"Not Just Bikes!" Honestly I thought this was simply a bike shop but no way. The primary business is bikes which I'm sure they are experts at but they also have an expertise in ice skates and a nice large rack with probably every single Tubbs Snowshoe model available on the Tubbs website. I stopped in to upgrade my older snowshoes for something better quality after having discovered that Tubbs had a local dealer in town that happen to be at Joe Fix Its. Woohoo, I ventured over and the gentleman in the store was super nice and helped me make my selection. Charged me 48.00 dollars to replace one bike wheel spoke on a rim that was off the bike and had the tire removed. The spoke is a couple dollars at most and takes at most five minutes to install. Way over priced. read more

I have been a customer of Joe Fix Its for over 6 years and between my GF and myself, we have purchased 5 bikes from them, the most recent being two Specialized Como 2.0 ebikes. I've have been in many bike shops over the years but nowhere can compete with them in selection and service. Six years ago I was looking for a particular Specialized Hybrid but none of the bikes shops I frequented up to that point had an XL size. They all offered to order it for me with a deposit, meaning I bought the bike. I gave Joes a call to see what they had. Sean checked their inventory and said they had 3 in that size in 2 colors. He then said to come in and try them out. I was able to make the trip and he had the bikes ready to go for me to try. The bike was exactly what I wanted. Sean then said he still had the previous year's same size and model boxed in stock and could save me about $150 on it. Perfect, so it didn't have the latest color decal on it! To be fair, all the small bike shops in my area also have great and friendly people. I don't ever remember ever going to a "grumpy" bike shop. But all of them combined don't have a fraction of Joe's inventory or brand selection. 10% off on all accessories off for a month after a bike purchase is great too. I do much research online before buying anything and sure, there are off brand bikes you can get cheaper. My experience however is, in most cases, you do "get what you pay for". I had an early Specialized Rock Hopper I got in Jersey way back in the 90s, which lasted me 20 years without any issues until I gave it to a friend who still uses it. Another friend bought a similar box store bike at the same time I got the Rock Hopper and it lasted 3 years with problems all the time with the very cheap components (AND it rusted). A few years ago after I took my GF to Joe's to get her a Specialized hybrid, I started to talk to Sean about ebikes. When I was young I assumed we would all have flying cars by now but I guess ebikes are going to be the best I get in my lifetime. He said they were starting to evaluate them at the time. Shortly after that they had a Giant ebike they were trying and by chance I was talking to Shaun again. He said jump on it and try it out. I was very impressed with it but not ready at the time as I was still watching the developments the different approaches (Like hub drive vs mid drive) companies were taking as ebikes were still very new. (Much like the early days of PCs). Over the next two years I would call Sean and ask where they were on ebikes and he always would take to time to answer my questions and give his opinion. Never once did he seem impatient with these multiple phones calls. When I finally saw that Specialize took ebikes in the direction I wanted to go, Sean told me they had the Specialized Como 2.0 in stock ready to try out. I checked out all the reviews and my GF and I went down to try them. I agreed with Sean after our test ride that this was the one to get. We bought two. I know people saying they got off-brand ebikes online for far less, but they are heavier, battery in the rear rack, rear hub drive and no local service or part replacement.....and in many cases, need to assemble yourself. If you do make the trip and it happens to be a nice day, Brian, Shaun and the rest of the staff will probably be busy with customers. In my experience they take their time with everyone so it's well worth the wait to get your turn for their attention. Their focus appears to be more on making sure you are on the right equipment with selling it secondary. I was looking for a couple of bicycles for myself and my wife and wanted a bit more than what the big box stores were offering, so after a quick Google search I stopped in to check out Joe Fix Its. I would never have thought that the place was a bike store by it's exterior and name. I was thinking hardware store. After walking through the door though I knew I was in a place that knew their stuff. Great selection and Scott was a big help in making our selections. No pushing to upsell or anything, just good information and when asked a personal opinion but not hype. We had a slight problem the first day out with my wife's bike but we were in Goshen so we swung by and Scott immediately took care of things and replaced the bad from the factory shifter. Got us back out enjoying our day with a minimum of delay. Very happy with our experience at Joe's and I would recommend them to anyone who is looking for a bicycle. read more

I'm interested in purchasing a bike. In fact a family member wants to buy one for me as a gift. This is a very long-standing business and busy repair shop. But they don't have bikes to sell and ordering takes 6-9 months, disinterested in my business. Went online and Walmart is selling bikes. So, I think they are sitting on a goldmine if they could see it. I'm older and I'm thinking of getting a power assisted ebike. These aren't cheap. My last bike trip was on Independence Pass near Aspen Colo and I used to ride w a bike club. Not a beginner. But frustrated as to purchasing ( sigh). And it had better be an ebike if the starting price is $700 for a bike that looks like the one I had from my parents age 8. They could do so much better these days! read more

I live in New Jersey and found this bike shop through the Giant web page. They were the closest shop to have the Giant bike I was looking for. I am glad I made the drive up to Joe Fix Its. This is my second Giant and there were a few issues with the bike after I picked it up. Sean and the guys were all very helpful and understanding in resolving the manufacturing issues for me. I was pleasantly surprised because I was obviously not a regular customer. The shop was busy during my visits and I felt they did their best to attend to everyone's needs. I just happened to stop in because I have been seriously considering riding again. We were greeted by Brian, the sales man who obviously knew what he was doing. It didn't take long for me t realize I was in the right place. Brian took my measurements and then he suggested a few bikes which he carried downstairs and adjusted so I could test ride them. It was awful cold outside so he even provided he with gloves. After riding the bikes I was prepared to purchase one but Brian encouraged me to return because he wanted to meet with me again before purchase. He wanted to show me a few more bikes to ensure that I got what I wanted. He did not rush to seal the deal and never tried to up sell me once I showed interest in a particular brand, I plan to return on the next warm day and there is no doubt that these guys have my business. We support local businesses as much as we can. Finding snow shoes for my four year old is a task we hoped to have some support with. After 45 minutes of waiting for them to sharpen skates, my husband read one of their sizing books and found the snow shoes himself. We then caught one of the sales men in passing and asked their opinion and them bought the snow shoes. I'm disappointed by the lack of salesmanship to all ages. read more

The only bike shop in the lower Orange County area and they know it. Brought my bike to the shop two weeks ago to have my brakes serviced. The gentleman told me that they would need to be bled and that it would be $35. Received a call from the shop 1 week later and I was told that the issue with the brakes was a manufacturer recall and that the required part would be shipped to the shop by manufacturer and upon them receiving it they would install. Received a call from the shop advising that the bike was ready and upon asking what the amount due was I was told $50.00 for their labor. Upon retrieving the bike I was told that the issue was the brake lever. When I asked how much labor was put into the repair as $50 seemed excessive, I was told by the gentleman something along the lines that these parts don't just appear on the bike. When I mentioned that I could probably spend less on labor costs for a car brake job the gentleman proclaimed to a coworker "we got a tool here." I was then advised that my bike wasn't purchased at Joes Fix it. Where I purchased my bike should bear no impact on the costs associated with the repair. When a consumer asks a simple question about the costs of a simple repair job they should not be admonished or ridiculed by the workers. When I asked the gentleman who proclaimed me to be a tool who the store manager was he stated that it was he. Joe's Fix It is the only bike shop in region and that's remarkable. They are indifferent and disrespectful to their customers and don't have the decency to explain the labor costs that they apply to what should be a pretty simple job. read more

I purchased my last 3 bikes from Joe Fix Its and they have been nothing short of spectacular. Always friendly and knowledgeable. I purchased a new mountain bike and my first road bike over the past two years. On both purchases the staff spent hours with me answering my questions and working with me on test rides. In the end, on both, I ended up purchasing bikes that were not in stock. While other shops will always try to steer you towards what they have in stock, these guys did not hesitate in ordering exactly what I wanted. I find their prices very reasonable in my experiences, below MSRP unlike other local shops. What especially prompted me to write this review is that recently I had a failure of my front brake on my Specialized Epic that was just over 2 years old. Joe Fix Its went out of their way to work with SRAM to get this replaced at no charge. ADDITIONALLY SRAM sent a free matching new rear brake since they no longer made the model I was running on my bike! That's $600 that remained in my pocket thanks to the staff at Joe Fix Its! If you are looking for a new bike and want to work with a friendly, knowledgeable staff you should make it your business to stop in. If you value highly personalized attention I recommend stopping during the week or on a rainy weekend when there are less customers and the staff can devote 100% of their efforts towards you. read more

Despite the fact that I was going to think about it and not ready to make a purchase, I was welcomed and the guy spent time talking with me. I returned a couple of weeks later and bought a bike- they let me try it out first and adjusted it so that I was super happy with everything. Never was pushy and made me feel welcomed, even though I am not a pro rider. Highly recommend this place!! read more

Been coming to this shop for over 40 years. Got my first hockey skates here, plenty of sticks, street-hockey blades, and lots and lots of bike stuff, service, and rentals. Visiting my parents in Chester this week, I picked up a bike on Craigslist to keep in their garage so I can ride the Heritage Trail while visiting. Figured I'd maintain the family tradition of going here for all things bike, and rode the trail to the shop intending to buy some spd pedals and bottle cages, etc.. Had a great breakfast nextdoor at Howell's and then rolled my bike in the front door of the bike shop. As I approached the service area, a rude little man appeared (on the phone), pointed to the front entrance and said "Back it on out, and come around back." I was about 15 feet from the service area and back door in the middle of his empty shop. I said nothing, and just looked at him, perplexed. He repeated, "Back it on out." No hello, no greeting, no explanation. Just "back it on out." I backed it on out alright, after giving him a piece of my mind for his lack of manners, and rolled on over to Orange County Bicycles, right on the trail and 17m on the way back to Chester. The young guys in there were welcoming and helpful in their very well appointed shop, encouraged me to roll my bike right in the front door (a bike allowed in a bike shop, go figure), and insisted on installing the pedals and bottle cages I purchased. Bonus points for the adorable and friendly shop pup. I had heard that Joe Fix Its had gone downhill in the past several years, but, was shocked at this level of blunt rudeness (so, NOT, Orange County). Convenient location for me, but very rude brands of people, particularly the older guy at the front. He may be the owner or the manager, not sure. You bring them business, but they make you feel like you came there to beg. I wouldn't refer anybody to them. I think they act this way knowing they don't have much competition in the area. I just purchased a new road bike earlier this week from a different shop. Trying to work with that shop for minor adjustments and information has been downright terrible in the week following my $3,000 purchase at their store (it was the only shop that had the bike i wanted on the east coast). Frustrated by this and wanting to establish a better rapport with another local bike shop, I stopped into Joes. I spoke with Dave about what was going on, and told him I just needed an adjustment to my derailleurs, and that I was looking for somewhere to replace the terrible shop I bought my bike from. Dave took the time to speak with me about what he was doing, put my bike up on the rack and make the necessary adjustments all when I stopped in. I purchased a few other things from the shop, and was pleasantly surprised that the minor adjustments to the derailleurs weren't billed (they took only about 5 minutes, but it's work I appreciate and I am not skilled or confident enough to do myself). I will definitely be back for all my bike needs moving forward, Dave was friendly, knowledgeable, and actually seemed interested in gaining a customer unlike the shop I bought my bike from. I never write reviews, but my experience at Joe's Fix it was outstanding. I am a returning rider age 63, who did research to find the bike I thought would fit my needs. I am from CT, and Joe's had the bike I was looking for. I worked with Shaun, who patiently answered my questions, adjusted, readjusted, and fit me to the bike to ensure my riding experience would be perfect. He helped me choose the accessories to solidify both a safe and fun journey. Using the latest technology he even helped me download an app to support recording daily riding to improve my skill. This place is wildly overpriced, but conveniently located to the Heritage Trail. If you have the time to shop, virtually any place you will find will offer better prices, both on service and bikes. Have been shopping here for 32 years, for bikes for four kids now grown and finally an upgrade for myself. Prices have always been competitive and service outstanding, with attention to fit and desired use. They have at least a dozen saddles you can try before purchasing, stand by what they sell, and will bring your bike back to original functionality at a very reasonable cost. They are also wonderful for hockey equipment and Lionel (as well as other scales) trains, with the same talent for service and repair that they have for bikes. You can get things cheaper on the Internet, but you'll probably like it better if you get it here. They also work hard to promote cycling in the county. We are blessed with 3 great bike shops in the area, but Joe Fix Its has the largest selection of both new and used bikes. read more

Very disappointed in Joe Fix Its. Last season I had a warranty fix for a manufacturers defect. Specialized provided the parts to fix the bike free of charge, but Joe Fix Its, charged over $400 to install the part. I got the bike back and it couldn't even be ridden, the rear derailleur was broken, they snapped a cable housing, and the hose for the shock jammed in stopping the rear tire from moving because they couldn't figure out how to route it, I had to bring it my bike another bike shop just to be fixed. When I spoke with the assistant manager Sean, he said that they couldn't be expected to put everything back together properly since the bike wasn't originally purchased at their shop. I then asked to speak with the owner who requested I send photos of the damaged parts, which I promptly did, but he never called back or returned my messages. The saddest part was that the bike worked fine when I brought it to them, and had been ridden the day before. I had just noticed a hairline crack when I was cleaning the bike, so brought it straight to them thinking that was the right thing to do. I'll never do business with this shop again, even though I had been a regular customer for over 20 years. read more

This place is overpriced and has the worst staff. I needed a part for my bike which I was quoted over the phone as a $2 part. I traveled from Middletown and was charged $20 for it. I was told by the sales rep that I could bring my bike into the shop and they would install the part on my bike for free. I bring my bike in and then was charged an additional $15. I pretty much paid $35 for 2 nuts. They were also ordering a part for me. It's been weeks and they have never gotten back to me about it. The prices there are disgusting. You can buy the same stuff elsewhere for way cheaper. I would not recommend this place at all! read more

I always try to shop local so in my search for a bike I thought I would try Joe Fix It in goshen. But before I start my gripefest, I first want to point out that the gentleman who works in the shop ( I believe his name is Stewart ) was a cool cat ! He was extremely helpful and personable. I tried 2 bikes and fell in love with a used bike they had. I being on a limited budget, was hoping to get a bargain on this bike as it had some wear and tear. Because the owner/manager was not present after the ride I was told I would have to call back the following day to obtain the price. Long story short I researched the bike that night and found several online. The next day I called and found the price exorbitant ($469.00) for a used 2 year old bike and told them I'd have to think about it. After even more research I found it brand new for $500.00 at Bicycle World in Mount Kisco. I called Joe Fix it back again and asked them to reconsider the price and left them my number to let me know they could do any better. I never heard back from them. Very dissapointing ! In any case..I went to bicycle world - bought the new bike. Even though it was more than I wanted to spend; it was the better deal. read more

Excellent repair work! I called before as I was an hour drive away and wanted to ensure that they had the right parts. They were able to quickly put on a new tire, new tube, and fix a broken chain. They were friendly and helpful throughout the process. Prices seemed reasonable but I don't have much to compare it to. And you can grab a great lunch at Howell's cafe across the street while you wait. read more

Have been buying Bikes as well as Hockey equipment here for years. They are always helpful and will get you what you need. unlike others I didn't find their prices out of line with other stores. If you are actually matching component to component on Bikes they are right were they need to be. The shop is excellent with repairs and are always helpful with local places to Ride. Could I find stuff cheaper on line well anyone can do that and I don't want to waste the time nor money to drive all over the metro NY area to save so little money! read more
