behind the counter called him over and assisted him with a take-out order; she then looked at our group and said "okay, you guys have already been helped" and then started looking around for anyone else she could help, I guess ....? I walked up and said "We've actually not been helped yet - would it be possible to take that 6-top around the corner?" To which she replied "That table is for larger groups." By this time my brother-in-law was like, let's go to Roger's Restaurant. We left and went over to Roger's which provided much better service and was clearly run by professionals. I was absolutely flabbergasted - a party of 4 was being denied the only available table because it could fit 2 additional people? There was a 4-top that was occupied by one guy and his toddler, which means that table was running at a 50% vacancy rate, higher than our party of 4 at a 6-top would have been. This idiotic logic combined with the failure to even greet our group left such a bad taste in my sister's mouth that she said several times that she won't be ordering from them again. She apologized for picking this restaurant but for goodness sake, the fault was clearly with the business. For all I know, Jo Jo Macs may have the greatest food on earth, but with crappy service like we experienced, who needs it? If business is so great that they don't feel the need to hustle, good for them. But judging by the amount of reviews that mention consistently poor service, I wonder if management ever considers the possibility that there might be room for improvement. For those that aren't fans of the traditional dish, Jo Jo Macs has fun variations with eggs done your way and the most delicious sauces, especially the GARLIC CREAM SAUCE--do not miss out on this sauce. For lunch choices (let's face it, breakfast is the best option for any meal), their Parmesan were such a yummy surprise and they have many delicious sandwiches, the muffuletta is my fave when they offer it. Honestly, one of the best southwest salad I've ever had. It was only missing one thing for me, which was honestly disappointing, and that one thing is avocado. Like this could be a 10 out of 10 orgasm in my mouth type of salad, if it had avocado. I mean my panties were still dripping wet after I ate this. Came here with the in laws while they were in town for the weekend. It's a cute little place. The grub was really good. The portions a very large. All the food was super good expect for my biscuits and gravy. My biscuit did not seem very fresh, that's why I am dropping 1 star. I've tried their beignets and they weren't that great. I've ordered a salmon Benedict and was given the shrimp benedict. It was good. I've ordered the Caramel apple french toast and it was amazing. We took my parents there for breakfast. My Dad had the cheesy shrimp and grits and he said it was really good. My Mom had the Salmon Benedict and loved it. I agree with everyone else that the customer service is lackluster, but the food is amazing. It does keep us coming back. Today it looked like they are training new people, seems like every time we come in they have new people. The waitress we had today did great at asking if we needed more water or coffee numerous times. So that was great, better than the last few times we have come. The food is good and worth the wait. If I could give them 0 stars, I would. We stopped in for a late breakfast/early lunch yesterday. It took 45 minutes to get our food after we ordered. Once the food arrived, it was horrible. I ordered the meatloaf sandwich. The meatloaf was burned on the bottom and it was more filler than meat. It was topped with a garlic aioli, that was congealed and there was enough on it for 6 sandwiches, not one. The brioche bun was good, but quickly became a soggy mess. The beignets were dense instead of light and fluffy and were barely warm. The waitress never checked back to see how everything was. I complained when I paid the bill, but they offered nothing to make it right. So $24 for a meal that was mostly inedible. Saddens me. Service and food used to be amazing, but yesterday's experience was so dreadful, I doubt we'll be back. read more

After leaving Loafers we walked down the street to this place. What a find. The staff was absolutely as nice as they could be. We were seated immediately. We ordered the blackend shrimp boil a side of jambalaya and the benigets. Since we were on a time crunch, we ended up taking it with us. However, the staff was extremely accommodating and boxed it up for us. The restaurant is cute and clean and the food was delicious. If your ever in Albany this is a great place to eat.
