We were driving through and stopped after reading the great reviews. It ended up being a pretty straightforward brunch spot. The food was fine, but felt mass-produced. They weren't trying to dazzle the taste buds or wow you with inventive flavors, just getting orders out. I can't blame them because the place was packed with a 30 minute waitlist. They ran out of pancake batter and came back to re-take our orders, so it felt like double the wait to get our food. They reimbursed us with an 8 dollar discount, which was a nice gesture. Decent spot, but the hullabaloo didn't live up to the experience. I would look for somewhere smaller and more personal nearby.

Stopped in for a little food while out for a drive. Always a lively friendly place. Took a seat at the bar and was immediately greeted by the bar tender. She mentioned the special of the day, crispy chicken sandwich which sounded good. Order came out promptly with a side of house fries. Very tasty sandwich. Fries were excellent. Overall a great meal

Food is always delicious here and they have so many options- love the wide variety of breakfast and lunch foods available. Drinks are fantastic as well. The prickly pear mojito is my favorite. Service was excellent. Ambiance of restaurant is very nice too. Love the older part of Albany.

Brick & Mortar absolutely impressed me. The energy in this place felt positive the moment I walked in, relaxed, inviting, and genuinely warm. The customer service was top notch, every interaction felt thoughtful and attentive without being overbearing. And the Bloody Mary, Superb. Perfectly balanced, bold, and easily one of the best I've had in a long time. You can tell they take pride in what they serve. Overall, an excellent experience. Great vibes, great drinks, great people. I'll definitely be back.

Chicken fried steak, hash browns were cooked perfectly, steak had a crispy buttermilk coating and the gravy was elevated and flavorful.

The food had amazing flavor and generous portions at an extremely reasonable cost. Highly recommend easy stop for a nice sit down breakfast/lunch. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Located in a nice old building, seating was comfortable with plenty of elbow room.

My husband and I had a lovely breakfast at Brick and Mortar Cafe. They were very busy but we were able to be seated right away at the bar top. Our seating was comfortable and the restaurant was so cute! Very intimate feel. We LOVED the Mexican mocha, it was the perfect amount of spice! I did mine with oat milk and it was amazing, I compared it with the regular milk my husband got and they were both so good. I had the fried chicken Benedict and my husband and had the Carnitas Benedict. I preferred the Carnitas but they were both delicious! Can't wait to try more of their menu.

Brick & Mortar is located 20 minutes outside of Corvallis and we chose it with the hopes that it would be less of a wait than the few other restaurants located within the college town. We arrived around 11am and it was a 45 minute wait, which isn't terrible considering it was the Sunday after a home game. Once seated, it did take a while to order and get our food but the staff was very friendly. The food was your typical American breakfast and lunch, I got the club sandwich and it was pretty yummy. However, the French dip was underwhelming and the Buffalo & Liege was a little odd. The concept of a chicken and waffle sandwich sounded good but the waffles were too soggy. Overall, this is a good choice if you are in need of a breakfast spot in the Albany/Corvallis area but I have had better food elsewhere.

Such an amazing breakfast !!! The menu has a variety of different unique things to choose from, they have an amazing coffee menu too. To start off, I ordered a Salted Caramel Latte, it was delicious !!!!! My husband ordered The Black & Blue Omelette, with Hash Browns, Mortar style ( gravy with fresh bacon & shredded cheese). I ordered the Carnitas Benedict, with Hash Browns, Mortar style. It was delicious, the hash browns were probably the best I've had. The Benedict has the perfect poached egg, and was so good. The portions are huge, I could only finish half or less, My husband must have loved his omelette, cause his plate was empty when we left. Definitely recommend !!!!

Good breakfast. Had the lemon ricotta pancakes. Yum! For a heavier meal my son had the chicken and waffles. Friendly staff and nice sit down restaurant. We were traveling from Corvallis to Portland. Would go back and try again.

On our drive from Eugene to PDX we planned on grabbing lunch. Decided to make the stop in Albany and ended up here due to the reviews. Driving thru the town we got a bit concerned that the place might be underwhelming but as soon as we hit the location we were pleasantly surprised by the many options in this location. We wished we had time to try them all. Hope we get a chance to visit again. The staff here was absolutely amazing. There was a bit of a wait, but only 10 minutes and it was absolutely worth the wait. The options are plentiful. The food is beyond fresh and perfectly cooked. Thrilled with the knowledge the chef was willing to share about their gluten-free options. All the guests at our table were 100% happy with their meal. Wish it was local to me!

Veggie Benedict with Mortar Style Potatoes

My partner and I came here to celebrate our anniversary and it was the perfect brunch spot! It's a pretty popular place so if you have to wait you can have a seat, order from the cafe, or go on a walk and check out the nearby shops. The interior is so cute - industrial yet rustic and cozy. The staff are polite and kind. The coffee was great (just know the espresso con panna is a tiny yet powerful two-shot drink). We ordered egg Benedict's - carnitas and veggie both with mortar style potatoes. We've never had such thick shredded hash before but it was delicious, as were the Benedict's! Not the most kid- or big family- friendly place due to seating but there were a few booths that could work for a family with children. Great for dates and meeting up with a friend or two!

The staff is friendly. But there is a bit of inconsistency with the food. Specifically with the fried calamari. I don't fry food at home so this is always a treat for me when I go out. The last 3 times I have ordered the dish it has come out 3 ways. First it was overdone. Twice. It shouldn't be brown. It should be golden. When we went back I told the bartender I really wanted to order the calamari, but they had overdone it the previous 2 times. She told me they had a new chef so I decided to give him a chance. It was better, but still not great. Then, because I just can't quit it, I ordered it one more time and it was awful. I'm kicking myself for not sending it back because it was that bad. It was as if the oil was not hot enough and it just absorbed all this grease and had almost no crunch. My bad. I have only eaten off of the appetizers menu because I like doing drinks and small plates so I can't comment on the entrees. You can't really screw up a Wedge Salad. The Brussel Sprouts are a safe option as well. And the Castelvetrano olives and warm hazelnuts with baguette is an interesting dish. But this is a pretty low bar in terms of cookery. I love going to the Vault. I just wish I could get more excited about the food.

It's just non flavored cream with fizz water Truffle fries: some of the best textured fries I've had. Really crispy on the outside. Could be perfect if the truffle flavor is a bit stronger Creole Prawn: the bread is really crispy. The shrimp and sauce isn't very Cajun for my taste. More of a northwest interpretation. Pretty mild Pork porterhouse: huge chunk of pork. The outside is a bit dry. Inside is pretty tender. However, it's lacking flavor. The tomato sauce isn't adding much flavor either. Top sirloin: it's ok. Wanted to order the burger but it's sold out. Just a normal steak. Nothing special Cream brûlée: love this one. Huge size for just 7$. Silky smooth custard with fresh fruit. The only downside is the sugar on top is a bit burned Service is good. Waitress is very nice.

Rainy Day, Great Bar Seat, and One Memorable Meal…read more It was a cold, rainy Oregon afternoon when I stumbled into Castor, and I'm glad I did. There happened to be one open seat at the bar, which is my favorite place to dine when traveling. Sitting at the bar lets you talk story with the bartender, learn the menu, and watch the cocktails come together. If you're eating alone, I highly recommend grabbing a seat here. The bartender was friendly, easy to talk with, and clearly knew both the menu and the craft behind the bar. One thing that stood out right away was their use of fresh local ingredients, which really shows up in the flavor of the dishes and drinks. I started with the Golden Manhattan, made with a pecan-infused bourbon that was fantastic. It had a rich, slightly nutty flavor with warm vanilla notes and just the right touch of sweetness. Smooth, balanced, and a great way to kick off the meal. Alongside that I ordered the chorizo clam chowder, which brought a creamy base with just the right amount of spice from the chorizo. Comfort food with a little personality. For dinner I switched gears and ordered the Creole Sour. This one really stood out. Bright citrus up front, a smooth bourbon backbone, and a subtle spice note that tied perfectly into the Creole theme. It had that classic sour balance, tart, slightly sweet, and refreshing without overpowering the drink. Dinner was the gumbo with hot bread and butter, and it delivered. Deep flavor, a nice slow warmth from the spice, and hearty enough to make the rainy Oregon weather feel like part of the experience. To finish things off I kept it simple with a neat pour of Ben Holladay, which made for the perfect nightcap. The staff were welcoming and relaxed, which made the whole experience feel easy and comfortable. This is the kind of place that works whether you're dining solo, meeting friends, out with someone special, or grabbing dinner with a group. The price point landed right where it should be for the quality of food, cocktails, and service. If you're in Corvallis and can grab a seat at the bar at Castor, take it. Order a cocktail, settle in, and enjoy the ride. It turned a rainy afternoon into one heck of a meal.

If you've ever rolled into Albany late in the evening and thought, "Now where in the world am I…read moregonna get a decent bite?" allow me to point you toward an old standby: Pop's Branding Iron. This place has been holding down the fort for what feels like forever, and walking in feels a bit like stepping into a time capsule where the coffee's hot, the plates are big, and nobody's in a hurry to reinvent the diner. One of my personal favorites is the patty melt simple, classic, and exactly what a patty melt ought to be. My daughter has her own favorite on the menu Monte-Cristo with fries that could probably feed a small ranch crew, That's kind of part of the charm here. The portions are big, the prices are fair, and when a lot of places in town have already shut their lights off for the night, Pop's is still there doing its thing. Now, I'll be honest it shows its age a little. A bit of cleaning and polishing here and there wouldn't hurt. But honestly, that worn-in feel is part of the story. If you're looking for something affordable, old-fashioned, and dependable especially later in the evening Pop's Branding Iron is definitely worth a stop. Four stars from me, and a tip of the hat to a place that's been feeding folks for generations.

Pop's Branding Iron is a good, solid diner with quite a few menu options. Breakfast (served all…read moreday) is my usual go-to here, but I've sampled a few appetizers and bites of food from the dinner menu here and there. The portions are very generous, and considering the prices of food these days, their prices are very reasonable. This is a great spot to eat at if you're looking for a lot of food at a great value. The food and service are about average, but to me, this is all a decent diner really needs to be. A big pro is that they are open late (7am-10pm daily). I recommend that they update their online menu, which advertises serving dishes 24-hours a day, which may confuse some customers. All in all, a good, reliable spot to eat a meal! There's a lot of dining space here, so it's good for both small and larger parties.
