Fantastic calzone! My daughter told me it's the best calzone. I'm from NY and she knows how hard it is to find a good calzone with ricotta. The place is pretty typical of an Italian pizzeria, service was fast and friendly. There was a misunderstanding ( maybe mine) and we got calzones with meat but they promptly made us new ones. I cannot say enough amazing things about their food. We had the toasted ravioli, spaghetti & meatballs, and stuffed shells. The marinara with the toasted ravioli was delicious, and the ravioli were perfectly crispy and stuffed. The stuffed shells came out bubbling hot and was perfect. The cheese on top was soooo good. My boyfriend tore into his spaghetti and meatballs right away and said it was delicious. I will dream about this bread, though. Hot, perfectly crispy outer layer, soft and fluffy inside. Highly recommend trying it in the leftover sauce from the entrees. The owner was a wonderful man who told us about his time in New York and his shop now. It was a very pleasant chat and I'm glad it was slow enough to be able to talk to him. We will absolutely be back. read more

I ordered a large deep dish pizza and received the equivalent of a dominos pan pizza. The "deep dish" should be taken off the menu as it's misleading and the pizza wasn't even assembled like a deep dish. Sauce was on the bottom and cheese and topping were ontop. Again it wasn't even DEEP DISH it was a pan pizza. Ontop of that the tortellini I ordered were the same frozen ones I buy from Walmart, and the sauce was way to greasy reminded me of prego sauce. We came here based on the recommendation of another restaurant's staff in the area. We started with garlic knots - holy cow these are good. Great flavor and comes with a side of marinara. Food Ordered their lunch special of two slices of pizza and a drink for $7. Pizza was eh. Cheese was rubbery and extremely greasy. Very little toppings, and while the crust was okay, the base of the pizza was soggy and blah, due to grease. Service The guy behind the bar was rude and curt to all the guests, except for the regulars whom he recognized. Atmosphere The main room I was in was cute and felt like s good pizzeria in NYC. I cannot say enough good things about this authentic Italian restaraunt! My family heritage has roots in Sicily and as soon as I walked in, it was if I was thrown back into my childhood. The service was outstanding, staff was friendly and had true conversations with my fiancé and I as we waited to eat. To give you an estimate on how we felt about our service, we left around a 40 percent tip! The food, simply amazing, we only had leftovers because of how overly full we were. She had a white sauce based dish with clams and pasta, I had the spaghetti with sausage and we split an order of garlic knots! All three dishes were outstanding and when we were done, she looked at me and mentioned how excited she was to come back and try some of the other dishes and pizza. Stopped here for lunch when visiting downtown Springfield. This restaurant is located about a block south of the Old Capital building. We chose it because most places were closed due to COVID (we assumed). This ended up being a small, family run place. The interior is probably 50's with booths and tables. Service is order at the counter. The menu was pretty detailed. Most pasta dishes one can think of are available. Hot sandwiches, pizza by the slice, soups, etc. Some beer and wine also. Lunch specials include two slices with a topping and soda for $8. Daily lunch is a different pasta each day, small loaf of bread and a drink for $9. My daughter did slices and said it was one of the better pizzas she had eaten. I did lasagna. Came straight out of the oven piping hot. Very good sauce for dipping bread. Definitely worth the extra walk if looking for a hot Italian meal while strolling through town. read more

I heard this is the best pizza in Springfield, IL. Wish I could tell you yes or no, because I never got that far. I called to place an order for delivery, the pizza according to menu was approx. $23.00. The gentleman on the phone taking the order said $35.00 total. I questioned why so much higher than menu price, he said hotel was pretty far away. I said $12.00 fee was pretty high, he then said $33.00. I kindly said thanks anyways but no thank you. This person said "then f-you then" and hung up. If that is the class of the folks working there, then they will never get my business. Although I've ordered delivery from here are multiple occasions, I've never eaten inside the restaurant. Took our grandson out for his birthday here and had a party of 6. A humble setting with incredible food. We stopped here on a Saturday afternoon by chance and ordered eggplant sandwiches. Our expectations were low--this isn't a fancy place, and pizza seemed to be the specialty. As I was standing at the counter, I noticed a display with cookies and some scones. I said, Are those scones? The guy behind the counter said, Yes, cinnamon. So I asked for one. He said, Heated up? I said, No. He paused a minute and said, They're better warm. So I said Ok. We sat down and waited for our order. The guy brought over the warmed up cinnamon scone on a paper plate. I broke off a corner and tasted it. Holy cow. This was not really a scone as I knew scones--it was a warm cinnamon fudge shortbread with nuggets of cinnamon like flavor bombs. It was truly wonderful. Then he brought over the sandwiches. They were substantial, with eggplant and some yellow squash smothered in tomato sauce and mozzarella on a hefty chunk of homemade bread. It was good. It was very very good. I think eggplant is hard to cook, easy to mess up. This was good. This place is a hidden jewel. It is plain, a bit run down, nothing fancy. The food, however, is monstrously good. If you don't like eggplant get something else--I would bet any sandwich would be good. I know the scones are memorably good. I'm not from Springfield and it was only by chance we ended up at this place. But if I go back to Springfield, you can bet I will make sure to stop here. You have to order at the counter. They have a daily special, pizza by the slice and by the pie. The menus offers sandwiches, salads, pasta dishes, two types of pizza (Sicilian and deep dish) plus desserts. They have fountain soda, draft beer, bottle beer and wine. We felt like we had hit the jack pot. We ordered the garlic knots for an appetizer, and the special of the day. It did not take long for the appetizer and the owner even brought out extra bread to help us celebrate my victory. We were so shocked. the server brought us our rigatoni special.
