I as the bride and my bridal party made an appointment to go here seeking "the dress" for me and give the girls a chance to look around to see if she had anything for them as a bridesmaid choice, in the meantime I pulled up the picture of the chosen dress she had on her website, it was sold and I was told I was too large for the dress anyways, she ran around and brought me 3 dresses of HER choice ignoring not only my requests but the options of what my girls where showing me & her, still telling them Im to "large" to fit in the dresses and IF I wanted that dress they would have to alter it and it would be too expensive. I had an awful experience as well as my family and friends, she was rude to everyone. In the end I felt self conscious of how I looked, because she basically called me fat the entire time I was working with her, even my daughter chimed up and told her I was planning a surgery soon and my weight wouldn't be that much of an issue, Joanne didnt listen. Everyone was upset, mad, angry and insulted by the time we left. Having the right stylist who is an alterations expert themselves truly matters as a petite bride; I realized this after a disappointing experience at a Hayward bridal shop. I had shared my budget and style preferences clearly... but dresses shown were well above my budget and didn't reflect what I had asked for (examples like long sleeves when I want to show my traps? dresses 2x above my budget? One side is slightly shorter than the other, I was told to take it to a dry cleaners for pressing, and there were new, large oily areas on the front. When I showed the oily areas to Joanna, she had a fit and called her husband to "deal" with me. I had a good idea of what I wanted, so when I visited with my bridesmaids, I tried a handful on, and ordered my dress in October of 2021. I returned in January to do my first fitting. Unfortunately, things went downhill from here. I am 5'6," and when I ordered my dress, I weighed 144 lbs. I'm not a very big woman to start with and as a bride, I was very conscientious about my weight already. When I came to do my first fitting in January, I weighed 140 lbs--not a big difference but: Joanna ordered a dress that was too small for me. I tried it on and I had to squeeze to fit into the dress, and, unlike the original dress I had tried on, there were two, unflattering lines across my butt that stood out underneath the lace. Joanna suggested that I lose 15 pounds and then the dress would fit properly. I laughed it off and said, "From where? There's not enough of me now to trim anything more!" At this point, it had taken 4 months to get my dress shipped in, and I didn't have a lot of options to protest, but here is my dilemma: Joanna took my measurements to order the dress and it was custom made. Since I had actually lost 4 lbs, there should have been no problems getting it on. Right? I've waited quite a few months to post this review because Joanna deeply hurt my feelings, not to mention embarrassed me in front of my bridesmaid and my mother. No one should be shamed while trying their wedding dress on, and I was miserable for a week after I got home from that appointment. After that, meeting with Joanna was a waste of time. For the next fitting, I came in and she hadn't done anything yet. So we went over the same length of the hem, and how I wanted the straps. The next visit, the dress was done, but she hadn't pressed it so I had to come back a fourth time to pick it up.--I live 30 minutes away from Danville. My dress was beautiful, but my experience sucked. As a bride, you are already stressed out with planning and making sure all of the details are taken care of. When my dress came in, I had 10 weeks to go before my wedding. Because of her error and her comment, I went on an extreme diet and exercise plan to fit into the dress, which added a mountain of extra stress. Joanna makes mistakes and is disorganized. Although the existing designs on the dress were extremely complex, she made it look as if they'd never been touched at all! I'd also wanted to add a train, bustles, and off-shoulder sleeves, and she was able to add them all beautifully. She did such an amazing job with the bustles that many guests thought I had simply cut the train off during the reception! I found her very easy to work with -- she had insightful suggestions without being pushy and was very willing to work with what I wanted. She helped me decide on a beautiful veil to go with the dress, and she was patient with teaching my mom how to get the dress on me and how to button the bustles. Joanna has a beautiful selection of wedding gowns for all budgets, so I felt comfortable trying on dresses in my price range! I had initially gone to Joanna's to look for a wedding dress but ended up finding one at another location. However while talking with her at my appointment I could tell she enjoyed and had a great eye for tailoring detail. I ended up bringing my dress for have her do the alterations and was very happy with the results. The dress fit perfectly the day of. I went with a more difficult bussle but she made it easy to do and we had no issues the day of. I ended up also getting my vail from her selection while it was there as well. They have a really good selection of dresses and Joanna really honed in on my style and picked out great dresses. I am shocked at the horrible reviews.. I had nothing but amazing experience at Joanna's. One rainy Friday evening I stopped by Joanna's bridal because I was in the area and figured I should just start looking for a dress since my wedding was 3 months away, was not planning on getting any thing and figured since it was in Danville I wouldn't be able to afford it, But I was so wrong.. So went in there Friday night with no appointment and Joanna was so nice and helped me find a few dresses to try on and I tried on a few. I found three I liked. I asked her to put them on hold until the next day I could come back and bring another friend for more advice. When I came back I narrowed it down to two. Came back a third time with another group of friends and then I found "The Dress"!!! Joanna was so accommodating and patient with me. I even went to a few other places to double check if I liked my dress or not and I hated every other place I went to selection and customer service. Once I picked the dress I set up time to do the alterations we did them and they came out great, I lost a little bit of weight so at one week before my wedding I had to go back and fix the bust. Joanna had no problem with fixing it! She gave me her professional opinion on how I wanted to alter the dress which was great! I cut the front so you could see my shoes and she made it look like it came that way and it blended perfectly. I also added little cap sleeves and she did a great job you couldn't even tell it came that way. My dress was a great price- basically a steel! I came at a great time. There was so many beautiful dresses to choose from they have a great selection. What was great is that they are all different styles not generic dresses you see everywhere (which I do not like). Every time I went in there for whatever reason I saw lots of women try on such beautiful dresses. Joanna has lots of jewelry selections and hair accessory's. I got my hair clip there and loved it so much it matched perfectly. Most of the Jewelry is hand made. I loved my dress so much and so did my husband and everyone at my wedding. For walking in to a shop with no appointment and not knowing a thing about the shop I am and was beyond happy with all my service. I love Joanna she does and di great work! If I was you I would not read the bad reviews. Don't waste your time, or copious amounts of money! I was a referral from my sis-in-law who got her dress and alterations here. I started by calling the store to make an appointment for a QUOTE for alterations on my lace Casablanca down. The gentleman, who i assume is Joanna's husband, was very nice, and set me up with a 1pm Saturday apt. My MOH and i arrived on time and was greeted by her Husband. Joanna was running behind so he took my dress and asked us to sit and wait. After about 10 minutes he put me into the (super tiny) dressing room. After my dress was on Joanna appeared and pointed me int he direction of the pedestal and mirror. Without saying a single word she just frantically started pinning. started from the top and worked her way down. She didn't even ask me to move my arms, she just pushed them over my head. I stood there for about 5 minutes while she pinned. Then she decides to start speaking to me "Why this dress in this size? Don't you know it's way too big on you?" in a very judging and irritated tone. She continues to tell me that This dress is a very very difficult dress to alter (it's just a lace dress) and the fact that i got it in such a big size will cost me. I tried to explain that i lost some weight since i picked the dress up 9 months ago, but i didn't think i had lost that much. She didn't wanna hear it. Then she started commenting that she sells the same dress at her store, and i should have purchased it from her (SO glad i went to Trudy's Bridal in Campbell, they are FANTASTIC,but don't have an alterations shoppe). When she was finally done pinning, she stood up and said "I see you in one month, don't dare loose more weight". When in this process, I've only lost 10 pounds or so,and to that point, don't tell me what i can do with my body! I still have 2 months to get to my goal weight and look great on my wedding day! ugh...and so she continues... Before she an out of the room i explained that i was here for an estimate and that i needed to know how much alterations would cost. She looked at me like i had 4 heads. She got angry and stated she didn't know if needed a quote. If she had known that she wouldn't have "Wasted" her time pinning me (all of 7 minutes). She ran to her calculator and generated a bogus quote of over $600, and said it'll most likely go up from there. I tried to wipe the SHOCK off my face and told her that i way too entirely out of my price range, and i don't think i'll be back. She didn't say a word. She pointed to the dressing room and went back to her other customer. I left there feeling pissed off and defeated. I would NEVER recommend this place to a Bride! During my wedding dress adventures, I visited 18 different salons. Joanna's has some MAJOR issues. Before you try on any dresses, they make you sign a waiver stating that you may not take photos of your dresses...and they you cannot know the DESIGNER of your dress! This salon wants you to be totally ignorant to what you are buying, so if you are overpaying or underpaying you have no idea. Im sorry, I would never buy a dress in a MILLION years if I don't know who made it. Also, it is insulting to those designers who have created these beautiful dresses, which in my opinion are works of art. I would have turned around but I live in Antioch and it was one heck of a drive, so I figured I would just try some dresses on anyway, The tags in the dresse are ripped out, which is illegal. (To be specific, it IS legal for a store to rip out a tag if they are replacing it with a store tag, but half the dresses didn't even have that.) So why do business with a salon that breaks the law? No way. The one good thing about this place was my consultalt...I believe her name was Jennifer. She was very polite, honest, and had good advice about dresses overall. Then the owners tried to give me a discount on an Allure dress - which Allure doesn't allow - and if they get caught Allure may stop doing business with them.And they would only give it to me if I bought the dress right away! So I didnt have much time to think things over. I don't think you should pressure any girl into buying a wedding dress, it's a careful decision to be made. I was very impressed with my experience at Joanna's Bridal Boutique for a number of reasons. First, I came in on a Saturday without an appointment and was taken in right away. I told the gentleman at the counter that I was desperate because I was behind on purchasing a bridesmaid dress for my brothers wedding and needed it in less than eight weeks. Luckily there was a large number of short dresses and the turquoise color matched the swatch that I brought perfectly. I am a super fast and very easy customer, so I just picked five dresses, tried them on, and the owners husband pinned the dresses to fit me perfectly. Everything was quick and easy. I had a fantastic experience at Joanna's. Ultimately I found my dress at another shop, but I would still highly recommend visiting Joanna's when your shopping for your wedding dress. I was looking for a short dress with long lace sleeves for around $500...not an easy thing to come by and certainly not the kind of thing that would make a dress shop owner want to spend quality time with you. Joanna didn't care that I wasn't willing to spend thousands of dollars. She offered me lots of options, including looking at some 'mother-of-the-bride' and bridesmaids dresses that came in white/ivory and could be altered in one fashion or another. As happy as I was with the dress I found and the shop I found it in, I am still quite in awe of how nice my experience was with Joanna. Definitely worth checking out!!! read more
