The wife is very crafty and loves doing these small creative projects around the house but often we run out of materials. So here I am today shopping for some thick yarn and some cool stuff that catches my eye. This is a huge commercialized fabric store but lots of great deals were posted. Loved the door mats but they were all the same color and needed a more comical saying. The throw pillows were at a good price for $12.99. There were even a few creative kid's toys like a car you piece together with lego type parts. This definitely is the store that has the materials for professional and amateur artists or the common shopper that just wants to find an interesting and creative gift. read more

The store was stocked and well-merchandised with at least three employees that I could spot--and not busy on this Saturday afternoon. While I realize how short-staffed some businesses are, having their restrooms in such disarray is unacceptable. I hope the photos will help for someone to volunteer next time and at the very least empty the wastebaskets. I speak from experience working in retail before, if no one did it, as the CS Manager, I jumped on it for our patrons! It's the Golden Rule as well as the Platinum Rule in business. read more

Jo-Ann' s in Plantation Florida was my go to store for fabric when I lived in Broward County. Even though I don't sew I purchased materials for sewing. I do sew by hand just not using a sewing machine. I always found everything I need at this location. When I have a vision of the material for a project I have always found exactly what I want at Jo-Ann's. I'm posting two of my favorite pieces. After I purchased the red quilted material to line the antique trunk I refinished, my mother sewed it so I could drop it down inside and tack it around the top. My vision was complete. The cute apron was made by my Aunt Mary. My aunt made aprons as gifts. She told me to go to the fabric store and select the fabric design I wanted and she would make an apron for me. I loved the historic Cowboy Design that looks like it is from the 50's. The apron has ties at the waist and two pockets on the front. So there you have my reason for my love of this business. It's a family tradition. I'm recommending mainly for fabric and sewing supplies. read more

I made a stop here for a few crafting items once I discovered there was one in the area. I came here a few minutes after opening the inside was empty other than the two employees working and maybe one other customer. This location is quite spacious and more organized than other ones I've been to. I needed help locating one of the plain baseball hats, and the employee gave me information, and where in the aisle I'd find it, which helped a lot. Checkout was easy, and I had signed up for the rewards and lucked out with a sign up discount as well as a coupon discount. I got a lot of items for a great price. 4/4/2016- Last minute buy before a party. I came in here 45 minutes before closing. I could not find what I was looking for so I found an employee and explained that I was looking for. She looked at me and without saying a word just started walking so I just followed her. She pointed at what she thought I was looking for (it wasn't) and just walked away. I don't know if I happened to bother her at WORK, but I found it odd and rude!. I grabbed 2 other things that I thought would work and brought them to the cashier. This could probably be THE place for bad shopping experiences. I visited 3 times in one week looking for bobbins for my new sewing machine. Upon entering the store which was not busy at all. There was no customer service and they had no product on the racks. It looks like there is no one to do any restocking of merchandise and they don't care either. I asked for some help from the girl who was training, by herself, in the fabric cutting area but she was absolutely clueless and if I wanted to speak to a manager I would have to walk to the front of the store because the manager would not come back to the sewing area. I left and went home to shop online for the bobbins which the option for curbside pick up was available and there was 6 bobbin packs available. The next day I headed back to the store because I needed some new fabric for my new sewing ventures. Once again, nothing restocked on the shelves and no one cared. I was told a truck MIGHT have come in but no idea if there was bobbins on it even though online it still showed 6 available. No one would check for back stock and the girl at the register said that there was probably none as the online stock "is always wrong" and it will show you can buy online for curbside pickup but it is not available. My resolution is that the future of me shopping her is doubtful as WALMART carries plenty of sewing essentials and they are much less in price. Please check online from other outlets or head to Walmart for a much better experience. read more

Terrible experience with staff member who was cutting the fabrics. I'm not an arts and crafts person, but I needed some clear vinyl sheeting and found on Google that Joann had it in stock. The employee I approached was an older lady with short hair and a headset on, who I'm hoping is not the store manager. She was extremely rude when I was trying to explain what I was looking for, like I was speaking another language. Trying to clarify things I said, I think it's sold by the yard? She looked at me and said "you think?" in a very sarcastic manner. She then pointed to where I needed to look without saying a word. When I brought the role of vinyl for her to cut she slammed it on the countertop, started unraveling it uncontrollably and bending it all over the place. Clearly she did not want to be there and was extremely rude to not only me, but other customers as well. From the onset her demeanor was someone who is unapproachable. At least the young lady at the register was a very nice and remembered there was a coupon for the product I was buying, so it ended on a good note. read more

Really disappointed by my past few experiences here. I love JOANN, as they always a great selection of crafting essentials, awesome sales, and constant coupons. However, this particular location does not have enough employees working which makes it a very frustrating experience when you need assistance. The last time I was there, there were only 2 employees anywhere in sight. They were both working the registers. Therefore, there was not one person out on the floor to answer any questions or offer any assistance. It can be difficult to find specific items in a large crafting store. Having no help available makes for quite the irritating shopping trip. I asked one of the employees working the register if anyone was available to help me on the floor. He said he could help me but I did not see how, as he was actively checking people out. The shelf was empty where the item I needed would have been located. I asked if they had any more in the back and he directed me to the aisle the item was on. I reiterated that I already checked there and considering the shelf was empty, I was hoping they maybe had more in the stock room. He appeared to blow me off and respond by saying that everything they have is out on the floor. While this very well may be the truth, it felt like a quick answer to avoid going in the back since they were busy. I left without buying any of the other items I had in my cart. I don't want to blame the employees, I know they were understaffed and overwhelmed but this isn't the first time I've had a similar experience at this location and I will no longer shop here. On the hunt for some very particular materials I was lead to Jo Ann's as a friend said this would likely be the easiest place to get them. Working on a cool installation for an event we are partnering with I needed to secure some body frames. Walking in I was like a fish out of water. I've never been in a fabric store - and to make sure I was in and out I asked one of the employees what I was looking for. Well, I described it the best I could...she got it. She lead me to some collectors items - and said this is all they had. Ah, man...$20 for these frames was way out oh my budget, especially considering I didn't need them to be collectors items. By the way who collects pin cushions? Any-who...determined that there HAD to be other options in the store I perused the aisles. YES! There they are....wait these are a little larger than I need...OH..WHAT?! $289?!?!?!?! That's WAY over my budget lol. These life-sized frames were for actual dresses I guess. Never knew they could be that expensive. Defeated I began walking out. Passing the Halloween aisles I took a look down the aisle...right before reaching the exit. Out of the corner of my eye...there they were! Styrofoam frames that were EXACTLY what I was looking for. $3.99 each. SCORE. I ran and grabbed a basket and cleared them out of their entire inventory - and threw in a styrofoam head as well, cause why not. I'm a little bummed the staff wasn't that helpful...but at the end of the day I found what I needed. The aisles were all super tidy and as far as fabric stores you can pretty much get everything you need here. I like this store a lot more than the one in Margate. It feels bigger and has a better selection of fabrics. Also sales associates are nicer and doesn't feel like they're always short staffed. It is a bit far for me, but if I can't find something at the Jo-Ann closest to me, I come here. If I need a quick something, I don't have to deal with the traffic to get South of 595 on University. I recently needed some white melting chocolate and it was convenient for me to pop in quickly. I like this store. The staff is always friendly and tries their best to help. Unfortunately the fabric selection in most Joanns stores have gone down over the years, but I believe this is out of the stores hands and more of a corporate decision. Here's an honest review , despite the pre cautious of this current pandemic . So considering the fact that the store only allows 10 people in the store at a time, people are standing outside for hours trying to get in a store with very little help which is part of the reason why the people that do make it in spending just a little under an hour looking for material or standing in a line to have materials cut to size . They do have the curbside service in place which is a big help but does nothing for the people on site that want to get in and get out and spend more time in the line than in the store . Moral of the story is .. something has to be implemented that will help speed up the process or there will continue to be some mad people read more

A little over a year ago I purchased a $15,000 sewing machine from the Viking dealer inside Joanne Fabric in Ft. Myers. The head of the team is as friendly as a pit viper. One might think that after making that kind of purchase a person would AT LEAST be treated respectfully. It was with great hesitation that I went in to ask a question today about trouble I was having embroidering. The lady didn't ever get up, shake my hand, act like she knew who I was and she NEVER looked at me--the whole conversation! As bad as that was I was having fabric cut and the person at the cutting table didn't even have the selvedge edges together. I asked if it was possible for her to square the fabric up because I was only buying a half yard. She acted as if I demanded a kidney! Next I was interested in buying a $60 pair of scissors. Nobody knew if they were on sale and everyone I spoke to repeatedly asked why I didn't bring the scissors to the front. Well--it is your store. There was absolutely NOBODY to get the scissors for me. They are locked up because they are expensive. The person at the cash register was equally rude and completely clueless. I have had similar experiences at their store in North Fort Myers, FL, too--with the manager removing a discount sign before the sale was actually over and trying to deny me the sale price by lying about the paper being in front of the product I was trying to buy. Obviously this is a systemic, from-the-top-down problem. There is no way this company isn't aware of the gigantic gaffe in, and I use the term very loosely, customer service. This is my preferred JoAnn to go to when I need craft supplies. I'm a knitter and a sewer and occasionally dabble with the 2D and 3D arts, so having a store that has a decent selection of all of these are good. The layout stays more or less the same, is easy to navigate, and the store is always clean and filled with friendly staff. The only downside for many knitters would be that a large portion of their yarn is acrylic; however, there is an abundance of colors and patterns to choose from. read more
